    "No." He closed the door.

    "It is none of your concern."

    The door was opened almost right away. It was the same old man, Lee Anders. "I do not appreciate being followed."

    As the woman had said, his house was the largest in the vicinity. It was old but not dilapidated, and sturdily built of dark wood with a stone-shingled roof. Curtains over the windows on both floors blocked the view inside. It wasn't grand, but it seemed that it could probably comfortably accommodate a large family or several house guests.

    "Hm. Well, do what you like. I won't stop you."

    "Scientific?" She looked at Réva with interest.
  8. The Aspiring Archivist
    "I don't know what kind of disguise you're looking for, but people may not want to help you if they know who you're looking for. And I wouldn't have the stomach to try subterfuge on Anders regardless."

    "Have you been asking many people about these two? Word will get around that you're here for Anders."

    "His name is Lee Anders. Lives in the large house on the south edge of the village." She gestured vaguely in that direction. "You can't miss it, it's the only one around there with two stories. I'd be careful of him, though, if I were you."

    She frowned. "I've never seen the younger before, but the old man is on the village council. A strange man, and unfriendly besides. I might believe what you say."

    Some shrugged and said they hadn't. Others gave her suspicious or uneasy looks, making excuses to hurry on or don't nothing at all. Finally, one woman nodded, pursing her lips. "Yes, they came this way. Why are you looking for trouble like that?"

    She eventually reached the village. There was no immediate sign of 17 or the maker, just some people milling around, going about their days.

    She eventually lost them, but while she followed them they seemed to be going in the direction of the nearby village.

    The path eventually let out of the cave, and the tracks vanished with the dust.

    They had headed toward the cave exit. Because she was far behind, Réva could not see or hear them at the moment.

    The two disappeared into the tunnels.

    They didn't answer, and the old man began pulling them away.

    They nodded slightly.

    "...Yes."

    They did not look at her.

    "You don't know them. And I have no reason to trust you with them."
