  1. Aaron moved away from the Cornucopia. He did not run. Running was for putting distance between yourself and something as quickly as possible, and that was not what he needed right now. He needed calm, care. In an ambush, setup was key. It would not do to be rushed. As he walked, the cannons began to sound. First one, then two, then several in quick succession as the bloodbath started. Aaron counted nine. More than usual, but not unprecedented. For some, the cannon fire induced panic; it drove home the reality of their situation, and caused them to flee as far away from the others as possible. Aaron did not flee. Prey fled. And if there was one thing Aaron was certain of, it was that he was no one's prey. Eventually, he found what he was looking for. A steep cliff studded with gnarled trees, it provided a decent view of the main trail along the river, but it would be near impossible to climb once night fell. It was the perfect place from which to stage an ambush. All Aaron needed was one lone tribute from the Cornucopia to walk by, and he would have one of the Cornucopia's treasures. He might not even have to kill for it. *** Night fell, and the faces of the fallen began to flash across the sky. He hadn't been involved in any of the deaths, but he still made a commitment to remember every name. It was all he could do to honour the dead. As the end approached, Aaron's vision began to blur. He'd put on a good show. He'd even convinced himself, for a time. But the horror of the games had not destroyed who he was, not yet. Taking in one long, shuddering breath, he tried and failed to avoid thinking of home, and of family. He shook his head. No time for that now. Breathing slowly, Aaron took hold of what he was feeling; shaped it like a sculptor molding clay. No long vague and formless sadness; it was anger, resolve, hate; cold and sharp edged. He would win this game. He would survive, be as ruthless as he needed to be, just for the chance to spit in President King's face upon his return. For your information, my words and actions are liable to differ greatly. Just because this suggests that I'll be targeting a player doesn't mean that'll actually be what I'm doing. Most likely, I'll be targeting Mutts, for similar reasoning to Meta. I'd much rather be killed by another player who had good reason than be killed at random by a game mechanic.
  2. Aaron studied the new landscape, systematically assessing each aspect. The livestock? Probably too good to be true. The forest? Definitely capable of providing more resources and protection than the grassland, but likely counterbalanced in some way. Perhaps by the simple fact that it will attract more of the tributes? Hm. Then his eyes fell on the cornucopia. Roughly ten items, of varying usefulness and distance. Anyone gutsy enough to charge in is going to be forced into conflict with other tributes, but anyone too afraid to try will be set at a significant disadvantage... Wait, no, stop. A wolfish grin broke out on Aaron's face as the other tributes scattered, some to safety, and some to danger. There's a better way. I would write out some analysis of our situation, but at the moment, I really have no desire to help anyone. Other than myself, (and those I am allied with) of course.
  3. My personal thought is that the God Beyond is in some way related to whatever force opposed Adonalsium before the Shattering. Although many theorized that this force was a group of people (perhaps even those who took up the Shards) I've always thought that this didn't seem quite right. Liar of Partinel Spoilers:
  4. "Aaron Faraday!" Aaron wasn't surprised. He was near eighteen, and with the number of tesserae he'd taken out, it was just a matter of numbers. As he began to move towards the front, he caught a few looks of mixed relief and confusion from those nearby. There was rumour -likely encouraged by the Capitol- that the most intelligent were excluded from the tribute pool. Everyone had apparently decided that he was safe. Fools. They should know better. The Capitol loved to give hope, only to take it away. He walked quietly up to the platform, unwilling to show anything. Fear, remorse, anticipation, nervousness, anger, resolve, all things that would feed the Capitol's constant need for entertainment. So his face was blank, relaxed, unreadable. His stride was unhurried, free of any sort of tension, almost strangely confident. His counterpart was far less controlled. Ceni was trembling, obviously terrified that she'd been chosen. The Capitol's chartreuse-clad escort spoke her traditional blessing, and they were herded away, with the utter silence of the crowd providing their requiem. *** Their mentor, Deren, was a slight man, bearing the dark hair and ashen skin that was characteristic of District Three. His hair and clothes were disheveled and his fingers twitched constantly, as if longing to be tinkering with some device. Seeing Aaron and Ceni, his face brightened, and he stretched out his hand. "Wh-wh-who might y-you be?" Their escort -Aaron still hadn't bothered to learn her name- turned away and sighed in resignation. It didn't take long for him to put two and two together. Deren was cracked; destroyed by victory as surely as he would have been by defeat. For the first time since his name had been called Aaron let a flicker of emotion play across his features. Anger. Anger at the petty tyranny of the Capitol, anger at the abomination that was the Hunger Games, anger at the fact that his best chance of survival in a world determined to kill him had just been snatched away. He wanted to turn away. He wanted to flee the room, find himself tools and a quiet place and immerse himself in some new project. Given his current circumstances, most likely some means to derail the train. But no. He took the man's proffered hand, as Ceni hung back shyly. The door closed behind their escort. Deren's grip tightened, and his eyes focused as he pulled Aaron closer. He bent slightly nearer, and began whispering intently. "I've survived these long years by making people think that I'm a lot less than I am, do you hear? Judging by your little show out there, that's a skill you're going to need to learn, and quickly."
