Shrike76 he/him Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 I recently finished reading Feed by Mira Grant and really enjoyed it. Currently reading The Causal Angel by Hannu Rajaniemi.
Dunkum he/him Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 (edited) The first book GOT is great then it kind of goes down hill after the second book in my opinion. It's funny I've been anticipating the next book so long I don't even care anymore. I'll just take whatever HBO does as cannon.Funny, most people I see tend to list book 3 as the best. I find myself in the minority thinking that book 4 may be the best, though it has some flaws. Edited January 8, 2016 by Dunkum
Orlion Blight he/him Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Hipster Orlion says that all the books are garbage water Bloody mainstream fantasy...
Briar King Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 I'm trying to get back in Outlander 2 but having a hard time. I may reread New Sun, Into the Darkness, or ICE Malazan bks. I hate putting bks down cause then who knows when I get back to them.
Zathoth Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Meanwhile I am waiting for the White Sand graphic novel... though if anyone feels kind enough to PM me how the magic works I would appreciate that <.< >.> Anyway I took a break from Promise of Blood and started reading Summer Knight.

Argent he/him Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 (edited) Done with Pratchett's Going Postal. Really good book, I just find it difficult to say why. I loved it, it was a pageturner, I went through it pretty quickly (when I actually got a chance to read), but I can't quite figure out what made it so good. Moist von Lipwig, the protagonist, is definitely solid, so that could be a big part of it. I've moved on to the next one in the series, Making Money. I'll finish this one, and maybe a short story or two, and then jump right into The Bands of Mourning. Edited January 15, 2016 by Argent
Left he/him Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I've almost finished The Black Prism It's amazing It's about on par with McClellan for content, but I like it more. This is really good. It's so much more readable than anything else I've read lately. There's about ten days left till Mistborn 6....I'm gonna hold off on Wexler, it's too big. I'm either going to start Codex Alera, read a novel by Scalzi, or get to the next Temeraire.
Zathoth Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I finished Summer Knight! Im sold on this series now. First three were entertaining and all, but Summer Knight was really good. Now I guess I could finish Death Masks in a week...

Now I guess I could finish Death Masks in a week... I think it was a couple Dresden books ago that I did a re-read of the entire series up to the release. I got through all of them in about a month-and-a-half.
Trizee Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I'm now reading Horizon Storms, the third book in Kevin J. Anderson's Saga of the Seven Suns. Its been pretty decent so far, and I hope I can finish it before BoM comes out. I also just finished a book in Hebrew called Elnakam (אלנקם)- highly recommended if there are any Hebrew speakers out there.
Zea mays Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Wuts Elnakam about (besides the vengeance of a deity)? I'm just finishing War and Peace (record time!), and need something to think about till next Tuesday.

Haven't really had time to read much since I finished Temeraire 6. I Really should get around to reading Alera, maybe I'll be able to read it quickly over the weekend.

Even for a lightning-fast reader, that might be a bit much to try and make it through in a weekend.

I just meant Furies of Calderon, it's been on my shelf for almost a month. I have a harder time getting around to reading paper backs(which is what my copy of it is) than hardcovers, which are what the rest of the books I've been reading have been.

I loved his psychological portraits of the characters. Everyone was was so human. My favorite character was Prince Andrei, (after him Nicholai Rostov and his army friend Vasca) but I don't think I ever really warmed up to Natasha. The sermons about historical determinism I didn't care for so much (I listened to an unabridged version). Also had to take everything said of Napoleon with a grain of salt - but can't really blame anyone in 19th century Russia for loathing the man. I'll probably listen to the book again, maybe in a year or two, and skip all of the random historical essays and musing about various military leaders, and just concentrate on the main characters and their evolutions.

Well, that's the first book. You might have trouble stopping yourself from moving straight on to the next book once you've gotten started.
Orlion Blight he/him Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Oh, Napoleon was a big deal in Russia at that time. It almost seems like you loved him or despised him. This culture plays a central role in Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment.
