  1. Her eyes lit up as she found that breathing water felt like it normally did. She popped her head back up. "Oh, good. I was worried that wouldn't work."
  2. "I don't want to." She submerged herself further until just her eyes peeked out of the water. Experimentally, she took a breath.
  3. A bit of the expression left her face. "Maybe not. It doesn't really matter, though."
  4. She smiled. "That's alright. Though I do feel like some kind of mutant with these legs..."
  5. "Yeah, I guess so." She kicked her legs in the water again, getting a feel for it.
  6. "Hmm... I guess there are some toxic waters where I come from. But mostly it's safe. I mean, we breathe it. You all just breathe... nothing?" She took a deep breath of the air to demonstrate.
  7. "Dangerous?"
  8. "Do you even have water where you come from?"
  9. She cocked her head. "I figured we come from different places, not different times."
  10. "And I swam in. It wasn't in a mountain for me, it was in the Great Current."
  11. @InfiniteInsanity
  12. "The mountain?" She lowered herself further into the pool, but stopped with her shoulders above the water. Her long robe fanned out and drifted, revealing that it actually had two parts, first the robe itself in a deep teal, then dozens of strips and tendrils in all variety of bright colors connected at her neck. Both were made of a thin, flowy material that had apparently been somewhat stuck to itself while out of the water.
  13. "Like 5 to 10 minutes, I don't know."
  14. "Yeah, wait. We all used the same entrance, right? What if we all walked out at the same time? Where would we go?" As she spoke, she started slowly lowering herself into the water.
  15. She nods. "Where are you from? Is there anyone like that there?"
  16. "You people have a lot of words for me, but I've never heard them before. I'm just a person."
  17. Her frown got deeper. "Where I come from, everyone is like me. Or like I... like I was?" Her fearful air returned as she looked away stared into the water.
  18. She frowned. "I'm not a mutant! I'm normal. You all are weird, balancing on those things. And there's no water around, either! Except for this, I guess." She kicked her legs despondently, disrupting the surface of the pool. "It feels weird having nothing around me. And breathing, too. There's no resistance to it." One might get the impression the she was the talkative type. At least now she didn't seem quite as rattled as she had a moment ago.
  19. She shook her head as she was lowered into the pool. "What? No, I got these," she weakly kicked her legs in the water to demonstrate, "when I came in here. I used to have a tail? Like, for swimming?" She looked at Aria, hoping for some recognition of the concept.
  20. "Uh... hi. Yeah, I'm just not used to having legs." As she approached the pool, Aria could make out small golden patches that seemed to replace parts of her skin all over.
  21. A damp-looking woman entered the room shortly after her, walking with support from one of the staff and an old man. She looked somewhat rattled.
  22. "Will I still be able to breathe in water?"
