  1. "The new sheriff? Yes, I've heard of her, I've never seen her in action, no one has. She works during the night, but believe me, she is not silent at all, she behaves like one of those mistborn of yesteryear, some rumor that she is. Just pray that your head isn't worth the coins she would spend to get to you." 2. So I was scrolling through the forums yesterday when I saw a topic discussing what the most useful twinborn combination would be in the modern day. After thinking about it I decided that F-Zinc would be my preferred Feruchemical power, and I realized that F-Zinc has been heavily underutilized. Mental speed is an amazing power for basically any situation, whether it be scholarship, combat, politics, sports, basically anything that takes a brain, which is most things. I imagine compounded zinc would have a similar effect of atium, not seeing the future, but being able to take in and calculate everything around you so fast that you can anticipate everything that's about to happen. Combined with rioting I think it could make for someone particularly threatening. I really want to see F-Zinc be utilized more in the future because it really is just an awesome power, and I can't stop thinking about the possibilities of compouned zinc.
  3. I've been rereading Mistborn and some of the things that steel inquisitors do make me giggle. Specifically I remember thinking it was a little funny that they had a whole celebration after converting Marsh. Mind you they were dismembering people but I just thought a bunch of these monsters rejoicing like this was funny. I also think the fact that they have to sleep so much is a bit funny. Like one guy can return from slaughtering a whole family, but then he has to go to bed because he sweepy. Uh please don't think I'm psychotic or something I just saw a bit of humor in how unapologetically evil these guys are.

  6. Sorry for the odd title, I'm not sure what else to call it. As I'm sure you're all aware, there are specific metals that have effects on investiture, and I don't just mean for the metallic arts. Aluminum has shown up multiple times and seems to have investiture negating powers in each appearance. allomantic metals have uses in Rosharan fabrials, and silver seems to have interactions with investiture despite the fact that it has no allomantic properties. All god metals are investiture active for obvious reasons. My question is just how much do we know about which metals interact with investiture. All metals are condensed power as described in HoA, but I don't know much about it past that. Even though I'm supposed to be up to date in the cosmere for the most part, it feels like there's still so much that I don't know. If you know anything about this, share your thoughts and whatnot, and thank you.
  7. So, I just watched(listened to?) the SP4 shardcast, and the discussion has me thinking about cosmere space travel, and how it will work. first off, its hard for me to imagine that any merchant, military, or travel in general, would opt for the danger of the voids of space, lightyears of travel, over what takes a few months to walk in shadesmar. but then that got me thinking about what shadesmar really is. As far as I understand it, shadesmar is a reflection of the collective cognitive view of the world, sort of inverted or abstracted in some ways. right now, the common knowledge of the regular people of the cosmere, not our min charcters but the normal citzens, doesn't entirely understand space and planets as a concepts yet. and, I think notably, we haven't seen shadesmar in any of the storys where they do. the general concept is that if you walk far enough in a direction, you'll get to a location. oceans are also a concept, a barrier to that physical travel, and their raw concept is also included in pretty much every place in shadesmar we have seen. so, I guess what I'm asking, is do we think it's possible, that once the majority of the cosmere understands space travel, that shadesmar will start to reflect that in its physical reflection of the world? and while i think, even if this did occur, the "space" in shadesmar wouldn't reflect the same distance as the physical world, it would explain why they would need to start using space travel instead of some elsecalling connection perpindicularty shenanigens. and i know that its hard to get between realms, but its also really hard to travel between solar systems. even with any kind of time dilation bullcrap they could pull, shadesmar, in the way it is right now, would be to convenient a avenue to not explore, and attempt to find easy ways to travel to and from the physical plane in any location. my second question is, propulsion. we have seen a few spaceships now, but we really don't know how they work, because the pov's we see them from are for the most part from a distance. do we expect several types of space travel, for each culture, or one type of fuel, some sort of pure raw investiture? I could see some sort of engine based of steel pushing or iron pulling labor to generate energy, or them doing some electromagnet propulision, and on the rosharan side, I'm sure there re some conection or elsecalling, maybe even fabrial stuff that they base everything off of, because i can't imagine lashings work efficiently when there's no gravity to redirect. elantris side (can't remember the planet name) will almost certainly go the raw investiture route, and awakening can really do some crazy things so i can imagine them being self sufficient. I kinda wanna steer clear of space fight discussion because... that is just a whole other beast entirely, but im really curious to hear other poeples thoughts on this cus i don't hear it talked about often
  8. I know posts like this have been made before but I haven't seen anyone suggest this order which I think is a crime considering how well it fits. Vin is a Stoneward. Her whole deal in Well of Ascension is about accepting that she's an assassin, the sword of the new empire. Her personal struggle is about her having to accept that she is more than her duty as a Mistborn. Like, she's not zealous about it, but Stoneward just fits, especially in HoA when she has accepted both parts of herself and trying to save the world. There's even this bit in HoA where the Tolkien guy is asking if she'll live up to the legends and turn the sun yellow again and she says that she has to try. "I will stand when others fall" that's an oath that we don't know which order it belongs to for sure, but most agree that it's Stoneward. That is literally the climax of the Final empire Kelsier falls and Vin has to stand. Speaking of, Kelsier is a Willshaper Elend is a Bondsmith Sazed is a truthwatcher
  9. Hello, this is a quick thread about curiosity basically. We know that to become an allomancer, you swallow a load of metals and, at least BC, beat to an inch of your life to make you Snap. Then you burn the metals. Harmony changed how Snapping works because he didn’t like it, so how does one find out they’re a Allomancer? Is it institutional, where kids in school are given metals to try and burn? And how about Feruchemy. Assuming it doesn’t require any form of Snap, how does one discover they’re one? Do you just stop by the Village and the Terris people give you some minds to hold? How do you find out you’re metal born?
