It was a strange sensation, having two sets of memories in one's head. The causal chain can't be broken, so going back and changing one's own past would seem impossible. To Aonar's knowledge, all the other Sharders had been too scared to try. He was the only one that knew. That past can be changed. But your past cannot. Every event, every experience, it was still there. Still a part of his memory. The strangest thing, perhaps, was how these memories presented themselves. One moment, he could be thinking about something simple he had done mere moments before. Searching for the keys to his motorcar, for instance. The next, he was overtaken by the memory of something impossible. --------------------- Two men were dragging him somewhere. His head was fuzzy, as if he'd been drugged. He blinked rapidly, trying to clear his vision. Suddenly, the two men snapped into focus. M and Second. Creepy blighters, the both of them. --------------------- Aonar staggered, holding his head as a wave of phantom pain roared through him. "Rust and Ruin." --------------------- He was in a building now. Of simple wooden construction; it looked strangely familiar. Wait. This was where Jost opened his manhunt on Hoid, was it not? His legs were weak, and the other two Sharders were still supporting him."This one has completely ignored the investigation. The only reason we can think for him to be this unconcerned is if he is in league with Hoid." --------------------- Aonar slowly pushed himself to his feet, silently berating himself for his behaviour. Really? I couldn't be bothered to give myself a note, telling myself to show up to the meeting a little earlier? That would've been much cleaner. He clutched his stomach as pain shot through him again. It was all he could do to avoid throwing up. --------------------- He was standing on some sort of platform. He didn't know how he'd gotten there, or why. He didn't even know how he was still standing. "You've refused to answer our questions, regardless of what... incentives, we provided." He slowly raised his head. Alim was standing in front of him, her strange abomination of a sword in her hands. "We find ourselves with no choice but to kill you. Any last words?" -------------------- Storms. That would explain things. It's hard to do much as a spirit. -------------------- His mouth opened, but no words came out. "Sorry, Aonar." The blade came down, and his last physical sensation was of Cuddles' deathly embrace. ------------------- Aonar walked hurriedly up to the meeting place, almost running. He looked somewhat out of breath, a little scared, and very disheveled. "Hey guys. Sorry I haven't been around much. What'd I miss?" Unfortunately, I don't really have any suspects still (although if pir2h is evil, Meta probably is, and vice versa), and people seem to be calling for my death based on my relative inactivity, so here you go.

Long Game 9: The Empty Throne Part 1: The Barrow Barons
Aonar replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
...What the heck. Why not. I never said Aidan was particularly moral. Aidan listened numbly to Kenna's proposal, shocked by what he was hearing. If only she knew how long I'd stood in the armoury, contemplating my decision... He sighed and stared at his feet, before shrugging, the simple movement hinting at the depths of defeat and humiliated resignation he was feeling. "I've always considered myself an eminently practical man, Kenna. You had to be, to survive as one of Steelheart's Enforcers." Aidan paused, and inclined his head in respect. "You've won. I know that, and I won't try and stop you." He chuckled softly. "It's not as if it would do any good, anyways. Sparks, I'll even take you up on your offer. It's not as if you can be as worse leader than Steelheart, after all." His head came up, and Aidan looked the Epic in the eyes, his voice regaining some strength. "But I won't help you here. Friend's death won't weigh on my conscience. And if you truly want my loyalty, you'll spare his life." "I won't follow someone who discards human life without a thought. Not again, anyways." The last Aidan added quietly, speaking almost to himself. "If you can't promise me that much, then strike me down here and now." He squared his shoulders and stood up straight, darning Kenna to act. Never mind. I started writing, and well... I'll remove the vote on Kelsey, and officially concede the game to Wilson and the Barons, if it makes any difference. -