  5. Yeah, I'm beginning to think that signing up for this may not have been the smartest idea... At least not when people are advocating such... altruistic, gameplay. Who said District 3 is where I'm actually from? However, this is an iterated game, so tit for tat, (starting with the assumption of cooperation) is likely the most effective option anyways. (To start, anyways.) At least, I think that's what Newan seems to be going for. My goodness. The Alliances and metagaming are starting early, aren't they?
  6. Lighteye names are usually, (but not always, I'd imagine it involved how devout the Lighteye in question is) just off of symmetrical. Having a palindromic name is considered the highest form of blasphemy, and simply isn't done. However, as Vorin Lighteyes consider themselves closer to the Almighty than Darkeyes, they tend to give their children names that are near-symmetrical, without being offensive or blasphemous. (There are rare exceptions, where nobles believe themselves powerful enough not to be called out; that's how you end up with names like Ialai [sadeas' wife's name]) If you notice, the names are always one syllable from being symmetrical. Kalak becomes Kaladin, Shallash becomes Shallan, Jasaj becomes Jasnah, Rener becomes Renarin, Dalilad becomes Dalinar, Elhohle becomes Elhokar, Torot becomes Torol, etc. It works better for some than others, and it's harder to see with shorter names, but it's always there.
  7. Dang. Um, dang. I remember seeing this in the Art of Game Creation, but I don't really think it fully sank in how weird this could get to play. Elimination games often get a little crazy, but this is going to be chaos. No way I'm sitting this one out. ...Let's go with Aaron again, I think. He'll be from District Three. I do have a couple questions though: 1. Are we going to be sorted into Districts? (ie, is that something we can choose based on RP, or something you'd prefer to distribute, as a sort of quasi-role? Never mind. (As a side note, are you looking for a number of players that is a multiple of twelve?) 2. If someone starts a PM with you, and you don't want to waste one of your three, can you choose not to accept it?
  8. "I am afraid not, you poor lost soul. Entropy is merely a guise for our most ancient Enemy... Order. Entropy always increases, this is fact, a physical law that defines everything in the multiverse. When the multiverse has reached a perfectly even distribution of energy, it will be at it's maximum state of entropy. "Perfect evenness... this does not sound quite like what we strive for. Evenness is dull. Orderly. Unchanging. This is not the meaning of Chaos." "Chaos holds no regard for physical laws." The stranger raised his hands. "Fire that chills." Black flame flickered and spat in his right palm, like a wavering hole cut in the fabric of reality. "Ice that burns." Hoarfrost glittered in around his left hand, even as the air warped and twisted as if from great heat. "Paradoxes, impossibilities, abominations that break the mind and send even the most stalwart defenders of Order into madness; these are the tools of Chaos." "Why have I come, you may ask? I was invited, some time ago, to partake of the power of Chaos, by none other than the Lady Wilson herself. Although I took my time in coming, I have come here now, to swear my allegiance, and to bring hope. To restore what has near been lost, and to usher in the new. To drive out our enemies, and to sow Chaos wherever I find myself." "Who am I, you may wonder? I am the Stranger, the Shadow in the Light, the Desolate Protector, and the Reflection of the Void. I have had many names and many titles, but you may know me by this; Aonaran a'Faileas, the Weaver of Dissonance." I know that was more than a little RP-heavy for this particular guild, but I felt the need to write something suitably pretentious to go with the title I wanted to claim. So, yeah. I'd thought about joining this ages ago when it first started up, and now that it's pretty well dead, I've finally gotten around to it. :/ C'est la vie. Such is the nature of Chaos, is it not?