  10. I know that there's MAG (Mistborn Adventure Game), but I just love Dungeons and Dragons, especially when I get to play with my family But I also really love Mistborn; I love the story, I love the magic, and I love the worldbuilding. So I'm currently making a homebrew overhaul of 3.5 D&d to better accommodate a Mistborn style setting, and I think I've got some good ideas, but I'd like some advice/suggestions if anyone is willing. I'm thinking about removing the class system and instead implementing a focus on Metalborn powers, where you could take Allomantic, Feruchemical, and Hemalurgic feats (in addition to general feats, of course) to build a more customizable character. For example, a Pewterarm could take a feat that allowed them to use Pewter dragging on top of the basic abilities provided by their Allomancy, increasing their repertoire. I think that I've got a good handle on most of the Allomantic and Feruchemical abilities, but Allomantic iron and steel in particular have got me worried; I want them to be cool and useful, but figuring out how to handle telekinetic powers is always a struggle in RPG games. Not to mention, I know I want Hemalurgic spikes to be an option for the players. In fact, they'd almost be necessary if they really want to mix powers and get the coolest builds available (no natural Mistborn or Full Feruchemist are in the setting as I have it right now). I just don't know how I want the penalty of the spikes to work (i.e., what they actually effect negatively). And don't even get me started on Koloss-bloods; I feel like there should be a special benefit or two for playing them, but I don't know yet how to balance it out properly with non-Koloss-bloods. Should it be like a Metalborn power on its own? Should it take a Feat at first level? Should it be a racial option and the other non-Koloss-bloods should get something to help boost them to compensate? Anyway, it's still a pretty young idea right now, so it will take a while to polish up, but I sure wouldn't mind some ideas or suggestions from others in the meantime
  11. This appears to be a metalmind that takes medalliontech a step by making tapping the metalmind obligatory. It's not just that you *can* tap the metalmind, you have to. Normally, tapping a metalmind requires intent, which is why when Wax had the memory coin he couldn't even tap it until he knew what it was. So this is weird! Do we have any speculation as to how this might be done? Is it even a metalmind like I think? I have thoughts that it might involve F!Electrum, but that's obviously highly speculative so I'm curious if anyone has other thoughts.
