  1. Wat?!? Sum one thinks Met-al is su-... susp-........ suspiseeous? They think Met-al be bad? Met-al want to punch punee man! ....But Met-al refrain. Met-al steel want to heer from Grind. Tho Met-al do wonder if punee man mite be trying to cover for Grind. Not manee peeple that wud speek up for the silent peeple without reeson.
  2. You could always join Alv and abandon that cause. I don't promise anything other than chaos and lots of death. Whether that is yours or others is in the hands of said chaos. The only thing I stipulate is that it's all FUN!
  3. Hael, I spent most of this game constantly telling people that you were either a very good villager or had the foreknowledge of a Cultist (that's a compliment, btw ). I don't think that you could've done much different, it's more a matter of you feeling out how everyone plays and us figuring out how you play. Also, with regards to your hypothetical situation where I was playing some long con idea? I absolutely loved it! When you asked if I would do something like that, I literally said, "heck yes I would!"
  4. Wow, that was an amazing ending! Definitely up there as one of my favorites. Bravo you two! I can't wait to see the links to the Cultist Doc and the Secrets of Elantris. As Tulir said and from my brief stint there, they're pretty awesome. EDIT: Wilson, we were still playing the long game, on the off chance that the Cultist didn't know about the fireball extravagansa and whether or not Clanky or Dow was a Cultist. So we opted for defending our Warriors more so than anything else. We still figured that if there was one left out that they'd go after me or the Warriors.
  5. Met-al still lik punching plan the best. Met-al lik punching things. Met-al wud also lik to remind everee one that this is a kwik fix, so we need to bee kwik ourselves if we want to find the Clan. That y Met-al reely want to punch Grind. Met-al punch him so hard that eeven his children feel it!
  6. I wasn't implying that I was Claincy's lover; I was saving Claincy for Wilson (which I put in white text in my last post). I was in contact with her during the day and I don't think anyone here who was around for the AG doesn't know that she has a vendetta on him. I was just giving her a chance to fulfill that. Besides, Araris was someone that people were still suspicious of, so it was a win-win scenario. We take out someone that we weren't sure of and Wilson would've gotten her chance to repay Claincy for the AG. Can't say I'm disappointed in the results though. I'm sorry you died Araris, but you took a Cultist with you (Wilson will just have to wait for revenge some other time)! That means that either Luckat is the last or that there's still one more left. As such, I'll take suggestions on whom I should scan for the night!
  7. I've been meaning to get around to signing up for this one, but I keep putting it off because I'm so busy with other stuff! I'll try to be here though! The ground shook and rumbled. It was a consistent THUD-ing noise... and it was coming closer to the tracks. Suddenly, the back door to the caboose flew off its hinges and off into the distance. A huge, bulking shadow filled the doorway. In fact, if the shadowed figure flexed, it would likely crush the door frame. Not a single whisper could be heard as the figure stepped onto the train, causing the entire car to noticeably decline towards the back. Finally, the figure bowed and entered the caboose. "Hey everee one!" The figure shouted with a huge, vacant grin. "Met-al be bak!"
  8. I'll take my vote of Luckat, if that's the route people would rather go. It's a smart plan as is. I don't really have a lot of other suspicions other than Clanky and Luckat though. Claincy? Araris? I don't know who would be the most likely out of everyone left. >.< Whomever it is, they're hiding incredibly well!
  9. This sounds as if you started to take this personally, so I'd like to move it to a PM. You're wrong about quite a lot in there, but I don't think going into it in thread will be very productive or game-related.
