  1. Our representative has been decided. Don't know where you're getting the idea that it hasn't. Hael even checked in on their site already as our rep.
  2. It's Time to Crown Our Champion. Congrats Haelbarde! You'll be our first representative to these Mafia Championships! But you won't go unprepared. I hope that everyone will join me in helping arm you with the tools you'll need to combat these Enemies from outside the Cosmere. From myself, I bestow upon you my intuition for finding Eliminators for the duration of your battles. May it serve you well in finding friend from foe. From Wilson, she bestows to you a vial of her blood (of which I'd suggest returning afterwards, just in case). May it inspire you to be as bloodthirsty as you need to be and to take no survivors. If, some trouble should befall our Hero (RL issues, for example) before he steps into the ring, Wyrmhero and Lopen respectively will step up to the mantle. Beware the traps these OtherWorlders may set for you, Haelbarde; for they are as devious as Odium and as patient as Ruin. But you will have our support and we will be cheering for you from the sidelines. Three cheers for our Champion! May all of your opponents taste the sharpness of your blade! To Haelbarde!
  3. So an idea has been floated out there about the polling and we wanted to get everyone's thoughts on it. It's been suggested that we take the top 3 from this poll and reset up the poll with only them as our candidates. Then everyone only gets one vote. The idea here is to have a clear consensus of who our Champion should be. With everyone having the ability to vote for multiple people on this poll, this would limit the options as well as making it obvious who has the most support of our community as a whole. The person with the most votes out of the three would be our Champion and the person with the second most votes would be our back up, should our rep have something come up. So is this something everyone would like? If so, we'd need to do so very soon to give everyone a chance at casting their second vote, so speak up if you'd like to see this. My personal thoughts on it is that it's unnecessary, as I'm perfectly content with any and all of our possible candidates as is. I don't know if I even could just choose one person out of the top three! But if everyone else would like to do that, we can definitely do it. So, thoughts?
  4. Idk what Wyrm's going on about up there in his analysis. Considering that this game came down to what amounted to a lynch correctly or die situation, I'd say that this was a good example of a Resistance style of game; especially since it was the first one! Granted, I do agree that perhaps opening up the number of people on the missions might have helped, but then you couldn't really use that as the win con for the Eliminators as well. I wouldn't mind seeing how it would work where roughly half of the players go on a mission every other cycle or so and give the Eliminators a normal win con though. Either way, I think that this was a very interesting format and I'm hoping we'll see something like it again someday! Thanks, Wyrm! Now, as always, if anyone would like to try your hand at running a game, please get a hold of Gamma, Wilson, Alvron, or myself. Not only will we get you added to the list, but I'm sure we'd be more than willing to help out in any way we can as well! You can also ask questions and get some hints and feedback from everyone over here in our Art of Game Creation thread as well. With all the games that we've run so far, we have plenty of experienced GMs that can help you refine any game you're thinking about! Thanks again to everyone that played and we look forward to seeing you in future games!
  5. Gotta say, for a game based in Westeros, I was expecting a lot more blood. Congrats to the Night's Watch! Most of you may be criminals, but I'm sure, based on this showing, that the southern realms are feeling quite safe right about now! Unfortunately, it's well past time that we wind up locking this game. So Aman, thank you for running this and if you'd still like to have the write ups added in, please let one of us mods know and we can edit them in for you. Now, as always, if anyone would like to try your hand at running a game, please get a hold of Gamma, Wilson, Alvron, or myself. 6. Windrunner was not nominated and/or volunteered during the time period where we were doing such things. If we continue to add new people to the list as we are trying to decide, we'll never come to consensus. Along that note though, I've talked to Wilson and Alv and they do not feel comfortable maintaining the games and everything else we do here without the assurances that Gamma would be back (which we don't have) for as long as it would take for the Championship to run. As I said before, my ability to be our representative was all hinged on their acceptance as well and I put the order and function of our subforum here above and beyond getting the chance to play in their Championship games. As such, I've taken myself and Maill (due to him also being incapable of doing so) off of the poll. Best of luck to those that are left!
  7. Okay guys, the poll is live with everyone that has been nominated and hasn't said that they are not willing to do so. If I'm missing anyone, please let me know. You can vote for multiple people (please don't just vote for everyone though or I will have to switch that) and it doesn't show who voted for whom. The poll will be open until the 15th, so everyone has 5 days to decide. Who ever has the most votes by the end will be our nominee and the person with the second most votes will be their back up, should something come up. If you're on the list and you don't want to be one of our possible reps, please let me know and I'll get you taken off the list. I'll also be contacting those that are on the list but haven't checked in here yet to make sure that they're okay with being our nominee. Best of luck to everyone and remember, even if you're not picked this year, next year is still a good possibility!
