  1. My top twelve favorite Stormlight Archive characters, from 12 to 1. (I'm including characters in WoR from the excerpts released by Tor.) 12. Renarin 11. Adolin 10. Rock 9. Teft 8. Taravangian 7. Shallan 6. Dalinar 5. Eshonai 4. Lift 3. Hoid/ Wit 2. Jasnah 1. Kaladin.
  2. It could be a female POV character from one of the interludes we don't know about yet. I find the mentioning of leaves interesting.
  3. Actually Renarin's physical limitations would cause him more problems as a boy not a girl. Girls are expected to be physically weak, protected, and allowed to pursue the mind. I agree Peter said there is something crazy in WoR, but I'm sure, whatever it is, it would make sense in the story. Considering all of Renarin's problems, he would actually better off hiding as a woman or joining the ardentia.
  4. I think the fact that the verb "read" is used in context with Renarin is the most interesting part of the message. However, Dalinar and Kaladin can also read, though only glyphs. Renarin is most likely only reading glyphs. I bet there will be several writings on the wall like this. Talk about only getting a taste. It's as though I have been promised cake and I just got a sample of the frosting. Very yummy, but not satisfying.
  5. Kaladin has long hair and wears a spearman's cap most of the time. Dalinar saw the glyphs after he was rescued, but he probability didn't look at them to closely and has not seen them since. Kaladin most likely keeps them covered up. I doubt Dalinar or Adolin have thought about looking at the glyphs because they have been too busy with other matters. As the story progresses, and someone notices Kaladin giving murderous looks to Amaram, and maybe calling him "brightlord," Dalinar, Adolin, or bridge four members are going to look more closely at Kaladin's scars and note where he was enslaved. In fact I wonder if Rock and Teft are going to ask what's going on in Kaladin's fifth chapter. Dalinar can read some glyphs. Adolin can't at all.
  6. They would still be relics. The soulcaster fabriels are relics and they weren't made the the Knight's Radiant either. Actually the more and more I read TWoKs the worse I feel about the blades. Not only do Syl and Kaladin get bad vibes from them, Taravangian and Szeth also speak of them with distaste. At this point I think if they were copies that would be better than other things I have considered them being, from the remains of Spren to tools of Odium. It also bothers me how much everyone wants Kaladin to get a shardblade. Besides the fact that he loves the spear, and has never held a sword in his life and so would have no talent with a shardblade, something is wrong with the shardblades and plate.
  7. I guess we will see. But it would be an interesting twist.
  8. Except for the half shard shields that exist in modern Roshar. It's likely my speculation is wrong. However, if regular people could use the KR plate and blades why are there only a hundred or so sets in the world, when there used to be thousands of KRs?
  9. They could give us the ebook now, but that wouldn't be fair to those who want a printed book.
  10. More evidence. Just finished my reread to prepare for March 4th and I came across this. Chapter 75 "In the Top Room." page 997 bold formatting added by me. This suggests men do not bear the Shards of the KR now. I could be reading to much into it, but something is wrong with the shardblades and plates humans have at the time of TWoKs.
  11. Maybe the new plate is less effective because it is a copy of the original. I admit this is a speculation (even in the title of the thread), but there is something wrong with the modern plate and blade.
  12. The helmets disappeared and reappeared in one of Dalinar's visions. Chapter 19 "Starfalls" pages 304 and 305 Szeth isn't a Windrunner and most likely gets his power from what you said. His power acts like a windrunner's however. I don't know how Kaladin could use plate powered by gemstones. One theory is that gemstones didn't power the Knight Radiant's plate. That would work.
  13. According to Dalinar's visions, Shardplates and Shardblades work differently in the "modern" era of Roshar than in the time of the Knights Radiant. Also there are a lot less shards in the world than there should be. Chapter 52 "Highway to the sun" page 730 Where did all the other blades go and why did the plate behave so differently? What if the plates and blades are made like fabrials, and are copies of the knights' equipment. Yes in that same chapter I quoted, people are picking up the Knights' blades and plate and fighting over them, but it doesn't show them using them. What happened to the missing equipment? What if it deteriorated without the Knights and their spren powering it? They could have copied the blades and plate. They copied surgebinder powers. Chapter 72 "Veristitalian" page 979 They didn't have those fabrials in the time of the Radiants. Chapter 62 "Right for Wrong" page 861 So the soulcasting fabrials must have been made later. They are close to making shards now. Maybe they made these copy shards in the past. If the shards are copies, then that could explain why they didn't feel right to Syl or Kaladin. It might also explain why windrunners in the past had shard plate, but Szeth could not use plate with his surgebinding powers. So what do you think?
  14. Oh Sadeas's betrayal completely surprised me. I was disappointed I didn't see it coming, but I'm glad I didn't know. Also there is something so symbolically right about how Dalinar trades his shardblade and I'm glad didn't know he would do so before hand. I read Warbreaker and Elantris before I read Mistborn, so the twist about the Lord Ruler didn't surprise me. Maybe that's why Sadeas's betrayal did. Sadeas is far less complicated and far more predicable than other characters by Sanderson. His excerpt on Tor didn't disappoint me because it fit him perfectly. I'm hoping the wife is more interesting but I digress. Still, it is good to go into a story fresh.
  15. I knew who killed Dumbledore before I read "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince". I still enjoyed the book. I also knew much of the plot of TWoKs before I read the book and knew that Kaladin and his bridgemen would end up as Dalinar's bodyguards, though I didn't know how it would happen. I still loved that book so much that I read it again right after I finished it. I've reread other books, including some of Sanderson's, but never right after I finished them. I will not read the end of WoR before I read the rest of the book, but a good story will not be ruined if the ending is spoiled.
  16. If you burn them down they will never shelve the book.
  17. I will control the spice.
  18. I will eat the food off the richest tables. I will be awesome.
  19. Great for entertainment and self-defense.
  20. Hey, what if Oathbringer is Dalinar's spren?
  21. Yes and yes. There is that scene with Dalinar and the fact that Sadeas can summon and send the blade away at will. It's Sadeas, but I don't think it will do him much good.
  22. I have several friends who do this. That's why I added it to the pole.
  23. I get the vibe that the Ghostbloods are as interested in Shallan as they are in her father's soulcaster. Kabsel knew who Shallan Devar was, I'm sure and he was eager to keep her alive and return home with her. Also there are mysteries in her past that I think relate to spren and shadesmar. When I read her brother's interlude in TWoKs, I knew there was quite a story. Kaladin's flashbacks showed us the good foundation he had that made him desire to save others no matter how bad things got for him, but they are the parts of TWoKs I skip the most. It's a story we have read before, except the conflict with Reshone. I want to know what kind of a mess Shallan is and how she will overcome it. I am very eager to read her flashbacks.
  24. With so little space right now, I fear the hardcover will be damaged at my house. When I get more space I will get all of the Stormlight books hardbound. For now, the ebook and audiobook will do.
  25. Moogle, what do you think Dalinar should do?