  10. Mene stumbled into the court (no longer would he be subjected to that insulting capitalize 'E.' He has shown his worth to the faith). He wore the robes of a Shu-Korath Patriarch, granted to him for his selfless duty to the church. Even then, those could not cover the wounds from jumping out of a stained glass window. He entered to find that Domi had answered his prayers and that those trapped in Elantris had been restored and he smiled. During his time with them, he had found them far more than worthy of Domi's grace. The Queen though, new to their ranks, seemed very glib with her tongue.... Like all royalty, she seemed incapable of holding secrets. She needed to be reminded of her faith and so he approached the throne, broken and bleeding, but with all of the authority of the church that he could muster. He was an incarnation of the faith; selfless yet unbending in the face of "physical" authority. "I would risk it without question, your grace; if I thought it would do any good," he intoned as his voice carried throughout the room. "I, as a humble representative of the faith, am here to provide you counsel in this time of need. In doing so, I would suggest that you should be more careful about revealing what secrets you have learned through Domi's mercy. 'You have reason to fear, it is true; as all rulers do. But, to reveal your strengths, you also reveal your weaknesses. A wise ruler would know to be more circumvent. Thus is the will of our holy Domi and thus what I counsel to you." He turned to address the room as if mortal concepts, such as politics was beyond him. "But you, here, are the people of the church. You are the rock that we stand upon. It is you who decides the fate of our world. 'Not the clergy or the royalty or anyone else. 'I were to have faith in anything other than the indomitable Domi, it would be in you! 'It is with this faith in mind that I reveal to you what Domi spoke to me last night. You see, I am a man of the people and I followed your guidance and asked Merciful Domi about Liala." Mene paused for a moment before continuing. ".....I was presented with a terrible vision... 'I asked Domi to show me into the heart of Liala and it sent me into a chaotic spiral. I was sent into the center of a whirlwind, every side constantly pummeling me! I was thrown about, looking for Domi's light, but none was to be found. 'This was not the heart of a believer. This was a heart conflicted. On one side, I saw the mystic and cruel mysteries of the Jeskeri Cult! On the other, I saw the apathy and murderous attention of the Pan-Dereth." Mene bowed his head, as if in mourning. "My friends, my people. Liala is conflicted in a way that is far beyond mortal understanding. She is both an Odiv for Pan-Dereth and also a Cultist of the Jeskeri Mysteries. '....May Domi have mercy on her soul." EDIT: Our GMs deserve to know how much we appreciate all they've done for us. If they didn't keep things running smoothly, we wouldn't be here in the first place! As such, and Alv, that is hilarious and I upvoted it, but I think we should give our GMs credit where credit is due. At the very least, we should let them know that we appreciate all the hard work they've put in to running one of these games! *Besides, this was a really great write up!
  11. I'm taking recommendations for scans, as normal. Feel free to voice your most likely suspects and all that! My list right now includes Claincy, Hael, and Clanky. A good case could be made for Luckat as well. We really need to start putting pressure on some of these people that haven't spoken up much as well. We need to make them feel threatened enough to have to come out of the woodwork and try to convince us of their innocence. It's the only way that we'll have anything to go off of to determine who, out of those left, is a Cultist. So let's make them have to fool us via their words, rather than their silence.
  12. I honestly love all the games I've GMed. There's just something that is so satisfying about watching everyone else enjoying and struggling through a game you've created. I don't think I could pick a favorite or which one I enjoyed running the most out of those. They all had their own highlights. As far as everyone else's games, I did really enjoy LG3 and LG7. Blackwater Village was special, as that was the first game I got to play with everyone here (more on that below) and The Annealing of Luthadel had some of my favorite characters in it. Plus, I would've loved to have pulled off that final deception, where all of us Lesser Houses rised up and pulled down the Greater Houses before winning. I was so close too! QF5 (The Hunger Games) and MR3 (When Chalklings Attack) both deserve props too. I still haven't been able to read Rithmatist yet, but MR3 made me realize that I really, really did need to get around to it! Oh wow, where to start? There are a lot of differences between the two and that's to be expected. Each one has their own sets of strengths and weaknesses. The one thing that they both have in common though is that they're all fun! One of the things that can truly change the way the game is played that most people wouldn't think about is the forum itself that the game is being played on. For example: the private message system on the Cracked forum is rudimentary at best. You can only send a PM to one other person at a time and if the GM wants to be included in all the PMs, the players have to send a copy of every PM they send in the game to the GM. As such, speaking privately isn't as highly valued over there as it is here. It's still used, but not to the extent that we do. When I came over here, I was surprised and delighted by the PM system here! Just the ability to have group PMs changes a lot in how things develop, IMO. Another thing with the forums is that Cracked is far less regulated as far as language and topic choices go. When I've described the 17th to some of them on the Cracked forums, I always have to remember to remind them that if they do decide to try a game with us on the 17th, that the forum here is very much PG13! As such, the types of shenanigans that we've