  9. Aonaran sat in his tent, plucking out a slow Horneater dirge on his lute as night fell. The wind carried the scent of blood and death from the battlefield, along with the acrid tang of an far off Highstorm. Just another ill omen on a day that seemed fated to disaster. He saw the looks of the others around the camp. Their sidelong stares, their solemn glances. They looked at Aonaran like a man on the gallows; a tragedy, a curiosity, someone to be both pitied and despised. He knew what it meant. The strange orders they had been receiving were not so unusual when you saw them for what they were. Men who should have been safe, well back from the initial charge; they were dying. They were being sabotaged by their own leaders, forced to prove their loyalty or die in battle. And if Aonaran was right, he would be next. Silent for a moment, he allowed the last mournful, dissonant notes to fade into the cool night air. Whatever the morning would bring, there was little he could do. Aonaran turned back towards the inside of his tent, carefully replacing his lute inside it's case. As soon as it was secure, lay down on his bedroll to await the dawn's light, and whatever new horrors came with it. My goodness. There are far too many posts accusing me at this point for me to possibly get around to quoting them all so I'll just respond to the accusations I can remember/scroll up to and read. 1. General inactivity/unhelpfulness: I'm really busy this time of year. Simple as that. I really shouldn't have signed up for this game. Last three days, I've barely been able to keep up with posts, with how I've been bouncing around between classes and Karate and random-unexpected-hiking-trips. (On the last I managed to sprain my thumb, again. Not fun doing karate with a sprained thumb.) Due to my busy-ness, my Diagrams petered out around Cycle 2. 2. Ren's massive suspicion-essay: First off: I was honest to goodness suspicious of Meta. Nothing more, nothing less. I didn't like how he laid out his plan, and I could draw a (relatively) strong parallel between him and Jain. However, as I said earlier, he defended himself well, and had you guys decided to start the lynch-train a little earlier, I would have taken my vote off of him. Secondly, your argument connecting me to Macen (well done, by the way) is flawed for two reasons: 1. Macen's been a suspect of mine since the second cycle. 2. I was role-blocked on the second cycle. Now, I know, neither of these really disproves your analysis, (and the points shouldn't be taken as an attempt to do that) but please, wait for me to have time to respond before you start working off the assumption that I am evil, as it feels like many of you are doing. 3. Next: At what point do things move from, "moderately inactive" to "deliberately withholding information?" There's no reason for me to have withheld that I was roleblocked... oh, wait. Wilson and the Lighteyes (which would be an awesome band name, by the way ) were looking for any reason for there not to have been three kills the first battle, and I really didn't feel like drawing attention to myself when I knew there was a decent chance I wouldn't be able to respond again for a while. 4. If y'all would like to know my role, I'm a Guardsman, and have not yet used up my role. (And my role is apparently as common as dirt too which is kinda strange.) I protected Meta the first cycle, Wilson the Second, skipped over cycle four (I had no clue what was going on, and didn't want to end up saving someone who shouldn't be saved) and Vron last cycle, (apparently redundantly) assuming that Wilson was telling the truth about her Lighteye skip, and deciding that Surgeons are more important than King's Wits. (Sorry Kas.) As for my own suspicions... (roughly in order) Torwel, Jasnah Odysa, and Reihmer are all up there, for reasons everyone else has already stated. I don't really know who to vote for, I'm too tired to really do any more analysis, and I'm not going to get back on before the cycle ends, so I'll once again leave this in your hands. If you've bothered to read to the end of this, good on you. I don't care much at the moment whether or not I'm killed, so feel free to disregard the above if you didn't actually read it. It seems to me like you've pretty well got this one in the bag at this point, so merry lynching and see you all next game.
