  1. I'll second the Soonie pups and the physics textbook with coinshot problems. I was just in physics class the oth day, and I thought, "This would be so much more interesting if I was calculating Wax's velocity before and after he increased his mass, instead of some boring rocket problem."
  2. Oh, Harmony... The madness has spread. Soon it shall affect all of the Shard. Doom shall fall! Doom, doom, doom I tell you! Sorry for the melodrama.
  3. Yeah. Brandon actually warned everyone before he read it, when he signed in SFO. "I know you're all used to it from reading Game of Thrones, but it's gory for me."
  4. I just read through that, and I still have no idea what happened. It looked like fun, though.
  5. When I saw this post I shuddered, because it reminded me of the sequels to Indian in the Cupboard. You know, how the grandma or whatever would always imagine all of the terrible things going into a bucket, and then they got dumped into the cupboard... I did not like those books. I'm pretty sure I don't want to know what that is.
  6. Hemalurgy can steal both Allomantic and Feruchemical powers, yes, but you can only steal one power from a person, just like you could only take one power from a Mistborn, because Hemalurgy (almost) always kills you in the process. Does anyone have a quote saying Archivists no longer exist? Because I must have missed that. There were Mistborn after a thousand years, yes, but there was no Feruchemy interfering with their sDNA, so that doesn't apply all that much. He did. He put everything that was in his copperminds into the Words of Founding.EDIT: He reused the Feruchemical spikes. If they found a Feruchemist, they would of course spike him, but by this point they were mostly reused. Here's the WoB: EDIT 2: edited for brevity.
  7. That's a bit mixed up. Allomancy is pure Preservation (and is end-positive), Hemalurgy is purely Ruin (and is end-negative), and Feruchemy is the mixture. And here's your quote:
  8. Okay, thanks. I thought that might be the case, just because no one was mentioning it, but I wanted to make sure.
  9. I would quibble with the 'darkest flashback ending ever' bit. I think Shallan's is a little bit worse than even that would be, but I could be wrong. I suppose it would depend on what Dalinar actually did and why.
  10. Doesn't Kaladin get another flashback in the second half, or has that changed?
  11. There you go.
  12. My younger sister had a British accent when we were young. Not because we knew any British people or because we'd actually been to Britain, but because she couldn't pronounce her r's. She eventually got better after some speech therapy.
  13. We have no idea what the black gem was, but it seems unlikely to have been the largest splinter of Honor. (It's still possible, just not very likely compared to other theories.) A popular theory on the formus seems to be that it's the equivalent of a gem infused with Stormlight, except of Cultivation or Odium. Its description kind of implies 'evil', which kind of implies Odium, but that's a tenuous connection. We really have no idea what it is.As for your second question, that's not really a question. It's more of a theory. It's an interesting theory, but we have no idea if it's true or not.
  14. I'll have to say Marsh.
  15. You get a giraffe! *inserts theory*
  16. I think it (for the next tournament) a team up could just be a third option, so you can say who you think is better or that they should team up. Vasher vs. Sylphrena. That's difficult. Syl, I think. I can't explain why, though.
  17. These two quotes seem to confirm for me what everyone's been saying: Magic on Sel is weird because it's mainly in the Cognitive Realm, rather than the Spiritual.
  18. I second that.
  19. That wouldn't even need a Steelrunner. Just a Nicroburst could do that. It'd be very useful, though they'd have to be actually burning their metals to make a difference. Side note: what happens when you flare copper? Or duralumin+copper? Of course, you wouldn't even have to spike them later. It'd be equally useful just to know who's an Allomancer and who (probably) isn't.
  20. I dreamed that I was playing a game in a swimming pool where everyone had to pretend to be dead, and I won because I could burn cadmium, so no one could see that I was breathing. That's my most recent one. One of the weirdest ones I remember quite clearly. At first, I'm up at the top of one of those giant bouncy blowup slide things (you know, the kind they have at carnivals), which was flying. There were a whole lot of other people up there too. We fly over some plains, and then I see a giant sandstorm approaching. For no apparent reason, I slide down and take the place of the person pulling the slide through the air (on a flying surfboard made of pure gold) and immediately outrun the sandstorm, flying out over the ocean. That's all I can remember.
  21. And you could always look for it at your local library. That being said, none of the 4 libraries I access in my area have Alcatraz 2, 3, or 4, so there is that... But you can probably ask them to order it if they don't have it.
  22. Hi! Welcome to the 17th Shard! You might have heard about the Cosmere, but if you haven't, here you go. I hope you have fun here!
  23. Hi and welcome to the 17th Shard! Which books have you read? Also, do you know about the Cosmere?
