The economics of Aviars and conclusions drawn from that
RShara replied to Oltux72's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It might also have become a status symbol. "Look, I'm so elite, I've got my own Aviar!" -
Traveling off of round worlds in the Cognitive Realm

I don't have a really good answer to that. Atium makes people better at killing, but does it affect what they see? That's an interesting thought exercise. Perhaps it doesn't affect what they see, but it does affect what they do with what they see? Or because atium is such a small amount of fore-vision, it only tinges them a little bit?

speculation [OB]The Dangers of Seeing the Future
RShara replied to RShara's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Brandon has since revealed that it's because Renarin can also see the future, so that messes with Odium's seeing the future, similar to atium vs atium.- 23 replies

It's possible to have hatred turned to positive things. Like hatred of injustice and such. It would require a strong will, of course, because extremism generally isn't very good.

You should read my thread that I linked

Hahaha yeah that would make things sort of awkward!

No worries. I don't think anyone has figured it out yet, anyway

Secret History Question (spoiler for Oathbringer)
RShara replied to John Wayne's question in Cosmere Q&A
Honestly, Hoid's origins are so mysterious and weird, and his travels and abilities on top of that, that his eyes could be glowing for a dozen reasons. We just don't know right now. But I highly doubt Stormlight is the only way to get an eye glowing effect. -
I actually made a thread about 1 a while back Normal atium is considered futuresight. Duralumin+atium pulled him partway into the Spiritual Realm and let him see what he should do in order for the world to be okay. Yep, any of them that can reliably and repeatedly see the future should have some issues. I don't know that all of themwould be blacked out completely, but some of their "writing" ought to be fuzzy or grayed a bit. I don't think the Returned would be blacked out. They only get the singular vision, and just once, and don't always/often remember it when they come back. I don't think that's enough to substantially affect their "writing."

Yep, it would negate the magical cutting effects of a Shardblade, but it's still a very soft metal against a hard, sharp, pointy object. FYI, you can find the collection of answers that we've gotten from Brandon (called WoBs or Words of Brandon) over on wob.coppermind.net, aka Arcanum. The search is pretty easy. This one comes up under "aluminum+shardblade" for instance, and is a great resource for questions that have been answered

You're sorta ruining my joke here

It's only a code if he's intending to actually communicate words with it. Pretty sure his humming is just thoughtful sounds, like people when they go Hmmmm to think.
-
I have this sudden image of Pattern humming/tapping in Morse code for other Cryptics to pick up. Hmmmm Hm. Hmmmm Hmmmm Hmmmm. Hmmmm Hmmmm. Hm Hmmmm. Hmmmm. Hm Hm. Hmmmm Hm. Hmmmm Hmmmm Hm.

Sadly, I haven't made an actual topic on it, I've just expounded on it in a few threads. I started to make a topic but the forum ate my post when I was on point 7/10 and I haven't had the heart to retype it all. But basically, yes, everything about T, from the Diagram to his intellect/compassion days, is a giant long con by Cultivation. The Diagram on the surface is meant to "save" Roshar the way T thinks it should. But so far, it's only actually managed to help Dalinar and his coalition. Without the deats of all those people, the coalition probably wouldn't even be in place, and Dalinar wouldn't be the head of it. There are likely subtle "flaws" built into it to ultimately sabotage Odium's plans. T himself is another trap. His variable intellect makes Odium think it's safe to confront him on his low-intellect days. But on his low intellect days, he's going to follow the instructions of his high intellect days. His high intellect days would follow the Diagram, which...well, yeah. And even on his high intellect days, I wouldn't be surprised if Cultivation had planted some hidden knowledge for him to "realize" that would continue to further her plans.

Well yeah, heh. It's not a concrete rule. We know that with sufficient power, you can Push/Pull on anything that has even metal in its chemical formula. But those are pretty rare and special cases. So yeah, it is a reasonable rule of thumb, as you say
-
I don't recall Shade animals either, myself.
-
I would basically consider that if you google it and it's called a metal, it'll be Push/Pullable, otherwise not.

How Would Ruin Have Gotten the Atium? What does that mean?

Seconding the suggestion to read the Annotations. They're great! -
One of the things I love about the worldbuilding...
RShara replied to The Kraken's Daughter's topic in Stormlight Archive
You should also read Mistborn Era 1 and then Era 2. It's really cool watching how they advance with magic in the mix. -
Yeah I think that they would. Cryptics are kinda strange. They don't really mind "dying" as much as the other spren seem to. Pattern seems pretty sure that she can die and get another spren to bond. And considering the number of Cryptics hanging around important people, it seems like they would catch on fast and be able to send someone else quickly.

Yeah we can't break right now, since Puzzle potluck starts in a few days. Hints are good. I'd also like the Leaderboard moved to this page, so we don't have to skip around.- 79 replies
