  1. I agree with this. It was one game. Let's leave it mostly to that game and not have it roll over into other games too much. When those types of things do roll over into another game, they should be almost like little easter eggs IMO; If someone spots them, they should get a good chuckle out of it and be able to leave it at that. It shouldn't be something that's shoved down everyone's throats. For example: Malrick is evidently a descendant or at least related to my character from LG7. Not everyone would notice it (especially our new players*) and it doesn't affect game play. My character being a descendant doesn't change how players interact with me. If you like, Winter, you could always make it so Cleo now hears Devotion's voice in her head rather than Ruin's now. That would be a neat twist for her character story after all! But I think we should leave most of what happened in one game isolated to that game, but that's just my opinion. Also, could someone fix the downvote on one of Winter's posts? I accidentally hit it when scrolling down. >.< *Also, Welcome! I hope you have as much fun with these games as we've had with them! I'm sorry in advance for any of you whom I wind up killing or getting killed. I look forward to being stabbed in the back by you as well!
  2. Be careful what you ask for! Malrick was confounded by all of the "outsiders" who had somehow found their way into their isolated little village. "What was the Founders' point of secluding us all away if every ash-covered traveler could so easily find their way to us?" He'd mumble as he pretended to clean a glass. Even so, he couldn't complain too much. His great-great-great grandfather had supposedly been one of the Founders and, in his infinite wisdom, had carved out the alehouse that Malrick now ran out of the prime real estate that was Town Square (his ancestors were incredibly astute hagglers). After all, even back during the beginning, his great-great-great grandfather knew that the Founders needed a place to relax and enjoy themselves. Though they were relatively regarded as ancient, almost religious figures now, Malrick's ancestors knew them to be humans with human needs. So Malrick bit his tongue about the newcomers. They were (mostly) human and thus, they would have need of his services and they'd increase his coffers. He cleaned his glasses as best he could in a cavern that seemed to fight him every step of the way with its deposits. The added stress these "outsiders," whether they be Spiked or long forgotten villagers or travelers or just rumors thrown to the wind, they just added to the chaos. All that concerned him was maintaining his family's name. Let it not be said that Malrick A'Lees was the last of his name! So he smiled to every customer and made small talk with those too far into their drink. It was surprising what you could learn when people were twice past tipsy.... Every good town needs a good meeting place and since we have so many people that want to be either newcomers or don't have an occupation, Malrick will fill this hole! The biggest question I have (that I'm surprised no one has asked yet) is about the phases during the night turn. How do they work exactly? Let's say, for example, that someone protects themselves/others during their first turn. Does that carry on through the rest of their turns? Do the protection roles not only have to guess whom to protect, but also the phase that someone would attack in or does it follow through to additional phases? If someone says, "I'm protecting ____" as their first action, but an attack happens on said person during the third phase, does that protection count? If not, this seems like an incredible boon to the Spiked team, as they already have a 1/3 chance of avoiding any protection (though there seems like there could be quite a lot of it available). Plus, the Spiked have the added benefit of exploiting the twinborn system more until the village gains traction. They can use their powers far more effectively early, which could allow them to steamroll this game. Just something I noticed. If this has been accounted for, feel free to give me a P.A.F.O. Let the games begin! EDIT: Also, I put forth the motion that GMs should be allowed to decide the occupation of any player that doesn't give one! I also suggest that the GMs be as hilarious/evil as possible when deciding such roles for said players. I think that would not only be great fun for the GMs, but would throw an entire new dynamic on player relations!
  3. I've been meaning to get back here and address some of the comments made in the Docs (I'd do it, Wilson and I'd look Fabulous doing so, but not until I feel I can actually lay claim to your crown! In the mean time, I accept your offer to rule together!), but life and classes keep getting in the way. As such, I'm going to lock the thread (as I think we've all moved on to a degree) and just say that if anyone else wants to try to run a similar scenario, they really should check out the Docs. Joe did a great job of realizing where his game had flaws. Since most of them were late additions, I don't blame him for it. Planning out the balance in these games takes a lot of time and late additions can throw huge wrenches into the works. I'll say this much, this game is definitely one that I'd love to see remade, as the concept and the game play were top notch! With a few improvements, this is a scenario for the ages! Thank you Joe for running an amazing game! I really hope we get to see a 2.0 version. That would be an epic game! As always, if anyone would like to try your hand at running a game, please get a hold of Gamma, Wilson or myself. Not only will we get you added to the list, but I'm sure we'd be more than willing to help out in any way we can as well! You can also ask questions and get some hints and feedback from everyone over here in our Art of Game Creation thread as well. With all the games that we've run so far, we have plenty of experienced GMs that can help you refine any game you're thinking about! Thanks again to everyone that played and we look forward to seeing you in future games!
