I think I'll put a vote on STINK. I like Aman's suggestion. Everyone who is a Misting, roleclaim so that we can lynch you! Or, you know, practice PM Safety...
-
I suppose I was hoping to balance out the swingy kill roles by having multiple roleblocks and defends. I was also trying to have a strategic element to the roles for each faction, with some type of opportunity cost involved for most actions. For the Alerans, that would mean having several powers but only being able to use one per cycle. An Earth/Metal/Water player would have to decide whether to risk an attack, or take a safe action. For the Canim, using multiple kill actions per cycle would be unsustainable, due to the BP cost, and would deprive Warriors of their ability. It would also weaken their faction during the vote. I could change the cost of the Lightning Strike action to be more expensive, and that's part of the feedback I was hoping to get. At a cost of 5 or 6, the Traditionalist could only use it by committing suicide from full BP, but would get a double kill in exchange. The Marat strategy would be focused on using the Whelp effectively. Edit: Possibly another idea for the Alerans, which would make sense flavorwise, would be for a player to be able to spend an action to claim a single Fury of a dead player, and to limit this to one per dead Aleran.

Codex Alera Faction LG: Any feedback on these roles/rules would be appreciated.

This was the main reason I wanted to lynch you, and also I think it set off a lot of red flags for the village when I became a little too insistent about getting the Shadowblaze. Out of curiosity, what would the Shadowblaze have done had you acquired it?

Somewhere outside of Luthadel, the mists swirled and condensed upon a hill. Abruptly, the mists shot away, revealing a tall, dark haired man sporting a dueling cane, talking to someone unseen. "... and that's why I couldn't have been conspiring against Elend." He cut off as he realized that whoever he had been speaking to was no longer around. Hadrian frowned at the pile of ash he was standing in, then took in his surroundings. Bother, not again. With a sigh, as the sun crept over the horizon, Hadrian Penrod strode toward the main city gates.

Good game everyone. I feel like I missed the most exciting cycle in the hospital though . -
I’ll join. Seems like a reincarnation of Hadrian Penrod is appropriate.

False Religions of the Cosmere
Araris Valerian replied to Araris Valerian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That's a good point. Part of what I was trying to get at in my post represented in most of Kelsier's crew, who sort of see what's going on behind the scenes, and consequently don't believe in any of the religions they are exposed to. However, Sazed's story arc doesn't really reflect this, and he is kind of the focal point of religion in the Mistborn series. Neither do the apparent religious inclinations of the post-HoA Scadrians. -

Um, @Burnt Spaghetti, when did you use your role? -
Mid-Range Game 36: The Northern Wind
Araris Valerian replied to DeTess's topic in Sanderson Elimination
@Burnt Spaghetti We could have a chance at winning if we knew the exact elim team composition. We would just have to force a tie between each of them. Then there would be no way for them to ensure that the people sending in the sabotage orders didn't get lynched. We would have a 2/(# of elims) chance of roleblocking a sabotage action. -
To my knowledge, in the cosmere we haven't encountered a religion that is true "in world". Most religions we have seen, such as Vorinism, Survivorism, or Shu-Korath, are focused on the attributes of a Shard or an individual, which we know to be human(oid)s with potentially lots of investiture. To that end, what exactly is the point of the religions in any of Brandon's books? They certainly provide hope, influence culture, and interact with magic systems in interesting ways. However, in my personal experience, the most powerful part of religion is that when you believe a religion to be true, it adds a sense of meaning and direction to your life. Kelsier, TLR, and the Shards don't have any evident (to us) authority to do such a thing, and yet their religions all offer some sort of greater meaning to life. If someone could prove to me that my religion was created by some sort of sudo-god, I would probably become rather distressed. I'm pretty sure Brandon has mentioned some sort of "Truth" going on in the background of the Cosmere that he doesn't want to elaborate very much on, but I think the closest we've gotten to this is Dalinar's struggle to understand Honor's death. Anyway, I guess I was wondering what other people's thoughts are on this topic. Does it bother you (that basically everyone in the cosmere believes in lies, and that Shards are willing to allow religions about themselves to be perpetuated)? Do you think you would be an atheist in the cosmere, given what you know about it and its religions?

