Long Game 5: Noble Secrets
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Mailliw73's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Apologies for the length. I started typing and it just kept growing. I won't be offended if you don't take the time to read it. I promise, my future RP posts won't be so long (hopefully) Awes labored up the last few steps to the stables then laid his burden down to take a breather. He needed to compose himself before facing the demon that awaited just beyond the doors. In most ways, taking care of Sebarial’s Ryshadium was a dream job. Stomper was largely self sufficient. All Awes had to do was deliver fresh feed every morning. The only problem was that the wind blasted beast had a burning dislike for Awes. The feeling was definitely mutual. He barely ever made it out of the stable without losing a few chunks of clothing (and in many cases skin). Every morning was a battle but if he got through it, he had the rest of the day to do whatever he wished. Awes took one lost long breath, shouldered the bag, and then pushed open the doors into Stomper’s pen. He came to an abrupt halt and dropped the food again in surprise. The Ryshadium was happily munching away on a large pile of feed. “Where did that come from?” Stomper casually looked up from his meal and shrugged, if a horse could shrug with it’s eyes that is. He then went back to eating as if to say the groomsman’s services would not be required this morning. Awes gave the top of the horse’s head an angry glare then picked the bag up and turned to leave. A very loud whinny from behind pulled him up mid step and he looked over his shoulder to find Stomper eyeing him quite intently. “What?” The horse quite poignantly looked at the bag, then down to the pile of feed at his feet, then back to Awes. “You can’t be serious? There’s more food there than you can possibly finish as it is. You don’t need more.” He started to take another step but immediately stopped again when every one of Stomper’s massive muscles tensed up in preparation for a charge. Awes had seen it many times before and he had barely made it out alive on a few previous occasions when the Ryshadium had that look about him. “Fine! Eat so much you can’t even walk. It’s not like anybody would want to ride you anyway, you flee infested, chull brained, storm blasted.... Sorry! Sorry! I didn’t mean it. Here, take the food!” Awes quickly dumped the contents onto the other pile of feed then stepped out of the horses bite range. Uproariously laughter greeted him from behind and Awes turned in surprise to find Highprince Sebarial rising to his feet. “Brightlord, forgive me. I didn’t realize you were sitting there.” “No need to apologize my boy. Witnessing the way you master my humble Ryshadium will give me inspiration when facing all my challenges this day.” Awes felt the heat rise to his face at the realization of what the brightlord had just seen but Sebarial continued talking as if he thought nothing of it. “I often come here to discuss important decision with Stomper. Normally, the burdens of leadership bring me here seeking advice in the evening but news of troubling events came early this morning. I decided to have our chat over breakfast for a change.” “What troubling events your brightlord? If I may ask.” “You may indeed. Everyone will know soon enough. The king is dead. Assassinated. By whom, is not yet clear. I never much liked the man myself but his unexpected death will cause no end of headaches for the kingdom and for me in particular, which makes me like him even less.” “The summons, delivered to me strangely enough by some depressing chap named Summon, requested that I attend a gathering of the high lords. The assassins will have to be identified and a new king chosen. It is unlikely I would be considered for the position and I have no intentions of wasting a moment of my time listening to those other fools drone on about why they deserve the title so I’ve been discussing with Stomper who I should send in my stead. We both agreed that you will do nicely.” “Me sir? But I’m just a stable groom. I wouldn’t know the first thing about rooting out assassins or choosing a king!” “Nonsense, nonsense. You’ve survived Stomper for six years. Those crem filled brightlords will be a walk in the park by comparison.” Despite the surge of panic and the feeling he might faint at any moment, Awes had to admit the prospect of having such an important role was exciting. More importantly, he would be escaping that mad horse. “Besides, it’s not as though I’d send you on such an important mission alone.” Awes relaxed a little at that news. “Yes, Stomper would be distraught without you here to take care of him so I’m sending him along with you. He has reluctantly agreed to let you ride him. Riding a Ryshadium will give you some added respect in the eyes of the other brighteyes. What do you think of that?” The ground rushed towards his face at an alarming speed but fortunately everything went black before he hit the ground. Edit: grammatical error -
This is what is said right after Rock first indicates he can see Syl: Rock can see her even if she doesn't want him to.

Hey all - New memeber here!