  4. I'd play it just because I can never get enough Discworld and now there will be no more stories of them. The currency system does likely need some work. There's a lot of ways to lose money and only some roles can gain money in any other fashion besides the posts, which means either the need for a lot more money in circulation or some way for roles that can't take money in some form or another to be able to make up for it. I like this idea though, so it's definitely something to try to balance. Officer of the Watch (Day/Night): This needs to have a mention of sturdy boots in there somewhere, whether it affects the game or not. Thief: 5 cycles might be excessive. Or maybe you can spend less than the given number of thieves and thus are given a chance for any thief that targets you for their action to fail. Fool: once this power is used, would the new Fool (after the shuffle) be able to use the power? Cause if not, then it becomes a vanilla role. Maybe they have a secondary power that can only be used after the shuffle? Possible additional role? Ook!: As the Librarian, you have access to knowledge... just all of it. If only you could get it to sit still long enough to sort it all out! During each night turn, the GM will give you a cryptic hint towards a player's role or alignment. These hints can be as obtuse as the GM feels like making them. Also, if anyone calls you a monkey, you have a vendetta against them. If they die before you do, you win a minor victory condition. I thought about just giving this player all of the information, but could only say "Ook!" but I thought that wouldn't be all that fun for whomever gets it. It would be hilarious though!
  5. Well I wouldn't say I was always on Odium's side. I was playing my own game until I realized how much more powerful the Shards were in comparison! Then I joined up to try to balance the odds! Needless to say, even that wasn't enough, but I really was a free agent of sorts. My goal was to survive by any means necessary and aimed to do that one way or the other! It just turned out that I like an underdog! To my fellow Shards, I'm sorry for the deception... Okay, I'm not, because it was fun, but I'm sorry for putting you into that position. Great write up, Joe and great game (I love the tags as well)! Even stacked as it was, this was still a lot of fun! I'll hold off on suggestions until I've gotten a chance to read through some of the threads, as I'm sure a few ideas are in there and I'd like to give credit for them where credit is due. Also, Congrats to the Villagers! Especially our newer players, who did such a great job in their first game! Snoopy was a stand out for me in how he managed and took control of things behind the scenes, but all of you were fantastic. Luckat, you, as always, showed incredible skill. That last plan of yours was the nail in the coffin. I couldn't think of a way around that to get the Shards to lynch anyone else. Jain was right, should've lynched/killed you sooner (only in these games is that a compliment)! I've definitely moved you up a few ranks in my "threat chart" because of it! And just an overall thank you and appreciation (because I know that I'm leaving some people out, but don't know who offhand) for everyone that played! This wouldn't have been as fun or as exciting without you!
  6. Cognition dropped his facade. Pretending to just be a Logicspren was exhausting anyways. Besides, he had an innumerable number of masks that he could wear in the future. He would vote and then disappear into the Cosmere; to hide again. He appeared as a quick, little, storm cloud; barely a blink of lightning within it before popping out of existence and running as far away as he could. But during the time he was physical, he spoke only one word: "Jain." Whether this was the end, he didn't know, but he hid anyways. Not only out of fear (that was long past him), but out of long years spent understanding the nuances of what it actually took to survive. No matter the climate, no matter the situation, he would survive. And so he ran this time, knowing that the Worldhoppers would call for blood. He just hoped that their bloodlust was at an end!
  7. I haven't had time to double check Luckat's numbers (or much for anything really), but I'm willing to trust them for now, so Alv, you're off the hook. That does leave me at more of a loss of who to vote for though, as most of the people I thought were suspicious were all people not on Luckat's list! I hope you didn't miss anything, Luckat; unless you're trying to mislead us with that list!
  8. Thanks Alv, I've been trying to hold back that information so that Rayse would lose a few turns trying to take me out and now it's out in the open. In fact, other than the Shards, I believe you're the only other person who knows about my hidden Shard, so maybe that's why I haven't been hit yet! Plus, you've been pushing for a lot of information behind the scenes and you're one of the few left that hasn't been cleared.
