Mid-Range Game 56: Day of Reckoning
Araris Valerian replied to |TJ|'s topic in Sanderson Elimination
Oh. Well, the rest of the thread should hurry and catch someone else up then. Can't have people wondering if I'm doing my reverse-psychology D1 anti-bus strategy.- 1557 replies

I'm pretty sure I can shuffle with Kas as well . But, failing that, I can kill you . Wait who's the third?- 1557 replies

Mid-Range Game 56: Day of Reckoning
Araris Valerian replied to |TJ|'s topic in Sanderson Elimination
Spark O'toole was tired. All day and most of the night he had tried to tell the others that he was not a Baron. But of course they didn't listen. Instead they followed him, watching his every move. For the first time in his life Spark knew what those he followed had felt. The eyes drilling into the back of his head, shadows lurking just around the corner. Never seen but always watching. It was maddening. How do people stand this. he thought. Try as he might, he just couldn't escape from those prying eyes. It was exhaustion that finally drove him to his cot in the hallway. Not long after he fell into a restless sleep did a shadow loom above him. "I won't miss this time." the figure whispered. Placing their hand gun against Spark's temple, the shade pulled the trigger. Spark woke up drenched in a cold sweat. The same nightmare kept haunting him over and again. Each time, they were so close to hunting down the last of the Barrow Barons, and he knew who the last one, Mitosis, was, but nobody would believe him. Each time it ended with that gun against his head, the trigger being pulled. Spark hated feeling like a wimp, cowering in his sleep each night as he waited to die. He'd hoped that traveling out to Antarctica and away from the city would calm his dreams, but if anything they were becoming more vivid each night. His last idea to stop the dreams was to kill an Epic himself. Maybe that would bring him peace at last. Of course, dying to an Epic would bring relief all the same. Gonna echo what Archer said to @Thaidakar the Ghostblood; your vote is a tool to kill someone, use it wisely and for it's intended purpose. Going to assist Kas in the shuffle thingy: Mat- 1557 replies

Yeah that works. I think the village trying to use the Fang as Experience described is definitely an edge case, but I definitely think there are members of our community that would try something like that, so it's worth planning around.
-
Yeah, there is also an issue of the village gaining a massive advantage if they go after this and the Fang actually goes through, since they narrow the POE to 1/3 on C1. And this has a 5-10% chance of happening depending on the elim team size. Perhaps a fix is to allow each elim to be able to use the Fang at most once per game. That way any sort of village plan would just burn the Fang C1, netting them nothing. Yeah, the elims could trigger Fang early, but only if some villagers were pushing for it anyway.

Anniversary Game 8 / AN11: Back to Beginnings
Araris Valerian replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I think this must be related to my passive ability to fly under the radar, which honestly baffles me, so I'm afraid you'll have to work it out on your own. -

Which one? You already mentioned that you keep changing characters, and I've demonstrated that I'm prone to slipping my voting philosophy given the slightest chance, so no hope for teaching you about being anonymous. -

Araris Valerian replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yeah, I was Aralis until the AGs stopped being Tyrian. Then I was Arenta in Fallion's Tears, and I feel like she's an honorary Tyrian character. Not sure what I'll do moving forward, but I'll definitely switch things up at least a bit to stay "anonymous". -
I'm going to continue my trend of borrowing character names from writeups and join as Arval. We'll see if my elderly self can still keep up with two games at once.

Anniversary Game 8 / AN11: Back to Beginnings
Araris Valerian replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I do think that it would be nice to have room for a non-anonymous Tyrian game every now and then though, because I can't both RP as Aralis and pretend to myself that I'm being subtle about my identity at the same time. -
Anniversary Game 8 / AN11: Back to Beginnings
Araris Valerian replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Obviously the best course of action is to have 2 Anniversary Games each year, one anonymous and one not! -
While I would say that this would allow a new GM to have a few more options than vanilla/Tyrian+, that is the idea. It’s best to draw the line somewhere, and we can consider special cases if they come up. My personal take on this is that it’s better to err on the side of lowering the feasibility of such lurker strategies than to have to consistently have to deal with inactive players. Like you say, it is possible to lurk without filter dodging, and as the man known for flying under the radar, I can say for sure that it’s possible to maintain a low profile without doing either. With regards to the IM thing, and specifically you/Archer, my number one priority was to defuse the conflict, and number two was to keep everyone in the game. Something worth adding would be emphasis on the IM’s part that those sorts of emotions can come about from players on either team. The wording above is a little vague because to some extent we use the emotions others are expressing to read them. I think a bit of a tell for (past?)elim!me is ranting about people voting on me for the wrong reasons; me expressing frustration in a certain manner. It’s valid for someone else to use that as a reason to vote for me, but there is more substance behind it than just the emotion. I think the big problem is deliberately weaponizing other people’s perception of your emotions to guilt them into acting differently. That’s the sort of thing that leaves a bad taste in people’s mouths. And this is probably rambly and doesn’t address your concerns exactly, but maybe it’s a start on the discussion you wanted at least.

Anniversary Game 8 / AN11: Back to Beginnings
Araris Valerian replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, you see, I had her pinned as Mouse, but then got less confident as time went on (because she was no longer Mouse, apparently). Add to that me being less familiar with some of the newer folks, and you get... me asking the elims not to kill one of their own. -

I didn't actually know that Dyring was from a previous Tyrian game. I just didn't have a character picked out and also didn't want to do something Aralis/Arenta-like that would give me away instantly. Glad he turned out as well as he did, though I didn't stick with the CR as much as I could have. Many thanks to @Elbereth and @Fifth Scholar for running the game. Anniversary games are one of the highlights of SE, and this one was no exception. Also, @Kasimir(who totally isn't Kel)'s final writeup is amazing and captures the breaking of the curse better than I could have imagined it. -

I think just stuff about you, since the record of the GMs is a bit easier to find. If I played in this game, my entry would look like the following: Game: Real Username: Role: RP Character: And then other comments below that. -

Hey everyone, something the mods thought would be fun is to keep a sort of guestbook for all of the anonymous accounts, in the form of a PM to from the anonymous account to itself. What goes in the entry is up to you, but some ideas would be your character name, your normal username, any role you had, anything particularly fun you pulled off, etc. The goal here is to attach a bit of history to each account, something to give them a bit of personality. If anyone has any questions about what is/isn’t okay to put in these, feel free to shoot me a PM or message on Discord. Edit: Title the PM: (Username)’s Guestbook. Edit 2: Also, put the name of this game in there somewhere as well. -
That was QF 33, which was based on Murder: Mystery in Hong Kong, a board game. It was actually the last game that he played/GMed, and it was a lot of fun. Also, the GM gets to play! It was the one that caught my eye when I was looking for simple rule sets.

I’d like to get on the QF list, to run Hero’s game that I mentioned a couple of months back.
