"If you had enough power we weren't a threat you would have killed us, not prattle on about deals. I doubt that syrum does anything. You're just scared we could actually beat you, and want us to surrender so you can kill us without a fight."

The girl actually laughed. She glitched toward John––unconsciously avoiding Grace––leaning forward and smirking.

“I don’t think you have the time to make decisions like that,” the girl said, tsking as she glitched away from him before he could do anything. “If I wanted to kill you, my colleagues and I would’ve done so already and we wouldn’t be having this conversation. I’m just offering the chance for you to live without any repercussions.

“If you don’t want to make a deal, that’s fine,” she mused, bringing out the vial to swing around. “I would love to see how you deal with him without this vial and how you deal with my colleagues who don’t share my views on this.”

The girl glitched to Ji, cupping his face in her hand gently. “Isn’t that right, my dear?”

Ji heaved for breath, a stream bright red blood dribbling down his chin. His veins tried to glow, but they ended up flickering faintly before giving up. Everything was getting harder to do. Everything around him was going dark.

“Tick tock, tick tock,” she tsked, glitching onto a window sill high up. “You have only a few minutes left.”

Grace frowned. The girl had moved exactly when Grace transitioned. And she was a Space Mystic. Could she...?

Well, the point was moot for now. Grace couldn't reach the window sill even in the Enchanted Realm, so she'd have to try something different. But if the girl could simply teleport away from any attack, what could she do?

If her power works anything like the Orb, I should be able to ride along with her if I can grab her, Grace thought. But how to get her within reach? Well, maybe if she jumped around enough she'd end up on the ground again. Grace conjured a half-imagined knife and threw it at the girl, hoping that the projectile would provoke her.

Blasted Mystics. John thought.

John slid his propane tank out of his bag, but did his best not to call attention to it.

She's stalling, I need to be ready.

“Ah ah ah, deals are a two way street,” she said, glitching toward her, narrowly avoiding Grace’s knife. “You can’t get something from nothing…”

The girl reached out, touching her shoulder. Everything around them came to a halt, except her and the girl.

“Isn’t that right, Elya Pherish?” the girl asked, tilting her head at her.

The knife shattered harmlessly into dust on the windowsill as Grace transitioned into the Enchanted Realm.

Wait, is she a different Mystic beyond Space?

She’s never been a Space Mystic.

Elya shouted--almost screamed--in anger. She slashed upwards and across the girl, eyes turning down into a deep glare.

“I wouldn’t do that,” she sang as she avoided the attack––coming out with a little slash on her cheek––holding the vial out. The girl rolled it around in her fingers, getting dangerously closer and closer to falling.

“Why go through this trouble to heal one when you can save thousands, hm?” the girl wondered aloud. “Is there something else? Something I’m not seeing? Something you don’t want to admit? Perhaps involving him?”

Oh. Huh. Well, what color is she, then?

Light silver with dark shades of gray with little pops of blue.

As everything sped up back to normal around Elya and the girl, she glitched around, avoiding John’s shots and Elya’s slashes. There was no pattern to her glitching, appearing at any random moment at any point of time.

Ji’s coughs faded as he tried to breathe. He slowed down, almost coming to a stop as he gasped for precious air.

“Tick tock, tick tock,” the girl sang, smiling as the vial glimmering in the light. “The time is drawing nigh.”

“Hmm, tempting. Very tempting.” She glitched next to Ji, squeezing the vial between her fingers, tiny hairline cracks forming on the surface. “My deal is still on the table.”

“The fact that my colleagues haven’t killed you or I.” She squeezed the vial tighter, more cracks appearing. “The fact that I haven’t killed you yet.”

The girl grinned. “Good choice.”

She glitched over to Elya, calmly taking one of her hands, and dropping the vial in it. “We’ll see you on the battlefield, hm?” the girl said, giving her a wink before glitching away.

On the ground, Ji fell still, only his chest twitching slightly for a short intake of breath.

“Oh, and–” the girl appeared on the window sill, walking across it “–I would hurry if I were you. Pretty sure he has less than a minute left… hm, or was it ten seconds? Guess we’ll find out in a few.”

She gave them a mock salute, then glitched away.

Elya ran to Ji, dropped to her knees, then uncorked the vial. She pulled his mouth open and dribbled in the contents, then held it back shut and covered up his nostrils. Holding a hand to his throat, she tried in vain to steady her breathing.

"Come on, come on, come on..."

At first, nothing happened. Ji remained still with not even the slightest twitch.

Till he gasped, then began coughing. Blood still came up, but it wasn’t as much as before. Slowly, his breaths became consistent and a little more even. He was still deathly pale, but at least he was moving.

His eyelids fluttered open, if very, very weakly.

He sat for a moment, processing what was happening, till he mustered enough strength to return the embrace, not even caring about his bloodied hoodie staining her clothes.

“I said I would be,” he responded weakly, burying his face in her shoulder. “Did you doubt me?”