  8. But it would make getting a read on a player that much more difficult. You wouldn't know who sent what message at any given point in time. Plus, you'd basically have the entirety of each site trying to analyze and go over everything (because how would you keep track of over a hundred communities to make sure that they don't). And it would be kind of a bad move to switch players halfway through, just when people started to get a read of one person. Just a few of the reasonable reasons why they're against it and I'd agree. Do remember that they're willing to work within a player's schedule (so if you haven't stepped up because of such, feel free! We will try to make sure they'll work around your schedule). Our Rep doesn't necessarily need to be available for the entirety of April through July. We could get them in the last qualifying game; which would make it so they just have to be available through July basically and I'm sure, just as we are willing to work with our GMs, that they'll try to accommodate everyone as much as possible. So while I totally understand what you mean about the commitment, I think that it works out better this way overall. After all, who would you crown Ultimate Champion then? The person who played the first game to get them to the final or the player who, through no previous effort, stepped up to play in the final? The forum as a whole? But doesn't that then defeat the idea of a singular Champion? Perhaps that would work if it was a longer tournament. One where there are multiple rounds. But since this is just a single qualifier game (and a wildcard) and then the finals, I don't think it's needed. Just my two cents; not that we have a say in the matter anyways. While I agree with their rules, it's not like we could change them even if we wanted to.
  9. They call that hydra-ing and it's against the rules for multiple reasons, but yes, that would be awesome. We just have too many great players! But I doubt this will be the only time that we do this. I'm sure that we'll likely be invited back next year since whomever we send will do an amazing job. We'll send someone else each time so that, eventually, everyone gets a chance.
  10. I hadn't weighed in yet because I wanted to make sure that we had a broad list of possible candidates. With so many people nominating me, I didn't want to shut down discussion of anyone else as a possible representative. I don't know if you guys really want me to be our rep. I mean, while I feel like I do pretty decent when I'm a villager, every time I've been an Eliminator, I've lost spectacularly. Knowing my luck, I'd wind up an Eliminator in the first game and blow it. I'm also not sure if I should. Not can't, but should. I'm in the process of apt. hunting as we speak and I need to move around August. If the games go long, I might be in the middle of a move about the same time that the final would start. Granted, we might not even make it to the final, or the times wouldn't overlap at all, or they might be willing to delay the final for me (They've done so in the past from what I've heard) and even if they did overlap, I'm sure I could still keep up. The question though is whether or not I should then, knowing that it's possible at all, not that I couldn't. There's also the matter of maintaining the games going here smoothly. While I'm confident that Wilson and Alv can handle it (and Gamma might be back soon too! yay!), I wouldn't want to leave them high and dry without making sure first. I think that it won't be a problem since, if Wilson was capable, I know that I'd be more than willing to step up so that she could play, but I won't speak for them. All of that said, I'll leave myself as a possible nominee and let you guys decide when we start the poll whether you'd still want me to be our Rep. Speaking of: Thus why Wonko probably shouldn't be our nominee. Just messing with you, Wonko! Based on what I've seen, these guys take their games seriously. Easily half of them typically don't even have a theme to their games; just, "Here's the possible roles. Sign up." I don't think they'd take kindly to a lot of RP. Then again, with the way that we tend to do it here, where the RP and the OOC discussion is separated, is probably the most acceptable form of it. My nominees would probably be (I love that we're putting their names in red; almost as if we're lynching them by nominating them ) Wilson, Alv, Gamma, Aonar, Kas, Maill, Joe, Wyrm, Aman, Hael, Hero, Lopen, Burnt, Wonko, or Elbereth. I know that's a lot of names and some of them have already said that they can't do it. But we just have so many great players here that I'd actually be willing to send any one of us here and expect them to do well. Those are just the people I'd pick out right now. We'll likely start the poll sometime this weekend so that everyone will have plenty of time to vote before we need to let them know our Champion. Ideally, we'd like to get them our Rep by the 15th-16th, so that they'll be able to figure out which game they should be in well in advance.
