Long Game 7: The Annealing of Luthadel
Araris Valerian replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I wasn't asking for anyone to reveal WHAT house they are in. Only that they are in a house nobody in the count has already been in. I don't see how that would reveal the entirety of any great houses' members or even a single one of them. The skaa can already kill several of the High Lords simply because their identies have been revealed.- 657 replies

Long Game 7: The Annealing of Luthadel
Araris Valerian replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
We have a guess of 8 houses in total, perhaps, and you guys may not agree with this, but if we could have people post House 1, House 2 and so forth such that you only posted a House # when nobody from your house had made such a post, once nobody was making a post like that we would have a total count for the number of houses, without either side, skaa or noble, having gained any redundant information. If that was poorly worded; I'm in House 1, if you are in a different house then post House 2 until a single member from each house has added to the count. This does NOT benefit the nobles over the skaa, so there is no reason for anyone to sabotage this. House1- 657 replies

Blue: You missed my vote for Jain. I hold to that decision because he still hasn't given us any information that we can use.- 657 replies

I'm pretty sure that the Codex Alera by Jim Butcher is pretty clean, but his Dreseden Files are a bit worse. The Riera Revelations are good, although the main characters are fairly shallow in the first book. Also, the Assasins Trilogy and the Tawny Man Trilogy by Robin Hobb are clean for the most part and all are well written, the two trilogies have all the same characters and wrap up very well at the end.

Long Game 7: The Annealing of Luthadel
Araris Valerian replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Blue: Jain voted for nobody, which indicates that he is active yet doesn't want a lynch, while most people who are posting are making guesses. Are there any ramifications to anyone knowing what house we belong to? All I can think of are that the skaa would be able to time their kills and lynch votes to destroy house powers, but the skaa probably have most of that information already anyway if they are spread between several of the houses.- 657 replies

Long Game 7: The Annealing of Luthadel
Araris Valerian replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
"Lord Kassel?" "Hrm?" "You might want to try one of these." Hadrian handed the lord a pen that he had recently designed, built with a fabric tip so as to not destroy any soft cloths used for writing on. " While I applaud your efforts to evoke conversation, surely you wouldn't seek to destroy me and My reputation so soon after the trauma I have gone through! If any of my "relatives" had showed up instead then you'd be completely justified in targeting the accursed skaa. That red:Jain though, he seeks to remove Lord Heron, who presented me with a final opportunity to redeem the illustrious name of House Penrod. Surely you can see the benefits of removing those in opposition to our honored host so we can discover any spies in at least a stable environment?" Blue: I may or may not have access to a non mobile device but for now I will do my best to make it clear which of my posts are RP and which are simply discussion.- 657 replies

Long Game 7: The Annealing of Luthadel
Araris Valerian replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Lord Hadrian Penrod claims he was recently ousted from his house by a half-breed skaa rioter that stole his identity. Only by severing all of his ties to the nobility save for a few personal connections was he able to escape to Luthadel with his skin and a House to stay with. Part of the reason for his ejection was a tendency to ignore local politics; a mistake that he is quickly realizing could lead to his sudden death in the much more vicious locale forming around House Heron. First game for me everyone, hopefully I figure this out pretty fast and get to kill some pesky skaa (or noblemen, depending)- 657 replies

I think this is a great way of looking at the various shardic influences on Roshar, but I think that Kaladin and Syl represent a conflict between Honor and Odium, where Kaladin was letting his hate for petty lighteyes overpower the attributes that attracted Syl initially. Kaladin doesn't immediately decide when Syl leaves that he is wrong, instead he has to make a connection between Elhokar and Tien.

The Ryshadium and the Knights Radiant
Araris Valerian replied to Leonardus's topic in Stormlight Archive
Perhaps Ryshadium only bond with people that a spren would consider making into a Knight Radiant or that is already being followed by a spren; they are demonstrating one of the 10 facets of Honor. Also, just to note, but horses are only native to Shinovar, yet Ryshadium aren't mentioned in particular to be limited to the Shin lands. I wonder if, partially, Ryshadium were bred/created as an attempt to make horses that could survive in the wild where highstorms are stronger. -
Bayaz from the First Law Trilogy, he seemed to be a product of a harsh world until the end of the last book, when he showed that he was really just arrogant and a petty bully, who should have died several times during the story, any of which would have made a MUCH more satisfying ending.

