Mid-Range Game 40: A Defiant Rebellion
Araris Valerian replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Of course they were. We killed 3 elims last cycle. Defiant Defense Force is the eliminator team this game. The goal is to defeat them and put a more equitable government in place that will be able to thrive even after the Krell have been defeated. Zillah, I'm pretty sure you must be an elim, if you don't know what the village goal is this game.- 229 replies

But there is something like a 1/150 chance that Xino could actually have scanned two consecutive elim kills. Even if my life wasn’t on the line, that is too much of a stretch for me to buy into.- 229 replies

I think this is a last minute ploy by Fifth and Xino. Given the activity levels, a couple of vote manipulation roles, and a pistol or two, it’s quite possible that you have enough power to win the game on a mislynch here. I have taken no actions this entire game, and will have enough cash to get the village a pistol for next turn. I can’t really do anything about it though.- 229 replies

@Elkanah Have you said what you're suspicious of me for? @xinoehp512 A large part of my suspicion comes from the fact that you've gone after all the chits. I did see your explanation, but you're still one of my top elim reads.- 229 replies

Mid-Range Game 40: A Defiant Rebellion
Araris Valerian replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Here's my list of the living players, minus myself. 1. Kynedath Suspects Sart C1, thinks Coda lynch is NAI, No RP. Village read. 2. Zillah Not much C1. C2, expresses mild suspicion of TGK, Abstrusity, Elkanah, and Sart. No RP. Has not yet voted. Very slight village read 3. Elkanah First post C1 is RP and asking for vanilla roleclaims. Joins the Coda lynch. Mild suspicion of Zillah. Thinks Coda lynch was NAI. C2, votes Zillah then Kidpen. Has been active enough to earn all chits. Mild elim read. 5. Rathmaskal Early RP post that is just short of the word count. Didn't have a second D1 post. Seems to misunderstand the role/item action mechanic. Voted on Kidpen. Very slight village read. 6. StrikerEZ Slight suspicion of Fifth early, followed up with a vote. No other contribution. Village read. 9. Xinoehp512 First post is thoughts on rules. Has an RP post C1. Suspicious of me and TGK, doesn't follow with a vote. Votes on Kidpen C2, and also posts RP again. Vote on me currently. Active enough for all chits. Mild elim read. 11. Fifth Scholar Early suspicion of Kidpen. Disagrees with my vote on Elkanah. Dislikes Sart's plan. Poke vote on Striker. Suspects Kidpen and Abstrusity, switches vote to Kidpen. Dislikes Coda lynch. No RP (also hasn't read the books). C2 votes on me for voting on Xino. Switches to Kidpen. No C3 contribution. Very slight elim read. 12. Abstrusity Starts off with RP. Mild suspicion of Zillah, Elkanah, me, TGK, Sart. Votes on Coda. C2 votes on Elkanah. C3 votes on Kidpen @Abstrusity, we already murdered him. He was good. Has been active enough for all chits. Mild elim read. Also probably not on Elkanah's team. 14. Sart Opens with RP, and the chit passing plan. Admits flaws in the plan, pokes Shane. C2 votes on Elkanah. Slight village read. So my elim reads are Elkanah, Xino, Fifth, and Abstrusity. One criteria I considered was that elims would possibly be more likely to do RP posts and to try and get all the chits, in the hopes of getting both starting pistols. The only unlikely paring here is Abstrusity/Elkanah. I'd probably lean toward Elkanah being village, since I don't have elim reads on myself, TGK, or Rath, and we were the most involved in the Kidpen lynch gaining momentum. I've already voted on Xino a couple of times, but nobody else seems to agree with me on that (Fifth/Xino seems like a reasonable elim pairing). I'm less confident in my read on Fifth than Abstrusity, so that is where my vote will go. Not to mention that voting on a confirmed villager doesn't seem like the best idea. If anyone else shares my suspicions of the above 4 players, I'd be happy to switch votes.- 229 replies

Araris Valerian replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Since nobody is really discussing things, there isn't much more to do than pick someone mostly at random. Also, as opposed the Alvron, I prefer to not let the Gods of Luck and Chance decide lynches. There are still 4.5 hours left in the cycle, which is plenty of time for someone to argue for an alternate lynch.- 229 replies

