She looked up and sighed. She didn't normally slip into philosophical talk unless it was about how horrible she or her past were. Not since she was sixteen and realized for the first time that she didn't want to be alone.

She still didn't want to be alone.

She slowed back down a little.

Honestly I might. Btw, Pic and Lundyn by this point are at the top, or whatever Thaid declares to be the top, so if you want the conversation to cut off, have them arrive!

Pic smiled warmly at her, and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. Lundyn was still piggybacking on him, as her wing was injured and she wouldn’t be able to fly if she fell.

“So now what, we wait for the driver and then meet this guy who can track down the person who can get us home?” He hummed in a minor key.

Elan tries not to notice the physical contact, how close Aventine stood to Pic. He touched down on the top of the tower and nervously summoned and de-summoned a ball in his hand. He finally let it go and walked over to the two of them.

"Anyone want food? Cuz I feel like we have some time."

Elan carefully sets up a grill and starts making some grilled cheese sandwiches. He tosses one to Aventine and one to Pic, and then continues making more.

She moved quickly to catch it, a look of surprise on her face.

HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE

Those who were on the top of the tower or near the top could hear shouting conversations from the top room echoing out, muffled by magic so no one could hear the precise words.

Lyla was at the base of the tower and, looking at those around her, nodded. The door was unguarded, for some reason, which should have been the first sign. Without further ado, she reached for the door handle and opened up the door, unveiling a lobby.

Now, it was rather obvious something was wrong when she looked in the lobby. For one thing, it was collapsing in on itself the moment she opened the door. For another thing, the top of the tower was exploding in red energy and a black and red dragon was flowing from the top, whipping people back and forth. And, for a third thing, the fact that the falling people each turned into large dragons and went after the other dragon as it snaked over the city towards... the docks?

"Oh brother," Lyla said, after she was violently thrown back with the rest of them from the building, or, what was left of it since the top was obliterated. Thankfully, the building did the polite thing and fell the other way as not to crus her and the others.

How considerate. However, it could've done better if all that dust and rubble hadn't covered her legs, and even some of the others in some respect.

It is a universal constant that, when people are trying to capture you, exploding something usually makes you feel better. Thaidakar was a staunch believer in this. Yes, he could've had an intellectual argument explaining why he was correct at that moment. Well, if he hadn't been caught up in escaping from the tower which he had just blown up.

Behind him, other of his kind were following him. About 20 of them. Thankfully, Thaidakar seemed faster than all of them, so maybe he did have a chance. Yet, as their flames licked his tail, perhaps he should've planned a bit longer.

While in the tower, he'd been counseling with every Soulless in the city. Only a few of them seemed like genuinely good people. The majority, however, seemed like arrogant arses who wanted him for experimentation. Horrible of them, really.

And, so, as the flames continued approaching Thaidakar, he dived down to avoid the flames. They dived low, following him and roaring. Thaidakar turned into his human form, diving lower and lower. The people below screamed and, as a few of the dragons started to hesitate and pull back, Thaidakar was a few feet from the ground. In a burst of flames, Thaidakar turned back into his dragon form, flying back into the air. He burst over the city, flapping up towards the docks once more.

With a sweeping blast of red power, he incinerated about a quarter of the ships, even a bright yellow one with an unnatural storage of juice boxes in its hold. That should stall them for now. And, so, Thaidakar flew away from the city, pursued by dragons who were getting a mite tired. They weren't dragons like Thaidakar, accustomed to flying long distance and at such speeds. No, they were city dragons, and they had more important things, for the most part, to do instead of flying that far. Well, that was, until today.

She yelped as they were launched and dropped the sandwich. She reached for her pocke-

Crud. She didn't have her jacket. She was still in the outfit she'd worn on Tal's world and, nice as it was, it had no pockets. She'd have to fix that later.

Quinn immediately released himself from Roy's body and took flight, forming into a spirit like projectile that flew after Thaidakar.

Elan blinked, in a daze, and then the adrenaline kicked in. Or some magic equivalent. He stood up, and his eyes started glowing black as he began hovering off the ground, the dust around him skittering away like it was being repelled by a magnet. His hair began to ripple, and his skin started glowing. His face was solemn.

Energy began coalescing around him, any plants nearby withering and electric devices shutting down. The ground began to liquify, turning a black color that didn't reflect anything as it floated up, orbiting Elan's body. The area around him shook, buzzing, and then with a deafening BOOM the cloud of energy and darkness collapsed inwards, absorbing into Elan's body.

Elan's body was a shadow. It fuzzed in and out of reality, with two pits of shadow, somehow darker than the never ending blackness that made his body, for eyes. He shot into the air, following the dragon, leaving a trail of curling white energy behind him, crackling in his wake.

Pic panicked, almost choking on his sandwich. He fell for a few seconds, them remembered that he had a kid and a girlfriend falling with him. He tightened his grip on Aventine and Lundyn, and his staves sprang into existence around him. He hummed a very slow song, which was difficult in the circumstances, and the staves constricted around the two girls. Pic hung onto the staves and began to sing as loud as he could. The staves began to glow and slow their fall. However, about halfway down, one of Thaidakar's blasts clipped Pic's legs. Pic's grip loosened, and he began to fall.