  11. Mafia Championships Hoid studied the gameboard set in front of him. It was an exact replica of the Cosmere as a whole and it glowed with tiny sparkling dots. Each one represented a possible Champion; for there was a challenge from beyond the Cosmere taking place. Luckily, this was an area where Hoid excelled. He was a master tactician and he knew that, once he’d made the choice, his Champion would be more than capable of handling anything that these outsiders threw at them. Through the gnashing of teeth and brain-melting puzzles, his Champion would endure. But first, he needed to choose…. ************************************* Hey everyone. We’ve got an announcement to make. We were contacted a while back by someone running what they are calling their Mafia Championship. They gather representatives from multiple different forums that play Mafia and those players then play in a tournament of Mafia games to determine who is the ultimate Mafia player. They are now into their third season of doing so and last year, they had around 70 different communities send a representative to their games. They even have the backing of the man who created Mafia (Dmitry Davidoff)! This year, they’re hoping to have up to around 130 different Mafia communities represented! And we’ll be able to kill them all! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!! There was just one thing missing. They obviously could not have a true Mafia Championship while we were not represented! That’s like deciding the greatest author ever and ignoring Sanderson! So it comes to this: we need to pick a representative to be our Champion in these games. Here’s the breakdown of what our Champion can expect: - There will be at most three games. The first is a qualifier game, where our Champion will play against other candidates. At the end of that game, the players will vote for two people who they think should move on to the final. There is also a wildcard game (should our Champion for some bizarre reason not be chosen to go the final) to round out the final. Then, of course, there is the final itself. Here's a link to the final game from last season. - The games will begin at the end of April and the final will likely take place around the end of July. Yes, this is a long time to be available for. We have it on good authority that they will do their best to accommodate everyone’s schedules, so that everyone will be able to play during a time that is convenient for them. - Our Champion should expect a very active game of Mafia. There is a minimum posting limit of at least 10 posts per day and there can easily be hundreds of posts made in a single day’s turn. Granted, most of these won’t be the essays that some people write here, but they should still expect quite a lot. - The format is something they call a Matrix12. What this is, is basically a table of multiple roles that could be added to the game. A column or row is then chosen at random and that determines which roles are in the game. They still used a lot less roles than we are typically used to in our games though, so this should be a cinch for us. Here’s a link to what they are thinking for this season. And I think that about covers it. If you’re interested in volunteering to be our Champion, please say so here. We’ll give it a couple of days for people to step forward and make nominations, then we’ll make a poll with the given representatives listed. At that point, everyone can vote for whom they think we should send as our Champion. A quick note: this is not about us trying to send our best player. What we really want is someone that truly represents the nature of our community. These games tend to give players from other sites a chance to interact together and many times, some players will come join games on other forums, so we want someone that represents our Gentlemanly Killers nature above and beyond just being good at the game. We’re all pretty exceptional at that part; to the point where we would have no problem sending any one of you to represent us on that issue. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. I’ve been looking over their site and I’ve read some of the previous games, so I have a pretty decent understanding of what we’ll be getting into. Also, feel free to follow the links to do some of your own research! In fact, here's one final link to some general information about this season's games! Now then, who wishes to be our Sword at the throats at of all the other Mafia forums out there? Let’s show them how it’s done!
  12. Because you just gave it a glowing recommendation in my book. Plus, I'm just an evil kind of guy like that.
  13. I think you're just playing the faction war Aman and since I'm not part of your gang, you'd rather I die than anyone else. I'm an Epic. I became one at the beginning of cycle 2, which is why I actually had an action to use on night 2 and not on night 1. Sart.
  14. You should at least share the results of said scan. Cause right now, it looks like you're pushing for your gang to win above finding the GAs.... Luckily, it doesn't change the fact that Dragon is basically cleared (since I doubt the GAs would know about Clanky's situation unless he talked about it with someone and even then, I find it unlikely), but if gangs are going to start going at each other's throats already, then we're opening a whole different can of worms. So what is it, people? Cause "a house divided will not stand." We should be finding the GAs before we go after each other....
  15. I have no problems being scanned again and no, I don't have an invisibility power. It would be good to get it out of the way, but after the GAs tried to kill/screw with the scans already (which at least means that they have that ability), we're definitely not going to want to open ourselves up to it again. As I said in a PM, I think Dragon is as good as cleared even without Clanky's results (though I would like to still hear them). For them to try to use it as some kind of WGG just doesn't make any sense. They'd lose Elk and Dragon would still get scanned! EDIT: If that's the case, then GM Question: can the Watchful Tail block a Banker scan? Does it only work on the first instance of someone being scanned or on all attempts in a given turn?
  16. I actually asked about this, because I dropped in points when I didn't make a post during night 2. I did donate a full point to Elb, to make sure that she got enough to scan me. There are other factors that you haven't accounted for, Aman. For example, switching locations count and such. You know, looking at it, part of the jump in points we got, it could be from "taking part in the lynching of a GA." We didn't kill Danosaur, but we did lynch him.
