  1. As far as we know, yes, but we don't know everything. TWoKs page 979 Then there is also the fact that each proto-radiant so far has been bonded to a spren. Maybe Dalinar's order is different and we will learn how he can be a radiant without a spren in WoR, but I doubt it. Dalinar could gather the KR without being one himself. However, if he is the Bondsmith, I'm sure a spren will show up eventually.
  2. If I didn't have a One year old who I'm still Breastfeeding I would go. But family first. I'll try to catch his tour for Firefight, Shadows of Self, or Stormlight 3.
  3. Could be. When I read the back blurp for WoR I thought of how Mistings and Mistborn had to be snapped to gain their powers. One event was enough. I think Kaladin could surgebind before he became a slave. Tien's death would have been enough. Ym's interlude suggests he has a criminal past. Lift grew up on the street, so any number of things could have happened to her. She seems very focused on food. Yes I know she invests from the food she eats, but she most likely starved before she became a surgebinder. As for Jasnah, I don't think she was raped as some have assumed (that would be really cliche) however something has happened to her. There is some trauma from her past that is the source of her issues with men. It could be nothing more than a robbery. That would be enough of a victimization to cause spiritual damage.
  4. Even if they learn about the Oathstone, how will that get it if it is hundreds of miles away? I guess if they somehow capture Szeth alive they might try to get the stone, but not in book 2. Still, that would mean Szeth survived WoR, which was my original question.
  5. I remember reading somewhere that Kaladin will have another flashback sequence in the second Stormlight Arc, but I could be wrong. If that is the case I think he would be around in book 6 too so the readers remember who he is after the long break between books 5 and 6. Who well, we will see what happens. From the back cover of WoR. Bold text changed by me,
  6. Yes, I read both of those series. Every death was satisfying and served the story well. At this point the only characters I would truly be shocked to see die are Shallan and Kaladin. Adolin, Renarin, and Dalinar could all die in WoR and it would work, I just don't think they will yet. Edit: And if Kaladin died at the end of the series that would be fine. I have no issue with character death. I thought Vin and Elend's death in "Hero of Ages" was beautiful. But if you kill the character who is driving the story forward then that is the end of the story. It would be like killing Vin in Mistborn. There would have been no trilogy without Vin.
  7. Renarin could die, but I have my doubts. WoB is that he has a spren. Why give him a spren, which opens many possibilities for him as a character and then just kill him off? It could work, but it would be a waste. Actually, I think Adolin is more likely to die than Renarin, because his death would affect the reader more and he would be easier to write out of the story. I like Adolin, a lot. I like him even through he is giving the stink eye to my boy Kaladin. None the less in Book one he felt like a function of Dalinar's arc. He might come into his own and expand as a character in his own write. He might have tragic arc that ends in WoR with his death. Also, Dalinar's death would be enough to break Adolin. I wouldn't like it, but I could see Dalinar dying in WoR. Personally, I don't think any of them will die, but if Brandon did kill them off he would do so in a way that was fulfilling to the story.
  8. Adolin isn't broken enough to be a surgebinder. His life has been too normal. He's a bit spoiled and through his father has taught him to work hard he has also given him a lot. He is golden son of the Kholin house. Now he could have something happen that breaks his soul and thus makes surgebinding possible, but for now, I don't think so.
  9. Shallah: I'll never let go Yalb. Gag, I hope not.
  10. Dalinar is dominating Elhokar, but Elhokar is asking for it. If Dalinar didn't control him, the other highprinces would. Does that make it right, no, but Dalinar is in the position he is because Elhokar trusts him. Elhokar still has the ability to strip him from power if he no longer trusted him. He could do it as king, or he could have Adolin enforce it using that paperwork Dalinar's scribes wrote up that would force Dalinar to abdicate if he went too mad. The reason Dalinar has the power that he does is because Elhokar trusts him.
  11. Actually the reason they are considering stormform, at least in the beginning of WoR, is because they know about Kaladin, not because of what Dalinar is doing. Now perhaps they will decide they made the right choice pursuing stormform once Dalinar pushes a direct attack, like the back of WoR suggests. Still you can't place the blame completely on Dalinar's shoulders.
