  1. I'm hopping on the Dustbringer bandwagon. The divine attributes are Brave and Obedient. While I do agree that he is very perceptive and intelligent, I think these attributes describe him to a T. Think about how much he obeys Dalinar in WoK, despite thinking that his father might be going insane or is wrong to enforce the Alethi Codes of War. And how brave he is in dueling at full disadvantage or defending his father against Szeth despite knowing he couldn't win. I also agree that the ramifications from murdering Sadeas will bring about his bond. The Diagram instructed to watch out for humans placed in situations of high stress. I suspect he has already caught the eye of a spren, and his coming challenges will reveal his bond.
  2. I don't think Axies could be a Radiant. The epigraphs from the songs of The Listeners seemed to indicate that the Nahel bond is something particular to humans, and not granted to Listeners. Even though it doesn't specifically say that Aimians are exempt from this bond as well, my feeling is that it implies only humans get the bond. I like your idea of Axies being of the equivalent Old Magic order as Elsecallers. I think there has been sufficient discussion that there are 10 different types of magical powers accessed in 3 different ways, and I believe there is WoB that says you could say there are either 3 or 30 magic systems on Roshar. So perhaps Aimian = Old Magic, Human = Surgebinding, and Listeners = Voidbinding and the reason being is their sDNA allows them to access Investiture through different methods. Kind of like on Scadrial: Regular human = Allomancy, Terris = Feruchemy. If Axies is of the equivalent group of Elsecallers, then the corresponding essence would be oil. What would the Listener form be... Oilform? Slickform? Fatform?
  3. I wonder if returning his Honorblade would help Taln overcome his insanity. Perhaps the blades always helped the Heralds deal with their torment in Damnation.
  4. Airsick lowlander. For me, this thing is not possible. But good luck!
  5. I just noticed this on my re-read and came to the forums to see if anyone had posted about it, so +1 to you @Chlehrma! While I agree that it seems a strange place for a Herald to end up, and I guess it could just be a red herring, the similarities between the description of this bridgeman and Taln are remarkable. Check em out side by side: My money is on this being a Herald, and Kalak sounds good by process of elimination.
  6. Take a look at the page in the Coppermind Wiki. Tons of good info here. http://coppermind.net/wiki/The_Stormlight_Archive
  7. I think that phrase from Hoid could also refer to Yolen. According to the best timeline we have, the events of Warbreaker aren't after the events of TWoK. Also, it is possible that all forms of magic in the cosmere existed in some form on Yolen prior to the shattering of Adonalsium. Edit: @bloodfalcon beat me to it! Edit2: just realized this wasn't in TWoR forum, sorry!
  8. I believe we know that every Shardworld has a way to worldhop, but not necessarily that it always involves Shadesmar.
  9. I'm on my phone so I don't have the exact quote, but I'm fairly certain that the blood in the prelude is violet, not purple. Might be splitting hairs, but knowing BS's attention to detail, this could be significant. I always suspected the violet blood would turn out to be Aimian. On topic: great theory! +1
  10. This theory just occurred to me, but it seems as though @Moogle beat me to it by about 4 days. +1 for you! Based on the discussion here, and my own thoughts, I think holding stormlight will definitely interfere with a Shardblade. If someone is holding stormlight, I think being struck with a Blade would go one of four ways: 1. Stormlight does nothing; Blade acts like normal 2. Stormlight nulls the spiritual effects of Blade and it cuts like it would an inanimate object. (I think this is pretty unlikely) 3. Stormlight strengthens the bodies connection to the Spiritual Realm, and prevents the Blade from severing the connection. It is likely that there is threshold for how much stormlight one needs to get this protection, and I'd guess that the more advanced the surgebinder, the less stormlight they would need. 4. Stormlight protects against the spiritual effects of a Blade, but a significant amount Stormlight is drained to achieve this. Personally, I am a fan of #3 being correct. One possible point in favor of this theory: Darkness uses a larking to drain Lift's stormlight before killing her. This could just be to make it easier to keep her in custody, but maybe not...
  11. Based on the Eshonai interlude we've seen, I think it's safe to say that Honorblades grant surgebinding abilities. So, the Heralds could be 100% Honor because they access their powers through talismans that were made by him. The KR access their abilities through nahel bonds with spren, which are some combination of Honor and Cultivation - I believe we have WOB on this somewhere.
  12. I don't really agree with this theory, but +1 for the Laputa/Myazaki connection
  13. This is a well hashed out theory, and it's really close to my thoughts. But I would make some small changes. Horizontal Groups:.Since Order 10 and Order 5 share their surges with orders that you have associated with spren purely of one shard, I would include them with those horizontal groups. Group 1 = 9, 10, 1 = honorspren Group 2 = 8, 2 = honorcultivation spren Group 3 = 7, 3 = cultivationhonorspren Group 4 = 6, 5, 4 = cultivation spren Vertical Groups: Like others have mentioned, we have WoB that Gravity is Spiritual. Notice that it's the surge that is labeled, not the order. So I think Horizontal Groups are for Orders/Spren and Vertical Groups are for Surges and their Realmatic nature. Group 1 = (unknown), Transportation, Transformation = Cognitive Group 2 = Surface Tension, Atmospheric Pressure, Illumination, Growth = Physical or a Cognitive/Spiritual mix, I'm undecided on this Group 3 = Gravity, Division, Friction = Spiritual I'm really hoping we'll be able to learn the final surge and the last two orders soon!