YA = Young Adult. It usually refers to books aimed at middle school / high school age -
Yes, the infinity gauntlet/gems are a very prominent part of the marvel comics. They are much better than dragon balls which are pretty worthless until you collect the set and even when they are collected you just get a wish. The infinity gems each instill the holder with power and when you put all six together in the gauntlet you can warp reality however you like. No need to ask a dragon for help

Yes, his non cosmere work is well worth the time as Delightful said. He also has a number of short fiction works that are largely free to read up on his website: http://brandonsanderson.com/library/ I particularly enjoyed Defending Elysium, Firstborn, and Shadows for Silence (though you have to buy and anthology to read that one) -

The tesseract is kind of like an Easter egg (it's similar to the cosmic cube from the comics) but will play into the overarching story marvel is putting together with the movies. One of the major marvel universe stories was Thanos acquiring the infinity gauntlet and all the infinity gems that power it, then using the gauntlet to control the reality of the universe itself. A few things in some of the second phase movies (especially Thor 2) suggest that the tesseract is really one of the infinity gems along with the ether from Thor 2. The upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie will likely revolve around a third infinity gem that Thanos is trying to get his hands on. I would guess that the third avengers movie will be about stopping Thanos from getting all six gems.

Guess I should clarify that I was not being serious at all when I suggested he put it on his chest.

This the WoB you meant? He notes that the clues are in various places so the death rattles and diagram are as good of guesses as any but it should be noted that the way he states it makes it sound like no one source will contain the full picture.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

Things just got out of hand though when those students from Alethi High transferred over. How was I supposed to take anything the physics teacher said seriously when that windrunner clique kept walking around on the ceiling? -

I really enjoyed hemalurgy 101 but those lab practicals were murder -
Well the idea of a champion comes from Honor's messages to Dalinar but the only thing he talks about is trying to force Odium to appoint a champion. He doesn't even imply that an opposing one needs to be appointed. For all we know, choosing a champion is just something someone on one side of the oathpact can do regardless of whether the other chooses one so there is no reason to assume the good side will even have a champion. But if we assume both sides will choose one, there is nothing that indicates a champion has to represent a specific shard or be appointed by one. I interpret it as just being a stipulation in the oathpact. If one side chooses to, they can appoint a champion for some kind of advantage. The other side can also appoint one but it doesn't necessarily have to be a shard that appoints them, just likely someone of authority on that side might it be a shard, herald, or the head of the KR. Just because Honor is gone doesn't automatically mean Cultivation is the only one that can choose someone now. So, I feel like Kaladin has just as much chance of being the champion as Shallan, Dalinar, or even Lift. Edit: I just reread the passage and the wording of the statement is a little difficult to tell if Honor is saying if he vexes Odium enough he might take the chance and choose a champion or if he was saying that, if Dalinar chooses a champion, Odium might take that challenge and choose one himself. Either way, my argument still stands that there is no reason to think only a Shard can choose the champion.

How did the Recreance Happen?
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Patrick Star's topic in Stormlight Archive
The biggest clues to what happened are in the epigraphs from the Words of Radiance book. Here are the ones I find most significant to figuring out what happened. I put them in order of chapter rather than the order they are presented in SA2. I'm still coming up with scenarios of what happened based on those tidbits of information so don't have any strong theories but thought it would be good to have those listed in this thread. -
1337 means Leet, which stands for elite. It is the name of a hacker/gamer language that uses symbols, characters and numbers to represent Latin based words but it is also often used by those groups to indicate someone who is overpowered or really skilled.

Long Game 4: Colours of War
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Claincy's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yeah, that was an oversight on my part. I did actually mean to mention to you that my biggest goal was to completely win the game, not even the score, but I got caught up with figuring out how much of the plan to give each person due to the information leak we had and forgot I hadn't actually passed along that extra bit of incentive to stick with us. Yet another example of why I need to start keeping my own notes for these games and not relying completely on memory. -
Question because I'm bored

I could certainly beat a a twilight werewolf, as long as the competition was based on who could competently portray a character with any semblance of a personality. -

I'd just like to note that if Wilson hadn't killed me, I had no intentions of "evening out" the numbers and going to peace talks. I had gone over every angle in my head how we could wipeout the idrians to the last man and still ensure she was eliminated when that was finished. Unfortunately, we had to trust she would stick with us last night for any hope of that succeeding. Plus, Aili's lifeless meant wil'son wouldn't have been able to kill her as was the plan anyway. Oh well. It was still fun trying to pull it off. -
There are different ranks for misting, mistborn, feruchamist, full feruchamist, and twinborn. I can see what Kaladin will be after his 5th oath as being different enough from what Szeth is to be a separate rank Edit: just realized I'm truthless hope somebody evil doesn't have my stone

It's actually a pretty obscure reference, even if you happen to be familiar with the group it comes from, which is why I'll give up votes for someone who recognizes it. I'll give the links later today if no one can place it. -
Master List of Origins™: the Ultimate Nationality Thread

Just so South America has a little representation, Neru is from Brazil. I remembered someone a while back talking about likely being the only person on here from Brazil. And Olorin is from South Africa. Now we just need a polar researcher to be a Sanderson fan so we can add Antarctica. -
