  1. fyi, in the quote you did (quoting Jult), the IotE spoilers are visible, you should be able to fix that by editing your post. please fix that
  2. ah, yes. I was more answering the part where he said "he's just... Sending people to hell just because" which is partially answered by your answer, but I feel mine provides important context. I feel yours answers his questions well, I just wanted to add a little on that topic specifically.
  3. I'd say there are some pretty major and important differences, like the fact that the telestial kingdom largely replaces what most religions consider hell. To go to outer darkness (our seeming equivalent to traditional hell) you basically need to know God, feel the Spirit testify to you of him, and willingly reject him. These people are very rare. (I'm assuming you know this, but there are plenty of people that wouldn't.) The general "bad people" (ie, murderers, thieves, etc.) don't get sent all the way to outer darkness, they go to the telestial kingdom*. I will say that our creation doctrine (creation ex materia) makes the creation of imperfect people make a lot more sense. It's possible I'm wrong on some of this, or that it doesn't seem important to the conversation, but I think all of this is accurate. *There is a period of time where they suffer in basically a traditional hell, but it's not forever.
  4. yes. I believe it the method is to report your own post (you can do so by clicking the three dots in the top right of the post) and in the "reason for report" box, ask the mods to move it to the relevant forum (in this case, the cosmere discussion forum). You could also edit your original post to add in tags like "joke"
  5. true. I do think that generally, when it comes to how strong an opponent is, it's better to show and not tell, which is what applies here.
  6. yes, one of the major rules of storytelling is show, don't tell. This is done excellently in the prologue to WoK, with Szeth using crazy powers, not simply thinking about what powers he could use. I wish it had been done more with Yelig-nar (so little was done I forgot that he showed up) and with El in WaT (I thought him killing the Pursuer was good showing), but overall, I liked WaT.
  7. I have to say, we were just learning about deontology in my philosophy class, and I don't particularly like it. To me it seems selfish, strict, and sometimes contradictory.
  8. honestly, that would be based, so... nah. I don't think she'd leave him, even if she got corrupted/enlightened, but getting corrupted/enlightened would be a cool twist
  9. just you wait. my WOB instincts aren't finely tuned enough yet
  10. I'm either gonna fail my stats test because I didn't pay attention this whole unit or pass it because I just put the filled out notes packet into an AI and had it explain it to me, and it clicks from what I heard while not paying attention, and the little attention I did pay. Update will come tomorrow

AP stats? I took it last year, if you ever need notes packets or explanations I gotchu

it was just that I chose to talk to a friend instead of pay attention, when I do pay attention, I pick it up pretty quick. Also, I bombed at least the MC portion, I felt more confident about the FRQ though. Still not great tho

  11. *cough cough* don't you worry, the WOB is on your side this time
  12. yeah, they have time to experiment with it. I'm sure they could get a variety of data points, especially if they try on people actively burning metals and/or work with 17S or even the Ire. Kelsier would probably be good to see how effective Soothing/Rioting is on cognitive shadows.
  13. We've been over this. Also, assuming you didn't vote last year, you won't. I'll be 18 by November when elections are. for the record, I've read much of Arcanum, but not all of it. there's some fascinating jawn on there
  14. cool. I had a follow-up question, but Trusk answered it with a quote, so we're fine sweet, I had a follow-up, but the quote answered it, so we good
  15. So I was reading WOBs to answer some of my questions, and I ran across one (posted below) that says that Nightblood eventually turns to converting matter to Investiture if he doesn't have an easier way to get it. Extrapolating that, if he wasn't sheathed for long enough and consumed his wielder, if he wasn't sheathed for long enough, would he start eating the planet? If he consumed the planet, what would he consume next? If he ran out of things to consume, what would happen? Personally, I think he could destroy the planet until all that was left was his sheath (which he apparently can't consume for some reason?). Then, I have no idea what follows that.
  16. Brandon seems to have answered this in 2015 and 2018 with a RAFO this doesn't seem accurate to me. If it only stores your ability to use investiture, then it doesn't make sense for a Nicrosil metalmind be able to form a perpendicularity (piercing the Realms), which Brandon confirmed it could. It seems to me that you're thinking of Hemalurgic Nicrosil. I would love to hear any evidence you have for your claim that I might have missed though. edit: I found this WOB a little later that is the closest thing I saw to supporting your position, but I think it's pretty unclear exactly what F-Nicrosil does. it seems to say that they could store the abilities, but other WOBs seem to say you can store the Investiture itself, so it seems ambiguous to me.
  17. English 2010 is so boring. I now expect that my Shard usage will be going up :P