  10. Alrighty! Four left. (Sort of. Macen isn't quite dead yet, but he will be soon enough.) However, I am a little worried about what's going to happen this cycle. I was going over my notes, and noticed something a little worrying. Two somethings, actually. First: if Araris and Karlin don't post this cycle, then we're going to have seven deaths this cycle. Thankfully, at least one of those is guaranteed to be a Spy, so the numbers won't get too close. Second: There's a good chance two of the Spy teams are in contact with each other. Anyone remember this? Jain's dead. Has been for a while now. Funnily enough, no one has come forward as having received his Spanreed. The only reason I can see for why? The Spanreed went to a Spy. So I think we can expect all three kills to go through today. Needless to say, this isn't good. All our protective roles have most likely been used up (other than Scouts) and if Araris/Karlin are good, then we could see our numbers near halved by the end of this cycle. As for the lynch... I don't know. Wilson/Kas/Vron/Tal confirmed/near confirmed to be innocent. Joe is also pretty likely. Everyone else, (including myself, for all those without the benefit of my role PM [i.e. everyone]) could very well be evil. I don't see a lot of point voting for Araris/Karlin, as they're dying on Wednesday if they don't show up. That leaves Odysa, Newan (both of whom have been called out extensively, and who I don't really know what to make of) Torwel (who is a little suspicious [her role-blocking during the last battle was never really explored all that well]) Reihmer (who has already been called out) Maill, (who has been called out fairly recently ) Jasnah, (who has really contributed very little so far, just remaining active enough to avoid dying) Mek and Eoldren (who are both new players, who are still getting a feel for the game, and haven't really contributed a ton of discussion). I guess I might throw a vote on Torwel, for the moment.
  11. Whoa there, Newan. If you think I'm suspicious of you just because you don't play the game the same as few of the other players, then I'm really sorry I came across like that, and that's not what I was going for at all. I get that you're a little behind on everything that's going on, and taking this game a little less seriously (although that appears to be changing). It's largely that at the time, I really had nothing to go off of, and I knew that you were liable to respond to accusations relatively quickly. That's not to say I trust you, but at the moment, I really don't trust anyone (except for Tal and [sort of] Kas, of course). Fixed. I saw what you did in QF4. No way I'm trusting you if I can help it. : P I'm not sure who I want my vote to be on, at the moment. I don't know whether or not you're lying about being the Surgeon, Macen, but I'm not sure I want to kill you either. Then again, no that you've outed yourself, you're probably going to be dead in a couple cycles even if you are telling the truth... Eh. I don't know, and I'm too tired to spend much time trying to figure it out. I'd like to see Joe/Vron's responses, but I'm not going to be back on and capable of posting again until after rollover. I guess I'll leave things where they are. I'm trusting you guys not to screw up.
  12. Interesting. If you're telling the truth, Vron (and that's not something I'm willing to take for granted), then Macen and Joe (voting for him just to be sure he takes notice of the accusations against him and Macen) are definitely good options. We can always roleblock/shardblade kill Newan/Odysa. As per custom, I'll wait for them to come around and defend themselves before putting a more permanent vote, (assuming they respond before I go to sleep this time) but lynching one of them is likely the best course of action this cycle. Newan: What I meant was that you were suspicious for reasons similar enough I didn't want to bother writing them down twice, not that I believe you and Macen to be part of the same Spy Team. (Although we have no evidence for or against this so I suppose it could be possible.) Odysa: (From a while ago) That comment was mainly based off of Maill's oddly strong defence of you from a few cycles back. My current bet is that if you are a Spy, you're either aligned with Vamah or on Maill's team. That's not certain, by any stretch of the imagination, but that seems most probable.
  13. Well. That went storming brilliantly, now did't it? I'm really starting to hate you guys for making all the important decisions while I'm not around to comment. So, we're down both a strong player and a Watchman. That, put simply, is very bad. There's a decent chance there isn't another Watchman, (hope for the best, expect the worst, as they say) so now we have no way to find anyone aside from logic and intuition. Not impossible, but it was nice to have the Watchman to fall back on. This time, I don't have a real strong suspicion to go off of. Lots of people voted for Meta, which is strange. I thought he defended himself quite well. Had I been around when everyone suddenly decided to vote for him, I would have removed my vote. However, I was suspicious of him at a point in the cycle (I did vote for him, after all) so it feels somewhat hypocritical to start accusing people for that. I'm debating quite a bit between Odysa, Mail, Newan, Macen and Kas. I'm fair convinced Kas is the Wit, however, so I think not voting for him would be prudent, for the time being. Maill and Odysa seem like a good pair of candidates for another Spy Team, but I can't be certain. (And both of them already have votes, so I'll let things slide for now.) Newan and Macen are both suspicious for very similar reasons. They've been around, they've posted, occasionally commented on the discussion, but really contributed very little. I think I'll vote Newan for now, seeing how he's online at the moment, and he's probably been the less helpful of the two of them. By the way, why's the thread so dead all of the sudden? Has everybody given up? Or are you all waiting for midnight my time before you start discussing again? Edit: Hey, Wyrm, would you mind clarifying something for me? Is it possible for us to have a Skirmish/Battle against a Highprince to whom no Spies are loyal to? Seeing how we've had confrontations with three different Highprinces now, it would be nice to know if that has any bearing on the number of Teams we're be facing. Three Spies left isn't bad. Five Spies, on the other hand...