  12. In advance I'd like to apologise for very long post and for mistakes. English is not my 1st langauge. Also couple of things to clarify at the begining: - I'm a huge fan of Cosmere universe and books and read most of them. - I'll be using some comparision to Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson and Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. After finishing Lost Metal last week I have quite a lot of worries when it comes to future of Cosmere books and how to approach them. Not to mention that LM is 2nd book after Rythm of War that makes it difficult for me to recommend the series to new readers. That's also quite the irony because on the surface Cosmere books are easy recommendation - Not only writing is, as usual, fantastic (that being said - exposition dumps in LM were... overwhelming at some points) but also, I honestly don't know if I love or dislike the "new" approach that B. Sanderson have to his books. On personal level I find it hilarious how I can't decide between the two. So why the negative? And why am I worried? I started my adventure with B. Sanderson books with the Way of Kings. Then I picked up it's sequels, Mistborn and finally shorter novels and older books as well. After reading tWoK I also read some insights into Cosmere and I found it really interesing how B.S decided to create separate stories while at the same time keeping some level of connectivity via shared universe. It reminded me of Terry Pratchett's approach. An author who made a canvas for himself by designing entire world to keep a level of cohesiveness and some loose connections but at the same time made sure that stories within the books don't require in-depth knowlage about entire universe. It made it so each book (or series) could be as good as possible - escaping the issue with share universes where the best is kept for the last - but it also gave long time readers some easter eggs and connections. Best of both worlds. But then Mistborn era 2 and Rythm of War happened... And Cosmere-level of knowlage started to feel like necessity rather than addition. Especially Lost Metal and Rythm of War. I know that some folks disagree and I saw argument that you can still make sense about what's going on without knowlage from other series. Or how Marasi in LM serves as readers avatar and we learn things throught her eyes as we go. Well partially I can see that argument being valid. But it's mostly becasue B. Sanderson is skilled writer not because it's good idea IMO. What I mean by that is that exposition dumps are MASSIVE in LM. We are being fed huge amount of Cosmere lore. We're introduced to brand new planets, new magic concepts, new characters, new powers and so much more. And even tho it's all written well (that's the skill) it's still overwhelming and feels like trying to bite more than the book can chew. And for the 1st time reading B. Sanderson book - I felt that main plot suffered a lot because of it. It lost quite a lot of it's focus that I usually find in his books. The worst thing being - The ending. Instead of feeling like proper closure - In the same way Mistborn era 1 felt. I was left with loose ends that I know will be continued in some way in Mistborn era 3... and Stormlight (among other cosmere books). With Stormlight I'm starting to have similar feelings. Thankfully it's still the more focused series, more interested in it's own story but RoW already was a book in which I knew I'd be missing quite a lot if I haven't read other Cosmere books. Like Kelsier/ghostbloods connection. Again - Some people argued against that but this time I can't see this being valid argument. Imagining not knowing who Kelsier was in context of Stormlight opened my eyes to the problem I'm writing about in this post. I would be missing HUGE amout of potential consequences that might happen in the future books. So - What's the real problem I have? Well let's start with quality of each book. I love B. Sanderson books. I'm always waiting like crazy for new ones, tWoK is one of my favorite books of all time etc. That being said LM was, IMO, one of his weakest books overall and weakest book in the "main" series (Mistborn/Stormlight/Elantris) for the resons I mentioned before - Instead of feeling like a proper closure where author "gave it all" it felt like exposition dump with the best "yet to come". Like one of those Marvel movies before Avengers. Holding back because all budget will to the grand finale. Another problem I have is focus. Stormlight especially was very focused series for the first 2 books. It was dealing with gods, heroes, magic etc. - Sure, but even knowing about Cosmere it always felt like Stormlight is more interested in it's own conflict between protagonists and Odium. Now tho - It also starts to feel like preparation for more cosmic-scale of event with Mistborn and Stormligh coliding in near future. It's especially problematic in LM - There were some points of the book where I could almost see B. Sanderson being more interested in introducing new magic system knowing he'll use it in other book series instead of focusing on the main story. That was... Not good. Then there's complexity. I read Malazan Book of the Fallen multiple times. A series that's famous for it's complexity and depth. It's also perfect example of complexity done right. It requires a LOT of attention but it never feel disjointed or forced. It also counts on readers attention and not on dumping massive amount of info without context expecting reader to just "rememer it all" I don't have that feeling with recent Cosmere books. LM and RoW feel different than previous B. Sanderson books. Almost like he previously wanted to have more separate stories with some loose connections to Cosmere but at some point he decided "actually, I do want a full on crossovers and cosmic level of events between them all!" I don't know if that's true of course. I just get that feeling from his recent books. And finally - Recommendations. Couple years ago if anyone would ask me about book recommendation I'd easly say "anything from B. Sanderson!" but now... I'm reluctant to do so. Instead of "pick up any series and have time of your life!" it became "pick up any series... and then another series... and then a shorter novela" and I find it difficult to honestly say to folks to read all those books knowing just how massive commitment it is. To close this of. The irony - The irony is that like I said at the begining. I don't know if I like it or not. On one hand I love the books, writing, characters and lore. I'm exited for each new book and I'm invested in what's gonna happen next. On the other - I miss the focus and "giving it all" in each series instead of dumping massive amout of information "for the future". Anyway - I know this is the new reality of Cosmere books and my post won't change a thing. I just don't have anyone to share my thoughts with so I hope it's okay to write post this long in here. I do apologise for it's length. Worst case scenario - Use it as a perfect way to go to sleep;)
  13. So like the sun was just rising over the pits of hathsin . That means that the half the Western Dominance and all of the southern and farmost Dominances as well as the southern isles were still in the night . Millions of PPL must have lived there . Did sazed accidentally kill them all while remaking the world. I'm pretty sure it's mentioned somewhere, may e in a wob that only the PPL in the caverns survived.
