"A phone number. Someone I can call to get help."

He provided a therapist’s number, the front desk’s number, and directions to Neltan’s room.

Beltran accepted gratefully, taking the info and walking down the winding halls nervously.

The metal gives a bit, bending at what is apparently a seam. It’s springy there, which is a strange texture for metal. But nothing bad seems to happen.

Aora breathed a small sigh of relief.

The bird looked behind it. I should go. I’ll be at my desk. It flew off.

"Oh . . . okay. Goodbye." She watched him fly off, then turned back to the man.

"So . . . it absorbs magic, right?" she asked, making sure she had it right.

This all depended on whether it did or not.

"H-hello, si-sir, is t-this the- the- the- the..."

Clearly, the creature is having troubles speaking due to fear and paranoia.

“The front desk?”

@Spark of Hope

"N-no."

it pulls out a note, covered in a sweet, thick, red creme sauce, possibly a filling.

alongside directions is the name "Insanity clinic for brandonsandersonfanitis and other malieties, curses and inflictions."

the creature, practically vibrating, stated "I- I- I s-seek asylum"

“Yes. It grew off both my magic and Ella’s. But it seems to mess it up as well; instead of focus and integrate, it corrupts and consumes.” Veer motions to a silver circlet on his head. The left half has melded with the corruption, but the right half sparkles in rainbow colors. “This is real spellsteel, for reference. Although it may have been covered; I can’t get it off.”

Hmm.

"Okay. Thank you," she said.

She laid her hands on the man's arm and took a deep breath.

The metal's surface shimmered for a moment, then began rippling softly. Small silver globules began floating off, hanging in the air.

"T-t-these c-creatures, t-they ate my family an-and they're hunting me d-d-down a-and..."

By now she's curled into a smol ball and whimpering and crying in fear and trauma, revealing blood-soaked bandages under her red jacket, a thick red custard leaking through.

It happens easily, taking barely a thought to activate whatever she’s doing. But, alarmingly, more power is being pulled through than intended - maybe even more power than she should be able to access, depending upon its source. This amount of power feels like she could do far more than simply shape some metal.
Another alarming thing is that the metal goes much farther than skin deep; she’s sent ripples through and torn off pieces of Veer’s skin, muscles, and quite possibly more important things. The start of the rash was his left shoulder, after all; not far from his heart. Even with only a tiny bit of lost metal, there is some blood on his arm where the rash was removed. It feels manipulatable as well, which is perhaps a bad sign.
Veer, for his part, is less alarmed than he should be. “This feels like it should hurt, but it doesn’t. I’ve heard of people that grow spellsteel within them. In some stories, they supposedly turn to statues; in others, they are invincible, unaging, and superhuman warriors; and in still other stories, they become the successors to dragons long dead, growing wings and tails, matching both the form and power of the dragons of old. I didn’t think I could be one of them, though. I already had a Gift.”
@InfiniteInsanity and @SpiritOfWrath might be there too, actually.

Maybe she just did his arm, in case ignore the part about maybe reshaping his heart by accident. But nearly all of his shoulder, muscle and bone included, is now made from corrupted spellsteel, as is the visibly grey skin down his arm and up his face. He’s also got some of it in his blood.

She stopped what she was doing and scooped the floating metal up with a bowl that had been resting nearby.

". . . What?"

Quote

Technically, she was focusing on just his arm.

And she's not reshaping the metal, per se. She can't control metal.

. . . you'll see.

I’ll defer descriptions to you, then, you know how the power works.

Veer motions to continue with his good arm. “There are people who turn to spellsteel, supposedly. Scaled, Spellmen, Dragonheirs, Entombed, Chosen, Prismatic Ones… they have a different name in every story, and the transformation never turns out the same. Sometimes they become statues, sometimes great mages, sometime unstoppable warriors with skin no blade can break, and sometimes they are dragons come again. I doubt all of its true - storytellers are an imaginative lot, comes with the job, I suppose - but this, or something like it, has probably happened before. I hadn’t heard about the magic consumption part, though.”

Aora set the bowl down, thinking. She didn't start back up again.

"What if . . . I just remove the magic?" she said quietly. "It's both metal and magic, right? Couldn't I just remove one and the other would be left behind?"

“Maybe? Even if the only way to make it is with magic, it might still be part mundane; I knew someone who made ceramic with their Gift. When they were done, the bricks, or pots, or whatever weren’t magic.”

So did she actually take some metal from his arm? Because the non-magic part of it would be arm.

Yeah she took a tiny bit

So if she removed the "magic part," his arm would go back to normal?

I'm not sure if I quite understand how this works

Yeah, spellsteel is almost wholly magic, so taking the magic away would destroy it. Removing the spellsteel would leave flesh or nothing, depending upon how long it had been there.
Unknow to Veer, a better solution would be to remove what the original metamage did to him, un-corrupting the spellsteel and the rest of his magic. His stories are sorta true, after all.

Okay . . .

So taking the magic out would work or it wouldn't?

Quote

Taking the magic out would almost fully destroy the spellsteel. In the new spots, it’s merely interspersed with flesh, and thus would work to fix Veer. At the shoulder, though, it’s just spellsteel, and would leave simply a hole, which would be bad.
Taking out just the corruption, however, would fix Veer but also potentially contaminate wherever you try to move it to. Of course, without the ability to make spellsteel it couldn’t spread once it was there. It might actually be useful.

Well my character doesn't know that

hmm

Surely Veer know something that he could hint at or tell her

If you start with the part you took, you’d get some flesh. But it would be noticeable as less than was in the original piece. And Veer would probably ask what your Gift actually was, so you could explain the possibly to fix the corruption.
