What would you see if you looked at the other Shards
Dofurion replied to Sythrin's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think I need to explain this a bit. An analogy I often use to help me understand the Shards is that they are people who were pushed into playing a video game, a God simulator to be exact. But there are different types of God simulators, in the specific case of Cultivation it would be a farming simulator, where the gameplay loop is focused on planting, and refurbishing the farm with the goal of optimizing profits and ultimately, completing automation. As for Dominion, she was playing a City Builder, in these games all the legal, population and production intricacies are managed centrally by the player and the ultimate goal, like the previous example, is still automation and stabilization in the state desired by the player. What greater display of dominion than not having to do anything and still maintaining what you want?- 12 replies

My bet is that their breath spontaneously manifests Microkinesis. When they exhale on something, their axi would separate, something like a mix between Division and Cohesion but at medium distance.

I was recently looking through Coppermind and came across the possibility that the book Brandon had planned as "Mistborn Cyberpunk" may also become an Era of its own just like Mistborn Western (aka Alloy of Law) did. Beyond how Brandon plans to approach a genre like Cyberpunk that is clearly a dystopia right before a Space Opera, something that has me intrigued. One I have is what about the protagonist? After all, we already had a more or less clear outline of how this topic was planned to be approached. 1st Era, Mistborn protagonist. This being the epitome of the system (not counting Fullborn). 2nd Era, a Twinborn with asymmetrical powers (Iron[F] and Steel[A]) that addresses the novelty of Twinborn and explores a bit how to manage with disparate powers. 3rd Era, with a protagonist of Terris descent, and Nicrosil Allomancy. The subject of her ancestry has always made me think that Sanderson plans to make her a Nicrosil Bornble, it would be the perfect way to work with compounding and for the reader to see it more constantly. And finally the 4th Era with Hoid as protagonist (I think there is no need to explain more here). Ok, so now we would have to include a new set of books between Era 3 and what we now consider Era 4. What could we see there? My bet is that Brandon is going to take up the "SWAT team and the hunt for the Mistborn" plot for those books, and that the protagonist will become a Hemalurgist that they will have hired thinking that the serial killer they are looking for was a Hemalurgic construct and they will end up finding out that he is an authentic Mistborn.

Adhesion the surge of... fluid manipulation?
Dofurion replied to Dofurion's topic in Stormlight Archive
@Treamayne and @Light In the Darkness Thank you for your comments. While searching for references to support the hypothesis, I found the following WoB: I share part of the thinking of the person asking, but from a different perspective that I would like to explain in a post in the general Cosmere section. But basically it comes down to the fact that we could classify the Surges into 2 categories: softeners[<>] and hardeners[><]. And if the Adhesion works as I suggest it would be a great support for this theoretical framework. [<>]『Adhesion』 [><]『Gravitation』 [<>]『Division』 [><]『Abrasion』 [<>]『Progression』 [><]『Illumination』 [<>]『Transformation』 [><]『Transportation』 [<>]『Cohesion』 [><]『Tension』 -
Scheme for the prediction of radiant knight ideals
Dofurion replied to Dofurion's topic in Stormlight Archive
@AlastorBM and @Miracordius Thanks for showing interest in the post, I plan to update it after the publication of Wind and Truth. But there is something interesting that I found in a Netflix series, which although it has nothing to do with the Cosmere, presents one of the phrases that I honestly believe is the closest thing to what could (under my scheme) be the 4th Ideal of the Truthwatchers. It fits with both of my choices for that ideal. I will update this post as soon as it is prudent, but anyway, if you have more opinions, I would like to read them. -
After much thought, I think I've decided to publish this. Basically, what I'm saying is that our understanding of how Adhesion works has been influenced by what the characters see, and this may differ a bit from how it actually works. In the Ars Arcanum of Words of Radiance, Adhesion is defined as: "The Surge of Pressure and Vacuum." This is written from Khriss point of view at an undetermined point in time. That definition has been overshadowed by that of the Sibling and supported by the abilities Dalinar displays throughout the story. Now, I'd like us to step away for a moment from the way the Bondsmiths use it, and look in the direction of the Windrunners. We have seen very little of the full lasting POV's, if I remember correctly, the first time was when Kaladin is testing it and sticks a piece of clothing to a wall, and Sanderson is asked the following question: Based on this WoB we can conclude that Sanderson's opinion regarding Adhesion is closer to that of Khriss than to that of the Sibling. So, at least for the Windrunners, Adhesion allows them to create vacuums and increase pressure, this can be summed up in a single ability, the manipulation of fluids (more precisely gases), and this is something we know Skybreakers can't do, so it's an ability given by Adhesion. So... What about Dalinar? Dalinar can manipulate Adhesion on a spiritual level, and this is what gives said power the definition of "Surge of oaths and connections", but if we don't look, whenever we talk about maintaining the effects that leaves Dalinar, there is talk of hardening with Tension. But just as I propose above, Adhesion can manipulate atmospheric fluids, (aka gases). And what is Stormlight if not rather investiture in its gaseous form? That is my proposal for the functioning of Adhesion in Bondsmiths, they have the ability to manipulate the investiture and its interactions as if they were gases manifesting different levels of pressure. In addition, this gives meaning to many abilities that we have seen, such as the manifestation of Perpendicularity.

