  1. He raised an eyebrow at her. "No. Not everyone wishes that. Some people grow up in stable families with loving parents." He began making his way to the room. "If you'll excuse me."
  2. "How can I trust that? I don't know who you are, or what this place is. The only thing I know is that Tacien chose to come here and he probably knows about it. But he's still a kid who doesn't necessarily know what's best for him."
  3. "I was told that I should stay here. That doesn't mean I trust you or this inn to do the right thing for my brother."
  4. "My name is Cufre. Where's his room?" Tacien, for some reason, seemed to be growing even more upset as time went on.
  5. "So then, why should I be keeping my brother here instead of just at home, if either place is risky?"
  6. "Good. And one more question... Why did you let a six-year-old into your inn with no supervision? I heard that there was a lot of potentially dangerous stuff going on."
  7. The brother carried Tacien, who was still sobbing into his shirt. "So, I was thinking. We may need to stay here. Apparently, our home isn't safe. There are... some people after my brother.
  8. "Nope. We have no idea why. But he has been able to draw like that... Well, pretty much since he could use a pencil."
  9. "Believe or not, we've tried things like that. It doesn't work. The most they get is an impression of his emotions."
  10. The brother looked down at Tacien, concerned. "He knows things. Lots of things, things he shouldn't know. But how could they use that?"
  11. "He can't answer you, you know that." Tacien stayed in his brother's arms. "No, it hasn't happened before. I don't know what that person wanted. Maybe they were just a petty thief."
  12. The attacker did not last very long in the flames, stumbling out and falling down the stairs with a horrible crash. They landed before the boy and his brother, unmoving. Tacien looked horrified, and immediately began sobbing into his brother's shirt.
  13. The person, face masked in black cloth, used the pull to swing past Klave, tugging away their leg and heading straight for the boy and his brother. The brother was now picking up Tacien again, who had apparently frozen upon sight on the masked figure.
  14. A dark-clothed figure swung out at Klave with a kick to the chest, intent on knocking him away.
