Anniversary Game 2: Return of the Koloss
Metacognition replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yes and no. I won't do a whole new one each time, but I will (and have now) linked to the one from the Sign up thread. I'll be updating that one every time someone dies. Fair enough? -
Anniversary Game 2: Return of the Koloss
Metacognition replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Night 1: One Horse Open Slay -15 days earlier- Slart stalked through the sparse trees, tracking his prey; a deer. The day was clear and bright as the sun reflected off the snow. Slart had been patient. He’d been stalking this deer for the past few days and his rations were starting to run low. But a deer would not only give him plenty of meat, but he’d be able to sell whatever he wouldn’t use in town for a couple boxings and other supplies. He followed the tracks as they crested a small hill, creeping as silently as possible. When he reached the top, he peeked over to get an idea of his surroundings. He’d didn’t do more than glance before he stood up abruptly, all cares of hiding gone. The clearing below was a bloodbath. The snow was dyed red in a 3 meter radius from the middle. Pieces of fur, antler and hooves were scattered all about and intestines hung from low hanging branches. Something had gotten to his prey before he did and then, it seemed, they had made it explode. What type of beast had the power to do such a thing? Still as silent as ever, he made his way down to the edge of the carnage. He circled about it, looking for clues and signs. He stopped when he found a footprint in the snow. It was vaguely human shaped, but far larger. Either he had just found bigfoot or he had a pretty good idea at what had been here…. Koloss. He shivered slightly and it had nothing to do with the cold. Where there was one Koloss, there would be others. He followed the set of prints with his eyes off into the distance. If the monster had kept going in a straight line, then it was headed in the general direction of the Village…. The snow mixed with the ash on the ground until everything was coated in a dull gray. The sun set and the mists appeared, adding to the monotone coloring scheme. Even if the people of Tyrian Falls believed in the new Survivor belief that was circling around, going out at night would’ve been dangerous as is. Thus many stayed in their homes. Lippen sat in her rocking chair, her needles clacking together as she made another set of scarves and mittens to help keep people warm. Inor was putting the finishing touches on the stuffed remains of one of Sean Conrad’s pets. Inor didn’t know why he would want it stuffed, but the nobleman paid well and it gave Inor a chance to partake in his hobby. Kane visited his greenhouse as he tried to coax a little life into his plants with his soft and gentle voice. He had heard somewhere that flowers responded well to that. Edrab penned the next few pages of his book. Many stayed in their homes… but not all…. Clara Lepinceau had fallen on tough times. She’d been forced to leave the safety and sanctuary of Luthadel after the Lord Ruler’s untimely death. Of course, when one was immortal, the only kind of death that they could have would be an untimely one. While many would’ve claimed that Clara was no longer nobility, she just would not accept it. So she had moved away from the center of the universe and the chaos and settled here in Tyrian Falls. She had a mansion on the far side (along with a few other people of higher class and station) and while it was no Keep, like those that the Great Houses kept, it was good enough to convey to everyone that she was not part of the rabble. She was headed back to that very mansion when disaster struck. Due to the weather and Gidomara Grae’s expert procrastination, carriages were incapable of getting through the streets with all the snow. Thus her carriage had been converted into a sleigh and the poor workhorse had to tough its way through. She was passing through the center of town when they struck. All she heard was a loud thunk, followed by a more meaty squelch. Her coach coasted forward of it’s own volition for a second before it hit something solid, ramped over it and was sent airborne. She was thrown about in the cab and she cracked her head when she and the carriage crashed back to the ground, the carriage resting on its side. She passed out almost immediately. Alexander Venture had seen it all. It was too bad he wouldn’t be able to tell anyone. He had been huddled up under the overhang of one of the buildings bordering the square, trying to wrap himself in layers to keep warm. As the sleigh neared the center, two crossbow bolts had flown out of the darkness; one aimed at Clara’s unfortunate driver and another for the horse. Both were killed instantly. The sleigh had then hit and ramped the horse’s body before crashing back to the ground. Alexander had never been much of a brave man and he wasn’t about to start now. As a few cloaked figures entered the square, he took the opportunity to run. It was Riew that happened upon the grisly scene, while he was making a late night run. It was he who helped Clara from the carriage and got her to the inn to warm up. It was he who found the ugly omen written in blood in the snow. It just said: “Don’t bother running. You’re all going to die here.” And the Game begins! Best of luck to you all and let’s see if the Village is actually cursed! Remember, we start on a Night turn, you everyone has 24 hours to get in your actions. Roles are being sent out as you read this. If you do not receive a role PM, please let me know. Edit: All roles should be sent out now. Also, since I forgot, yes there is a Tineye, so PMs are open for use. Please remember to include me in any PMs you make! Current Player List -

