Zahel and Shardblades (Spoilers)
PorridgeBrick replied to Fifth of Daybreak's topic in Stormlight Archive
He probably senses life and spren by sensing their Investiture. It doesn't take much to realize that Shardblades are Invested, so he may not have thought beyond that.- 2 replies

Certainly for physical decapitation. I'm curious if the same applies to Shardblade decapitation.

I do hope that they chose their Shards. It's been bothering me a little that the assignment of Shards happens to fall along gender stereotypes so far. If it was random, then it would basically bias on Brandon's part behind it. If they chose them themselves, however, then I'm fine with it, as then it's an in-world cultural bias instead of an outworld one.

Shoot, reread the section. I was the one who misinterpreted. Sorry.

Adolin to be featured in new wine advertisement!

Um, after Shallan's conversation with Adolin, I don't think this is a good thing. -
Something I Noticed in the Surges Chart
PorridgeBrick replied to cris34b's topic in Stormlight Archive
As a fervent Shalladin shipper, I take offense to the idea that their interaction boils down to "couldn't stand each other". Something to add to your thoughts here: Shallash is Jezrien's daughter (as said in both WoB and the WoK epigraph). Perhaps the diagonal lines demonstrate the relationships between the Heralds, too? -
I think you're on the right track here. The first Surge going clockwise seems to be the first Surge each order learns. The same appears to hold for Jasnah, since she's totally competent with Soulcasting but doesn't really know what she's doing with Elsecalling. It might not be totally Primary, as Kaladin has plenty of an affinity towards Gravitation once he learns it, but certainly each order has much greater difficulty learning the second surge in the first place.

Just a minor clarification here– even before he was revived, Szeth's soul wasn't fully gone, just mostly. If it had gone all the way up his spine to his brain, he'd have lost his soul, and that couldn't be regenerated. I think you meant that, but I'm not quite sure.

Here you go.

Some notes: Additional Powers Column: personally, I'd give the Skybreakers a talent for finding past sin. Also, Truthwatchers seem to be able to see the future, and Elsecallers might, just maybe, have supernatural geolocation. I'd add all of those, though with question marks. Spren: We know the cometspren Eshonai sees is probably a Nahel spren, though not which order. I'd add it to both the Skybreaker's and Willshaper's for now, with question marks on both. Also, when asked about the original bondsmith spren, Brandon drew a picture of the sun. Lesser Spren: Judging by when Shallan drew Pattern, I'd add creationspren to the Lightweaver row. Fabrials: Painrials use rubies too, as well as heating fabrials iirc. Stances: You missed Vinestance. Non-evil forms: Since there's apparently "hundreds" of forms, I seriously doubt there's any Herald -> form correlation. The evil forms, sure, but not the normal ones. Out of curiosity, what are you using to guess the associated nations? There doesn't seem to be any evidence that I can remember except on Alethela.

If he didn't have a soul, I think he'd be rather dead.

[Crackpot Theory] Source of the Word "Nahel"
PorridgeBrick replied to Confused's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think it's more that times of stress are more likely to push them into speaking their Oaths. Remember, Dalinar spoke the 1st and 2nd Ideals right in a row to the Stormfather. If each Oath required stress, something stressful would have had to happen in between, but nothing did. -
But Dominion doesn't require taking anything away from someone. All it requires is being in control. You can easily have that and never actually take something from someone.

But who would call him a Shard? Only Jasnah might have that level of knowledge, really, and she's atheist. Anyone smart enough to know what Tanavast is probably would know what happened to him too.

There's not really much in the natural world that is violet, however. So since much of the native Rosharan wildlife (like chasmfiends, as you said) has violet blood, it makes sense to name the violet spheres bloodmarks. The only other important violet thing is the violet moon, but you can't call them moonmarks since the other two moons are completely different colors. Matching up with the essence helps a lot too.
-
This isn't definite, but I'm pretty sure it's in the past, from one of the Radiants back then. I don't think someone now would say it.

Regrowth was able to heal Szeth from a Shardblade hit to the spine after falling for hundreds of feet. Feruchemical gold works under the same principles, so if TLR is fast enough to heal before it reaches the brain, he's completely fine. Hit him in the head, however, and even he's dead.

I like this theory a lot. It seems just like the sort of plot twist Sanderson would add. But now I've got another idea building off from this, and even more speculative. We know Sanderson's been acting very strange over Taln's identity, and in his interlude we see that quote about the "Gift and Words" not being his – in fact, never his. So what if the Heralds somehow switched Taln's position and powers to some poor innocent and then murdered him, so that he would fulfill the Oathpact for them? Completely baseless, but it's a fun thought. Either way, though, there's definitely something up with Taln and with the WoK prelude. I too find it very strange that Jezrien knows of Taln's death, but not whether or not Kalak is alive. And I agree that that epigraph is likely referring to the Heralds– there don't seem to be that many important groups of people out there.

Since I don't want to just waste my vote, Cog. I'm changing my vote to Swimim, since his inactivity means that even his innocence will be a small loss to us. I don't particularly think he's PK, but there's still a decent chance of it.

That is very interesting. For now, I'll vote for Meta. Perfectly ready to change that, however.

Harmony used his godly power and made him a reduced-power Mistborn on purpose. He probably didn't trust him with the full power. Shardhunt Spoilers
-
Spook was a reduced-strength Mistborn a la Kelsier and Vin, not a Lerasium-level one a la Elend. So with Elend dead, there are no Lerasium strength allomancers around, and the blood got diluted. Take into account, too, that the classes changed after Harmony – there's more mixing of bloodlines, so the power is being diluted over a larger population. As for seeing more Mistborn, well... The plot of the next trilogy begins with a allomantic SWAT team called in to deal with a Mistborn serial killer. And there will probably be more Lerasium eventually, so the bloodlines can get re-Invested again.

I have no doubt that Windrunners will be better in the air than the Skybreakers. Creating a vacuum in front, and a high pressure wave behind should make for absolutely insane speeds, especially when combined with gravity. They'll be running circles around bullets. But Skybreakers do have Division, which might close the gap a little, if not enough. Dividing the air in front of them can probably decrease air resistance to a degree.
