  1. Yes. As a Mormon I don't drink alcohol, but that doesn't mean I hate everyone who drinks. I believe that it's bad, but I also very strongly believe in not being a jerk. I'm not going to treat you badly because your beliefs are different from mine.
  2. They said my patronus is an osprey. My reaction to that was "eh." I'm not sure that quiz is entirely accurate. My wand, apparently, is *ahem* larch wood with a unicorn hair core, 14 ½" and surprisingly swishy flexibility. I, like Twi, am pretending that Ilvermorny does not exist. I have a few firmly-placed headcanons I adhere to instead.
  3. I took the quiz. I'm Ravenclaw, according to them. Same house as Luna Lovegood. Aw yiss.
  4. There's this guy on the bus who hated me. It was really bad. He liked calling me crazy and quite a few less flattering names. If he saw me around school, he'd veer out of the way to avoid crossing paths. Today there wasn't much room in the back of the bus, so I sat next to him. An agreement to take over the world and a few enthusiastic renditions of the Pokémon theme later, I think it's safe to say we might be friends.
  5. Theory: Twimom is a brain weasel disguised as a human being. Obviously, a brain weasel cannot have human children, so this means Twi is actually a fairy princess stolen as a small baby child. It all makes sense now.
  6. I am a boring straight girl! Shakin' things up now.
  7. The drum majors of our band actually put one into their salute. A little part of me dies every time they do it.
  8. Mistrunner's Handy Guide to Finding a Prospective Match: Wear a spoon at all times! Whether it's in your hair, your shirt pocket, or just behind your ear, it's sure to make a bold statement. Whenever someone looks like they might want to start a conversation with you, panic and start reading a book! Run screaming from all and any human interaction! Sit on the couch and eat corn chips! Disregard everything Mistrunner says, she's crazy
  9. "Rise, @Tsidqiyah, Not the Lemon, and take your place as a member of the Knights Awkward," Mistrunner says gravely. "Have a bookie. And- is that The Dark Talent?" She dives for a book.
  10. Ah, I was thinking of the band from the 70's. (You should go check it out. It's self-described as a "rock and roll band with horns." Also, I've recently realized just how much of the music I listen to is from the 70's. Chicago, the Police, Billy Joel...) I will consider.
  11. I've decided to learn trombone! Now I can learn how to play all those Chicago songs.
  12. I love Zzyzx! It's out in the middle of nowhere (I think it was on the way to San Jose- hah! always get a kick out of saying that) and just seeing the sign is pure happiness. It's also a lifesaver if you're stuck at the end of the Alphabet Game.
  13. People who borrow books for infinite amounts of time. Remember Lunch Girl? I got her to read Alcatraz, and she enjoys it, but she has the worst book-borrowing etiquette of anyone I've loaned books. She puts off reading them for forever. ("Have you started reading it yet?" "No, I've been reading a lot of fanfiction lately." "It's been three weeks.") When someone lends you a book, it should become your reading priority. You read my book before your fanfics, Lunch Girl. She actually kept one over summer break. *muffled screaming* She also dog-ears pages. I cannot forgive anyone who dog-ears the pages of other people's books. If it's your own, fine, I can't stop you. But you must agree that you shouldn't do it in someone else's book! The worst part is that she sees nothing wrong with any of this and wants my brand new hardcover copy of Dark Talent. No can do, Lunch Girl. You must earn back the right to borrow my books. [/rant]
  14. Speaking of such, I love how the cardinal rule of childhood ("don't take candy from strangers") is just completely ignored by everyone for one day a year.
  15. Mostly France, Britain, and America, because it's kinda hard to just learn about one. They go together. My profile pic is Clint Barton, AKA Hawkeye, from the Fraction run of his comics. I changed it to him to accurately represent my emotional and physical state with homecoming and homework and whatnot. I can identify with Hawkeye a little too closely. Also, the Fraction run is really good and I highly recommend it. It's basically Clint sitting around in his apartment but still managing to be awesome and it has an issue from the viewpoint of a dog. If that doesn't convince you to read it I don't know what will. (It also features Kate Bishop. She's fabulous.) It's such an interesting time period! We have America winning freedom from England and starting to set up its government: an unprecedented democracy. That in and of itself I could talk about for days. Besides that, we have another revolution happening in France- one that did not end as well. Why did one lead to the creation of a new republic and the other degrade into a senseless bloodbath? What defines a successful revolution? On top of all that, there's yet another revolution in Britian- an industrial one. There's so much good and bad mixed into that that it makes a great debate topic. All of those events happening at once mixed with some exciting wars and some of the most brilliant political minds, in my opinion, ever, makes for some pretty interesting politics.
  16. Sometimes I think I should try to connect with people my own age more, but then I remind myself what are you thinking your favorite conversation topic is politics of the late 1700s, so. ...Hey, anybody interested in the politics of the late 1700s?
  17. Why have I stopped getting notifications when people post here I'm so sorry anyway The Words have been accepted. Bladex454, you may rise as an official member of the Knights Awkward.
  18. This is possibly the best description of the Shard I've seen. All of us strangers on the internet are here for you, Twi. *hugs*
  19. If it's any help, I got most of my comics from Amazon. They can get fairly cheap when you buy them used. Of course, then there's shipping fees, and I'm not sure how well Amazon works in Australia if at all, so. Comics are cool, if overcomplicated and confusing sometimes. My big problem with them is how people are portrayed. Women's bodies often get contorted in unsafe ways and the men usually look rather frightening because oh good glory how does he move with all those muscles. Most comics have gotten better about it, though.
  20. I've renamed my baritone. His new name is Prince Bartholomew, also known as Prince Barry. I have named him as such so that whenever I get him out of his case and have to wade through a sea of band nerds to get to my seat I can sing "Maaake waaaay for Prince Barryy!" As you can tell, this is very important information.
  21. This is horribly off-topic, but when I was younger (say, kindergarten) I thought you had to manually breathe or you would die. Whenever I caught myself not thinking about breathing, I'd freak out. I was a special child.
  22. I survived homecoming! The parade was good, we pulled off the marching routine, and my arms didn't fall off from holding up my baritone. Even the pep rally didn't manage to kill me. Our team won 64-0. All in all, it went quite well.