Just one. The Lurcher effectively negates a single kill attempt at Night. So, to protect against more than one attack would take multiple Lurchers or Mistborns with Iron. -

1) The Spiked kill will be obvious from a Coinshot kill, but there won't be a difference between a Coinshot kill and a Mistborn who draws Steel. 2) The Lurcher can protect from the Spiked kill, a Coinshot kill, or a Mistborn who has Steel kill. While it should be obvious due to the fact that it can only be activated at night, it cannot protect from the lynch. 3) The only ability that can save someone from the lynch is the Thug's ability to survive an extra kill attempt. The lynch is considered a kill attempt in that regard. Edit: Ninja'd on my own rules. -

- You're correct. Any Seeker looking at a Smoker with their Coppercloud on (or the Smoker's target) will get something along the lines of "Undetected" or "Undefined" as their result. They'll be able to tell that the person is under the effect of a Coppercloud, but that's about it. Any Smokers burn by default. They have to send in as an action each Night if they want to turn their cloud off. If they do not send in an action, they only wind up affecting themselves though. - Can there? Sure. There can be duplicates of any of the roles. Should you count on it? Definitely not. Ask people that played about my QF and whether or not trying to guess what I'll do for role distribution is a good idea. - Try to win? We're getting close! Only a few more hours to go! I hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas, because in less than 12hrs, it's about to be a bloody one! -

I think you were the one to ask me about the first one in the last AG, Kas! I would like to be included in all PMs. This way, I can be sure that there are no infractions and I can handle any issues that pop up before they have a chance to become larger issues. I guess I never really saw how reading the 'first red vote' thing helps much in the first place. When I'm tallying votes, I'll start at the beginning of a turn and just record votes as I go. So if you switched your vote, all it means to me is that I replace your previous vote with the new one. So no, you don't have to worry about going and switching your previous votes to green. I will say this though, you do have to retract your previous vote though. You can do this in the same post that you're creating the new vote though; you don't have to go back and find your previous votes. If you have one red vote and then you vote for someone else without retracting, I will take the first red vote. -

Correct. In the case of a tie, no one is lynched. Also, I didn't put it in because it's typically standard, but it takes a minimum of two votes for a lynch. -

The way I do voting, I also list everyone who did not vote as a "No Vote." Here's an example from the last AG: As such, the "change" that the Soother makes is that they move a person's vote to a No Vote; effectively negating the target's vote. The Rioter on the other hand, can move a vote from one person to another. Using the above example, a Rioter could switch Wilson's vote from Satarms to Herwynbe and then Herwynbe would've been lynched instead. Considering that, in doing so, they're effectively changing the outcome by two votes, the Rioter loses their own ability to vote and if they do vote, it will be negated to a No Vote. Hopefully that clarifies things? -

But I have an entire scene already playing out in my head where I'm making you shovel horse dung out of the stable in mind! You even get to slip and fall in true comedic nature, followed by some horrible punnery like, "I dung messed up." You wouldn't want to take that away from me now, would you? -

Hael, forwarning (and this goes for everyone), if you don't give me a character, I come up with one for you. So by all means, Haelbird, the chimney sweeper, don't give me a character. The results are in your hands. -