What are you playing right now?
Araris Valerian replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I just installed Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds on my computer, having a blast replaying all of the campaigns. Also been doing some Terraria, Pokemon, Minecraft and trying to get Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door to work on my buggy Wii. -
Tineyes, Windwhisperers and the 9+ Physical Senses.
Araris Valerian replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Mistborn
Since many of the metals can be manipulated by intent, perhaps if you focused and practiced with Allomantic tin then you could bolster some of those other senses, for example a Nalthian Tineye might be able to boost their life sense and color perception without having the necessary heightening.- 24 replies

I think that a large amount of the object's "senses" come from the perceptions and intentions of the awakener, who has to hold a clear image of the command in their head to get it to function. If the keys or whatever the target of the command was moved then the awakened object might then encounter issues and need some sensory input independent of the awakener, but I don't know if there is any way for it actually get said input.

Tineyes, Windwhisperers and the 9+ Physical Senses.
Araris Valerian replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Mistborn
I think on Scadrial, since there is a perception that only 5 senses exist, even if those extra senses that you listed qualify, the native people don't recognize them and thus would not be able to store them. If you gave a bird some hemalurgic spikes that both gave it sentience and tin feruchemy then I think it could store magnetoception, since the animal recognizes it as distinct from the other 5.- 24 replies

A stack of books for reading!
-
Since lerasium can be used to rewrite your spiritweb, hopefully you can give yourself all sorts of special powers, including feruchemy. I saw a post somewhere that depending on which shardworld you came from it would have a different base effect, so it might encompass all uses of investiture.

While this is a viable theory, to the extent that I understand electrum you can only interpret the future by what actions you see your shadows doing. My interpretation of this, which may or may not be correct, is that if you can't see the electrum shadow then it won't do you very much good. Also, this method of compounding is somewhat redundant when you have duralamin; the only difference is that if you have a full enough metalmind then you won't expend your entire charge at once. I do like this theory, but I don't think we know enough about how electrum works to tell if it is a viable strategy.

Theory: Each Shardworld has an Essence
Araris Valerian replied to skaa's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I like this theory a lot, save for one thing. By your logic, there can only be 10 world focuses, so after so many shardworlds we would start seeing fairly similar magic systems. Also, if this was a Cosmere-wide rule, I feel like it would follow the pattern of 16, rather than the specific pattern of 10 that Roshar has.- 43 replies

So while Sazed was in Urteau, he made some arguments to support Vin and Elend. However, he really didn't point out the fact that Kelsier was a mistborn, that he was part nobleman, and that TLR hunted skaa mistings because they were harmful to his government. While Ruin definitely had a sold hold on Quellion, some of his council members could have been swayed by such an argument. This part of the book never really felt right to me, even though Sazed was depressed. Does anyone have any thoughts/has Brandon already revealed this?

While I personally believe that a spike would add to your weight, and thus would be able to be stored in a metalmind, we have some WoB that you don't store a percentage of an attribute, but a flat amount that the feruchemist can adjust at will. Otherwise, ceratin powers such as age could be abused since there really isn't an upper limit. However, if you only weighed 5 pounds then your max weight that you could store at any point, without any restrictions, would be 5 pounds. If you gained a 500 pound spike I believe that you would be able to store up to 100 pounds or something nearby. Mostly this is just my opinion though.

Feruchemy is the balance magic between Ruin and Preservation. Furthermore, it only existed in the Terris people as far as we know before AoL, and even then it requires some Terris bloodlines. My theory is that feruchemy comes about when a person who has excess investiture from Preservation, which manifests as allomancy, gains some of Ruin's investiture as well. We know from HoA/WoA that there was some hemalurgy that went on before the ascension. Perhaps the ancestors of the Terris practiced hemalurgy at some point, which led to the investiture being passed down until it manifested as genetic feruchemy. To restate, feruchemy is the balance between Ruin and Preservation, and thus may have come about when the investiture given by Preservation to all humankind was passed down along with an equal amount of investiture from Ruin, creating feruchemy. This assumes that hemalurgic traits are passed down through the generations, but I think that it has some viability. Any other ideas about how feruchemy came about and was limited to only a single population?

Will Dalinar learn how Kaladin became a slave, in WOR?
Araris Valerian replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
Amaram serves under Sadeas so most likely his presence in the warcamps will not have too much criendly interaction with anyone from Dalinar's camp including Kaladin. I think that Amaram will be given a chance to redeem himself if nobody from Kaladin's bridge crew or Adolin takes matters into their own hands after hearing Kaladin's story and just kills him themselves. -
The shard of Introversion, you can only use your powers if you haven't socialized in the last week. Using your powers on or near another person permanently uninvests you.