  9. I can't wait to dig into the behind the scenes stuff that I wasn't privy to, but I want to congratulate our Nightmares for a game well played! While putting up the idea of a lack of a kill being the inactives wound up to us figuring out Maill, that was a stroke of genius as well. That's exactly what I likely would've done within your circumstance. I think that the only thing that kept you from winning this (yes, even the restrictions of rooms early on. Personally, I think those were very befitting and with the added addendum, you guys could've worked it to your advantage!) was the fact that you guys didn't have a doc to communicate in. IMO, it was Kas coming out as he had that hurt you guys the most. This game really showed off the ability a "Tineye" style role can have (After this and LG7, I think we can say that this isn't a role that can be ignored)! It's not always about codes and secrets, but also in the spreading of knowledge. Well done, Kas. And now, I delve into the depths of everything I missed. Even having not yet read the books when I signed up, Hero, this was an amazing game and I truly enjoyed the world. I hope someone else builds off of your example, as this has a lot of potential!
  10. I will vote for Ron Lav. I will move to the Theater.
  11. -I Will vote for Liam. I will move to the Dining Hall.
  12. I vote for Roger De Bree/Alex Wunkel. I will be moving to the Lounge.
  13. I'm going to vote for Roger De Bree/Alex Wunkel. I will be moving to the Theater.
  14. As I believe everyone (including the Champs that are left) by this point know, I was appointed by the Shards to feel out everyone (hit me, I dare you! ). While I won't name names, I don't think we have two Lifeless Operators on the same team. With the additional protection that certain Shards can provide, it just seems like overkill. As such, I'm sorry Peng, but I think you're a Champ. Either you're the OC's LO and were protecting yourself, or you were protected by an unfriendly LO since you were the only one putting yourself out there to try to get me lynched early. If I'm wrong, then I think you were set up and I'm sorry, but this is the best lead I know at this point.
  15. I actually live in EST. Problem is, I'm a night owl, so the best time for me to do write ups is after everyone else goes to sleep. According to this, you really need someone who lives in China or Japan to run a game! That way, they're off enough for your schedule and yet will likely have the free time to do write ups around then as well!
  16. I was meaning to get around to reading at least the first book beforehand, but couldn't find a copy in time, so Melvin (He prefers to be called Malphas, the Destroyer though) joins. He's a teenager with a gothic complexion and is a kleptomaniac. He's constantly trying to pocket small things from around the house. He really thinks he steals these things, even as his hands pass right through them. The reason they reappear must be because his nemesis, Raguel, keeps putting them back!
  17. My apologies for being so absent recently. My weekend was consumed with studying and Valentines' Day, so I haven't been on to do much more than keep up. I'll try to do better going forward now that I've got some time before me next test! I'll abstain from voting this turn, but expect me to be back in full swing next cycle!
  18. Guys, I'm speaking as a Mod here. Remember to be respectful, as per the rules of our Etiquette Doc. Remember that this is a game where hindsight is 20/20 and that everyone is using their knowledge to the best of their ability. Please don't ridicule anyone for having a different opinion than your own. It's one thing to poke fun at each other. It's another to call a person's judgement into question. We (the Mods) are all for jokes and fun, but don't do it at another player's expense unless you already know that it's okay to do so.
  19. Blue text was never meant to be used as Out Of Character speech. It was meant for Out Of Game speech (like wishing Peng a Happy Birthday! ). At some point in time, everyone started using it to distinguish between their RP and their game discussions, but it wasn't necessary. Even if you go back and look at the General Rules, you can see this is the case. Besides, 90% of these games recently (I'm as much to blame right now as anyone) is not "In Character." If people did more of their discussion and planning and such within their RP, then sure, using blue text for the purposes of non-conventional game discussion could be worthwhile. Instead, almost everything most people write is in blue anymore! If anything, we should have a color to indicate RP at this point, as it would make it a lot easier on people who have issues with the color editor, like yourself, Jain!
  20. Well, you're right that I can't vote for you (forgot about that), that definitely doesn't clear you. All that it means is that Devotion (at this point, you've said too much for it to be anyone other than Winter. You probably shouldn't be so free with information!) confirmed themselves to you by telling you ahead of time that they were going to use their ability on you. Whether or not they had any reason to trust you or if they picked you out randomly has yet to be seen. Either way, since I can't vote for Snoopy, I'll go back to Sarc.
  21. Looks like Winter is right, there's no stopping this lynch, even if I wanted to (I don't). Snoopy, that is a very bold statement. The only people who can do that are Team Rayse and Shards. Since you've basically outed Winter in one regard or the other, perhaps you'd like to clarify?
  22. Feel free to PM me with any changes you'd like to make to the OP and I'd be more than willing to help! Also, I'm sure Wilson or Gamma could do so as well, so if it would make it easier on people, I'm sure we can get that taken care of one way or another!
  23. My apologies if you thought I was being short with you, Sarc. It's just that I've had almost this exact reasoning leveled at me before as a reason for why I should die. Funnily enough, the person turned out to be an Eliminator, so while similar reasoning doesn't mean that you are too, I'm content to find out!