gotten up to over on the Cracked forum are much more... vulgar than over here. The focus of the forum changes things as well. Cracked is a comedy site that does list-based articles for entertainment and information. As such, a lot of the storylines over there tend to be much more over the top and comical. For example, one of our games was a bunch of American Wizarding schools, like out of Harry Potter. We've had a game that was a bunch of gods in a nightclub. Right now, we're doing a MLP Elimination game (sorry MLP fans, it's already started, so no you can't join). So not only are the settings... weirder, but those things influence the quality of the RP as well. Here on the 17th, we have a lot more serious and dramatic RPs; with compelling storylines and heartfelt drama. Over on Cracked, they're more likely to be psychedelic drug trips and slapstick humor. And that's just what the differences in the style of forum you're on changes! The different types of players also shifts the meta-game. A lot of the stuff that we do here would be considered cheating to them over on Cracked. You see, they don't break character if at all possible. They don't do much with actions or interacting with the setting and such within their RP, but they always talk as if they are their character. They'll still discuss game mechanics to a degree and all that kind of good stuff, but nothing like what we do here. They'd consider breaking character to be a form of meta-gaming, which they use as if it's a bad word. To them, "meta-gaming" means using absolutely anything outside of the current game to find out who the Eliminators are; up to and including previous playing style. Using anything, like when someone logs on and other stuff like that is a no go too. The biggest problem with this, IMO, is that it still doesn't stop those types of things from being taken into account, it just makes them a faux pas to talk about. The people here at the 17th are a lot more logical in their thought processes and are much better at picking up clues. Long, detailed, and extensive arguments over on Cracked just don't happen. Our games on here are also less random. Some GMs over on Cracked confuse lack of information with difficulty. I feel like our games here are much better balanced 90% of the time. In the end, each forum has its own twists and quirks. I really do enjoy how the people on Cracked are capable of keeping everything in character, but I absolutely love our long discussions about game dynamics and logic. Cracked doesn't take itself too seriously, but if I want a really good, in depth game, I come to the 17th for it. There's likely plenty of other things that I've missed, but those are some of the major differences that I can think of off the top of my head! EDIT: Oh, another of the other things that we have here that they don't have is our own sub-forum. You have no idea how nice that can make things! We also have multiple game formats, which is refreshing in comparison to Cracked. We've been able to just do that much more with our games here and that is just the best. We don't mind shop-talk; that's part of what this is for! We want people to feel comfortable with asking us literally anything. If someone has a question about something they did in a past game and how people found them out because of it, then we'll do what we can to answer it. If you're unsure about what people mean by certain tactics (EX: the Wounded Gazelle Gambit), then we'll talk you through it. This is as much a resource for newer players to get some of their questions answered as it is a place to ask us weird, random questions. As Wilson said, threat levels are a personal and mutable concept. There's not real ranking that we all follow or expect everyone else to follow. Personally, I don't really buy into the whole threat level stuff at all; especially if it's coming from someone else. So you think someone is a threat, huh? Great. So they're threatening to you. That doesn't mean anything to me. As an example: some people might find you, Kas, a threat, but while I value your opinion and you have a great mind for figuring out what's going on, you're definitely not a threat to me. Karlin isn't someone that I trypically worry about, but to Jain, since they know each other outside of the game, he might be a much larger threat. It's all personal and so it's not a very good measuring stick. The other part of it is that every game is different and thus a player's threat level adjusts for that specific game. For example: Wilson becomes a much bigger threat if she winds up being an Eliminator. Gamma is a huge threat if there's the possibility of him being able to switch sides or be on both sides. If certain players get certain roles, they can use those roles to such a great advantage that their threat level increases. So if each game is different, then any attempt to record a player's threat level beyond a specific game just won't stack up very well. Now all that said, there is one area that will always make someone a threat. If a player is willing to talk and bring up ideas and discuss and just basically play the game, then they will always be a threat to the Eliminators. Why? Because the main way that you find the Eliminators is not through roles or through finding loopholes in the game. It's through talking things out and making people justify their actions. This is something everyone is capable of though, so no individual player is more of a threat than any other within this regard, IMO. EDIT: One other thing that I'd like to add about the whole threat levels thing: If someone does wind up considering you a threat, that's a compliment in these games! It means that they think that you're good enough to make things difficult for them if they're Eliminators or that they fear playing against you if you are the Eliminator. So yes, dying early in a game sucks, but you died because you were too good at this game to let you live! I can't think of a better compliment. Besides, there's always another game right around the corner and just like with me, that expectation will start working in your favor eventually!