The snow and the ash from the nearby and aptly named Ashmount, Tyrian, fell together in a swirling mesh of black and white. It made it even more difficult to see anything at a distance. After only a 15 meters, everything just looked like static on a television screen. But the people of Tyrian Falls didn't need to be able to see to know what was out there. Every year, like the worst alarm clock in history, they knew that another band of Koloss was steadily trudging towards them. And they knew all about the Spiked hiding in their midst, attempting to sabotage their preparations. You'd think that they'd all just leave, but for some strange reason, it seemed that they couldn't; as if they were cursed by some evil, unseen hand. As the snow and ash fell and an impending sense of doom settled onto the shoulders of the fair people of Tyrian Falls, they all stopped whatever they were doing to stand and curse the sky together: "Leave us alone, Metacognition!" Guess what everyone? It's that time of the year again! Three cheers for our second year here on the illustrious 17th Shard and it's been a great year, if I do say so myself. Thank you all for being a part of it and for making these games as amazing as they've been. Our little sub-forum here wouldn't be the same without all of you. So you guys all know what's coming; it's time for our Anniversary Game! Unfortunately, the Admins didn't get back to us in time about the Anonymous Accounts at this point in time, so we're going to see if maybe this time, the village of Tyrian Falls can get a little redemption. If the Spiked wind up winning again, I'm officially calling this village cursed! But before we get to that, I'd like to give you maniacs some updates as to a few things we're changing for our next year here and also some things to look forward to too! First up, with as many people as we have playing anymore and how many awesome people who have stepped up to GM games for us, we're updating the schedule for how and when the games will begin. The new schedule is in effect as of now. So what is the new schedule and how does it differ from our last schedule? I'm glad you asked! Before, the way we staggered games looked something like this: -LG1, QF1 in the middle of LG1, MR1 after QF1 finishes and as LG1 ends. LG2 starts after LG1 ends and the cycle continues. I did a simple graphic for it (not to scale by any means) a long time back that I'll include here: But, with how the subforum has grown, this is what we'll be working with going forward: Instead of setting the MRs and QFs schedules to be based on the LGs, they operate independently. QF1 is followed by MR1, which is followed by QF2 and so on. On the other hand, the LGs would stagger. LG1 would start, run for 5 cycles (this is just a starting number and we will adjust it if that seems like it is too long or too short of a delay) and then LG2 would start and repeat ad infinitum. As I did above, I did a quick visual of what we're looking at: We feel that this will make it so that there's not as long of a wait before someone gets to run their game. Which means we could probably use some more QF GMs, so if anyone has any ideas, feel free to sign up! Due to how this schedule is set up, it means that we won't be able to avoid holidays as much, but I think that will be a minor problem. If you have any questions or comments on the new schedule, please feel free to contact either myself, Wilson, or Gamma! That's the major news. We're discussing on reformatting a few of the threads to use them more effectively and you guys should be on the look out for something we're calling the SEAcropolis in the near future too! I think you guys will like what we have in mind for the future. Now, onto our second Anniversary Game! I'll be posting all the rules and roles and stuff below. Sign ups will last until the evening Dec. 25th. That's right, my Christmas present to all of you is your roles and alignment! This also allows us to circumvent the worst of the holiday distractions as well and leaves us with only a small bump once New Years rolls around, so this is as accessible as we could make it. So without further adieu: AG2: The Return of the Koloss! Oh no! Koloss have begun advancing on your little town, Tyrian Falls! Since The Lord Ruler died, they seem to be acting with a mind of their own. Unfortunately for you, your town is a way point between Fadrex City and Luthadel. That means you have a stockpile of metals, but that's probably why they targeted you in the first place. On the other hand, you have a large collection of metals. You might be able to hold them off, but it seems like someone (or a conspiracy of someones) seems to be undermining your defenses. Somehow, before the Koloss arrive, you have to rid your town of these dissenters; those that are spiked. Until then, you won't be able to mount an effective defense for your town. If you fail, everyone dies, so you better not fail! Factions: Some people within the town have been hiding a few secrets; some of them are Mistings, so you have help in your battle versus the forces of Ruin. Although some of them may be spiked. Why can't anything be easy? Roles: We'll be starting on a Night round (sorry to whomever likely gets killed before they even really get a chance to play!) This is due to the fact that that was how it was before and I think it will give people a chance to establish some RP before the game actually starts (which always helps make the write ups better, IMO). Order of Actions for the Night will be: -Smoker -Seeker -Lurcher -Coinshot/Kills Days will be 48 hours long (ending roughly around 1 AM EST unless this schedule needs to change). Nights will be 24 hours long. No hints will be given in the write ups. Allegiance and Roles will be reveal upon death. That should be about everything! If I missed something that you would like clarified, please, let me know either via PM or here in thread and I'll do my best to answer any questions. Let the games begin and again, thank you all for another great year! Quick Links:

