  1. Happy Birthday!

  2. My smartphone has actually saved me from getting toll violations. I take toll roads between my home and my university since I'd rather pay a few more bucks to avoid the eternal torment that is I-95, and in order to facilitate that, I have a Sunpass (Florida's RFID toll paying device). But the RFID chip isn't enough - you also have to list the license plates of the vehicles you've authorized to use the device in your account settings. I was stopped for lunch before hitting the toll road, but too far away from my apartment to justify going back (unless I'd been without a smartphone, of course), when I realized that I had forgotten to register my new 17S license plate with my Sunpass. I just whipped out my phone, logged on to their mobile site, and voila. Crisis averted. Also, anyone remember #alloyofline? That was brought to you by smartphones. That wouldn't have been possible via SMS Twitter, since you can only link one phone to a Twitter account that way and all five of the admins (at the time) were tweeting like crazy people from the main 17S account. Anyways, I have a Droid 3, and I adore it. Best phone I've ever had, by far.
  3. Yeah, I was a bit late in that regard. Warbreaker was just about to be published by the time I got into reading Brandon's stuff. At least I didn't have to wait for HoA, though, I guess. XD
  4. Last I heard, it was more like a summer release date. However, with AMoL coming out when it is, I think it's reasonable to believe that SA2 might be pushed back as well. Yes, Brandon is a prolific writer, but there's more to publishing than actually writing the book. There's the whole editing process to go through, typesetting, illustrations/cover art, publicity, actual manufacturing time, and book tours to be considered. Plus, you know. The fact that he's a human being and not a robot.
  5. Since this is a spoiler-free board, can you please put a spoiler warning on that link? Also, I'm pretty darn sure that Hemalurgy is in and of itself a meme now, at least on the forums.
  6. For me it wasn't long after I got into the fandom. I joined TWG, started IMing with Chaos, and somewhere in there I magically knew about the Cosmere. I don't even remember if I got a big reveal like I enjoy giving to people now, or if I was just slowly indoctrinated. I guess all these spikes are interfering with my memories.

    Award Quest

That's one I've actually considered making. I'm mainly concerned with having to track it, and also the criteria of what constitutes a "confirmed" theory (outright confirmation vs applied, etc), and whether writing your own individual theory thread vs contributing something new to existing theory discussions makes a difference. The potential gray area there is concerning, but that's definitely one on the "possible" list. Also, yes, there is a clue, but it's in the same place as the thing you get the award for doing, so it's not too terribly helpful.
  8. It's an idea, but I'm fine with leaving them in the main user profile for now. Especially since we've got bigger fish to fry at the moment. Also, congrats to Zas on being the second person to have ever beaten Chaos for the top rep spot!
  9. Hm, interesting. Thanks, guys! You've given me some neat things to think about. Anyone else? The more input I get, the better!

    Award Quest

This. There have also been instances when a random award was made just because one of the admins thought it needed an award. See: The Chef Award, The Perfect 20. Also, since the Awards system is, in fact, a work in progress, you'll have better luck suggesting good awards to us.
  11. So I'm in the process of working on a project, and I thought I'd turn to you guys for a bit of inspiration. Any input you can give would be a great help, so speak up! My question is this: When you think of the Cosmere as a whole, what image(s) come to mind? What ideas, concepts, visuals? Anything you can give me will be awesome, so thanks in advance!
  12. Hidden CSS files? Really, IPB? Really?

  13. No worries about the screen. It actually reminded me that I needed to fix that particular element, which turned out to be a much bigger pain than I thought it would. Anyways, it's all good now.
  14. Upvoted for putting up with crazy people. Also, you seriously need to tell us the full story of this encounter. Please.
  15. Hello, Sharders, and welcome to the first non-Around-the-Cosmere news post in I don't know how long! We've been busy at the Hemalurgic Experimentation Department of Shardlabs Incorporated, and I'm pleased to announce the latest additions to our army of spiked minions beloved staff: First on the list, Zas678 and Comatose will be joining the ranks of the 17th Shard Administrators! They've both gone above and beyond when it comes to making 17th Shard in its entirety a fantastic place to be, and I'm excited to see them join the ranks of those with the red-and-bolded usernames. They will, of course, retain membership in their current moderator groups as well. In addition, Kuri Shardweaver has been inducted into the ranks of the Steel Ministry as our newest Obligator! The watchful eyes of the Lord Ruler survey the workings of the RP and fanfiction sections of the community. And last, but certainly not least, MerryBerry has Returned! (Even though she didn't actually go anywhere.) She joins E. Hyde and, of course, admin Shivertongue as a Creator's Corner and Gallery moderator. Be sure and congratulate these great folks if you see them around the forums – and keep your eyes peeled for more announcements. We've got some great things in store for the site that I'm sure you're all going to love. That's all for this time. See you 'round the Cosmere!

  17. "I'm beginning to think you like anyone with a taste for adventure, Bix," Kiki said with a smirk, though she was frowning on the inside. Where was Esteban? At this rate, she would have to go drag him out of bed herself if they were going to get anything done. ... Actually, no, wait, that was a terrible idea. He might take it as an invitation. Maybe if she could channel something that would wake him...
  18. So I had an awesome time at Megacon! I wore my mistcoat for part of Friday and all of Saturday, but no one recognized me. :C Boo. I did, however, get some awesome dice! Funny story, I was randomly picking out a bunch of new D6es because I wanted to have enough of them to play the Mistborn Adventure Game without having to roll the same die ten times. So I was just going through this booth, picking out ones that looked cool, not paying attention to the number. Then, the other day, I decided to get my new dice out and count them. Guess how many dice I had? That's right. 16 of them.
  19. You should have screencapped it! I wanted to see. XD Also, dang. Thanks for all the upvotes, guys! O_O
  20. So, today I found I link to the Google Ads preferences page. Now, normally this wouldn't be that great. I don't pay attention to ads - in fact, I block them. So why would I care if Google caters its ads to me or not? And then I saw that it displays the information it's inferred about you based on the websites you've visited. And that's where the fun starts. You see, Google doesn't always know best. According to my browsing history, for example, I am a male aged 18-24 years who's interested in shopping, fashion, and costumes. The costume part makes sense, and it got my age right, but I'm still trying to figure out why it thinks I'm male. Maybe it's all those hours spent on TVTropes and Cracked, but that doesn't explain how it thinks my two biggest hobbies are shopping and fashion. So! Who does Google think YOU are?
  21. Um.... wow. Just wow. How does that even happen? Their names aren't even remotely similar!
  22. Got anything like that for flaws? I'm having trouble finding anything on them.
  23. They almost certainly wouldn't be natively encoded into the spiritweb of a person from Scadrial, at least. Even if their body could somehow recognize a flower as a burnable substance, the connection to Endowment just isn't there.

    Vin and Kelsier

Wow, I love the style and the colors in this! Great job!
  25. Congrats! That's awesome!
