  1. Heheheh. Bran San was in San Fran with the Sander Fans. LOLOL
  2. I knew something awful was going to happen but lil old optimistic me was thinking, okay, this will be the moment it all turns around. Elhokar finally gets to be the hero he wanted to be. Aaaand then Moash. He’s worse than Amaram, and Sadeas. Worse than young Dalinar to me right now. And we know Brandon only put his chapters in part two just to show how he got here fighting with the Voibringers just to wreck Kaladin’s day. Ughhhhh.
  3. Oh my storms.... I just finished part three. I... ugh. I need a minute. ... Thats where this was all going, Sanderson? All that work with amazing characters to have them kill each other? And Elhokar?? He was about to swear the Ideals!! Storm you, Moash. I don’t want to see a redemption arc anymore. I hope you go Odious so well, and then Odium himself tosses you aside like a rag doll, then you limp back to Kaladin, and get a spear in the eye. That’s what I want. *Sigh* /rantover I don’t think I’ve been that involved in this book—any book—like the last half of Part Three. Dalinar’s flashbacks with the Rift were fittingly, and unexpectedly, more painful than I thought, and his remembering at the worst time is just storming unfortunate. Shallan’s arc finally making some positive headway—thanks Hoid! He brought back a lot of respect for me after his fight in Secret History. I hope all that Shallan-growing-up-ness wasn’t wasted by whatever comes next. Totally love that Adolin likes Shallan as Veil, now that they’re all mixed together. Kaladin...oh you poor thing. That will have ruined you. I just don’t see how anything will move forward now, but I’m sure it will be amazing. Other things: -Well, hello, Vivenna, you’ve sure grown up! Is it wrong that I ship her with Kaladin instead of Vasher? Speaking of which, what are the odds of her actually getting a Nahel bond? Could be interesting... -Wonder what happened to Hoid in the fray... -Storms. I’m gonna sleep and cry for a while. RIP Elhokar, and Storm you Brandon for making him worth caring about right before you wrenched him away!
  4. Those seem to be the Ideals, yes. It would make an awesome tattoo.
  5. I'll give it a look when I finish the book and need something to fill my soul.
  6. My apologies, I only skimmed it because I was wary of spoilers. Either way, if Bavadin is counting many worlds among her domain, and time has passed, the waters she refers to don't have to be about Taldain. @quadbox
  7. I stopped reading for about two hours when I came to these glyphs. I honestly didn't expect we'd get something like this. ...We forgot vowels. *facepalm* This will make it a lot easier now that we know half of the screw you lines are actually vowels. I wonder if now the Radiant Order Glyphs are decipherable.
  8. It also says that she considers many worlds among her realm, and White Sand was about 1000 years previous to these letters at least. Did you see Weiry's thread saying Obrodai might have been First of the Sun? Some of that stuff makes a lot of sense and deserves further thought.
  9. Should I wait to finish the book to listen to this, or am I fine having read all of Part Two and about half of Part 3?
  10. One of my favourite chapters in anything.
  11. So this is perfect because I've only got up to the end of Part 2 and the book is unavailable to me until possibly tomorrow. But storms, Part 2 is full of stuff! In no particular order: Jasnah is a savage. Doesn't matter against whom, Kaladin, Amaram, Shallan, she owns. I love being in her head. I wonder what she's thinking about Renarin, looking forward to learning more. Finally we make some headway with the other leaders. DIDN'T EXPECT TO SEE MY GIRL LIFT SO SOON HEY PRINCESS And oh my GOSH the exposition about the Oathpact by the Stormfather. So nice to have the theories filled in after all this time. I totally wasn't expecting that for a while. Now if only we learned about the Recreance... Jasnah knows something, and so does Taravangian (as evidenced in WoR). Disappointed Hoid hasn't shown up yet. SO NICE TO HEAR FROM HARMONY. How ya doin? Moash's arc is going places I didn't expect. It will be interesting to see him meet up with Kaladin if and when they ever make it to Kholinar. ROCK'S FAMILY dear lord I CRIED. They're so sweet but his daughter doesn't remember him Nothing could be sadder. In other news, Rock is the most valuable bridgeman on the team. He's the only thing holding Bridge Four together and he is totally underappreciated. Feels all around in those Bridge Four chapters. Excited about them finally finding information in those gems, looking forward to hearing about the Radiants of Old. Dalinar's flashbacks seem...lacking to me. We skip over so much stuff, but I suppose it's necessary because there are more things to learn still. Upsetting chapter when Evi came to visit him at the war camp. He doesn't deserve someone who tries so hard and she deserves better. I wonder what she'd think of the Dalinar today... The Glyph translation guide is storming amazing!! The LETTERS!! EDIT HOW COULD I FORGET ODIUM My goodness, he reminds me of Odin. I find myself liking him. Lots of cool stuff in there, and Storms Dalinar, you almost pulled a Vin and released him. I think that's all I have so far, all the big stuff anyway.
