+Hoiditthroughthegrapevine he/him Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Sam Baker. If you took the hard living urban sensibility of Tom Waits, mixed in the Emotional Honesty of Leonard Cohen, the metaphors of Bob Dylan, and stripped away all the pretensions of being cool until you got to a point where only raw, earnest and emotional honesty is left and presented with the deft and reductive touch of Hemingway then you have Sam Baker. As a Cosmere aside, he was almost killed by a bomb while on a train car in Peru heading to Machu Pichu. The people around him were all killed, and he actually saw the light at the end of the tunnel and also felt as if he was passing to the beyond, but he came back and was compelled to make music. He's a real life Returned, and his mission in life is to turn his pain and suffering into beauty, and holy crap, he does such an amazing job of making beautiful music. You can listen to his albums on his website, and I would suggest you give his album Pretty World a listen to first:http://www.sambakermusic.com/p-r-e-t-t-y-w-o-r-l-d There's also a great interview with him on Fresh Air with Terry Gross:http://wwno.org/post/sam-baker-finding-grace-wake-destruction-1 1
Stampede he/him Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Currently some Infinity on High by Fall Out Boy. It was probably my favorite back when it came out, just checking to make sure it holds up.
BadKitty Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Currently my playlist consists of the soundtracks from both Guardians of the Galaxy, musicals-Les Miserable, Chicago, The Greatest Showman, and then it goes to pretty much everything from The Pretty Reckless, and then anything by The Heavy (Favs being Short Change Hero and Curse Me Good) then some classics (some Jefferson Airplane , some Blue Oyster Cult...) and gasp...I have some country music in there too...
Guest Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 (edited) Kinda forgot about this release, which is surprising, because I normally get all neosignalaudio releases... Next level sound design. Edited February 4, 2018 by SLNC
Ammanas Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 I'm late to the party on this, but Third Eye Blind is still releasing music and they still write and perform some of the best songs out there today! Their newest album:
Left he/him Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 AWOLNATION released a new album, and daaang it’s lit. I like their shift in style. It keeps their essentials but changes other things. And I don’t know how to describe that very well, but anyway it’s great. Also been listening to Khalid

Iarwainiel I she/her Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 I have 5 CDs by Scott Cossu, a pianist who does "light jazz." The CDs are all out of press now, which is bad cause the music is wonderful. Maybe look for him on iTunes or something -- songs that lighten your mood!
Iarwainiel I she/her Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Another artist I'm listening to lately is Daniil Trifonov (http://daniiltrifonov.com/) --- astounding young pianist! Check out this sample from NPR, 15 min. long:

The Allomantic Metalhead he/him Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 The Vision Bleak - A Curse of the Grandest Kind, a truly epic and bitter song. "When the moon is on the wave and the glow-worm in the grass, and the meteor on the grave and the wisp on the morass. When the falling stars are shooting and the answer'd owls are hooting, and the silent leaves are still in the shadow of the hill. Shall my soul be upon thine, with a power and with a sign. Though thy slumber may be deep, yet thy spirit shall not sleep. There are shades which will not vanish, there are thoughts thou canst not banish. By a power to thee unknown, thou canst never be alone. Thou art wrapt as with a shroud, thou art gather'd in a cloud, and forever shalt thou dwell in the spirit of this spell. Though thou seest me not pass by, thou shalt feel me with thine eye. As a thing that, though unseen, must be near thee and hath been. And when in that secret dread, thou hast turn'd around thy head. Thou shalt marvel I am not, as thy shadow on the spot. And the power which thou dost feel, shall be what thou must conceal, And a magic voice and verse, hath baptized thee with a curse. And a spirit of the air, hath begirt thee with a snare. In the wind there is a voice, shall forbid thee to rejoice. And to thee shall night deny, all the quiet of her sky, and the day shall have a sun which shall make thee wish it done. From thy false tears I did distil an essence which hath strength to kill. From thy own heart I then did wring, the black blood in its blackest spring. From thy own smile I snatch'd the snake, for there it coil'd as in a brake. From thy own lip I drew the charm which gave all these their chiefest harm. In proving every poison known, I found the strongest was thine own. By thy cold breast and serpent smile, by thy unfathom'd gulfs of guile, by that most seeming virtuous eye, by thy shut soul's hypocrisy. By the perfection of thine art which pass'd for human thine own heart. By thy delight in others' pain and by thy brotherhood of Cain. I call upon thee and compel thyself to be thy proper Hell! And on thy head I pour the vial which doth devote thee to this trial. Nor to slumber, nor to die, shall be in thy destiny. Though thy death shall still seem near, to thy wish, but as a fear. Lo, the spell now works around thee and the clankless chain hath bound thee. O'er thy heart and brain together, hath the word been pass'd, now wither!" Such an epic song... it never fails to give me goosebumps. Of course, it's by The Vision Bleak, so that's to be expected...
Ink he/him Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 The Undertale soundtrack, including remixes, the Star Wars 7 and 8 soundtracks, and Greatest Showman soundtrack. I’m not a huge fan of songs with lyrics, but Harmony, Greatest showman just is... so good. And I normally hate musicals.
Shaed Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 (edited) The one and only Ian Anderson and his amazing band Jethro Tull https://youtu.be/gWubhw8SoBE Any JT fans here? Edited March 20, 2018 by Shaed