Quick Fix Game 11: Cultists in a Snowstorm
Metacognition replied to Mailliw73's topic in Sanderson Elimination
A shadow fell over the door to the outpost. There was a eerie sense of deja vu, as this was basically how it had all began for the shadow. He half expected that he would open the door and all of the dead that had piled up over that fateful week would be there, alive and well; ready to start the massacre over again. They weren't though. Merad, as he called himself in this form, scanned the room from where he stood in the doorway. Everything was still in its place; as if Meallin had just stepped out for a moment and would be back any second. At least, that was how it would look to anyone else's eyes. To Merad's, he could still see the walls plastered in blood, his blood, as they tried again and again to finish him off. He had spent hours under their ritualistic care, though it felt like months. It had been a long time since someone had tried to kill him with ritualistic magics. So long in fact that he couldn't remember the last time; and he had an exquisite memory. It wouldn't have worked anyways. His own magic was far stronger than anything the Jeskri Cult welded. As was evident in the fact that he was here, walking around, with a huge hole in his chest, still packed full of snow from where they had buried him. A quick glance at the fire pit and a roaring fire flashed to life. Merad approached the flames and the warmth. As he stood there with snow and ice melting off of him, he considered where he would go from here. He knew that Ratel was more than just an ordinary Cultist. That was obvious in the fact that he had taken his heart. He would need to get that back. It wouldn't do to have that kind of power just running loose in the world. Not only that, but he would be at a disadvantage until he did get it back. He wouldn't have a heartbeat until then and that could key people off to his otherworldly nature. The air around Merad shimmered and the ruined and malnourished body of the cannibal was replaced with a new whole and hale body. This new one was tall and fit; with long legs and strong muscles. It was a runner's body. "Merad" figured that he'd be doing quite a bit of running here soon; in an attempt to get back what was stolen from him. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Let the games begin, Alv! So even with all the problems that occurred this game, with things like people being busy and so very little organization wound up happening, I still think this game was a blast. As I've said before, we've had some great games in the past and to see them being brought back is a treat, IMO. Thanks so much to Maill for doing this! A begrudging congrats to the Cultists. But no really, you guys obviously kept us all guessing all the way up to the end. Heck, my last little gambit at the end, I wound up including two of you in that plan! I'll be keeping an eye on you in the future! Now, as always, if anyone would like to try your hand at running a game, please get a hold of Gamma, Wilson or myself. Not only will we get you added to the list, but I'm sure we'd be more than willing to help out in any way we can as well! You can also ask questions and get some hints and feedback from everyone over here in our Art of Game Creation thread as well. With all the games that we've run so far, we have plenty of experienced GMs that can help you refine any game you're thinking about! Mid-Range Game 9: The Steel Ministry
Metacognition replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I really do love games where the good guys and the bad guys are flipped around like this. Congrats to the Inquisitors for pulling off the win! It was getting a little touchy there for a bit. But the real MVP for this game would be Hael, IMO. Everyone really owes him a big thank you for stepping up and taking over for Gamma when Gamma was pulled away for RL stuff. So thank you, Hael. It is truly appreciated. Now, as always, if anyone would like to try your hand at running a game, please get a hold of Gamma, Wilson or myself. Long Game 14: To Shatter a Shard
Metacognition replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
