Maybe, don’t know enough about brass instruments. I know saxophone and clarinet would work, but I don’t know how the pistons in trumpet would work. My guess is yes.

That’s not dumb, that’s really powerful. You just have to not hit yourself with it, and you’ve got a much lighter and easier to use version of a weapon that cuts through everything.

Some insidious traps:

Shard coffee table with sharpened edges

Shard bedframe railing

Shard Lego

 

More practical traps would use it as a release wire or pin for a larger mechanism. Setup the mechanism, then summon the pin pack when your spren says the target is in position.

Alternately, possibly a universal lockpick if you want to leave less of a trace than just cutting through the door.

I was thinking that the kind of can opener I had in mind had disconnected mechanical parts, which doesn't work with shards (it has to be all one piece I think)