  14. Sorry, again. Yesterday, nothing interesting was happening while I was around (seriously you people, what's with all the useful discussion going on either in the middle of the night or while I'm in classes?) and like I said, Thursdays are a bad night for me. I had a little more time than usual today, but I spent most of it writing and researching this post. I'm really rather surprised no one has tried to extrapolate anything from the fact that Jain was a Spy. On that note, what do we know about Jain this game? Cycle 1: Made his customary rant about being on team good, and asked a somewhat obvious clarification of the rules. With the benefit of hindsight, this post is clearly rather heavy-handed. He asked for someone to come forward with a plan to prevent the Lighteye vote from being manipulated, even though it really wouldn't be a danger unless the spies were able to communicate. Other than that, he didn't say anything. Cycle 2: Ranted about why the Spies could possibly have wanted to kill Ash. Came up with some rather incomplete scenarios. Seemed very confused, if not annoyed, by the fact that Ash died. (Likely that his team did not kill Ash, unless he was trying some serious reverse psychology.) Not much else. Cycle 3: Really said nothing at all. Mentioned that he was having computer problems, and suggested for Odysa to lay out her arguments more clearly. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are three links I can see here. None of them are real strong, but they are there. 1. Jain/Meta: Jain asked for a plan to control the Lighteye vote shortly before Meta suggested his plan. Despite claiming no particular suspicion of Jain, Meta voted for him, "to ensure someone was lynched," when he was already leading the votes. This strikes me as a little out of character, and could very easily be construed as an attempt to distance himself from Jain. If Meta were Jain's partner, and Jain's team did not kill Ash, Meta's roleblocking could play in to why Ash was killed. 2. Jain/Wilson: Wilson and Jain were the two most vocal people about how strange Ash's death was. Not real compelling, but you'd be surprised how often little things like that point to stronger connections. She also passively suggested Jain innocence, although she never went so far as to outright defend him. 3: Jain/Odysa: This is probably the most tenuous connection, but given Odysa's rather strange behaviour, I think it worth exploring. Really, it's just a bit of psychology where Jain gave Odysa advice in thread to make it seem like they weren't communicating in other ways. Immediately following Jain's death, it seemed to me that Odysa became even more erratic, and a little flustered, but that might just be confirmation bias. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At the moment, Wilson is fairly low on my suspicion list (bad Aonar, bad! ), if just because of how many people have been voting for her. Twei is an interesting lead, but I'd like to wait for her to defend herself before voting. Joe is getting up there in suspicions, but he's been known to go with his gut and stick to it, especially when it comes to the faster paced games, and I would like to look at Jain more closely first. ....I think I'd like to see what Meta thinks of the scenarios I've laid out, as his is the strongest connection I can draw.