It seems like that's going to be all the discussion we're going to get for this game, so it's well past time to close it up and archive it into our history. Since I already made said my thoughts on this game, I just copied them back down here. These are supposed to be closing posts; not a chance for me to get in the last word on stuff. This was a great sequel, IMO. I think that a lot of the kinks were worked out between this game and the original. I'm kind of glad I wasn't capable of playing this game, as Maill was an an awesome Survival and I wouldn't have it any other way. And while the Village won again this time, I don't really think it was due to a balancing issue. I think Joe did an amazing job of addressing that. I think that the Village just did a great job of figuring out who team Odium was! Now, as always, if anyone would like to try your hand at running a game, please get a hold of Gamma, Wilson or myself. Not only will we get you added to the list, but I'm sure we'd be more than willing to help out in any way we can as well! So it's about that time again. Another year of us all constantly trying to murder each other and another year of amazing games! Now it's time to round out the year with another Anniversary Game (AG) and this year, I'd like your help with it. Last year, I reran the very first game that we played here, as a testament to how far we've come. Ironically enough, it played out fairly similar to the first one yet! Now I know that not everyone was around to play either of these games, so the question is, would you like to have the opportunity? We could just rerun the original game again and make it kind of a traditional thing; kind of like our very own Super Bowl. You can rest assured that even with the limited scope and roles in that game, I'll figure out some way to keep everyone on their toes! Or.... we could do something completely different. We could come up with an entirely new game together and then run that game for our AG this year. The decision is up to you guys. If you have any ideas or suggestions for something that you've been wanting to see in a game, this would be the time for it. Even if we don't go this route, we can always use some of the ideas you guys come up with in other games or in future AG games! There is an idea out there that we will do, if we get permission from the Admins before the AG would need to go live. We need Admin approval because it would require the creation of some anonymous accounts on the forum. At the beginning of the game, each player would be given access to one of these accounts to use for the purposes of that game and that game only; thus allowing everyone to be anonymous and thus on equal footing. So if the Admins get back to us in time, you guys have that to look forward to. If they don't, well, that's where we build our own game! I also have the basic beginnings for a game that I mentioned in one of the Dead Docs, so if you'd like the idea, we can flesh it out as well. The basic idea of it is this: It's a Reckoner's game, with the Reckoners being the Village and the Epics being the Eliminators. The Epics all have a weakness that basically takes away their powers and makes them vulnerable in the books and we'd apply that here. An Epic can not be killed without the knowledge of that given Epic's weakness. Think of it like the game Clue. In a typical game of SE, you just have to guess who-did-it when voting. In this one, you've have to also specify what weapon they used ("I vote for Wilson, using the weakness Chocolate"). To help with this, there would be multiple scanning type roles; each that would find out different clues to finding an Epics weakness. For example, some might find an Epic's Name or a Reckoner's codename. Another might find out a piece of their target's history. Another might find out what their target's fears are. And so on and so forth. As I said, it's still in its beginnings, so if we wanted to do that, we'd have to work on it quickly! So that's our options, everyone! We can either rerun the first game again or we can come up with our own, new game; with the affidavit that if we get the green light from the Admins that we'll be working with the Anon Game. Let me know what you think and what you want to do and I'll do my best to make it happen! Thanks for another great year and here's to many more chaotic and bloody games in the future!