I found a couple of WoB's about it.
-
I think if it comes to anything, it would be the second option. There are a couple of facts that give us an idea of this: [Sunlit Man]
-
I'm hoping that during the trip to Kaladin he gets the urge to practice his flute and that's what triggers Szeth to want to talk to him. Since we've seen that the opposite doesn't work.

After the preview of chapter 23 was published, there has been a lot of talk about this character. And beyond the issue of his sexuality and the multiple opinions we have, I would like to put on the table the possibility that what we have seen actually leads us to a possible bond with an Ashspren and his integration into the order of Dustbringers. I am going to make a comparison with the WoB's that we have about the Dustbringers [1][2] and Rushu's entry into the Coppermind so that you can draw your own conclusions Coppermind WoB's Something I would also like to highlight is that in most of their appearances, there is something related to the rubies or the Flamespren (Platespren of the Dustbringers) In conclusion, I think there is a good chance that Rushu ̷i̷s̷ ̷t̷h̷e̷ ̷K̷a̷n̷d̷r̷a̷ ̷o̷f̷ ̷R̷o̷s̷h̷a̷r̷ joining the Dustbringers.
-
I want to revisit the Rushu theme from a different angle. Has anyone else thought that her interactions with the Flamespren are a foreshadowing of her becoming a Dustbringer? Reviewing his entry in the Coppermind, his personality and actions fit with the information we have regarding the members of said order.

Have they considered the whole Ghostblood issue to be a cover to cover up a withdrawal?

Navani's POV • I like how the Dahn and Nahn thing is being brought up again these days. • Navani Disney queen. • Wednesday! Now the GODspren thing is really being considered, that's scary. • I'm glad to see that Sibling at least isn't so intransigent as to not let them solve the fabrial thing by experimenting. • How to Train Your Flamespren, in all Silverlight cinema! • Regarding Rushu, remember that the Ardent are technically considered genderless in Vorin culture, so the Sibling's statement (who is unaware of that nuance and is more accustomed to the pre-betrayal culture) and Rushu's subsequent response is consistent with the present dialogue.

What would you see if you looked at the other Shards
Dofurion replied to Sythrin's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Sure, I agree with you, and Sanderson himself has told us that no Shard is purely "bad" or "good", and in WoB's he has given us contexts in which Preservation and Honor would have been the villains. Partly that is what I wanted to convey in the last two sentences where I wanted to show that he is capable of eliminating life if it gets in the way of his long-term plans. Although I differ a little in your definition since I get the feeling that he is more inclined to hunting, and the Cultivation Intent is not as active.- 12 replies

