  1. That seems an unfair framing to me. It seems to me that Aliroz's complaint is that the mentality in Stormlight is more on the side of "The ends justify the means" and "If someone wrongs me, I'm going to wrong them back, really hard, even if I wronged them first" (side note, I don't think that is the mentality in Stormlight, but that is the basis of many of his arguments IMO) as opposed to his interpretation of Mistborn which I'm not sure I understand, so I'm not going to put it here. @Aliroz-The-Confused, if I'm wrong about this, feel free to correct me.
  2. I'M GOING TO STATE BABYYYYYYY

or at least the state practices, I'll probably only be an alternate, if that, BUT STILL! I'M FREAKING HYPED AS CAN BE

She's at least going for relays.

I might make it as an alternate for relays (smallish chance), but there's a much smaller chance I make it individually as a swimmer for the 500. it's complicated, and I don't fully understand it, but I know for a fact that our coach put in my nomination, so at this point it's just a waiting game. I should know by Wednesday if I'm swimming the 500 at state.

In other words, if I don't make it, my high school swimming career is likely over on Wednesday. Say your prayers for me, heaven knows I need His help for this.

  3. Well, they do say that revenge is a dish best served cold you know, having my movies not in my hand doesn't sound to bad actually the second best revenge is probably giving their kids a drum set and guitar for christmas
  4. a warm pillow would be worse. But the true second best revenge is to ensure that anything they eat will always be cold. Soup? cold. Pizza? cold. fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies. COLD
  5. It's confirmed via WOB (as others have stated), but it can somewhat be derived from analyzing the books, especially retrospectively. We don't really see Horneaters with the Ashynites traveling to Roshar, and I figure they would be noticeable, as IIRC, they're pretty large and distinct. Add that to the fact they have different metabolisms, as evidenced by Rock, and it makes sense. Herdazians we see a lot less of, so that one is harder to know. And for the record, while WOBs are of a lesser canonical status, they are still canon (or pseudo-canon (as they sometimes contradict)). I understand you don't like that, and I understand your reasons for it (I believe, you might have more that I haven't read), but I would caution against ignoring them.
  6. Although, there are exceptions. It doesn't take much convincing from Kelsier to get Breeze and Ham to agree to take down TLR, it takes a little more for Clubs, but not much, and Yeden agrees at first. I'm sure there are others, but I'm still in my re-read to remember Mistborn better, so I can't recall things right now.
  7. My interpretation of the text wasn't that they left because of other people's actions, it was that they left because it was time to leave, because Cusicesh (or someone/thing above him). I'd be curious to hear why you see it the way you do. Side note, after looking into it to see if there was confirmation on exactly why they left (which I didn't find, other than the fact that Cusicesh told them it was time), it seems that they might have traveled to Scadrial and might even have been the cause of the chouta there (in the same way that general Rosharans/Ashynites would have caused it). That would mean that the general population of Roshar, those originating from Ashyn, might not have even traveled to Roshar as of TLM.
  8. I'm not sure that's accurate. I seem to recall that they have to ask Retribution for Warlight each day (or week or [insert time interval here]), which implies he could not provide it. I could definitely be wrong though.
  9. I would be interested in being a judge, though I worry my knowledge pales in comparison to someone like @alder24 or @Treamayne, making me hesitant to be one of the judges arguing for a player. I would also like to know what the review process looks like, ie, what amount of materials and/or Investiture would be allowed. Obviously a fight between a 5th Ideal KR and a Mistborn changes based on how much metal the Mistborn has and how much Light the KR has. Another thing to note is that with the advent of WAT, there isn't really Stormlight (although I have a theory about that), is that considered in these fights? There are workarounds (Venli's ability to Surgebind with Voidlight, Lift uses Lifelight (which might be slightly different now), and any KR can use Towerlight, etc.), but they each have their own restrictions. In other words, I think it would be good to establish a baseline ruleset, but that could be done after gauging interest.
  10. My guess (which is unsubstantiated, but makes sense to me) is that an Anti-Dawnshard couldn't exist. Dawnshards are Commands (IIRC), and it doesn't make sense to me that an anti-Command could exist.
  11. found one as they joined 💪

