Eyyy nice! I got my own car about a month ago, its fun to stash candy in it

I’m extraordinarily happy today, because I got super lucky, I don’t even know how. So when Rhythm of War came out, I bought a copy (unsigned). Now, it was brand new, perfect condition, first printing/first edition. I lent it to my friend when i finished, who I trusted enough with my shiny new hardcover. He takes forever to read it, and returns it to me, severely damaged (Painful to look at). He said he’d buy me a new one but never did. Last week I got tired of waiting and just bought a new one. I was bummed since the new one wouldn’t be a first printing like the damaged one. But the new copy came in from amazon and IT WAS FIRST PRINTING? What? I have no idea how, since RoW is on at least the 5th printing now. I can’t even figure out how it could be that I ended up with a first printing from amazon. It was 50% off too, so I got a book that’s worth $50-60 bucks for $17. As a semi-serious collector, it made me very happy.

This reminds me of when Words of Radiance first came out. I had bought a first edition hardback, however had missed my chance to get the WoK first edition hardback.

Then, just a few short weeks later, I was in a second hand bookstore (where I never, ever found Brandon's novels), and there it was, sitting on a shelf, tucked away in an obscure corner of the store. The US first edition of Way of Kings, for less than half the cover price, and in pristine condition.

That was also a good day!

So, you've got your "shelf copy" and your "reading copy" :)

Juggling part-time studies with work. I'm required to pass in order to not get yelled at by HR.

Dealing with an entirely different area, trying to play Sanderson Elimination, keep up with my studies, and work has been a nightmare at times :P

But I am proud to announce I have apparently managed to hang on to my A+! :D

I made homemade cheese curds!

They're about 70% of what good cheese curds should be, but I'll definitely figure out how to get perfect squeaky, buttery, delicious fresh curds.

Ooo, congratulations! They look very nice.

Thanks!

They were a little crumbly, I think I over cooked my curds. I have taken steps to ensure that won't happen again (I was debating whether to insert a fiendish chuckle here or not, so I'll just put a small one, mwahaha).

I got a sous vide cooker from ebay ($40), so I'll be able to heat the milk with extreme precision for specific time intervals. My daughter really wants to be able to make garlic cheese curds, like the Vampire Slayer curds from Face Rock Creamery out of Bandon Oregon. I just want to be able to make squeaking good curds.

I think that once the curds pass muster, they will definitely have to be poutined (can you conjugate poutine?).

Have you made poutine before? Do you have a poutine gravy recipe that you like?

Awesome! :D

And no, but my ex was Canadian and she kept going on about poutine ;) Poutining your cheese curds once they pass muster sounds great :D

Do tell! We love tofu in my family!

I recently figured out that the best way to Marinate tofu is to pan fry it first. Broiled teriyaki marinated tofu skewers are ridiculously delicious (that's one of my secret to fun techniques revealed). (Spell checker changed tofu to "to fun", so I'm just gonna go with it).

What's one of your secret tofu techniques?

I'm planning advertising this month, handing in my resignation at the start of March, then from April, I'm becoming a full time D&D Dungeon Master :)

Sorry to double post, but I just saw this, what's this about you becoming a full time D&D Dungeon Master?

As in you are going to, as a profession, create and run D&D campaigns?

Initially I'll be running published campaign modules rather than create my own stories, but yeah. I'm going to be running D&D as a profession.

Oh, that's delicious! :D

Two options - the one my dad and grandfather swear by is to go Hakka-style, which is steamed and stuffed with minced pork and salted fish. But since preparing the salted fish can be more effort than required, we just use fish sauce but have to be careful because that's insanely salty, but adds the umami.

Other one is to do mapo tofu - you don't really fry the tofu so much as simmer it in the sauce, but if you love spicy, it really has that kick, and it tastes delicious with the minced meat and scallions and on rice. (Note that my grandfather used to consider it a failure if you didn't run from the table screaming your mouth was on fire :| ) In theory I have the recipe somewhere but I'm enough of a heretic to just buy the sauce right from the supermarket and then use it :P

We use the website Roll20 as a virtual tabletop, Discord for voice communication, and Paypal for payments. People pay an amount per session, or per month, and that buys me the new books and stuff, and from next month, I'll be earning a living doing it :)

If you'd like to support me in my endevours, we do need a healer for a new Descent Into Avernus campaign starting up soon. :D

This is the first I've heard of steamed and stuffed tofu, it sounds amazing though, I'll have to try it next week, I'll have a dim sum night.