Quick Fix Game 11: Cultists in a Snowstorm

I should've stayed with my gut. I had Lopen and Alv pegged on day 1! >.< Well played, guys. I mean, we basically killed ourselves with the huge level of inactivity this game, but even without it, you guys did a great job of using it to your advantage. Hopefully this game will showcase how important it is to speak up and be active. Everyone going pretty much silent gave you all the perfect hiding place the entire game. Sorry to everyone I wound up not trusting; especially Elkanah and Creccio. Elkanah, your guesses just seemed a little too on the money for me to think that they were actual guesses, IMO. Turns out you were right and that means you'll be a force to watch out for for any Eliminators in future games, IMO! So you got your chance at my heart after all, Alv. Good for you. Just be aware, I'm coming to get it back now. You're forewarned. EDIT: So I take it there wasn't a doc for the Cultists?- 283 replies

Lopen. He can't be protected twice. Also, this means that someone I told the plan to was a Cultist; at least one.- 283 replies

Quick Fix Game 11: Cultists in a Snowstorm

Merad stood at the stove. He was making his own flavor of stew for everyone, considering that he planned to leave in the night. This outpost was getting a little too uncomfortable for him so he had crafted a sled out of fallen tree limbs and whenever he was on burial duty, he had cut off a couple of chunks of flesh for himself; enough to get him through the pass he hoped. He found it slightly ironic that his time here at the outpost started with stew and now it would end with stew as well. Of course, they'd never tasted anything like his stew. It would be the treat he left them with. He took a sip of the broth. It was just about time. "Soups on!" He called to the remaining survivors.- 283 replies

So this is really off topic (thus why I'm putting it here), but if anyone has Netflix, go check out this movie. It's just called Circle. I think the paralells in it in comparison to SE are amazing. See how many similarities you can find. Here's the trailer to give you an idea. Sorry people without Netfilx. It's the only place I've been able to find it so far. If I find somewhere else that it's available, I'll definitely let everyone know!

Quick Fix Game 11: Cultists in a Snowstorm
Metacognition replied to Mailliw73's topic in Sanderson Elimination
If there are 4 Cultists, then they already equal our numbers, as there are now 8 players left (your player list is off guys!). So that means that there are likely 3 or less of them and if we can get one, we're still in the running. Lopen said that he isn't the Soldier that protected him and that Soldier still hasn't come forward. As such, I think they're a Cultist. I would call for Lopen to be lynched, but I'm pretty sure that we'd find him protected. Everyone, look over the game for connections to Lopen! I'll be doing the same. Edit: we can't get this lynch wrong and we absolutely need everyone involved in this one if we're going to win.- 283 replies

Quick Fix Game 11: Cultists in a Snowstorm
Metacognition replied to Mailliw73's topic in Sanderson Elimination
We only have about a half hour left guys and a lot of people have yet to say anything at all. I don't think that basically any of my suspicions have changed at all. For myself, I'll probably be voting for either Venture or Jain. Venture due to him just doing the minimum to survive or Jain because so many people are suspicious of him and now, he really does seem to be "turtling up" as he suggested he might do if he were an eliminator. I would like to hear who everyone else is probably going to vote for or who you have voted for, if you already have. EDIT: Actually, the more I think about it, I think I'll vote for Lopen. I still haven't heard from the Soldier that protected him and that makes me think that it wasn't another Village Soldier. I'll warn you before anyone just follows me in my vote: If Lopen is the Soldier and he is a Village Soldier, we could be shooting ourselves in the foot. My thing is, I think we've already done that through inactivity, so I'm willing to take the chance.- 283 replies

Quick Fix Game 11: Cultists in a Snowstorm
Metacognition replied to Mailliw73's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Kind of curious why you think you're at the top of most people's lists. I revealed mine, but as far as I know, no one else has revealed theirs. Where are you getting this information? BB didn't actually vote for Creccio on the Cycle she was lynched. He did so in thread, but he didn't PM his vote evidently. I do think that it's suspicious, but it also seems like you just grabbed something out of my profiles and jumped on it, rather than having looked into it and that's not something that I'd endorse. My profile is colored by my perspective and I don't want everyone just mimicking it back to me! But you haven't yet in either case, even though it wouldn't have take you more than a minute to do so before passing out. Not blaming you though. I should've gone to bed, but I can't sleep. Just noticing an inconsistency in your supposed motivations. Doesn't defend you against everything else. So who do you actually suspect then? What have you thought about the game? Just defending yourself is no different than what Jain has been doing. So you're active and interested. That means you should have some ideas by now, right? EDIT: Couldn't sleep. I'll be on and off, but I'll try to be around until I finally do fall asleep.- 283 replies