Really? It actually was Kelsey? Come on. Completely ruined my fantastic (and imaginary) victory speech, right there. (I'm assuming it's not Gamma/Wilson, seeing how they could've killed me and won the game right there.) Would it be possible to call for an compression (anti-extension? I don't know) on this cycle? There are only four players left, and only three who are active. -
Aonar sat in a tavern in Urteau, waiting for his target to arrive. The woman walked in, unconcerned with environ she found herself in. She walked with the natural arrogance of a powerful Allomancer, and took a spot at the bar beside Aonar. “Hello, Wilson. Long-time no see.” “I have no idea who the heck you are. Other than a Terrisman, of course, judging by the amount of metal on you.” Rust. Wrong time period. “Ah. Long-time till see, then, I guess.” Wilson was looking rather confused. Aonar figured it was safer to explain things before bits of metal started trying to embed themselves in his skin. “Look, I know the Shard has contacted you. They’re recruiting, and want to take you to Nalthis to collect information. You’re going there because you want to try and resurrect some previous companions of yours.” Aonar paused to let her absorb some of what he was saying. “I’d like some information myself, in exchange for a word of warning.” “You’re one of them, then?” “Yes and no. Anyways, do we have a deal?” Wilson thought for a moment, then nodded reluctantly. “What do you want to know?” “I’d like to know about one of the companions you hope to turn into a Lifeless. A man by the name of Aonar. Was there anything… strange, about the way he died?” “Umm, yeah. At first we’d thought he was killed by a parting shot from the coinshot we were hunting, but the angle was all wrong. Someone else was there and killed him.” After he left Luthadel. Not a danger, then. “How’d you know?” “He’s my many greats-granduncle. My namesake.” “So you’re-” “Yes.” “Then why-” “The past is changing, Wilson. Every day. New facts in my metalminds that don’t match up with my memory.” “So, if the past is changing, why do you know about it? Shouldn’t your memory change with the record?” Wilson’s confusion had been replaced with intense interest. Aonar could almost see her turning over the implications, looking for a way to exploit this new knowledge. “Conservation of Causality. Somehow, my existence in my current state is directly related to the changes occurring in the past, so those changes don’t affect me, as they wouldn’t exist without me, if that makes any sense to you. It’s one of the few things we’ve discovered for certain about time travel. The universe will go to any length to prevent paradox, even if the means seem nonsensical.” “Hmm… I can’t pretend to understand any of this, but what was that warning you wanted to give me?” Liar. She just doesn’t want me to know how well she understands. “Yes, about that. Your mission on Nalthis. Turn it down. Go, create your Lifeless, see the sights, but don’t infiltrate the Pahn Kahl. It doesn't end well.” Placing a boxing on the countertop, he silently stood and left Wilson to mull over what she’d been told. He had more important things to do than wait. Not much to contribute at the moment, so I'm just RPing for the sake of RPing.

"...intervened in politics, Kholinar rioted. 22 people were killed, including 3 of our own. We will not let that happen again.” Aonar had meant to leave as soon as he realized that the meeting had no direct import to him, but that remark pulled him up short. "Hey, hey, whoa now, Jost." Aonar said, looking terribly affronted. "I thought the Riots turned out pretty well. They didn't have a clue that I couldn't be killed by shardblades, and, well.... I'm not exactly sure how Heron survived, but he's apparently not dead. We prevented things from going any further out of hand than they were already, and I'd count that as a success. "I've my own problems to deal with though, regardless. I can't help with this endeavour, and I doubt Hoid would want someone who still needs to ensure his own existence before he can do anything else." Without waiting for Jost to respond, Aonar tapped zinc and steel, and left. Not time for much RP right now, but of course, nothing to draw solid suspicions off of either. (Although, Ash, just letting you know, but I'm pretty sure it's 4AM Wyrm's time, so don't expect him to respond for a while. ) Assuming I'm reading your analysis correctly, Meta (too tired to be certain of anything) you're assuming two of each role, at least one Researcher and +1 starting convert for Hoid (and some general strategy notes)? Aside from the the bit about the converts (which might have just been part of the RP [once again, too tired to pick things apart right now]), I'd agree. There might be only one of some of the roles, but there are probably duplicates of at least one or two. Erm... let's throw a vote on Vron (Second) for a moment. I know he's busy with LG9, but he is usually on right about now.

Long Game 9: The Empty Throne Part 1: The Barrow Barons
Aonar replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Because the one piece of information you keep referring back to, and the one reason you keep deflecting suspicion onto Kenna, is irrelevant. I know it's irrelevant, and I'm pretty sure you know it's irrelevant. Kenna, Joe and I discussed the matter a fair bit in PM, and eventually came to the conclusion that we may as well lynch Stanley, and then kill you if he turned up as innocent. The only reason I did not vote is that Stanley already had the lead, and I felt no need to vote with no evidence of vote manipulation roles. Unfortunately I slipped up with my part in the plan, and let my paranoia get the best of me. Rather than follow the plan, I decided to roleblock you and see how many kills were made. (Reasoning being, Wilson would expect me to kill you, so one kill on Kelsey and one on Joe/Mail would've ended the game, assuming your innocence.) You neglect to take into account the fact that you first presented evidence of Stanley's guilt, and then did not reveal his suspicions until his death, at which point nothing could be confirmed and you could twist things in whatever way you wished. You have also presented more suspicious behaviour at various points throughout the game, from resistance towards Raid's plan in the first cycle, to attempting to pulblically gain information from Ash. You also quickly shot down the idea that the Barons had a Seeker-type role, despite the fact that this did not point towards you, regardless of your role, as you were in the wrong room. This did point towards Maill, although we know now he is not a Scout (but is a Baron). It's not strong, but it's far greater than any reason we have to suspect Wilson. Sorry Araris. If you want to keep protesting your innocence, feel free. But in the end, it doesn't matter. Simply put, if Wilson or Gamma were Barons, we would've already lost. At this point, regardless of your death, the game has been won. The decision has been made, and unfortunately, there's nothing you can do. Better luck next time. Given my luck, now Wilson will turn out to be evil, and we'll lose the game. : P -

