So we don't know for sure what this actually entails?

We haven't the slightest. It's rich ground for theories!

Theories include, but are not limited to:

  • TLR's atium bracers being an atium alloy and storing Allomantic power.
  • Feruchemical nicrosil storing Allomantic power, supported by the MAG.
  • Usage of Feruchemical duralumin or Feruchemical aluminum to increase your identity/connection to channel more power.
  • Usage of a metalmind of the same type as the Allomantic metal you're burning, and storing the power in that.

Do we have any clarification on whether the Words of Founding are written in metal/stone/insert other material or
that the Words of Founding are the written exactly as the same Words that Saze gave Spook at the end of HoA, as i'm under the impression that the Words were in bookform at the end of HoA?

They're books. Spook found books at the end of HoA, SoS mentioned numerous pen-and-paper copies taking up space on noble shelves. Besides, if Sazed wanted to write his bible on metal, he wouldn't be able to read what he'd already written, which puts a damper on trying to spellcheck.

I imagine Sazed trying writing on metal and making a complete mess when he tried to correct something or cross out and ended up with something totally unreadeable XD

Do we know if Hoid is a full Feruchemist, a Ferring, or his Feruchemy is broader than the Scadrial variety (like, maybe he can store in silver?)?

I know they were books at the end of HoA but i can't seem to find any reference for Era 2. When i mean the Words in WaW, I mean the main Words located where Vin and Elend's statues are as I'm trying to account for the discrepancy between pre-TFE Trelagism and post-ascension Trellism as mentioned at the end of AoL by Miles. The only thing I can come up with is that as Saze wrote the original religion down in the books, but between then and WaW, something/someone changed the original writing before transcription into a centralised area.

If the words were then written into metal by the Scadrians to officiate them, the only person who'd know the real truth would be Saze and as he can't read what is written in metal, he wouldn't be able to correct it, therefore whoever did it would be duping most of the scadrian population.

I'm having trouble remembering but did Saze teach of Trelagism to anyone else apart from Vin? I thought he did to Kelsier but my kindle version says otherwise

It has been noted that preservation is significantly better at telling the future than ruin. This makes sense, because ruin's intent is for there not to be a future.

Only, this begs the question...

Why does ruin's god metal let you see the future?

Powers are not themselves of any Shard:

Andrew the Great (19 October 2008)

Why can Vin fuel Elend's atium-burning, even though Atium is Ruin's Body and Vin is using Preservation? Or did I misread that and he was just burning atium and had run out of everything else?

Brandon Sanderson (20 October 2008)

Yes, as has been pointed out:

A powerful peace swelled in Elend. His Allomancy flared bright, though he knew the metals inside of him should have burned away. Only atium remained, and the strange power did not—could not—give him this metal. But it didn’t matter. For a moment, he was embraced by something greater. He looked up, toward the sun.

(From the text.)

As a note here, the powers granted by all of the metals—even the two divine ones—are not themselves of either Shard. They are simply tools.  And so, it's possible that one COULD have found a way to reproduce an ability like atium's while using Preservation's power, but it wouldn't be as natural or as easy as using Preservation to fuel Allomancy.

The means of getting powers—Ruin stealing, Preservation gifting—are related to the Shards, but not the powers themselves.

Would a Drab be more susceptible to having their Spiritweb filled with another investiture form? As the lack of Breath would probably resist any others?

Probably yes, a Drab would be more susceptible (both a Nhaltian without a breath and a survivor of Hemalurgy).

But not every Magic System is compatible with everyone (Drab or not Drab), for example a Drab to me is a good candidate for a Nahel Bond.

However, being a Drab (at least in the Breath-less sense) does seem to sap a person's passion and motivation, so while their Spiritweb may be more able to "take" the Bond, they might have a hard time actually attracting a spren.

Of course, I was just speaking about the possibilities.

But honestly speaking, is the only Magic System that come to my mind, that has no need of strong connection to a Shard/Shardworld to work fine.

So I kind of feel a bit silly for asking this question, but does anybody know what will be in the novella collection released later this year? I know that we will have:

1. Mistborn Secret History

2. The Emperor's Soul

3. Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell

4. Sixth of the Dusk(?)

5. A cosmere star chart(?)

Are these all included in it? And am I missing anything?

Posted

Also The Eleventh Metal, The Allomancer Jak story from the MAG: alloy of Law edition, The Hope of Elantris, and a Stormlight novella if things with regard to Oathbringer don't go on schedule.

I have a question regarding a theory I've been brewing up:

What, if anything, do we know about the process of splintering a Shard?

Do we know for sure who is writing all of the Ars Arcanum (it's one person IIRC)? At least the gender?
I ask because in Polish all the verbs differentiate for gender and I am not sure if the translator got it correctly.

We're pretty sure it's Khriss, we may not have explicit confirmation but the evidence is overwhelming.

Regardless the author is female. The stormlight audio books differentiate viewpoints by readers (males are read my Michael Kramer and females by Kate Redding) and the ars Arcanum is read by Kate.

So invested objects tend to be more immune to allomancy and such. For example, steelpushing nightblood would be really, really difficult.

So why does aluminum, a regular metal, resist allomancy, while atium, which is basically pure solid investiture, does not?

Posted

Is there anything that isn't made of investiture on an apparently artificial world like Scadrial? Or anywhere?

It might be made of the stuff, but I figure that's not the same as being invested, perhaps.

Aluminum resists it likely for entirely different reasons.

Everything is made of Investiture.

The things that we call "Invested" is above this "standard level of Investiture".

The Atium probably is only "matter made by only Ruin's Investiture" but not "high Invested" therefore there isn't probably a lot of Interference.

The Alluminum is an "oddly" case in the Cosmere and creates problems in many Magic System (not all of them), until now we didn't understand the reason (but there is some theory in this regard).

I'm working on a Cosmere Chronology, and I have a Stormlight Archive timeline questions.

Do we know about how long the Day of Reckoning is before the Hierocracy? It seems likely it's at least 50 years, more likely to be around a few hundred years.

And it says on the Coppermind that the Hierocracy is about 700 years, local dating (500 years before SA). Do we have anything more accurate than that?

EDIT- I found this quote, saying that the Hierocracy is about 500-600 years before SA.

Argent: Okay, so from the middle--

Brandon: The Hierocracy happened after and the Hierocracy was a couple hundred years ago. It’s longer than that even, it’s like five or six hundred years ago I think.

Apologies, Weiry. Let me try again.

I have a question regarding a theory I've been brewing up:

What, if anything, do we know about the process of splintering a Shard?

Very little. The lethal variant is almost completely unknown, and the nonlethal variant is standard operating procedure for some Shards like Endowment. Edited by Landis963

I see a common statement across the theory board that Elend's duralumin-atium gave him a glimpse into the Spiritual.

I cannot seem to find a WoB that says this though.  Can someone source it?

And just a few short minutes after posting this I find what I was looking for.  So please ignore.
