The darkness laughed, and it knew.

It formed into a shape that would scare thaidakar more than anything else. It formed into a reflection of Thaidakar itself, himself when he was not troubled, and approached him.

The Being that was Elan whirled around quickly. He was hovering above Aventine and Pic, the edges of the building around him melting and absorbing into his body as more of the black liquid. The being glanced down at Elan's two friends.

We kill them. We kill them both.

At this, however, something in the Being stirred.

No.

YES.

NO.

YES.

NO.

For once, Elan won the battle, and for a moment there could be seen two entities, trying to pull apart from one another in the dark figure, one shadowy, the other a blinding white. Then the shadow melted back around the white, dampening it's light, and leaving only The Being.

The Being moved back towards Thaidakar, slower than before, taking its time. The world around it warped, melted, and swirled around its body. Finally, it stood behind Thaid, a swirling vortex of liquid shadow around itself, Thaid, and the Ancient Primordial Darkness.

A whimper escaped Thaidakar, his eyes-eye now-pointed to the ground. His nails dug into the steel, twisting, biting into it. His breathing grew shallower and faster. He stood, looking right at the Ancient Darkness, ignoring Elan for now. Where his right eye had been was a narrow hole that showed the dark void sky behind him. The edges of the hole were charred and frayed, leaking red energy like worms. His other eye was glowing fiery with a look that could've melted mountains.

"You're not real," Thaidakar said, his voice like a sword, slicing through the air around them, "You were never real, you are not real and you never will be." IN the hole of his head, energy began amassing, crackling and sparking. He began to levitate as anger pulsed through him, making every bit of him shake. "I am Thaidakar, I am not a staff member, I am not a soulless, I am not a dragon, I am not some blasted dark god's champion! And, by all the names in heaven, I will be free from  you!"

The blast of energy struck Quinn, destroying its current shape, ripping its essence apart before shoving it back together.

"I am Thaidakar," Bolts of red energy swirled around him, moving from shape to shape, never staying in one form, "I am who I choose to be! You," He looked at Elan, his finger crowned with power, "You will not kill me. Your kind will not plague me. I am Thaidakar! I am Eternal! I will not be looked down upon anymore. I will not be ignored. I will not leave so that everyone can ignore me.

"My name," his voice hissed like lightning about to strike, "is Thaidakar. Remember it." Hundreds of bolts of energy cascaded on Elan with explosive energy, ripping, tearing, shredding, destroying.*

Thaidakar shot into the sky in his human form, lightning thrown every which way from his limbs, smiting any and all who would approach him.

Thaidakar turned, looking at the general area where Quinn was and laughed. "Maybe see how those descriptors apply to yourself before wielding them against another."

He reached for the fabric of the Void, hands bursting with energy. He felt tired suddenly as the energy flooded out of him, yet he kept going. Thaidakar pulled and pulled, getting closer and closer. There was a rip that could be heard for miles around.

There was a small hole in reality, opening to light. It was as big as a finger, really, but it had happened. Thaidakar kept puling and pulling, making it wider and wider, each rip become easier and easier.

The Being was thrown backwards, his entire form fuzzing. He burned, landing in front of Aventine and Pic, his breathing stopped. The darkness absorbed into his skin, leaving Elan's body laying there, normal, and limp. The ripple in the air that was Elan shook for a moment, then just before it dissipated it sent, one last time, don't stop. Don't stop the music. And then it was cut off.

Pic held her to try and support her.

He watched, helpless, as these beings of great power clashed above him. He knew his sheild would not work, so he tried a different preperation. He paused his song, and focused on what he wanted. He wanted Aventine and Lundyn safe. He wanted to take care of the both of them. He let those emotions guide his voice into a song, and trusted himself to do what was needed.

His voice stayed quiet, and began to hum a halting, jerking melody. It had hints of sadness, hints of hope, and most importantly, longing. The staves began to glow pink and slithered towards Lundyn's and Aventine's ankles. They wrapped around, mimicking a bracelet, and waited, thrumming with the music and pulsing with power. As Pic layered his music into a symphony with an untraceable tempo, the magic waited.

For in order to join a symphony, one merely has to sing.

She knew the way his magic worked. But her panic response wasn’t to make noise- it was to make herself as small and quiet as humanly possible. But.

That wouldn’t do anything. She made herself sing.

This is my fault. I should have known better.

This is what happens when you become part of someone’s life. You destroy it.

Her singing stopped completely, giving way to sobs.

As the music continues, Elan suddenly coughs. He sounds like he is going to lose a lung, but he’s alive.

There’s a desperate fear in his eyes.

Keep singing. And run… run… run my prey…”

The stave began to glow, and Pic felt magic be drawn out of his voice. Aventine began to fade away, and although Pic felt peace, he also felt stress.

He gripped Aventine’s hand, and smiled at her as she sang, and then began to panic as she sobbed. Her presence solidified again, and the anklet broke, redoubling around Lundyn’s other ankle.

Pic cursed, dropping the body at the change in voice. As he watched the dragon leave, he ran back to the base of the wreckage of the tower to find the others, practically dragging Aventine and Lundyn. Roy’s body was left behind.

“I tried to warn you.” She yanked her arm away from him and ran another direction. She lost herself in a crowd, never wanting to be found. Not by someone she cared about, anyway.

She summoned the dagger key. It barely existed here. Jabbing the wall, she willed it to take her to wherever Thaidakar was. She would either die there, or find a way to be alone.

She didn’t want it. But everyone else needed it.

Darknesses’ presence began to erode the dagger that Aventine had. No matter how much will she put into the dagger, it wouldn’t work.

As for Pic, he hesitated when Spark left, but Lindy was still on his back. He had to find the others, surely they had more experience than he did. He ran as fast as his legs could carry him.