Aonar replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yeah, I guess. I just don't have any clue how it works. David makes it pretty clear that all Illusions are flawed in some way, no matter how skilled the Illusionist, but how would that apply to mental Illusionists, who can create illusions of other physical stimuli, besides light and sound? We just don't know enough about how the metaphysics in the Reckoner's Trilogy works yet to really guess, I think. -
Long Game 9: The Empty Throne Part 1: The Barrow Barons
Aonar replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Can Illusionists make themselves invisible? To my knowledge, at best they can disguise themselves as something else, and there's always a flaw in the Illusion. Anyways, gah. The one constant problem with continuous, unstructured RP. Screwing up other people's characters. ...Speaking of which, for all his absentmindedness, Aidan (being a trained and hardened Enforcer) probably wouldn't have let something as simple as pain distract him from restraining a dangerous Epic, but rather than writing another conflicting RP, I'll just keep that as headcanon, I guess. Gamma: He is lying. Once an item is public knowledge, Vron will clarify it's use to anyone, and the Jacket won't deflect a lynching. Changing rooms won't save your skin, Araris. Both Wilson and I still have roleblocking and killing powers available. ...And yes, Maill, I'm totally a Baron. I'm just amazed that neither the other players nor the GM has managed to notice yet, with my being on the doc and all. -

Aidan stood, unmoved and unimpressed as Milton made his speech, and attempted to scare the others with his illusions. The Epic's back was turned, still intent on Kelsey. Walking forward stealthily, he drew his sidearm. As soon as he was close enough, he pressed the barrel to the back of Milton's head and cocked it with a quiet click. "Come now, mate. You know that won't kill me." Milton sounded perfectly at ease, but his illusions had stopped. "It won't kill you, but if I understand how those jackets work, it'll still hurt more than you can imagine. And in all honesty, shooting you would give me great pleasure, regardless of whether or not it has any lasting effect." Aidan couldn't see Milton's face, but he hoped that'd been enough to wipe the smug smile off it. "I can't kill you, but I can put you through a lot of pain, and if you keep up the funny business with the illusions, I will shoot you, savvy?" Milton's shoulders slumped, and it seemed that the threat of pain would still hold him, for now. That's the biggest problem with being able to rely on supernatural abilities. When you're faced with a situation that can't be solved by them, you freeze up. From the corner of his eye Aidan could see O'tool ducking into a side passage. "Where do you think you're going, Sparky? You're just as deep in this as he is, and fortunately for us, very much mortal." He gave Kenna a slight nod. "You aren't going anywhere." Two copies of Kenna suddenly appeared behind O'tool, taking his arms and dragging him over to where Aidan and Milton stood. "Now, this is much better, isn't it? All the murderers together again." He paused, then looked around and made eye contact with the other survivors. "Right, so I'm going to take a closer look at this jacket; see if Milton here is telling the truth. Then, we're going to kill one of these two slontzes. Any objections?" EDIT: Rather than double post, I figure I'll just change my vote here, if that's alright. Milton is a liar. -
Well, with school/sports having already managed to trash any chance I have of finishing NaNoWriMo (only at about seven thousand words... should be at about twenty thousand ) I guess I may as well sign up for this Game. Aonar is back, and he's not happy. Someone's been messing with his timeline... Aonar crouched to inspect the pile of ash that had been a long grey scarf mere moments ago. At first, he'd assumed that the information he had found was simply new. A few deaths in the family he hadn't been aware of. Accidents, assassinations, strange things coming to light as more solid information was being compiled. The Izenry line had quite the history of revolutionaries; men and women with a propensity for getting themselves involved in things they shouldn't. Things of this sort weren't exactly uncommon. That was before he realized that his copperminds were changing. Small things. Death dates, locations, causes. Things he'd dumped into the metal during his youth, assuming they would never be important. Slowly, it had started to fall into place. Something, someone, wanted him dead. Not just dead; erased. Someone, somewhere, somewhen, was making their way through time and space, searching for the link in the Izenry family tree that would end his very existence. Of course, it wasn't more than a theory, not until Aonar had proof, at least. And this, he believed, was it. An Awakened scarf, on pre-Ascension Scadrial? Hung in his many greats grandfather's closet, and given some variation of the Command, "strangle things?" The probability of that happening innocently was too small to even comprehend. He stood and brushed off his hands, adjusting the rifle slung over his back. He wore it openly, even though it would be some five hundred and fifty years before Scadrial was sophisticated enough to develop the technology themselves. If one of his higher ups wanted to berate him over it, they could take a nice long look down the end of the barrel, and decide for themselves whether or not their continued existence was worth breaking a few rules over. It was time to be leaving. Being seen here could cause problems, and there were no doubt he'd have more work to do before the day was done. Or did he? The very fact that he was still extant suggested that his assassin failed. But was that because they simply failed at their task, or that Aonar had stopped them? Rust and Ruin. Time travel is storming annoying. The Shard had figured out how to travel through time literal millennia ago, but still didn't have the slightest clue how it worked. Aonar shook his head and sighed in resignation. There was no way to know if his actions would actually change anything, but when simply choosing not to bother might erase him from existence, it was better to be safe than sorry. I just wish I didn't have quite so many rusting relatives. My reading of late has had a bit of a sci-fi bent, so... time travel/causal weirdness/paradoxes. (Plus an excuse to visit some of my other characters.)

