Edema Rue she/her Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 "I believe I have been eating food?"
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 "Well evidently not. Maybe I'm not a bad cook, but I'm certainly not a good one."
PyroPhile Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Pyro walked through the portal from Eltelia, and peeked his head in the kitchen. ”Oh, hello, Fadran. I smell soup.”
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 Just now, Aes Sedai said: "What is a cook?" "A professional food-maker." Just now, PyroPhile said: Pyro walked through the portal from Eltelia, and peeked his head in the kitchen. ”Oh, hello, Fadran. I smell soup.” "Oh, hello, Pyro. You do indeed."
Edema Rue she/her Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Rayvyn frowned. "There are people who make food? And do nothing else? Why would anyone do something so...boring?"
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 "Hey, remember what we decided. You have to expand your definition of fulfillment to beyond what you alone understand."
Edema Rue she/her Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Rayvyn made an unintelligible sound. "I do not like words. They are..." she made the sound again. "There are too many of them, and they mean the same thing!"
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 "Hm." Fadran sat down beside her, trying to think back to how he'd seen the world at her age. A lot less murdery, for sure. "Look at it this way. You use knives in battle, right? Why is that?"
Edema Rue she/her Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 "They are an easy way to kill people."
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 "Suppose someone else were to use a sword. Is that acceptable?"
xinoehp512 he/him Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Obsidian picked up a bowl of soup and stuck his face in it. "Pleasant sensation!" he declared. Then he surrounded the bowl in black goop.
PyroPhile Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 1 hour ago, Channelknight Fadran said: "Oh, hello, Pyro. You do indeed." “Could I have some?”
Telrao she/her Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 26 minutes ago, PyroPhile said: “Could I have some?” Eliira wordlessly served Pyro a bowl of soup, served one for herself, then retreated into her corner, sipping and smiling in delight.
Edema Rue she/her Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 (edited) 2 hours ago, Channelknight Fadran said: "Suppose someone else were to use a sword. Is that acceptable?" Rayvyn nodded, confused. “It will still kill people.” Edited February 7, 2023 by Aes Sedai
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 "What you must understand is that everyone views their world differently. How you are raised and what you learn are important to creating yourself as a person." Fadran pointed at her. "You happened to be raised in an absolutely garbage place, and that shaped you in a negative way."
Edema Rue she/her Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 (edited) Rayvyn slipped a knife into her hand, not in a threatening way as much as to reassure herself that she had it. "I am fine. I do not need your words. May we kill something?" Edited February 7, 2023 by Aes Sedai
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 "That's... what I'm trying to convince you to stop doing."
Edema Rue she/her Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Rayvyn gritted her teeth. "Are people not allowed to be who they are? If you favor the sword, are my daggers useless? Your words will change nothing."
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 "Have you heard of the Laws of Robotics?"
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 "A robot is an artificial being, usually without a real mind or soul. They created by people to perform specific tasks. My friend Kris has discovered that in several seperate universes, people who make robots independently develop three laws for them to follow." Fadran began sticking up fingers. "The first is that a robot must never harm a person: usually the kind of person who made it. The second is that a robot must always obey the orders of those who made it, unless the orders are to harm a person. The third is that a robot must protect its own existence, unless that goes against its orders or if doing so would harm a person. "Of course, these laws are completely arbitrary. You could totally create a robot that follows these laws in the wrong order, or doesn't even follow them at all. They are just standard guideliness to ensure we use them properly." Fadran sat back in his chair. "I've developed a similar set of rules for people, like you and me."
Edema Rue she/her Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 "I do not think I understand you." Rayvyn said, frowning. "Are you saying that I am a being with no heart or soul? Maybe I simply do not know your words. To kill is not to harm."
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 "The rules for people is different than those for robots. The first is that a person must protect their own and others' existence. The second is that a person must not harm another person, unless they must in order to defend themselves or other people. The third is that a person must respect other peoples' beliefs and worldview, unless it harms other people or prevents other people from remaining safe." Fadran sat back up again to look her in the eyes. "I know a lot of assassins and killers. If I'm being completely honest, I'm... something of a killer myself. I've fought in over three wars. In all that time I tried not to dwell on the people whose lives I ended, no matter what they were trying to do to me. What's important is that those people were trying to harm others and me, and I was acting to defend those people and myself. To go out and kill someone without reason is murder: it isn't honorable. Even if being a killer is part of your culture, you shouldn't impose that culture onto other people who have a different worldview than you."
Edema Rue she/her Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 “So you wish for me to ask people first?”
