I can sympathize with him while simultaneously wanting to slap him upside the head, right?
-
Ah. Yeah that's what I think is in them.
-
Unknown, but I personally doubt it.
-
Their bodies were healed enough for them to return to them. I don't think they're "stapled" to their bodies, they were just caught before 100% death and put back in. Maybe a step between a regular person and a CS?

I don't think so. They change forms, but they're still the same person, Physically and Cognitively. Soulcasters take the object and change it to something else, Physically and Cognitively. Chasmfiends and a few other creatures seem to change forms as well, so it might just be a natural adaptation to Roshar, or something funky that Adonalsium thought would be cool.

Right, but it's likely harder for them than for normal people, and we have no idea what the hoops are. It may or may not be feasible.

I am not going to argue this, because it's kind of a hot topic and I don't want to get into it. Suffice that I don't agree, and there is research to back that up, as well.

Uhhh if I say what book that's a spoiler too. So...other-cosmere-book spoiler?
-
It's mostly because they're Cognitive Shadows stuffed into a body. In the other instance of this that we've seen, most offspring are stillborn. I guess I should amend my question to "other than other Heralds" though.

I think it's a matter of power and capability rather than anything to do with his Command. A Shard is magnitudes of power higher than Nightblood and has multiple methods of keeping Nightblood away or just destroying him.

Yep, that was me. And I understand how hard it is sometimes. Always available if you need to rant or vent or share a story of "You won't believe what he/she just did".
-
Yeah, I knew what you were referring to, and it's definitely a possible interpretation. I just don't agree with that particular one. But let's not derail the thread

Both of the first two articles you linked are blogs, not articles, and possibly not peer reviewed. The third link seems to be behind a paywall or subscription wall, as it's just blank. In addition, while both of the first articles talk about how male and female brains are different (which no one is trying to disprove), I didn't see anything about even babies and small children preferring blocks over dolls or whatever. Actually, there are substantial studies that prove the opposite. http://www.powells.com/book/pink-brain-blue-brain-9780618393114?partnerid=31605 https://www.recode.net/2017/8/11/16127992/google-engineer-memo-research-science-women-biology-tech-james-damore The fact that in some tribal societies, breasts are not a form of sexual focus proves that it's a cultural, rather than biological construct. If it were hardwired in our brains, then all humans would have the same impulse. And, provably, we don't. (Also, would really appreciate some punctuation and capitalization in your posts if possible. Having a hard time grasping your meaning, otherwise. Apologies if I've misunderstood anything).

Someone should ask if the Heralds have any living descendents. Does anyone want my list of "possible Vedel/Chana candidates"? There's maybe 5 people on the list after combing through the first two books.

The half-shards are regular metal shields with Augmenter fabrials affixed to them to make them a lot stronger than they would normally be. Since they're in essence, invested, at that point, they can resist the Shardblade blow for a little bit.

I think the reason Kaladin's brands don't stay covered is because his perception of himself is scarred. It didn't affect the cover-everything illusion because that wasn't himself. The illusion to hide the brands was himself-minus-brands. So just like the tattoos, it didn't stick.

All the Radiant spren are mixes of Honor and Cultivation. Some are more Culti, some are more Honor. They miiiiiiiiight have a tiny bit of Odium in them.

Basically, in many cases, a soul needs to be cracked or broken. That leaves room for investiture to seep in and bond with the soul to let the person be able to use it. That's what Snapping is, at least, although the cracks don't need to be particularly big any more thanks to Sazed. There are systems where this isn't required (like Nalthis and Breath), and in some cases in each system, sometimes it's not necessary at all (see Shallan). But yes, in general, having a traumatic experience, including near-death, definitely makes it more likely that you'll end up being able to use investiture. Or at least, that's how we understand it at this time

With the release of Oathbringer and White Sand Vol 2, and the new info from SoS and BoM, I thought it'd be fun to revive this thread. We even got to see marketplaces in Shadesmar! That was so fun! What new things can we think of to sell at Shadesmar(t), the greatest shopping center in the Cosmere? I'll start us off. The Bead Fairy -- bring your own beads to be manifested by on site Lightweavers and Elsecallers! Mandra rides!* *Signed liability release forms stating that Shadesmar(t) will not be liable for falls from disappeared mandras are required. Have You Seen Me? Match your Shardblade to an existing dead-eye.

But see, that would rely on Jasnah being willing to tell someone what happened to her. We know that a lot of times, victims blame themselves or think that no one would believe them. If it was someone important or someone their parents are friends with, it makes it even harder. Navani says something about this...one sec while I get the quote.