  12. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. It makes sense to have it as three Shards, and the wording and everything. I'll go ahead and edit OP.
  13. Autonomy is an interesting idea, but wasn't Hoid perpetuating his grudge against her as well? Seems weird that he's ask her for help.
  14. That's right, friends. Letters. As in more than one. Three in fact. Part Two's epigraphs contain three response letters to Hoid. I will document them here for posterity. Enjoy, and join in the discussion! Please keep this spoiler free except for discussion on the Part 2 epigraphs. Letter #1: Unknown Shard? Likely Endowment. Dearest Cephandrius, I received your communication, of course. (Ch 33) I noticed its arrival immediately, just as I noticed your many intrusions into my lands. (Ch 34) You think yourself so clever, but my eyes are not those of some petty noble, to be clouded by a false nose and some dirt on the cheeks. (Ch 35) You mustn't worry yourself about Rayse. It is a pity about Aona and Skai, but they were foolish--violating our pact from the very beginning. (Ch 37) Your skills are admirable, but you are merely a man. You had your chance to be more, and refused it. (Ch 38) No good can come of two Shards settling in one location. It was agreed that we would not interfere with one another, and it disappoints me that so few of the Shards have kept to this original agreement. (Ch 39) As for Uli Da, it was obvious from the outset that she was going to be a problem. Good riddance. (Ch 40) Regardless, this is not your concern. You turned your back on divinity. If Rayse becomes an issue, he will be dealt with. And so will you. (Ch 41) Letter #2: Ire? 17th Shard? Autonomy, probably. Cephandrius, bearer of the First Gem. You must know better than to approach us by relying upon presumption of past relationship. (Ch 42) You have spoken to one who cannot respond. We, instead, will take your communication to us--though we know not how you located us upon this world. (Ch 43) We are indeed intrigued, for we thought it well hidden. Insignificant among our many realms. (Ch 44) As the waves of the sea must continue to surge, so must our will continue resolute. Alone. (Ch 45) Did you expect anything else from us? We need not suffer the interference of another. Rayse is contained, and we care not for his prison. (Ch 46) Indeed, we admire his initiative. Perhaps if you had approached the correct one of us with your plea, it would have found favourable audience. (Ch 47) But we stand in the sea, pleased with our domains. Leave us alone. (Ch 48) We also instruct that you should not return to Obrodai. We have claimed that world, and a new avatar of our being is beginning to manifest there. She is young, yet, and--as a precaution--she has been instilled with an intense dislike of you. (Ch 50) This is all we will say at this time. If you wish more, seek these waters in person and overcome the tests we have created. Only in this will you earn our respect. (Ch 51) Letter #3: Harmony Friend. Your letter to me is most intriguing, even revelatory. (Ch 53) I would have thought, before attaining my current station, that a deity could not be surprised. Obviously, this is not true. I can be surprised. I can perhaps even be naive, I think. (Ch 54) I am the least equipped, of all, to aid you in this endeavor. I am finding that the powers I hold are in such conflict that the most simple of actions can be difficult. (Ch 55) I am also made uncertain by your subterfuge. Why have you not made yourself known before this? How is it you can hide? Who are you, truly, and how do you know so much about Adonalsium? (Ch 56) If you would speak to me further, I request open honesty. Return to my lands, approach my servants, and I will see what I can do for your quest. Okay guys, I've been waiting for you to be able to talk about these, and I'm sure the other readers who've managed to snag an early copy are dying to as well. Some thoughts: The first letter is probably from a Shard. Maybe one that we don't know yet. They noticed Hoid immediately, and speak of the Shards as kin. They also look down on Hoid for not taking the opportunity to grab a Shard. These make it evident that it is probably a Shard speaking. Given that Hoid probably mentioned Aona and Skai as Shards murdered by Odium, it may be that Uli Da is the name of another Shard Odium killed. Ambition perhaps? Or one we don't yet know? The Shards originally agreed to stay separate. That's hilarious. Maybe lends some credence to the 17th Shards mandate of keeping them separate. Whoever is speaking seems sure that they can take on Odium and Hoid. Noted. Second Letter could be from people who snagged it before it reached Frost, maybe 17th Sharders, though they don't seem to have the same neutrality mindest that they do. My money is on the Ire. Hoid may have meant his letter to someone in particular and got this as a response. Bearer of the First Gem is probably a reference to Topaz. I wonder about its significance. Whoever this is seems to think they control many worlds. This is huge. Still sounds like Ire to me. Curious as to how one would hide a planet. Obrodai is doubtless a new planet, where these people have a base of operations. This makes it sound like Hoid delivered the letter in person. The new avatar scares me. This has implications. Very interesting. What are the tests??? HARMOYYYY MY SWEET MAN. It's obviously him guys, don't even bother arguing. How are you? Not too much of significance here that we don't already know, but storms it's nice to hear from him here. This made my day guys. He's intrigued by Hoid, and wants to learn more. Enjoy! And again please keep this spoiler free of Oathbringer plot details.
