So I sent a friend from college the epub file of Wok a while ago. We have similar tastes in books and Tor made them DRM free so I thought I'd bring one to the Cosmere side. He sent me a text the other day saying essentially he's read all of Mistborn including Alloy of Law, he's starting on Warbreaker and has pre-ordered Words of Radiance. He also wanted to let me know that he was reading online that all of Brandons books were related somehow. Hahaha. It gave me warm and fuzzies to know I finally got one! Now I've got a Co worker and her husband addicted to The Final Empire. Does anyone else have any spectacular good (or bad) conversion stories?

Mine's that sketch Whelan made for Sanderson in his artbook. Then I made Kaladin's hair red because I'm a redhead and why not?

What are you most excited about to see in Words of Radiance
The Rooster replied to Andy50's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm looking forward to the hurt in my heart from over-anticipation going away. I wish I had the will-power to not visit these boards for the next month and a half. I can;t get into speculation when it's so close! I'll pipe up on dissagreements or my opinions on stuff but I'm totally apatheic to theorizing myself, what's the point.. It exists already and I know it. Ohh the woe of we who wait. (how emo and I being right now. ughhh) -
Really cool interpretation. I bet the Liar of Partinel would clear this up for sure. I always thought he was being meta and breaking the fourth wall.

Wild speculation: Death Rattles are Messages from Spren
The Rooster replied to hoser's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think they started around the time of Cenn's death. He certainly didn't seem familiar with the phenomena when that happened.- 16 replies

I thought that metals blinded Ruin and Preservation because they were so heavily invested in Scadrial. In the process of creating Humanity and investing themselves into the metal they gave up a LOT of power. That power inherent int he metal and waiting to be unlocked was what blinded them right? WoB has been explicit that Odium avoids heavy investment at all costs. Sure he's invested in Roshar and wants to destroy it in order to get that back but there no way that he has put enough power in to blind himself. Now it could be that any heavily invested shardic power is blinding in which case there are things on Roshar that would be candidates, I just doubt it's stormlight. The gods would be blind one night a fortnight due to the highstorms. Maybe Spren for shardblades? No it can't be spren because Wyndle and The Ring seems familiar with their "mother" and I really doubt she'd can't see her children. I'm rambling, point is I doubt Odium has blindness to Stormlight. Maybe something , but not that. Also I thought it took money? So you're saying "It don't take money"

It seems like from this chapter that the shadow moving towards the storm light is a form of stormlight access. It would make sense that even different species can use the same method. Maybe the storm form Parshendi will be able to inhale it like Windrunners, it would explain the gems in their beards, a deep rooted practical practice that thru the mists of time becomes a meaningless custom. Like safe hands I'm sure.

Selfish Post - Need Personal Recommendation

I think I need to either revisit the whole series or reevaluate my rating retroactively because everything looks better in hindsight. White knight is for sure 5/5. I think what really hook me on the series was in Dead Beat -
If he had a God metal it'd be Elithanathilium!

The Dresden files starts really hitting its stride after the third book. I marathon-ed most of the series in a few months on audiobook and at first was was Meh, the first is just OK , the second book sucks. But after the events that are kicked off int he third book it starts to come alive. I feel like the richness in the story only increases and Butcher certainly has become a better storyteller with each book. I'd say the series started out as 3/5 for me. In book 5-10 they were 4/5 (except Dead Beat that's a 5 for sure). Then all of the recent releases have been absolutely phenomenal. It's really great stuff, deep serialized characters where serious stuff happens and things change drastically over time. Ohh and James Marsters is great at performing the Audiobooks. -
I always pictured Loren in the gentle man capacity, tho I guess that's in the first book when this saying is first mentioned (when Kvothe gets banned from the Archives). I think the second Book is for sure more challenging than the first especially because the Adem portions and Felurian stuff is frustrating on a first read. You're like "he has to get so much done and he's stuck there OMG". But on a second read there's a huge significance to everything going on in those chapters to the "under story". The talks of philosophy history and little vignettes all really show off that there's way more going on than the surface reveals.

In the newly released Shallan chapter there's an example of wind spren changing formsin a manner that disproves my previous observation. I prostrate myself on the floor and beg the forgiveness of ya'll.

1. I think the Not Quite the Moon Not Quite the Sun (NQMNQS from here on out) is the collective Rosharan idea of celestial bodies. Its the stars and sun and moons condensed and purified into one Cognitive concept. Unreachable yet ever-present, It fits in the poetic nature of Shadesmar.

Where did he go after this? Maybe protecting Elhokar's wife? That could cause issues for Jasnah's assassin/spy.
-
Gavilar's bodyguard. Has he been mentioned before? Szeth must have killed him but I don't remember him killing anyone else after Gavilar showed up in plate.

The only thing is that both of Lift 's surges are on the "honor chart" and her order is for sure all about cultivation.

I love this! He looks younger and less... THICK. He was a bridgeman for half a year after all he was too hardy looking (and cross eyed {and Rambo-y}) before

Was it confirmed before that Elhokar had an Infant Son? WHere'd he find the time. All hail the Heir Apparant!

Jasnah definitely seems to Be "calling else". These are incredible!

Theory: Kaladin meant to to wield a Shardblade? (Spoilers)
The Rooster replied to Punter's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah That's the TICKET! When I say Naganita in my head it looks like that, haha. I knew there was something closer to what I was thinking. But for Kadadin just double the length of the blade.. hahaha.- 42 replies

Leviathan Wakes is the first in the Expanse series by James S.A. Corey it's kind of like Firefly in our solar system. Really good audiobooks. Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch, Promis of Blood by Brian McClellan is an awesome new one, Anything by brent weeks especially his current series. Or you could go Standalone and do Tigana by Guy Gavirel Kay (super awesome) -
Long Game 1: In the Wake of the Koloss
The Rooster replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Not going to lie, when I saw this topic was called "Mistborn Elimination" I thought it'd be about the consequences of not burning away all of your metals properly. Sorry for the derailment.- 462 replies