  14. I've really only seen Vax and Senna both appear in Secret History and was wondering if we knew anything more than that?
  15. Wendarr cracked his door open to peer onto the street, which was enshrouded by the Deepness despite the early hour. The road was empty as far as he could see, evidence of the violent sickness that had overtaken some who ventured out at night. Despite his own fear, the whispers in Wendarr’s head had grown louder over the recent weeks, until he could no longer resist them. Burn! Destroy the town! Kill! He shook his head, returning to the present. Surely only the divine could speak into the mind of a person directly. Wendarr stepped out onto the street, flinching as his stomach rumbled. He glanced furtively around again despite the poor visibility of the early evening. The guiding voice had no advice on staying fed, and last year’s harvest had been the worst in the history of the Copper’s Bend. Folk had only survived by trading their ore with Alendi’s passing army, but those supplies were strictly rationed, so nearly everyone was hungry these days. Wendarr made his way toward the harbor, any noises muffled by the cloak of mist coating the world. *Smack* Lost in thought, Wendarr rounded a final corner and ploughed head-on into someone passing the other way. Kill him! Reacting instinctively, Wendarr reached to his belt and unsheathed a knife. The other person, face still indistinct, had stumbled backward, but seeing drawn steel pulled his own weapon, a sword. Wendarr’s own arm, strengthened both by his time in the mines and the urging of the voice, drove his knife above the man’s guard and into his neck. At the same time, he felt a horrendous shock through his chest. His opponent’s sword had run him all the way through. Wendarr staggered back, finally recognizing the swordsman as Mick, one of the town guards. The two locked eyes, then each toppled to the ground, their blood running over the already damp cobbles. As his vision faded into darkness, the voice echoed again through Wendarr’s head, exultant this time. KILL! Arwhin, mayor of Copper’s Bend, stood over the bodies of Wendarr and Mick, mixed feelings of sadness and relief reflecting across his face. He finally had the beginnings of an answer to the recent streak of disappearances. Still, Wendarr alone could not account for all the troubles plaguing his town. He nudged the dead man’s body with his boot, and a glimmer of light reflected off some metal through a tear in Wendarr’s shirt. Leaning down, Arwhin saw that a spike of steel was embedded in the man’s ribs. Arwhin frowned, and with a little effort ripped the bit of metal out, turning it over in his hand. Strange indeed. But he would consider any clues that could help them survive until Alendi reached the Well of Ascension. Welcome to the village of Copper’s Bend! LG ##: A Tale of Mists and Metal occurs on Scadrial prior to the ascension of Rashek to Lord Ruler. The mists last long into the day in your village, and strange deaths have been occurring at night. Can you rally the townsfolk and hold out long enough for Alendi to save the world? This game must be played entirely in character, including your PMs. In your signup post include your character's name, occupation, and at least one significant character trait. Feel free to inquire about the setting or add to it as you wish, though I'll be sticking fairly close to my interpretation of the Mistborn canon in my writeups. The rules can be accessed at the link or in the spoiler below: The IM for this game is @Devotary of Spontaneity. Signups have begun and will last for a week, until Sunday November 19 at 6:00 PM EST. This will be the standard rollover time as well, unless something comes up. Player List: Spectators: Pinch-Hitters: Quick Links:
  16. Greetings, fellow Rioters. If you burn zinc to influence others' emotions, this is the place for you to discuss tricks of the trade, highs, lows, etc. Remember it's bad form to use allomancy on fellow rioters here, so none of that unless both parties are fine with it. Let's try to get as many rioters here as possible. GjornHrathen
  17. I’m working on a backstory for a Mistborn D&D character. I was thinking it would be cool if she lived in the time appx 100 years after Rashek’s ascension. Iirc That was when Mistborn really started appearing, and they were much more powerful then. I then thought it would be interesting if she was a descendant of Alendi. Has it ever been said if he had children before he died? Is there any info out there on this time period? sorry if it’s been asked before, I’m afraid of searching/browsing too much until I finish Rhythm of War!
  18. OK. So I'm partway through Yumi (no spoilers please) and have noticed a recurring theme in cosmere books. Now I'd like to state here, clearly that I am simply curious as to if anyone else has noticed and nothing I say is ever intended as a slight on Brandon. Now with that said, has anyone else noticed there's a lot of bathing scenes??? It's a big part of Yumis daily life, vin has a bath scene, as does siri in warbreaker and Shallan and jasnah in stormlight. I think maybe serene had one in elantris as well but could he wrong.