  15. If you make an account you could inbox me, and I'll tell you. I'd rather not say publicly, as I don't want the store to get in trouble.
  16. @mariapapadia, the eBook or Kindle edition are a great option that work as well. I usually get that while I wait for the book in the mail. You still get the art that way.
  17. Brandon has intentionally put that in there to make it seem like he is. That makes me think something else might be happening, just on instinct. It's certainly possible, and would make for a good story, though, and you do have evidence. I'm not a personal subscriber to the theory, but I don't have an alternative. Nice job on picking all that out.
  18. I think I have a post on reddit that details each book, if you're interested in editions (link in the spoiler). It was a few months back instead of today so a few things are different. But for the most part, they're signed an numbered first editions with a few exceptions. Since then we've added Snapshot (#290) and the "newer" Alcatraz book 1 to match the rest. I'll probably get the Edgedancer eventually, but I do have both stories in it already so it's not a huge priority. I don't think I've seen it in town but I almost did buy it a couple weeks ago when I was in a Barnes and Noble in another city (settled on a leatherbound "Complete works of Edgar Allan Poe" instead). If you want to talk further, maybe you should PM me so we don't derail the thread too much
  19. Yeah, he "doesn't read aloud" My own Sanderson collection (granted my dad bought most of them) Spoilered for size:
  20. Glad you enjoyed the posts! The book was on the shelf because we wanted to see how beautiful with the others. After the pic we promptly read the first Interludes. Unfortunately (for me) my friend took the book home, as he bought it, but we're going to pass it back and forth until Tuesday because we have this interesting idea on how we want to go through it together and react to the same stuff. I am suffused only because of the epicness of our adventure and the extra bit of book I got to read. But! I get it back tomorrow evening when I can catch up to what my friend is undoubtedly reading as we speak. In the meanwhile, I'm rereading Part One on Tor. EDIT: Sorry, missed a question. We are not in the States, we're in Canada. I'm pretty sure our bookstores have the same policies. I hope they didn't get in too much trouble for our purchase. EDIT2: @Marethyu316 The pages feel thin, but I didn't go back through WoR to check. It's over 1200 pages, so it's definitely something to do with that.
  21. Me not saying that was an egregious wasted opportunity. Head-cannon accepted. Purple-hair cashier is now confirmed to be Hoid's newest alias. Be on the lookout. Here's the book on my shelf and me with the book in case you're still doubting Spoilered for size:
  22. UPDATE, GUYS It WORKED. Before you ask, no, we didn't steal anything. So there I was, feeling antsy, sitting and wishing I had Oathbringer. Remembering my friend's escapade from yesterday (you can read about it above), hatched a plan. I figured I'd let my friend in on it, combining my optimism and his luck (any time he's in the car with me, green lights all the way). "So," I say, "We should go to the bookstore downtown (the one from yesterday's story was a different one. They already knew our tricks) and...and just see if they have it. Maybe we'll at least get to hold it, and page through Part One for art. Yes I'm desperate." "Okay," He said, "Pick me up at 3:50." He was clearly only into this for my benefit, but I didn't care. I really was desperate. So the time comes and he gets into the car, and off we go to the bookstore. We knew it probably wouldn't work, but there was at least a chance, and we were gonna take it. We get our stories straight that we are just two average young adults who heard the book was coming out this week, and do you have it in the back? That story wasn't necessary. We arrived at the bookstore to find that the book was ON THE SHELVES! We took a minute or twenty to look through at a few things, like art, and who has the chapters in Part Two (yenno, nothing spoilery), just in case this was the only chance we had, and we met the fate that my friend did yesterday: Walking out book-less. Then my friend realized: He didn't have his wallet, and we only had half an hour 'til closing! We left, trying not to think of the fact that that may have been our last experience from Oathbringer this week, and trying to look as innocuous and nonchalant as possible. We get to his house, grab the wallet, and practically race back (that is, until we were followed by a police car, and couldn't speed). Looking at the time, my pulse quickened even more, and I started shaking. Would we make it in time? Getting to the store for a second time, hoping they didn't recognize us from before, we promptly walked over to the books. They were blessedly still there. As we only had time to go back for one of the wallets (and the fact that I have no money), my friend paid for the book while I wondered the stacks, stroking another copy of Oathbringer, ready to hide it in case they came to put them away, having discovered the release date. It all came down to this moment. Would they notice, or was our blessed book free? I heard words spoken, but I was too far away to make them out. I heard the beeps of machines, but that could have meant anything. Then I saw my friend, my dear friend walking down the aisle of novels towards me, with a grin on his face, Oathbringer in hand. He'd done it. Trying our hardest to look innocent while shaking, we left the store. It was nearly impossible not to skip and whoop for joy, but as soon as we made it to the car, whoop we did. Pinging my friend @RandyD