  18. you're older than me IRL Decrepit old lady
  19. I'm not certain on if I think it would be more or less of an effect than a regular person, I think it likely depends on the Herald and how much Stormlight they're carrying. I personally think that the trauma overcomes their enhanced resistance (from being heralds) but with extra investiture, it would become weaker and weaker. it might be scaling, but even so, I would expect diminishing returns, similar to how when you use feruchemy, 2 hours of double strength is not 1 hour of quadruple strength, it's about 45 minutes. some is lost in the compounding effect (kind of like diminishing returns). you're probably right about the plateau effect not applying here, but I could still see a world where it does.
  20. huh. I wasn't actually that involved in it, just a little. I talked about it occasionally, but not much. yeah, but I'm also the reason you're on the shard, so I can rub those two days in your face all I want.
  21. Bookwyrm is on a mission I miss Thaid. How am I supposed to do stupid things without someone to bounce my dumb ideas off and make them even more unitelligent? also, if we want old people, Xino is old. he might be the oldest person I've interacted with. (Joined before Ene, in fact) Him and Zephrun, who I PMed about TLT once, but not much beyond that. then there's Experience and Trutharchivist. more too. I barely interacted with fadran. I actually might not have, and just read some of his stuff. and I've been here longer than Eddie has.
  22. i'll take your word for it, as I don't have severe depression, I was just saying what I've heard. And I did say I expected that they would act, at least somewhat, but I still do expect some sort stunning effects. It probably won't be as strong as I originally anticipated. I don't think that scaling is accurate, I would expect diminishing returns, or at least a "plateau" system, where you need to get to a certain level before things manifest, similarly to Heightenings. But you're probably right, it will be weaker than I anticipated.
  23. I agree. What I'm saying is that he doesn't fight at all while insensate (except perhaps the dart, as previously mentioned, I don't recall that at all). Therefore, if the emotion blast is stunning to an even somewhat comparable degree (a huge "if", it's almost certainly not, though I do still think it is somewhat stunning), that would be the only chance I could think of. I think certain people probably would be literally paralyzed, if you've ever heard someone with really bad depression that manifests as apathy, it sounds like it can feel literally paralyzing. I don't have depression, but I do experience intense apathy from time to time, and the lack of desire to do anything is insane and hard to describe. Now, if I was in a life/death situation, it would likely be different, but I'm just using this as an example of real "paralysis" that is similar to an emotion blast. that said, this strategy is very much not guaranteed to work, I just think it is more likely to work than most strategies. even if it has a 1% chance of success, attacking the Herald head-on probably has less than that, which would make this a better strategy. Far from perfect, but it has a chance. I think there are a few amplifiers to consider when talking about emotional Allomancy vs heralds. 1) years of torture 2) levels of investiture personally, I think that years of torture that opened up cracks in their psyche that were so bad that in some cases they were known for something beforehand and are the exact opposite now (Kalak with decision/indecision) make it a higher chance of them getting stunned. There is an argument to be made from the opposite POV that they would be less susceptible, but I don't think it holds water. based on the Heralds holding out for much longer between the early desolations than the late ones, I think it's safe to say that the thousands of years of torture didn't build their mental fortitude, it weakened it. as for the levels of investiture, you're right. I will note that Brandon doesn't explicitly say that it's the Investiture that's causing it rather than an inherent property of Breaths specifically, but that's being nitpicky, and his meaning seems clear to me. The question then is if the investiture is enough to nullify the years of torture and the inherent strength of duralumin emotional Allomancy, and I'm not convinced it is. I think it could go either way. Full stop, if it's Taln that we're trying to kill, I think we already lost. I personally think that he would be largely immune to the stunning effects of emotion blasts (due to his proven mental fortitude) and his fighting prowess outmatches anyone in the cosmere. if it's basically any of the other heralds (with the exception of Nale and Kal who require a different strategy all together), I think it's a much better chance. I think emotion blasts would be the most effective on Chana, as she was tortured most recently besides Taln, but I don't think it would make a major difference. thinking about it, it could be that they have a loosely fixed location, but one that changed based on a variety of variables (rotation and revolution of both Roshar and Braize, among others), but that seems unlikely to me. I feel confident there's some sort of system, but not one that is easy (or even possible) to deduce without Shard-level intelligence.
  24. hmm. do you think it would stop them from being reborn, or just change where they're reborn. side note, do we know if they have a consistent spot they're reborn every time?