I love mapo tofu! Unfortunately that's the one type of tofu I can't get my wife and daughters to eat. I have to have it when they're out of town, but I always have a box of House brand mapo tofu in the cupboard.

Can't at the moment, also I've never been much of a healer type. That's totally sweet that you're a professional DM, hope everything comes up 20 (when you want it to, mwahaha).

I finally stopped procrastinating and telling myself I couldn't, and started making a shift yesterday!

(Kindness gushes about sewing incoming)

It's actually pretty easy and a lot of fun to make a shift, and I'm seeing so much improvement in my hand sewing, just from the sleeves, gussets, and gores!  And I think I've puzzled out how to catch stitch, which will be so helpful for finishing the sleeve seams.  The nice thing about the sleeves is that I cut them with one edge on the selvage, which means I don't have to finish the cuff end at all!  I cut the body that way too, but I'm probably going to have to hem it anyway, since the bottom hem of the gores isn't on the selvage.  I'm not too upset though, because again, shifts are great practice for getting better at backstitching, and even though I told myself I would probably machine sew the long seams, I don't think I'm going to.  I'm just enjoying the process, and yes, it's incredibly historically inaccurate, but who cares?  If I actually end up making a whole ensemble, no one will know, because it's a shift!

Ok people this is a long thread because I have to tell you everything that happened over the weekend.

As some of you know, I have a crush on a very close friend of mine (K)

On Saturday, I did a little Esther Melodrama with K and some other friends for a Primary activity (Latter Day Saint church, iykyk)

That was two hours, and was very fun. Then, K carpooled to my house and we spent 4.5 hours making cinnamon rolls. We tried to make them purple, but they turned out gray lmao. They still turned out really good though, and we watched ATLA as well. She then went home to spend like 3 hours getting ready for church prom that night, we were going as friends. (please explain to me. do girls legit take that long to get ready bro????)

So, I carpooled with her and her brother (who I am also friends with) to the stake center for the prom, and as per tradition, while I was waiting at their house to leave, I read a few pages of The Rithmatist. I do this every time I'm over there and waiting for something. It's become a ritual. But we're getting off topic!!

Anyway, she finishes getting ready and...

*ahem*

*inhale*

OHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYY GOOOOOOOOOOOSHHHHHHHH DUUUUUUUUUUUDE SHE LITERALLY LOOKS SO GORGEUOUS I MEAN WHAAAAAAAT AAAAAAAAAAA SHES SO PRETTTYYYYYYYYYY

Anyway, she looks absolutely amazing, and I'm blown away because well (see second line of this post) that.

So we go to church prom, pictures happen yadayadayada. All that stuff.

We go inside, and it's in the gym (it's indoors thank goodness). We acclamate to the loud chaotic suit/dress filled environment, (the theme was Roarin' Twenties, so I was in a vest and fedora like a champ, and she was in this beautiful red and black bead covered dress,, and her hair was up in this wavy bunch around her head with like mini pearls in it, and she looked absolutely stunning) and then Bang! by AJR starts playing.

Now, I've been looping Bang! for weeks, so you already know I start singing along and dancing towards the middle of the dance floor. K's brother C follows me and during the chorus we go absolutely ham. We quite literally started a dance riot for the whole song it was awesome :D

Anyway, the Dance goes like usual, except theres like a photo booth thing behind the stage, so we go do photos. Me and K do a Bonnie/Clyde photo and it's now my phone background because it simply can be.

So like three slow songs happen, and I cannot for the life of me come up with the courage to ask her to dance, because I'm a shy loser (but also not but like you know)

But, then they play Fix You by Coldplay, and I just blurt out, "K, do you want to dance with me?" She immediately says yes, grabs my hand and starts dragging me to the middle of the gym lmao.

We start dancing, and this was easily the best part of the night, because lemme tell ya, slow dancing with someone you know AND also have a crush on???? best. experience. ever.

2 things happened during that dance:

(A) twice, I looked down at her (she's like 5'0" and i'm 5'10", and she also took her heels off for the slow dance lol) and she was just smiling up at me, so you already know that was good to see.

(B) she did that thing where she just let her head fall forward and rest on my chest for like 3 seconds. that was nice :)

So, we just hung out the whole day basically and prom was the best thing ever :D

I've also come to the realization, that based on everything that happened yesterday, one of two things is true.

(1) she likes me back

(2) she has just become comfortable around me

Thank you for reading my rambling post about my feelings for this girl.