  12. huh. 2200 posts. it certainly doesn't feel like I've posted that much. I guess it has been 3 and 1/2 years 🤷‍♂️

  13. My point was that you said "My point is that there's no such thing as a book that is 'good enough'." I'm asking if that means that every book needs an adaptation, (because they're not good enough) and if every book deserves an adaptation. Note: they are two different questions, they can have different answers. Personally, I don't think every book deserves and adaptation, and I don't think every book needs one either. I also think that there such a thing as "good enough" for books (and movies), though, so it seems we disagree there.
  14. Does every book then deserve and adaptation? Does every book need an adaptation?
  15. a) I strongly disagree with that idea and b) there isn't a need for this adaptation, it's simply a want. Were the LotR books good enough as they were?
  16. I don't think a score of 0/7.5 is fair for economics/tech, I think it should be at least 1. They're not exactly in the best shape for tech, but they have things like the fourth bridge (which could arguably be put in a shock tactics category) and I don't recall if spanreeds still work. I would think so. They've also increased fabrial knowledge via Navani and the Sibling, and other scholars are presumably still working on them. If fabrials don't work right now (I thought they did, but am not confident at all) then the ranking is more justified, but I think that the scholars will be able to figure something out to get them to work. Also, did Cultivation's perpendicularity move when she left? I feel like so much investiture would stick around for a little bit (and the time bubble shenanigans might help that) so there might be another entry point to consider. However, the Peaks are also not an ideal place to enter.
  17. I looked at it, and judging by the reactions, some crap has happened since I left. But any time a character dies, it kinda hits. Probably more so if I had context
  18. to add on to what other people have said, they are somewhat canon, but of a lower status. In addition, WOBs have changed sides of support (I'm pretty sure) as Brandon thought something, then changed his mind. Generally, they're fairly consistent, but shouldn't be taken as law. the Lord of the Rings movies did that sort of camera work, with different sized sets, stunt doubles, forced perspective, etc. the primary actors for the hobbits were normal height. I'll take a look at it, what page is it on? although, I don't have the context, but I'll look anyway based but also, a year and a half is decent time, certainly not as long as almost a decade, but still.
  19. you're right, I guess I wasn't really considering that. I was mostly saying that the style of posts (to me) doesn't seem to have changed a lot, unlike in the example I gave. The topics certainly have, but it still feels like it's generally either "can this thing happen" or "what do you think would happen if 'x' happened". Not entirely, this is obviously a broad over-generalization, but that feels like the general trend. although, I pretty much only spent time in Cosmere Q&A/Discussion at the very beginning of my shard time (life? career? pastime? I have no idea) and now, closer to the end. I haven't been there too much.
  20. it wasn't very different, it was mostly just different people that I interacted with differently, so it's mostly my perception that changed. and this is, of course, primarily in TLT and other forum games things. The cosmere Q&A or cosmere discussion doesn't seem to have had much of, if any, culture shift. As an example of culture shift, TLT has shifted several times, even while I've been here (but I assume several more than even that). When I first joined, it was very chaotic, pretty much the game where you tell a story and each person says one sentence. Then, some plot got added, but it was still somewhat chaotic. Random crap happened. Then, it got much more plot heavy, with long, many-paragraphed posts (Thaid's post on page 2500 is a good example), then after Thaid left and some others joined, posts got shorter and happened much more frequently (I wasn't able to keep up, which is a major reason I don't post on TLT much anymore), and I'm sure there have been small changes since then. each "culture" is similar to the ones before and after it, and some are tangentially related to older "cultures", but some don't seem to connect at all. All that happened in 2-3 years, so while it can change a lot, I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. shhh. I like to pretend I'm a wise old man and people forget they can check when I joined
  21. I doubt the majority of people that watch the TV show will come here. The majority of people that read the books certainly don't. It would probably be more prevalent on discord, but I'm not that afraid of culture change. I don't think it would dramatically change the culture to add more people anyway, nor do I think it would necessarily be a bad thing. The culture changed from the time I joined to now, and while I miss the old culture, I don't dislike this one.
  22. there is potato chocolate milk? where do I find this, and is it actually good