Mid-Range Game 36: The Northern Wind
Araris Valerian replied to DeTess's topic in Sanderson Elimination
@Randuir, can you confirm this about inactive elims? If it's true, and there is an inactive elim, then we've basically lost (which might be the case anyway, if there are 4 elims total). We don't have enough cycles to lynch inactive players and those players have given us no information with which to base a lynch on them. Edit: This also makes me more suspicious of Alvron -

Seems like if the goal was to use the Mess to clear people from being the engineer, anyone on the elim team not sending in an action would be in on that. So while it isn't relevant for today's lynch, I'd hazard that (exactly? if there are 3 total) one of the following is also an elim: Aman Drake DoS Lopen Burnt And I'll tentatively cross Aman and Drake off of this list, for their level of contribution the last couple of cycles. If there are exactly 3 elims, and Lopen is one of them, then lynching a non-engineer elim would reduce the number of sabotages by 1, since only the Engineer's action would go through. I'm not sure if the elims would have thought of this, but it makes me read Lopen as a bit more village. I think that makes my proposed elim team Alvron, Shane, and Devotary, with Alvron as the Engineer. Also, during Cycle 1 Lopen probably didn't take any action besides voting, since his interaction with Lumgol is what Brightness saw. Edit: I suppose I also could be a non-engineer elim as well. But I'm in this last group, so we don't need to bother with that at least this cycle. -

@StrikerEZ It doesn't really matter right now if the inactives are elims. We have to find the elim engineer this cycle or we lose. Proof that Mark IV isn't the engineer: He physically hasn't been online to send in a sabotage order. Same thing for Ventyl, although technically he could have sent in the order right at the start of the cycle: Times are Pacific, by the way. Your missing Xino in this list, since we only have his claim of vanilla to go by. Also Lumgol, I think? He can't be the actual engineer, but he could have sent the second sabotage order in. Xinoehp512 (Claims Vanilla) Ventyl (Nearly Completely Inactive) shanerockes Alvron Lumgol StrikerEZ So two of these six have to be elims, and one of the bold names has to be an elim saboteur, if I'm understanding everything correctly. And almost certainly not Ventyl. @Amanuensis, maybe I'm missing something, but why do you believe that Xino is village/vanilla? I quickly skimmed the rest of the game and it didn't look like he had posted at all before this cycle. While Xino is normally quiet, I don't buy that we should count him out. -
We decided that we didn't want Crabs running around spying on us, so you had to go.

Mid-Range Game 36: The Northern Wind
Araris Valerian replied to DeTess's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I’m rather vanilla. Also, I came up with an unstoppable plan while away, but it won’t work while the crew mess is sabotaged. Alvron seems like a reasonable option for the engineer, but Ive got lots of time today, so I’ll take a little bit before I vote. Also, Brightness didn’t have much to say, her only action saw an interaction that was a vote. -
Nice to know. Now I can be more precise when deciding if to murder you . I consider murder to be one of the greatest signs of Respect in SE games, I'll have you know. Right up there with conversion to the correct alignment.

@Alvron technically, you won as an eliminator, since the writeup says you became a Forgotten. Also, here's the link to the Forgotten doc: Pinkish Scribbles. You came up a few times, since last time you caught me you said I had a tell as an elim, then you said you trusted me, and finally, you predicted our move pretty well, not to mention killing Xino.

That was kind of your own fault . Also, thanks to everyone for playing! This game was a lot of fun, and it had been nearly a year since my last game as an elim. I’m pretty sure you guys had us if the Shadowblaze thing hadn’t worked out. An extra thanks to Sart for being an amazing GM, and to Ax’s Boyfriend for helping out!

The Shadowblaze was not an attack, so LoF wouldn’t apply. Also, Alvron sent me this in our PM during the day cycle: I’m glad we changed our minds about killing him during the first cycle.

I was a Forgotten, and I converted Alvron, who I believe was the only possible person that could be converted. The Corrupted Shadowblaze could only convert a non-Rithmatist, and Alvron claimed to me during the first cycle. Shqueeves was my partner in crime.

So if you and Snipexe do LoWs, combined with my Shadowblaze, that should give us enough redundancy to not worry about a LoV.

@Butt Ad Venture Given Sart's responses about the rules, I don't think it makes much sense for me to pass the Shadowblaze at night. If I survive, I could do it during the next day turn, and I think grabbing chalk would be more helpful now.

Fortunately, a LoR only has a 33% chance to make me drop the Shadowblaze, since I also have my Lantern and my Book. Also, Alvron's Radio might make him a greater target for the kill, so that he can't share his results. Edit: @Sart If I died, would the Shadowblaze add to the camp's defense before or after my demise?