  15. Hey now, Wilson. I take being on lists like that as a personal point of pride. Don't you dare take that away from me. I gave you a pass on LG9. I already regret it, and it's not happening again. ; ) Anyways, on to more serious matters: Yeah, sorry about that. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I help teach a (well, three technically) karate class(es), so with the cycles starting generally just as I'm making supper/doing homework before running out of the house, don't expect much from me on those days. Not really much else to say. Wilson is a suspect because she's always a suspect; she hasn't really done anything suspicious, but on my personal lists, I have 'do not trust' in large capital letters next to her name, so... Kas has been acting a little strange, but his behaviour strikes me as reasonable assuming either that he is the Wit, or really stressed about exams. It doesn't strike me as particularly reasonable assuming him being a Spy. Trolling tends not to be conducive to successful Eliminator play. (Unless you've been outed, of course.) I really haven't had the time to start finding strong suspicions. I have little things, quirks and anomalies that might be tells, but could just as easily be paranoia. So, instead of pointlessly going over my own paranoid, largely unsubstantiated guesses, let's talk about Ash's death for a moment. He made all of one post, the whole game, and not a very useful one at that. To quote: He really just asked a bunch of questions, and made a random statement about the Messenger power. One had to do with the Wit, and one about an important role stepping up and claiming. Unless Ash was a heterochromic, he couldn't have been the Wit. He could have been the Messenger, but it would be a little blunt to make reference to it like that. However, the strategic question is the most interesting thing out of here. Only one role really benefits from being outed and unkillable, and that would be the Messenger. (As they can actually organize and communicate privately without relying on untrusted third parties.) In conjunction with his other statement, it starts to build a case for him being a Messenger. It would still be one Calamity of a guess, though. Not anything worth basing a kill off of. Even new players though, wouldn't really target Ash over Meta, Wilson, or some of the other more experienced players. However, if a middlingly experienced player felt certain that Ash was a Messenger, and thought dangerous players likely to be protected, then Ash might start looking like an appealing option. That is where we should start our search, I think. So my top suspects based on actual halfway logical analysis then would be: Newan, Odysa, Macen, Damon, maybe Jain, maybe Alinel, maybe Torwel, maybe Tal. Doesn't really narrow things down all that much, and it's only one spy team, but it's a start, I think.
  16. Sorry to add another note of dissonance here, Meta, but I'm not sure what I think about your plan. I have a few concerns I'd like to raise, including the ones Eolhondras already went over. I'd also prefer to go over it in parts, if that's alright with you. (Emphasis and parenthesis mine.) 1. First real problem with the plan. Unanimous agreement. When combined with (3), (punishment for opposing views) this clause nearly makes the plan untenable. Even a simple majority is going to be difficult to accomplish (there is a good chance we'd spend most of the cycle just getting that far), and still suffers from the same problems as unanimous agreement. Approaches like this strongly encourage group-think, (which is an actual thing) and any particularly powerful voices, *cough*Meta*cough* could very well shape the opinions of the whole to the point where they can do whatever they want. 2. Second problem is determining who exactly is the least suspected. If anything, people who are flying under the radar should be watched especially closely. Giving them a free pass where anyone who calls them out will become immediate targets is just silly. Choosing someone who has gathered more attention is no better. Really, saying that anyone is cleared enough in the minds of the majority that they cannot be called out with a vote in the thread in nonsense. The only time that would ever be practical is when a Shardblade has been found, but there's a decent (exactly eight percent) chance that that won't happen next cycle. Or the next. Or the next after that. 3. This is the part of the plan I take the greatest issue with. The very idea is ludicrous. Adding a clause that punishes contrary opinion (even indirectly) prevents progress from ever being made. Were the spies to get control of this plan, this is the clause that would allow them to build up momentum until there is no way for us to stop them. (Think the Barty incident in LG1.) 4. I'm not sure if you're being serious, but your logic isn't at its strongest here. You are typically a target, yes. However, no Spy would be so blatant as to try and force a lynch on you in the thread, with a plan in place to make it obvious. Even if you plan on placing a protection on the person who has been decided to be innocent, that just tells them exactly where the protection will be ahead of time. This isn't even mentioning the fact that you're a terrible subject, given that you designed the plan, and putting you in a position of influence when you might be evil is a... questionable, decision, to say the least. While no better plan has been suggested (and I doubt one will be) the execution of this plan is going to have to be played by ear, and run largely on a cycle by cycle basis.
