  1. Let me just say, I started out a bit skeptical of the new design (I'm an embittered, cynical soul) but it's really growing on me. It's going to be kinda fun to work out all the snazzy new features. Also, I think it's pretty awesome that the admins interact with us lowly members so much and respond to our comments and concerns. Thanks, guys, you're awesome!
  2. The cone of shame
  3. Okay, thanks. I knew I'd mix up Allomancy and Aons. I'm blaming it on the fact that I'm kinda sick and not quite working yet. Different-sized editors? Huh. It wasn't a big problem, in any case, but it's still interesting.
  4. Ah, well. A phone isn't really necessary anyway. I don't have one either. I feel like I would either have a dumbphone and not use it enough or a smartphone that I would use too much. Go ye forth and act! What play is it?
  5. I think the new design looks great. It's going to take a lot of time to get used to, of course, just like any other kind of change. It is very bright- I don't have a specific problem with that, but if there was a darker theme, I think I'd use that one. Dark like my soul Pros: You can minimize quotes! I love that! (Could you do that before? I don't know. It's at least a more noticeable feature.) The 'show new replies' popup actually works (at least for me, it didn't work at all before the update) Bullets have nice line spacing! Yay! Love the new multiquote button. The navigation bar at the top- I'm loving the larger buttons. I've misclicked on the smaller ones there were before quite a lot. Text emoticons automatically turn into actual emoticons! It's so fabulous! I usually use the text shorthands because I'm too lazy to actually find the emoticon bar, so being able to see how they'll look in-text before I post is really nice. I like the new text editor. It's easier to find things, I think. Cons (all to do with navigation, for some reason): Maybe it's just how my brain works, but I find it really difficult to detect where things are with so much whitespace. I can't compartmentalize them into sections, especially with the new sans-borders design; things just seem to bleed together. The extra space looks really good, but it makes the site take a lot longer to navigate, especially on mobile. It's much harder to easily scroll and select a subforum or topic quickly. Like a few others, I'm not too big on the simply bolded Allomantic symbols rather than golden ones for unread things. It makes it harder to see and recognize. Question: When editing my sig to remove the extra space, I didn't see options for aligning and coloring text. I see those options for normal replies, but are they no longer available in signatures? Mostly, I'm glad that the site is up again after all that time updating. It was terrible having it gone for so long! Edit: Oh, and I can't find the "go to first unread post" star or button that people are talking about. Can someone point it out to me?
  6. Do the play. It's a more rewarding experience, and I'm assuming you still have an old phone, right? I'm not biased at all, not at all
  7. One of my favorite things I've learned from reading a biography of Hamilton is how much his father-in-law loved him. It's ridiculous. There's one thing the guy wrote to his daughter Eliza (Hamilton's future wife) that at first I thought was Eliza writing to him. He called him "my beloved Hamilton" and said "He affords me happiness to exquisite for expression." Usually when a couple decides to get married after only a month of courtship you expect their parents to be shocked and reluctant, but honestly Philip Schuyler was probably the one who suggested it. "Okay, you love him? GREAT! We'll have the wedding tomorrow." *throws rose petals everywhere* This is even better when you think about the fact that Schuyler was a super status-conscious near-aristocrat and Hamilton was an penniless, illegitimate kid from the West Indies.
  8. I agree. It's not like a representative from Disney has come up and said "Zootopia is an allegory for racism! This is the only way the story can be interpreted." Sure, it's the easiest way to look at it, but allegory is not the same as applicability (there's a great quote by Tolkien about that). There's too many angles to see it from to pin it to one.
  9. ...Aaand yup, Hamilton won 11 Tonys, one less than the record number for a single show. A+ job, Hamilton. You have made the overachiever that inspired you proud.
  10. In honor of the Tony Awards happening today, here's an important message.
  11. Well, you're not alone, at least. I get the same feeling. "Oh crumpets, this picture of a kitten could somehow be construed as offensive! I must delete my account and never show my face again."
  12. It's also the sort-of child of NaNoWriMo, or National Novel-Writing Month, that happens in November.
  13. People who fish for compliments. The ones who always have to share 200 selfies a day and caption them "im so ugly lol". Just. Stahp.
  14. Just got back from EFY, a church camp. It was awesome.
  15. Do you ever find yourself laughing at something funny or generally feeling content with life when out of the blue a really sad song starts playing in your head and you want to curl up in a corner with a blanket and a tub of ice cream for no reason whatsoever? "Ha, that's a funny..." "You have torn it all apart, I'm watching it... buuuuuuuuurn..." "Never mind, I'm going to go lie down and contemplate human existence."
  16. I'm not sure if this exactly counts as a pet peeve, but it certainly bothers me when I have absolutely no idea what to say. And that happens a lot. Especially when I don't know people all that well, I have problems giving responses. People say things, obviously expecting me to say something back, and all I can do is an awkward laugh/smile, thumbs-up (note to self: never visit the Middle East), or nondescript variation upon "hm". This is very bad when people entrust me with the deepest parts of their souls and all I can respond with is "huh." This is compounded with the fact that I can't maintain eye contact for longer than a millisecond. I stare at the floor a lot. I suppose this can be summarized with the sentence "I have no social skills."
  17. Grr. That's awful. I can't change what people say or do, but I can give you a hug. *hugs*
  18. Um, yes. There was a thing they had someone read about dinosaurs falling in love? And it wasn't even fun, rampaging dinosaurs. Just strange metaphors. Found it! It's called A Lovely Love Story by Edward Monkton. I'm not sure how much of my dislike of it comes from its actual content and how much came from me having to stand through its reading. In any case, it was kinda weird.
  19. Of course you are! I was referring to real life, that scary, strange place where people try to talk to me.
  20. If I recall correctly, you're younger than me. I've never had a boyfriend, and I'm fine. I don't even have friends, and I'm fine! Just fine! *runs off to cry in a corner* (In any case, I've never seen the appeal of being in that kind of a relationship at my age (AKA Not Very Old). I've seen too much drama.)
  21. If it's any consolation, last year I had to participate in an all-day wedding and reception. I was a bridesmaid for my sister's wedding, which meant I had to stand still for a couple hours while people talked about love and dinosaurs. It was not fun.
  22. Yay! I am, as always, still Mistrunner over on Camp NaNo. I'm debating which project I should work on for it. There's a couple ideas I have floating around my brain that I want to work out, but I really should be doing something else.
  23. Speaking of plovers...Snowy plovers are some of the most adorable things ever. Not necessarily because they're small and cute, though they are; it's because when they run their little legs move so quickly they look like tiny eggbeaters or something. I call them twiddly birds.
  24. I think that just should be written under all the categories listed in the chart, personally. You know, "binge snacking... while tearing out your hair and wondering if it's a good idea to write this after all."
  25. I have found the truest chart on the internet.
