Why is he being so stubborn on this?

"At least let Insa help you. She seems more familiar with this type of god."

Bookwyrm sent a mental shrug. I wouldn't know. But we need to move on.

I need him to know and understand that he's not doing this alone before we "move on."

Is that honestly going to happen? He can decide what he wants, but he can't stop us from doing what we need to. If Saar is involved, we're acting, whether he likes it or not.

I just don't want him to feel betrayed or lied to when we do. I don't want him to think that we like came around or something and then we didn't.

True. Do you want something else to happen?

Aora pulled the rest out.

Nah. Enough has happened to him already.

@InfiniteInsanity @SpiritOfWrath, also.
Golden sparks fly as Aora removes the binding that kept them there, floating into Veer and healing him properly. The corruption cleansed from him, Veer’s now-metal arm shines in prismatic colors. He takes the circlet back from Aora. “Thank you. Is there anything I can do to repay you?”

She blinked at him. "So . . . it worked?"

He flexes the still metal arm. “I think so. I don’t feel corrupt-y any more. We should still wait a bit to make sure it doesn’t come back, but I think I’m cured.”

Veer lies back down on the hospital bed, not really knowing what to say.

“I’m glad you’re feeling better. I’m probably still gonna take like and X-ray just to be sure you’re okay. As long as that’s okay with you?”

“That’s fine. I think my ribs are still healed, but we can check for more breaks.”

Tim looked at him. “What do you plan to do with me?”

“Well, I was thinking we’d have that trial - with Mead Bush as the judge and someone who can make people tell the truth; maybe someone who can speak to Charlie as well. Mead Bush and the rest of whatever jury we assemble would decide your sentence, and then once I had more information I might go to the El-ay place and alter whatever organization you three actually work for. The extent and method of the alterations remains to be determined, but I’d like to stop more people like Par from getting hurt.”

Tim nodded. “Charlie didn’t work for them, though. He was them… the boss. Top of the pyramid.”

Mead blacks out.

Eclair has Finally stopped crying, and is now wandering the halls searching for help.

“That’s not how things work with our society. See, a government is present over our people, and is supposed to prevent things like what happened to Par. But… everyone can be bribed… and not everyone needs to know everything. I worked directly under him, but he likes to promote ‘unity’, forcing us to act like friends.”

“So it’s upside down, then. Some of the government tries to help people but can’t, and the Lawless somehow controls everything anyway. So if you did things right, you could be in charge?”

“Well… our system functions on trust… and distrust. None of my colleagues would rise up against Charlie and take his place because we don’t trust each other to support us. At the same time, Charlie trusts us not to rise up. And for a position in the government, you essentially need the support of the gang, because the corruption is so high up.”

“That makes sense, I suppose. There are some groups in the Lawless that work like that. I can help unify the bandits behind you; I don’t think your devices can harm me. Of course, I’ll need to ensure you and your new lieutenants actually put a stop to things like cutting off people’s fingers.”

Tim shook his head. “For that to stop… the group needs to disappear. I do not want the power. Look what this lower position has turned me into! I’m… I’m afraid I’ll become like Charlie.”

Veer nods. He knows what that feels like. “I don’t know how much I can do. But I’ll try. You’re a good person, Tim. Those are rarer than they should be, sometimes.”

Tim hesitated, and a tear appears on his face. “I killed him. I killed Charlie. Would a good person do that?”