  17. Aonaran sat back in the barracks, watching the other darkeyes train. Some threw themselves into their kata, working themselves as hard as they could, regardless of their actual skill. They seemed as if they thought the hard work could make them forget that any minute they could be stabbed in the back by their fellows. Others went through the forms slowly, their minds clearly elsewhere. More still stood leaning on their spears, giving up all pretense of training, obviously disturbed by the idea that there could be spies in the army. He saw no real point in the exercise. Aonaran could kill like any other man, and would practice when he needed to, but war was not his sole ambition. At times, he hated his people, the way they glorified fighting, war, destruction. The way things stood, the Alethi would drive themselves extinct, before long. If Gavilar was to be believed however, then Aonaran was not the only one who thought this way. Uniting the warring Highprinces would be the only way to finally bring peace to Alethkar, the only way to avoid their self-destruction. Reaching carefully underneath his bunk, Aonaran slowly pulled out the case that he'd concealed there when he'd first been conscripted. Long and slim, made of burnished ironwood, it was by far the most expensive thing he owned. Looking around quickly to ensure that no one was around, he opened the case and removed the lute inside. Made of the same dark wood as the case, it gleamed softly in the dim barracks. Once upon a time, he'd hoped to become an Ardent, to avoid the social prejudices that would prevent him from practicing his art. Unfortunately, with the start of the war and the Blackthorn's mass conscription, those plans were put on hold. Striking a soft chord, Aonaran tried his best to relax and take his mind off the troubles of war. He couldn't say he was particularly successful. Are you suggesting that you're the Wit, Wilson? That would be hilarious. I'm not going to take your word for it though. I'll throw a vote on Jain, seeing how he's been around, but hasn't posted yet. (Sorry about my own relative inactivity, I've been having some computer problems with my laptop, and it took some finagling to get my diagrams set up on my other computer.) 18. So, has anyone else read this yet? I bought it on my e-reader, and finished it in a couple hours. Even though it was far too short, and felt even shorter than it was, it was great; probably one of the strongest of Sanderson's shorter works. The humorous moments were well executed (infinite Batmans! ) the concept was interesting, and the story was engaging. The only problem I could find? At least a dozen new questions were raised about how Stephen's aspects work, and almost none of the previous ones were answered. What does everybody else think?
  19. Old Kingdom Game: WoT Game: EDIT: If anybody reads this, I've stuck the more fully fleshed out version on the ruleset to my Old Kingdom Game on the Google doc with my Roshar ruleset. (Just scroll down a little ways.) What do you think?
  20. Old Kingdom Game: On to your game: That looks like it would be a really cool game. Also very complicated, with the sheer number of actions flying around. The only problem I can really see is balancing the Trap Wards. As I understand it, all you would have to do is ask that every player targets themselves with a Trap Ward and take no other actions. Assuming that the Ward triggers off both kills and conversions, you would be able to find the Eliminators real fast. Aside from that, I can't see any powers that seem like they'd be game breaking, but with the sheer number of things going on, it's hard to really see how they would interact.
  21. I can't promise to be real active, (and I've noticed a distinctly disturbing trend where I become rather useless, if not actively detrimental to whichever team I'm on, when I'm inactive [see LG9, LG7, MR2... and so on]) but once again, I'm finding my common sense being overruled. People need to stop running games with new and interesting mechanics. Aonaran Faialen, wannabee musician, at your service. Try not to kill me without cause this time, Joe.
  22. Sorry, Damon. Can't have a Researcher like you ruining Hoid's plans, now.
  23. For the most part, Wyrm, the game seems a lot cleaner and better balanced now. It was really interesting before, but it would have gotten very confusing, very fast. Alright, so I had an idea that's been kicking around for a little bit. It was kind of a weird one, but what the heck. So, I was reading Garth Nix’s Old Kingdom series, (in anticipation of getting Clariel, which came out a few weeks ago) and I thought, “Hey… The Old Kingdom would make a great setting for an Elimination game.” For those of you who haven’t read the books, you can check out the TV Tropes or Wikipedia pages, although be warned, there are spoilers. For those who have read the novels, basically the premise would revolve around a Necromancer or Free Magic Sorcerer that has infiltrated one of the border towns near the Rift. They’ve managed to bind a few powerful Free Magic Entities/Greater Dead, and conceal them among the Townspeople. Not exactly "Sanderson" Elimination, but what do you think? Does anyone like the idea? Have any suggestions? (And has anyone else even read these books? ) I probably wouldn't run it unless there was actually a decent amount of interest in it, but I figure I may as well bring up the idea.
  24. Dang it, Newan, I thought I could trust you. I probably won't have the time to write up a decent RP today, so here's my vote. Seeing how everyone that I wanted to conceal my role from definitely knows it now, I figure I may as well make it public, so everyone can figure it in to their calculations. I'm a Nurse. Oh, and a word of advice, Vron, when you receive information that will guarantee someone is lynched, don't share it immediately, even in a quick fix. If you had held, back, we might have tricked the other convert/Hoid into arguing against him being lynched. Now, we will learn almost nothing from this lynch.
  25. Exactly. And not at all. I was dead, but now I never will be. (In that way, anyways.) I can still remember dying though, even if it technically never happened. And now Aonar is going to run off again and warn himself, to stabilize the causal loop. ...And so the Schrodinger's Sharder was born.