  13. Please. I was suspecting Jain as the Gyorn before it was cool. I'm also of the mind that Jain was just throwing out names to confuse us. If there's a Cultists within that list, it's likely just an accident.
  14. So, in other words, you're showing off. While I love the Heidegger model, it fails to alleviate the instance of time. True, time within itself is in contention, but Dasein seems to be all about "the moment" and as such, fits your needs to explain why you can be both Kasimir and Wyrmhero at the same time. If we take into account a timeline though, you're trying to say that you were Dasein the entirety of your time here and that you were both Kas and Wyrm the entire time, as we all witnessed you "being" as well as yourself having to "be" within all of these situations. So unless you claim to be both Kasimir and Wyrmhero throughout the time of "being," you're presenting a falsehood. I don't want to turn this into a philosophical debate (as much fun as that would be, though I know I couldn't stand up to your understanding to begin with). It's an AMA after all and we want everyone to feel free to ask any and all questions!
  15. This is always a problem with scan reveals, that all conversation stops there. Yes, we have our Gyorn and while there is likely an Odiv out there (if Jain wound up making one), I don't think that should stop us from searching. Conversation and discussion are still the main ways that we find our targets. If Kas hadn't instigated the discussion about who to poison, Bort wouldn't have been in Elantris for me to scan! I wouldn't have picked Winter out if she hadn't given me reason to suspect her. As such, I'd like to remind everyone that this turn isn't over and we can still do some good. The Cultists are still out there and while they won't be up for this lynch, we can still put pressure on them. We can discuss future lynches and try to get them to defend themselves. This would also help in determining who I should scan this upcoming night (as, again, like above, I choose based on who seems suspicious due to the conversation). We won't get any information from this vote. The Cultists will vote for Jain just as much as anyone else will and since no one else is up for the vote since Jain is obviously guilty, we can't even look at when they voted for Jain. So let's use this time to draw everyone out. As far as the Odiv goes, we don't even know for sure that Jain made one. If conversions continue to happen, then we can start looking at the list of possible suspects. It's a much shorter list and we'll find them eventually, so the focus should be on the remaining Cultists, IMO. We don't have enough information to worry about an Odiv just yet. Myself, I'm mainly looking at Claincy and Araris. They've both been just active enough recently, but only enough to vote where it's pretty clear cut (to be fair to them, I haven't gone back over the thread recently, though I plan to). Hael is still either a very perceptive good player or has insider knowledge as an Eliminator. It's very hard to do any hard analysis, as most of the players that are still suspect haven't been all that active, but that's where my thoughts start.
  16. Well if I, myself, is an option, then I'm definitely picking that! But seriously, I couldn't choose. I have two of the best people I could ever think of working with me and it's been glorious. We all cover each other's weaknesses; thus allowing us to focus on our strengths. We are all on the same page about how to handle things 90% of the time, so I can feel confident that, if one of us is not around, any situation will be handled with the same care and professionalism and fairness that the rest of us would've shown to it. You can't put a price on that kind of peace of mind and trust. Picking a game to replay is as difficult as picking a favorite game, but I guess I'd have to pick Mid-Range 2. I, personally, wouldn't do anything different; I'd just want to replay it and hope that the rest of the players weren't as lucky as they were! Someone else recently asked me basically the same question and it basically comes down to three things*: Expectation, Luck, and Skill. The Expectation is part of the meta-game. See, for quite some time there, I didn't survive for very long. I'd be lucky to make it past the 2nd or 3rd Cycle. Me being attacked early was as predictable as clockwork. As you well know, for the Eliminators, predictability is a bit of a death sentence. People were so confident that I'd get attacked that it became common place for people to use their protection on me early as well; that way to have the best chance to block an Eliminator kill. That's basically where we are now in the meta-game. The Eliminators are worried that trying to attack me early on will just be blocked, so they don't try and they go after other targets. I fully expect this to change now though. Thus the nature of the meta-game. I've been very Lucky the last few games to have gotten roles that help me survive; like have Pewter or a Pendant or