Long Game 9: The Empty Throne Part 1: The Barrow Barons
Aonar replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Aidan whistled tunelessly, walking about in the main room. Hmm... What to do, what to do... Some new things had been confirmed. Some others had been thrown into question. It was all well and good that a Baron had finally been caught, but it wasn't much of a reprieve. Well if I want to get things going, who has acted in the most suspicious manner? O'tool over there seemed pretty worried when Ash alluded to what he was doing in the halls... And he hasn't exactly done anything to alleviate suspicion over the last few days. But he did vote for Damon... when Damon wasn't in any danger. And it's not as if the vote stuck. He stopped and spun around slowly, searching for O'tool. "Hey, Sparky! Anything to say about what's been going on?" -
I think four is as much as you're going to get. There are two criteria determining the type of Biochromatic Entity, and the material it's made of isn't one of them. 1. Retrievablity: Whether or not Breath can be reclaimed from the object. 2. Sapience: Whether the Breath merely animates, or bestows consciousness upon the object. Inanimate objects (or, more specifically, things that had never been in possession of enough Innate Investiture to achieve sapience) do not bond as strongly to Breath, and their Breath can be retrieved by the Awakener. Breath cannot be reclaimed from entities that had attained sapience previous to being Awakened. (Seems to be a bit of a grey area here. Plants obviously fall into the first category, while mammals fall into the second. Where do insects and lesser vertebrates (fish/reptiles/birds) fit into the spectrum?) When something has attained enough Breath that it becomes sapient, rather than just animate, its classification also changes. Seeing how there are only two variables, and only two options for each of those variables, then there are only four possible solutions. (Irretrievable/Sapient [Returned], Irretrievable/Non-Sapient [Lifeless], Retrievable/Sapient [Nightblood and like items], Retievable/Non-Sapient [Regular Awakened objects]) You could maybe describe a high-level Awakener as being a type V Biochromatic Entity, as they are something that currently has sentience which is being enhanced by Breath, but that might be a bit of a stretch.

Crap. I completely forgot to retract my last vote while I was hurrying to change things last minute. Well, at least we know Jain was telling the truth now. Hey, Joe/Wilson/Mail, you can use Ash to pass along messages. Walkie-talkie guy too, if one of you has the Walkie-talkies.* -