  19. OK, I don't know if I've seen this theory before, but I think it's definitely possible: Discord will be more Preservation than Ruin. Most people assume that Discord will be more Ruin than Preservation for several reasons. But I don't think that is the case. I'm going to try to articulate in a few points: (1) Atium was burned by Elend and crew right before Sazed took up the shards of Preservation and Ruin; (2) Major discord happened in Era 1 because of Preservation's influence; (3) Sanderson uses music and psychophysics a lot to help us understand the shards (i.e., discord happens a lot when you are "preserving" a note too long). 1) From what I understand, Leras splintered off a part of Ati's power to create Atium. As long as Leras, as Preservation, could block Ati from retrieving it, Ati was somewhat weakened. This helped make sure Ruin could not overpower Preservation. When Vin takes up Preservation's power, she is equal to Ati's power. Ati's goal was to get the Atium and thus have the upper hand. However, Elend and his Atium mistings burned it before he could regain it. The atium should theoretically regenerate, but that takes time. The power that was burned is in a transition state, waiting to seep back into the world at the Pits of Hathsin. But this takes hundreds of years. Merely minutes after all the Atium was burned by Elend, Vin kills Ati, and Sazed takes up their shards. The Atium in the transition state would not turn back into Atium. It would turn into Harmonium, equal parts Preservation and Ruin. Half of the Atium that was burned got converted into Preservation's power. Sazed, holding both shards, would have access to it (i.e., Leras is dead, and no one is acting as a gatekeeper). Harmony, therefore, has a tiny bit more Preservation in them than they do Ruin. 2) Discord happens whenever the two shards are out of balance. It doesn't just happen when Ruin is stronger than Preservation. Case in point, Era 1 was dominated by Preservation's influence. Preservation had "locked up" Ruin in the Well of Ascension. The Lord Ruler was Preservation's idea, and the Lord Ruler was not a harmonious leader. As a matter of fact, I would argue he created quite a bit of discord. 3) If there's anything we've learned from the Rhythm of War, it's that Brandon Sanderson uses music to help us understand investiture. The right musical harmonies can be used to combine stormlight and voidlight for example. Harmony, meaning Sazed, is currently in harmony, when using music as a metaphor. But how could there be discord (i.e., something not in harmony)? Well, there are a couple ways. One way would be to play sort of random notes that aren't octaves, perfect fifths etc. That would be something like "ruining" the music. People would hate that. Another way, however, is to keep playing a note even as the rest of the music moves on. You're "preserving" a note that doesn't harmonize with new chords. This creates discord. People LOVE discord in music, especially when it is mixed with harmony. You're not ruining the music, but making it better. Hence the " His name shall be Discord, yet they shall love him for it." Just a crazy idea (that I think is just crazy enough to be correct)!
  20. Here's a depiction of the Good Hemalurgist looking at his notes (this is actually the first time I've tried to work with light and dark areas, so hopefully it doesn't look too scraggly). They contain religious writings and rituals from Steel Inquisitors, Set experiments, and his own experiences dealing with Hemalurgy.
  21. Here's another one of him. I tried to make this one a bit more detailed than the last few.

Here’s some Vin art I did with alcohol markers, which I’ve never used before
  23. As we saw in TLM, malwish medallions can store ferruquemic and also food (BoM) capabilities, and this worries me because it takes away a lot of the main plots of hemalurgy in scadrial at least, I don't see people vying for powers in a world where they can simply buy medallions, therefore, the use that I foresee for hemalurgy in the future of the planet would be creating new species or improving current ones
  24. So this has been bothering me since I reread RoW. In Mistborn ruin and Preservation are opposites, both logically and physically as they destroy each other. It makes sense that there is a shard for both preservation and ruin as they are fundamentally different and represent aspects of the cosmere. Because they are logical opposites, there investitures are also opposites. However, in RoW Navani insinuates that opposite investitures must be created. What does this mean then? Do all shards have an opposite shard or do some shards just not have an opposite? I've taken a quick look at the known shards and I can't find reasonable opposites for some of them, whether or not this is due to personal error, it doesn't look like all shards have opposite shards, but some do? If anyone knows more about this please inform me.
  25. Mistborn normally don't have noticeable Resonances due to the large number of powers they have- such Resonances effectively get washed out of their system. But what if you non-lethally spiked a Mistborn of all but two or three of their powers? Would they then develop a Resonance between multiple Allomantic powers? Perhaps if they found a way to heal their Spiritweb (ahem, F-gold Hemalurgy) they could experiment and discover some new Resonances that wouldn't normally exist (the cost wouldn't be worth the benefit really, but hey, hypothetically I think that it'd work).
