The way that’s phrased makes it seem like what they did actually was impressive, as it’s a big accomplishment for Shallan to turn a stick into fire 

Your place in my brain is akin to one of those characters like Old Chapps or Ym compared to Kaladin or Vin. But without their general awesomeness.

Well actually *puts on explanation voice* a Lashing changes the direction of gravity, and since gravity works on the whole amount of weight, it doesn't matter how heavy the object is.