What would you see if you looked at the other Shards
Dofurion replied to Sythrin's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Honestly, I've always felt like the intents for Dominion and Devotion have been misinterpreted. When Brandon asked which MTG colors would correspond to Shards, he said Dominion was a [/] and Devotion was a [/]. And although this is not canon, it is a good starting point to know how Brandon envisions the way the Shards act. While I agree with the definition you propose, I think it is only half of the Intent of Dominion. The other half would fall into the range of self-control and creating systems. As for Devotion, it is generally attributed to a similar intention to 'Love' but I think it goes much further. I think it is about the strong feelings towards a single specific task, in terms of what concerns this publication: The dedication of a prince to his people (Raoden), the fascination of two linguist kids (Kaise and Daorn), the meticulousness of the farmer (Galladon) and the dedication of the mathematician (Aiden). As a note, the other character Sanderson has defined as [/] is Vin, so for me Devotion is like Vin, only with a slightly softer character (perhaps leaning towards maternal) but a million times more insistent in his goals and hobbies.- 12 replies

Ruin: Valor (Hypothesis): Honor: The weight of a king's crown protecting his people. The certainty of doing the right thing by following the law of a just people. The resolve of a pioneer to fight for a just society for his descendants. And the joy of a common man, knowing that the help he has given has been of some use. Cultivation: The intensity of a sculptor visualizing his work to begin. The concern of a shepherd trying to cure his sick cattle. The planning of a farmer to sow in the following season and his impassivity in getting rid of pests. If more occurs to me, I will update this post.- 12 replies

Ah ok, it's good to know those WoB's. So I'm going to assume that while the standard Vorin unit of measurement would be the equivalent of 10 inches (a hypothetical Jez), from there on any equivalent to an Ishi (100 inches) would be used. As a curious note, in the metric system there is also a way to measure with the body, and it is basically to extend both arms and measure from the tip of the index finger to the elbow of the next arm.
-
This is something I wanted to comment on, after all in Roshar the number 10 is very important, so it makes more sense that they would use a system more similar to metric.

Clarification: Although I have read the previews that have been published of the 5th book of Archive, all the arguments that I will use will not include information from them. Ok, so I really like all the ideas that come out of theorizing about what the fusion of the Shards' intentions would be like. Ever since the possibility was presented during the course of the Hero of Ages, it has been one of the juiciest topics we have worked with in the fandom. But there is something that has always grated on me about it. The repetitiveness that this entails. On a meta-narrative level, it makes no sense that during the events presented in Archive, the outcome involves the fusion of two Shards, we already saw that at the end of Era 1. While I don't rule out the possibility of it happening again (Maybe already entered into Era 4), I wouldn't expect it for the end of Sanderson's other main saga. In my opinion, it would border on lazy writing. Now I'm not blind to the fact that perhaps reunification and middle ground between intentions is one of the themes Sanderson wants to bring to the table, but as far as the Stormlight Archive is concerned I would expect him to use the story's own characteristics to express it. For example, one outcome that seems satisfactory to me is that somehow, peace is achieved between the Shards present in the Roshara system and that the Bondsmiths are used as a "bridge". Adding three more, one for each missing light, could be a good solution. Another viable option is the complete destruction of the shards in the system, but I see this as more unlikely since it may not seem like it, but we are running out of divine beings to play behind the scenes in Era 4. Anyway, I would like to see what you think about this and whether you agree or not with what I propose.

My problem with the Contest of Champions.
Dofurion replied to Slappyface's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think there is something fishy here. I don't think all the interactions between Humans and Singers were entirely violent, I mean there are the Horneaters and the Herdacians for a reason. Additionally we have the "dance" that the Fused and Hoid were in. -
Discord and Harmony - A big clue in Way of Kings

A quick note, Ettmetal is not an alloy but an element in itself. -
Considering the introduction of the concepts of Rock, Wind, and Night, there is something that made me look again at the image of this card on the Kickstarter. I would like us to take a look at how they are organized: ♤: Inkspren, Cryptic and Highspren. ◇: Cultivationspren, Honorspren and Mistspren. ♧: Peakspren, Reacher and Ashspren. These three groups share bodily characteristics that we can easily associate with these new entities: ♤ = Night ◇ ≈ Wind ♧ = Rock Obviously the type of Spren that is most out of place are the Cultivationspren in the Wind list, but I still think it is something to keep in mind.

Could there be a deeper strategy behind the 3 attacks?