  12. I'm worried more by the journal excerpt before chapter 9 That was written after the disaster. Then in Dalinar's next chapter he seem certain he wrote it. Maybe nothing is wrong, but it is worrisome and at this point it is as likely for Dalinar to be possessed by a voidbringer as it is for him to be the Bondsmith.
  13. We assume Dalinar is the Bondsmith, but we don't know for certain. I have doubts he is a proto-radiant, unless he start seeing spren. One thing we do know for certain now is that you need that nahel-bond to become a radiant. Maybe Dalinar will start seeing a spren somewhere around part 3 of WoR, but by what we have now Renarin has a better chance of becoming the Bondsmith than Dalinar. Further I'm worried about what happened with Dalinar the excerpt. If he wrote that message on his wall that is not a good sign.
  14. The Pirate Captain boards the ship. "Rrrgh, this be my boat now." "Lie." Pattern zips under his boots. "Correct," says Jasnah. In a flash of light, the Captain poofs into smoke.
  15. I'm speculating that Jasnah uses her order's second surge and transports herself and Shallah to safety. Only problem, she isn't very experienced with this surge and can't control where they go. Also, she uses up all their stormlight and so they are stuck where they are until they can infuse their spheres. I guess we will have to see.
  16. I fixed it. LOL. But the d key is not so far from the g key.
  17. I love the tidbits you post. I was going to check out Tor.com anyway, but now I'm really interested.
  18. You have a point, but consider this. A spren chose to bond with Shallan, a thief and murderer, because she admitted she was a murderer. Some want to say it was in self-defense but Pattern said she was sharing a powerful truth at the time. Maybe as surgebinders took on the oaths the old sins of the past were ignored as long as the proto-radiant promised to never do that stuff again. Further a spren could bond with someone without them becoming a radiant. Kaladin was already surgebinding before he knew the first oath and Shallan has never spoken any of the oaths. We don't even know for certain if Jasnah has spoken the oaths, she may have but we don't know. I'm not saying Amaram has bonded with a Spren, he probably hasn't, but as far as we know he could have. @hoser-- You have a point, but winning Amaram shards away from him in a duel would not be enough to satisfy justice. It's better than nothing true, but Amaram could away win the duel. Also, I don't see Adolin at this point dueling on Kaladin's behalf, nor do I believe Kaladin would fight with shards. He doesn't know how to use a sword, loves the spear, and Syl hates shardblades. I don;t know why people are so eager for Kaladin to get a shardblade anyway. Kaladin sensed something was wrong with the blade long before Syl ever said anything.
  19. This happened to me years ago. I received Harry Potter 5 the day before it was supposed to be released. That was awesome. It was one of the reasons I considered getting the hardcover of WoR through Amazon.
  20. Okay, to all who want Amaram to receive Justice by Alethi law, how can that happen? Kaladin has no proof that he won the shards, none. Kaladin may get justice, but it will not be through the law. Even if Dalinar learns the truth, I doubt he will be able to help Kaladin either. Kaladin didn't confront Amaram because he is wise.
  21. This is most likely the case, but it is still not clear. Oh well, I'm sure an explanation is coming. Oh that would be awesome. If not in WoR I want her POV in a later book.
  22. Hmmm.... good point. Brandon really needs to clarify Jasnah's limitations. Still, that would be funny in a sad way. Kaladin gets all glowie ready to lay some smackdown and then Jasnah turns Szeth into stone. Afterward commenting to Kaladin, "Aw, so you are windrunner." At which point every reader would toss their book across the room feeling cheated. I wonder if Jasnah was able to kill those men because they didn't expect it. Maybe there is a way to counteract the power. Otherwise Jasnah is the most powerful human on Roshar. What does she have to worry about? Just give her enough gemstones and she can take care of the voidbringer problem all by herself.
  23. Awww.... But I bet he would look good in a scarf or bow tie.
  24. Yeah, that is my favorite scene in the book. I think Sadeas is bonded with the blade because he can summon it and send it away at will. I think when the blade is loaned you can't send it away or summon it. Also if Dalinar tried to take it back I think Sadeas would demand his "property" returned too.
  25. Maybe the third idea is: I will seek Justice not Vengeance.