Mid-Range Game 40: A Defiant Rebellion
Araris Valerian replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yeah, I guess I was trying to explain why it would be both unhelpful and NAI at the same time. I also mentioned that the D1 lynch is probably only useful if it was an attempt to save one of the other players that had a vote. Since nobody seems to agree with me on Xino, and since there isn't much time left in the cycle (for me at least), I'll switch to Kidpen. "Fade, you've got two on your tail!" Araris shot his lightlance into a piece of falling debris, pivoted 360 degrees, and took down the Krell's shields with his EMP. A few seconds later two disruptor blasts from his wingmate, callsign Gunner, turned the enemy ships into their own clouds of debris. This sort of fighting was relatively new to Araris, but he could somehow sense the metal in the debris, and that of the Krell, which gave him a slight edge in his reactions. As far as he could tell, it wasn't the same as the rumors of the abilities some of the humans on this world possessed. He could only sense metal, not the minds of others. As Araris pulled out of his maneuver, he spotted three Krell change course to target Gunner after watching his marksmanship. "Gunner, three Krell, two above and one below. I'll..." Destructor blasts from all three Krell converged on Gunner's ship, overwhelming the shields and sending it into a spin. "Eject! Gunner, eject!" "Can't do that Fade. Couldn't live with myself. I've almost..." A small cloud of dust erupted from the surface where Gunner's ship had impacted. Araris closed his eyes in pain for a moment before diving toward the lower Krell ship. The DDF method of leadership is just fine. We should all be happy to take orders if it keeps the Lifebusters away. But bloody crows, good men are dying because of how we train our pilots. Not to mention that we are systematically killing off our most eager warriors. Someone needs to talk to Ironsides about this.- 229 replies

Mid-Range Game 40: A Defiant Rebellion
Araris Valerian replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I think, since being on the elim team isn’t an item, that the elim kill uses the “role action” slot, rather than the “item action” slot, which passing chits uses. I think there is a general perception that a lynch is a good thing in and of itself. Furthermore, there is a general reluctance to vote for active players based on minimal suspicion. Combined, these two make it reasonable to lynch an inactive, especially D1. The first point is false, because the lynch is valuable to 1) kill elims and 2) create pressure to drive discussion. Since I don’t think there is a strong correlation between inactivity and elim alignment (perhaps a weak negative correlation in our current meta), lynching an inactive is somewhat pointless (it doesn’t create pressure on anyone who is willing to respond to pressure on themself). I think the only thing to be gleaned from the lynch would be if one of the players with one vote on them flipped elim, we might have reason to suspect the Coda lynch, due to elims worrying about vote shenanigans. And after rereading this, I see all of my paragraphs save this one start with “I think”. Just want to clarify that these are statements I am pretty solidly in favor of.- 229 replies

Test wasn’t a total bust, so I thought I’d pop in. @Elkanah and @The_God_King, could you give a list of your suspicions? I’m currently reading you both as village, and I’d like to hear your thoughts beyond the role distribution implications of last cycle’s lynch. (Elkanah did mention suspicion of Zillah). @Zillah, who would you lynch right now if you had to? We need people to vote, to create pressure on players, otherwise the elims can just hide. Ditto to everyone else that hasn’t posted/voted yet. Also, y’all are missing out on the bonus chits. If you are planning on doing 2 analysis type posts to earn the cash, doing them at the start of the cycle will prompt discussion, and make future such posts easier. Not to mention that we will presumably all have more fun if we are more engaged in the thread. I think I’ll try some dogfighting RP later this cycle.- 229 replies

Mid-Range Game 40: A Defiant Rebellion
Araris Valerian replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
My present lack of activity is due to an exam tomorrow morning, along with multiple homeworks due. I should be on later in the cycle tomorrow. My vote on Xino was basically, what I said it was: On cycle 1, votes generally have little justification behind them. Making a post where you say you suspect someone, but don't actually vote on them, seems like a way to participate in discussion without doing anything concrete. I also pointed out that several other players were engaged in similar behavior. I think there is also a distinction between someone not wanting a D1 lynch in general, and someone who is apparently fine with a lynch, has their own suspicions, but still won't participate. Xino, in my opinion, would be in that second category, hence my suspicion of him. Other than the lynch on Coda (last minute lynches on inactives aren't actually that interesting, since they are easy for both elims and villagers to get behind), not much has changed since last cycle, so I'm fine voting on Xino again.- 229 replies