something similar (basically something that makes me harder to kill). Perhaps this is karma balancing out for all those early games where I died early, eh? And the least of the reasons is Skill. When I do get a role or item that makes me harder to kill, I know how to use it to help me survive. Last game, I made sure to let people know that I had Pewter so that if any of the Spiked heard about it, they would know that they'd have to waste more time to bring me down. Or I might try to draw a kill towards me, basically urging the Eliminators to go ahead and take a shot at me. The idea, though, is to use what I've got to help survive the early game. If I can make it past a few cycles and into the late game, then by then, the Eliminators have either bigger threats or I've solidified myself enough to have protection. I'm a big believer in the idea that no role, even a vanilla role is useless. You just have to figure out how to use it to its potential and that's what I try to do. *The sacrifices do help, but you're all going about them wrong. It's not quantity, but quality. You got to do them during a thunderstorm at midnight and on the lip of a volcano; preferably while you have NiN playing backwards. Use puppies and kittens and such instead of orphans; the cuter, the better. If you can find a cute baby endangered animal, they work the best. I love the Long Games. I enjoy the Mid-Ranges and the Quick Fixes as well, but I love the complexity and how much more devious you can be in a Long Game.
  17. MenE was a changed man after his time in Elantris. First and foremost, he no longer feared the Elantrians. The Shaod had taken their lives and cast upon them some terrible curses, but it hadn't taken their spirit. They were still people just trying to do the best they could with a horrible situation; much like everyone else right now. The other thing that had changed is that Merciful Domi has loosened the hold on his tongue. Perhaps it had something to do with getting taken by the Shaod or Domi's miraculous healing of him, but for the first time in his life, MenE could figure out how to get the words to come out of his head. It was a glorious feeling. Of course, Domi didn't just give out boons like that without reason. No, in this case, Domi needed MenE to be a conduit for Domi's grace and power. He could look deep into a person's heart and find out their true desires, no matter how they tried to hide it. And so Domi had tasked MenE with using this ability to find those that were unfaithful, the Gyorn and the Jesker Cultists. MenE was no longer tasked with cleaning the castle. Instead, he was adorned in the robes of his station as a Priest of Shu-Korath and he brought Domi's message of hope to everyone still locked in the castle. "Have faith," he would tell them. "Domi would not have us suffer needlessly. Ours is a holy task and as long as we stay strong in our faith, we will be successful." There were some that seemed to shy away from him though; as if they didn't want the holy light of Domi to shine upon them. Those were the ones that were obviously in the most need of his light. And so, MenE looked into the heart of Jain, to see what seemed to vex him so. What he found was the crushing darkness of Shu-Dereth. It was so powerful, that MenE staggered back from it. This wasn't just the heart of a convert. No, this was the heart of a true believer! A Gyorn! So I scanned Jain and sure enough, he's our Gyorn! I'll bet that he's already made his Odiv as well. In fact, right now, I'm pretty sure that it's Wilson. She started the votes for Karlin in the first place, perhaps as a chance to try to save Jain from being lynched? There is a few other pieces of evidence that this might be the case, but I'm not at liberty to share them at this moment. This is just my guess though and I'll be scanning Wilson again in the future to find out.
  18. As usual, I'll take suggestions for my scans. There's a good case to be made to have Wilson scanned again after all, especially after this and there are plenty of other people that are worthy scanning choices. So, if anyone wants to try to convince me to switch my scan to someone other than Jain, I'm all ears.
  19. I've got to agree with Sart on this. While I don't think we should squander the lead we have right now, if Karlin is a villager, then they're only doing the bare minimum to stay alive and they're not helping us find any of the Cultists or the Gyorn. Since we do have a bit of a head start on the Cultists thanks to the blocked kills and all, I'm more than willing to take a chance on a player who we don't know much more about other than the fact that they've been incredibly unhelpful. At least Jain has been willing to speak up and give us reason for suspecting him; whether or not we accept that reasoning isn't the point, just the fact that he's interacting. Granted, this is coming from me though and I would start killing Lurkers starting on Day 1. We win as a team, so if you're a Villager and Lurking, then you're hindering your team.