Aonar replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
My goodness. I don't like doing this, but if everyone I'm talking to is telling the truth, then Kelsey might be our best option for a lynch today. I'm still a little suspicious of Jain, Maill, and Gamma, (Araris and Ash are both getting up there as well) but perhaps we can get the Barons to show their hand a little. -
Long Game 9: The Empty Throne Part 1: The Barrow Barons
Aonar replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yes! Dang, that was lucky. I get the feeling the Barons aren't feeling real happy right now. (Unless they wanted to kill the SK... but that doesn't strike me as likely.) So, a Hallway kill was made. My question? Why Tulir? Why not Gamma, or Jain, or Ash, or Araris? Tulir was largely inactive (in thread, anyways), so his death would not point any fingers anywhere, but so were several of the others. There's no point in anyone targeting Squirrel, this past cycle, or the one before. He's claimed that he's had to drop out of the game due to IRL reasons, and I don't know about anybody else, but I would consider lying about something like that somewhat unsportsmanlike. Inactives can only help the Eliminators, so killing them is very low priority. However, it's also pointless for us to kill them, as this also only helps the Eliminators. (I do have it on fairly good authority that he was roleblocked the first night though... make of that what you will.) Where does this leave us? Nowhere, unfortunately. We've been granted a slight reprieve, but it might not end up doing any good. I wouldn't mind knowing if Gamma can think of a reason he wasn't attacked, though. -
Long Game 9: The Empty Throne Part 1: The Barrow Barons
Aonar replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Am I allowed to ask what the heck just happened here? Five people ended up in the Hallways who shouldn't have, the SK made a day kill, and we learned absolutely nothing. I have one question though, before I get in to some more in depth discussion. Was one of the players to vote for Aya the Rich Civilian? If so, it's very likely that the Serial Killer is one of the players to have voted for her. If not, then anyone who did not vote today is suspect. Now, moving on, one or two people forgetting to send in actions is acceptable. Even three could be passed off as coincidence. But five? Really? Five of eleven people just happened to forget to send in their actions? That doesn't seem right. The only difficulty I'm having is placing the potential strategic advantage of moving to the Hallway. To my understanding, there isn't one. (Aside perhaps from the inherent benefit of it being something that we wouldn't expect.) -

Aonar replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Goodness. Sorry. I've been a tad busy.I don't have a lot to say at the moment. pir2h has been acting very strangely, but I doubt she's a Baron, simply because they would've reigned her in were that the case. If she is an eliminator, my bet would be on the SK. Current votes stand at: Aya (1): Jain Aidan (1): Milton Trial (1): Raid Stanley (0): Milton This is a little disturbing, given that the cycle is almost half over. The only problem is, I can't think of any real way to push the discussion forwards. -

...Should a room be destroyed? *Gulp* That doesn't sound good. Some of these rooms have piles of ANFO hidden in them or something? So Steel was a Matter Disrupter. I'm not sure whether that's a good or a bad thing. We won't have a rogue kill running about (and from the sounds of things, there was probably a decent chance of Steel using it). But we'll also have one less resource for searching out the Eliminators in the late-game. -
Goodreads lists it as November 30th. Not certain that this is correct, (Goodreads has gotten things wrong before) but it sounds about right.

Long Game 9: The Empty Throne Part 1: The Barrow Barons
Aonar replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Aidan found himself pacing, as he was often want to do. It's had taken him most of the morning to realize that they were trapped. Usually, the fact wouldn't have bothered him much. He had food, water, room to pace, and plenty of interesting things to look at. However, death threats were a bit more disconcerting. Not sure that was really necessary. Messages written in blood are far too melodramatic, and they let people know that they're going to be hunted. I mean really? It seems completely counter intuitive. A question broke his train of thought. "Hmm? What? Oh, right, yeah. I agree, it strikes me as a good plan." He turned away and grumbled under his breath. "I already told what's-his-face that, but could he bother telling anybody? Apparently not." A few people were looking at him, as if they were expecting him to contribute something more. Ah, yes. They probably want me to participate in this insipid discussion of whom they think most likely to be one of the Barons. Looking around, he pointed at someone at random "Umm, you there, whatever-the-heck-your-name-is... Lindsey? No. Ke... Kell... Kelsey! That's it. You haven't done anything so far. Say something." There. Hopefully that gets them off my back for a while. Yeah, sorry guys. Been kinda busy as of late, and haven't had a chance to do much more than read PMs. I don't even have a Diagram set up yet. I disagree with you a there Ash/Jain, if they wish to write all in RP, they should feel free to do so, so long as they contribute to the discussion. -
Renarin is a Truthwatcher, and therefore has access to the Illumination surge, meaning that he can create illusions and Lightweave, as surges have been said to function in basically the same way for each order.
-
But Hoid isn't a Radiant. It all depends on how you interpret the question. My interpretation is that Hoid is not a Lightweaver, but can Lightweave. Add to that that the context for the answer was, "tell us something about Kaladin we don't already know" I think it suggests that Elhokar is a Lightweaver, given that everyone by this point knows of Hoid's abilities.

I'm glad I managed to peg the other two Forgotten in the Dead doc. (It was out of a list of four, but hey. ) I wasn't at all useful while I was alive, (really should have voiced my suspicion of Wyrm while I had the chance) but I got that at least.

Aonar replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Aidan Forsyth will be joining. He's not really sure why he's here, or how he managed to end up in the Enforcement Headquaters. That doesn't worry him too much though. It wouldn't be the first time he walked into somewhere he shouldn't when he wasn't paying attention.