Araris Valerian replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, I think I understand The_God_King a little better. It doesn’t make me any happier with his vote, but it makes me less suspicious. I’m fairly sure the gunner role is intended to “revenge kill” an eliminator. Given that the elims almost certainly will get one pistol from the supply, giving them a second one for free seems rather imbalanced. I’m going to vote on Xino for hedging in his last post. Regardless of whether I agree with his arguments, pointing out suspicion of someone while not voting yourself is suspicious in my eyes, particularly on Day 1 where the lynch is usually decided by some minor and possibly baseless suspicion. I think I’d probably vote on Striker, Abstrusity, or Fifth for similar reasons. We don’t (or at least I don’t) have enough time in the cycle to not vote immediately off a minor suspicion. I may not have time to get back and change my vote this cycle.- 229 replies

Araris Valerian replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I know this, and was thinking about it when I posted. It's just that it seems silly to me to dismiss someone for doing something that, in a vacuum, would be more profitable to the elim team. In all probability Elkanah is a villager just for the reason you posted, so I think this one turned out to be more of a poke vote than a stab vote (fortunately, at least I have enough of a reputation that people can't tell which is which ). One of these days, someone will be an elim, say something like what Elkanah said, and get themselves a free village read (you say its NAI, but I don't agree). That's partly why I was rather aggressive about this. Bother, now I need to find someone else to take out. I think I'll stick onto The_God_King for now, for jumping onto Elkanah after me. Edit: I've been ninja'd, but I'm not really satisfied by the given explanation.- 229 replies

Mid-Range Game 40: A Defiant Rebellion
Araris Valerian replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Emphasis mine. The elims gain from learning who has/hasn't got powers because it can help them direct their kills. The village sort of can gain, but only if they know something concrete about the role distribution. Also, I'm pretty sure that there aren't any secrets roles/factions in this game. When such mechanics are present, the GM generally makes it clear that there is at least the possibility for those mechanics, so that players don't go crazy trying to out-think the GM (always a bad idea). Araris sat on the edge of his bunk, rubbing the scar across his face. He once believed the same things the DDF taught to its new pilots. He'd marked himself as a coward as a disguise, but also because in the back of his head, he'd felt it also to be the truth. Now though, he knew that bravery didn't always mean fighting to the death. Sometimes, death was the coward's way out, while to live with the shame and recrimination from your actions was the honorable decision. None of that changed his duty, however. Humanity was at war, and during war, politics just got in the way. The time to fix things, to make an equitable government, that was all work for after. Ironsides was a good enough leader, and that was as much as you could hope for in times like these.- 229 replies

Elkanah, why are you asking all the roleless players to claim to you? It would be very helpful for the elims to know this, and relatively unhelpful for the village. My main comment on roles/rules is that with the clarification on passing chits, the elims will almost certainly get one of the two pistols. Probably 3 elims, and we have a decent chance at eventually getting one of them for free, due to the Gunner role (although I suppose this may not be in the game).- 229 replies

Great game everyone! I avoided posting “PM Safety!” D1 as an attempt to hide my identity, but I’m not sure how effective that was. Apparently Wilson figured me out after my failed attempt at being snarky. Also, PM safety wasn’t really useful this game, since everyone knew everyone else’s role by D2. Gameplay wise, I don’t think I had the elims figures out at any point in time, so props to them, especially after a rough early game. You have continued the Curse of the AG another year! Props to Fifth and Elbereth for running the game and another excellent Anniversary Game. The role distribution was more trollish than I would have expected, but it worked out great! Looking forward to another year of murdering all of you!

Long Game 62: Remaster of the House
Araris Valerian replied to Straw's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, unfortunately I didn’t get to partake in the backstabbing much this game. I’m rather miffed that Elbereth betrayed me during the very first cycle, causing my death. Congrats to her for winning and for not Kandrafying everyone at the end. (Also to Stick for an amazing first cycle victory!) My disappointment at dying was someone lessened when the person responsible won so quickly afterwards. As far as a general game comment, I’m not sure what I think about the winning players disappearing. I was worried that rule would impact strategy for players about to win, since once a player won, they couldn’t honor any previous agreements. However, the previous incarnation of the rules also caused me some frustration, so I’m not sure what the best way to remediate that would be.