  14. Seeing him in close counsel with Gavilar makes me want to give him the benefit of the doubt. I suspect that he will be revealed to be generally okay, but not really a saint. Kinda like everyone else in this story - except Syl, she's an angel.
  15. Like several others here, I'm going to say "cool theory, but unlikely." There was a pretty lengthy discussion on what we know about Urithiru in a thread discussing whether or not it could be at the Shattered Plains. Moogle's post here will tell you a lot. We know that Urithiru is westward of Alethela/Alethkar and that there's some debate over whether or not you can walk there. I personally like the idea of it being in the Horneater Peaks, which is not THAT different from it being in the clouds. I assumed that they were using the Transportation surge and it was like how Jasnah soulcast without touching objects - a light beams down from the sky (I know I read this somewhere, but I can't find a quote...). Last bit to add: Whether Urithiru is floating in the sky, on top of a huge mountain, under the Reshi sea, or wherever, I think that there was a way to get there from each of the Dawncities. Most (all but one?) of the cities are still occupied, and the access point to Urithiru has probably long since been destroyed and/or forgotten. However, at the Shattered Plains, which I think was Natanatan's Dawncity, has been somewhat preserved in time. The city has crumbled, but perhaps the access point (oathgate?) was not destroyed. Jasnah and Shallan will find it, discover Urithiru, and convince everyone of the coming Everstorm.
  16. After reading these chapters, Syl is absolutely my favorite character. 42 days!
  17. It's certainly an interesting theory. To expand on the discussion, I think it's more likely that, if the Dawnsingers are spren, they would be responsible for the creation of Surgebinders (other than the Heralds) but not the Radiants. They were likely closely tied with Honor, and if they created the Radiants, I don't see how Honor could be surprised by it. I think it's more likely that the Cryptics and Honorspren got a bunch of others on board to form the Radiants with Nohadon, and they were lowly enough that Honor wasn't working directly with them and didn't see it coming. Side theory - what if the Dawnsingers are still around and are the "Circle" that Wyndle is talking about? I'm not sold on it as Ivory and Jasnah made it sound like the Cryptics and Honorspren are pulling the strings in Shadesmar. But it's the very first thing that popped into my head upon reading this theory.
  18. I like the second one as well. Although I agree with the third statement regardless Great theory! So how does Rock see Syl?
  19. I always assumed forgetting about his wife was the boon, to aid him in his grief. The way he thinks about it in his POV chapters just strikes me that way. I guess there isn't any really hard evidence for it though. I wonder when we will learn the secret and what implications it will have! Maybe Cultivation saw his potential and so gave him a 'curse' that will end up saving the people of Roshar?
  20. I like this theory a lot. I'm interested in what the distinction would be between Jezrien's standing and a Sliver. I always thought of a Sliver as holding a small amount of the Shard, but larger than a splinter. Do we have WOB stating it is the full shard but for a short time? TLR held it for quite some time, didn't he? If splinter<Sliver<Shard is true, would Jezrien as the Stormfather be somewhere between Shard and Sliver?
  21. They also perform the most socially acceptable form of predicting the future... http://m.imgur.com/5lCJG9A
  22. Ah you barely beat me to it, Bean. I was going to say the same thing. Maybe Endowment is some like grey-brown from all the colors mixing together. Or... what colors are the Tears of Edgli? I like the idea of Shards having a respective color, as it seems to work in Mistborn and numbers have such an important significance. However, I don't think there's much to stand on right now.
  23. Here's what I'm looking forward to: - Shallan's backstory. Revelations on her shardblade and hopefully more information about the Ghostbloods! - Kaladin vs. Szeth (round 1). I have a sneaking suspicion that this is going to be the first of a couple meetings between them, in which there is no clear winner. Maybe Szeth comes out a little bit more on top. - Some of the samples we have, particularly the Shallan chapter, show characters actually sharing information! I'm really hoping that Shallan overhears Elhokar mention his cryptics, moving him closer to gaining his surgebinding abilities. - I had not heard of this supposed Nalthis connection at the end. So now I am obviously drooling over that possibility. - Lastly really any and all information on the many things that we know so little about. In particular, Parshendi, Voidbringers, Recreance, and Heralds current whereabouts.
  24. WILD THEORY! Warning: I did not use spoiler tags as this thread has already mentioned things revealed in the WoR Prologue-Ch.2. Perhaps the spren cities correspond to the cities of the Silver Epoch (Kholinar, Karbranth, etc.) And there is an 11th city - Urithiru! Located in the Shadesmar equivalent of the Shattered Plains. When the spren shunned humans due to this unspecified betrayal - they destroyed Urithiru in Shadesmar, causing the shattering of the site in the Physical Realm.
  25. There's a quote somewhere in WoK (don't have cuz I'm on mobile) where Syl says that all spren are, essentially, the same being. For this reason, I doubt they would fight each other. HOWEVER, it has been speculated that Odium-corrupted spren are responsible for turning the Parshendi into Voidbringers. If this is true, then the Knights Radiant fighting Voidbringers would be the equivalent of spren fighting one another through beings of the Physical Realm. Interesting. I think the shard plate and blade are products of the nahel bond. So when humans without the bond take up someone else's blade, they feel an echo of that bond. To me, the high storms seems like a mechanism to distribute the Power of Honor (stormlight) and the Body of Cultivation (crem) throughout the Physical Realm of Roshar, and were set up by Tanavast and whoever holds the Cultivation Shard. If this is true, I doubt there is an equivalent in the Cognitive Realm.
