I think that this 'Cohesion Minions' is a very clever idea. Question though, would the Enlightened Stoneward be able to sense things through these puppets? Because then that opens up some subtle and interesting possbilities, like making a stone Cremling to scout ahead for you, and if you have a Lightweaver in your party, you might even be able to pull off a decoy ploy by making a copy of yourself or another, then having a Lightweaver apply an illusion to make it look like you or someone else. And actually, maybe an interesting thing you could do is have creatures that are native to the local area you're in be more effective constructs, due to the Stone 'remembering' them better and knowing how to act like them. Just a little ease of use and having you explore the local fauna for inspiration or something.

Maybe it has something to do with whatever mysterious thing Sazed did that Ed almost mentioned, some action that so far only he is the only living Shard to perform. Era 3 is going to have more about Trell (Autonomy) and have more on Sazed's slide from Harmony into Discord, however that pans out. Emberdark is before Mistborn Era 4, so whatever has happened to Autonomy, it'll likely have happened/will happen in Mistborn Era 3. Which will be out by the end of the decade. Provided that it is indeed related to Sazed, and not the result of some other book series that hasn't been written yet, which would be kind of weird since narratively, whatever is happening on Scadrial now concerns Autonomy since Autonomy is actively trying to destroy it, and as of Emberdark, Scadrial is still very much undestroyed and doesn't seem to have been taken over by Autonomy. And something about how Sazed will 'release' the Kandra might also tie into it, but again, no guarantees that there are any correlations.

Mixing and Matching Surges
JustQuestin2004 replied to TacoBellChoutaMeal's topic in Stormlight Archive
Actually, I once had an idea for an original Radiant Order, I called them the Bonebracers. They were meant to have the Surges of Progression and Tension, and unlike the usual use of Tension, they'd be able to use it directly upon their own bodies, allowing them to bend their own bones to give them extreme flexibility, as well as contracting their muscles to force them to exhibit much greater force, similar to the Tension Fused if on a lesser scale. Though if used in that way, they'd need to use Regrowth on themselves to boost their healing to keep up with the severe muscle tearing. -
Mixing and Matching Surges

The Cosmere is a big place, and Nightblood is just one sword, one that not many people know about or understand the significance of. I'd say that the absence of evidence does not mean he isn't around somewhere. -
Well, it's not as though old Kel has a very bad history with Empires or anything. Bad enough that he still holds some distaste towards the nobility of Elendel several centuries later. The Malwish Empire seems to treat conquest of the entire Cosmere as their birthright and have a long history of treating other people's that aren't as technologically advanced as them as 'barbarians', even other Scadrians. Kelsier wants his world protected from those who would try to destroy it or conquer it, but I like to think he would probably draw the line at doing the same thin to other worlds that can't even protect themselves and have done nothing to deserve it. Perhaps history has repeated, and Kel just might be the head of a new rebellion against the current rulers of his world? That'd be pretty cool, Era 1-esque but in the far future, with all sorts of new advancements for both the good guys and bad guys. All they need to do is continue the Trapper traditions, which is good because since the knowledge of how Aviars are given Talents was learned, Trappers had been quickly outdated, but now, they're vital to their people. I kind of wish that aspect was shown more instead of just being said, with Dusk meeting a Trapper or two who were out of work and blamed Dusk for it, with them at the end of the book now having their purpose back.

Mixing and Matching Surges
JustQuestin2004 replied to TacoBellChoutaMeal's topic in Stormlight Archive
I would take Abrasion and Cohesion, because you could pull off some crazy stunts. Slide across the ground and reshape it to give yourself ramps, turning the world into your own personal skatepark. Or slick yourself, soften the walls and slip straight through them, since Abrasion can let you move through liquids with ease. Or even do what Lift has shown is possible and increase the friction of the melted stone you control and wrap it around people to more easily bind them. Yeah, but the Honorblades are too rare and important for just anyone to use. Even more so after WaT. Technically speaking, a person can swear two sets of Oaths, we've kind of seen this with Shallan, but she's just a double Lightweaver. Would be very interesting in the Back Half if we got a main character who is trying to balance two sets of wildly differing oaths between two different Spren. Like trying to reconcile an Honorspren and Highspren, or going with a compassionate free spirit with a Cultivationspren and Lightspren. It'dbe super unlikely, since Spren don't seem to like sharing a Bond with a single human, but if both were willing it could happen. -
It's a common assumption, during Steris's evacuation of the Elendel ports, several people come to her and the mayor to offer aid in sinking some ships to help blunt the incoming tsunami. They ask about laws and fly, though they are assumed to be Coinshots. They may or may not be members of the Ghostbloods, but I highly doubt that they are Skybreakers for one very good reason. They are thought to be Skybreakers due to asking about the law, flying and helping sink several ships, which would fit the Skybreakers (Lawfulness, Gravitation and Division) They don't glow when flying, a real Skybreaker would glow when using their powers, but those guys didn't.

In a straight fair fight yes, we have a WOB that Kaladin would stomp Kelsier on the battlefield. Which is why Mistborn should never fight fair. Anyway, slightly off topic but when the Skybreaker was talking about how the Eelakin need to make a decision on who to give their loyalty to, did anyone else get Taravangian vibes from the way he was talking? Because on a re-read it really felt like that was something Taravangian would say.

In Chapter 25, there is reference to a Scadrian Control Panel, with writing specifically said to be from Northen Scadrial. So, they must still be around in some capacity and have advanced technologically. But that's the only reference to Northen Scadrial specifically in the book besides Pathism. I don't know what else we can infer from that, besides the fact that the Northen Scadrian writing language is still around and not been completely suppressed by the Malwish. It was said that Ed specifically worships a Scadrian, which would be Harmony, because no one this Cosmere aware would be dumb enough to fall for Autonomy's shenanigans. There's definitely something that's happened to them, they are going to be the main focus in Era 3 after all. so who knows? Though I have doubts that Kelsier would be very happy with the Malwish Empire, what with a long and terrible history with such things after all. Chrysalis also revealed that their Prime Minister was killed by Partisans and blamed the act on the Sleepless because they were there. So, it's definitely not all peaceful on Scadrial. What with Scadrian leaders being assassinated by other Scadrians, just like the old days. I've been partial to the idea that there simply isn't enough Harmonium being produced to supply an entire interstellar empire, especially to give to someone on a mission that is seen as a waste of time, lives and resources by Dajer's superiors, and especially when they're in a war with another interstellar empire. If Harmonium is produced in the same way as Atium, and we have little reason to believe otherwise, then that makes sense. Even a massive stockpile of Atium like the Trustwarren, built up over who knows how many years, didn't last long when being used by a small army of Seers. Makes sense, Autonomy is a direct enemy to all life on Scadrial, and her main stomping grounds is Taldain, so any Scadrians who are aware of both would have little reason to not hate Taldain. Very likely Taravangian's doing, one way or another. The way that Radiant talked really reminded me of how Taravangian goes on about the greater good and all that. It's pretty much been the main hub for most if not all Worldhoppers for centuries, if not millennia, with access to all sorts of technology and cultures mixing together like a melting pot for years and well before most worlds became publically Cosmere-Aware. I'd love to be their friend but hate to be their enemy. It's probably still difficult to get to with the Dor in the way, though with access to FTL it's probably a decent bit easier. Maybe Sel are nominal allies to Scadrial? Or at least the Ghostbloods? Kel did want to try to make allies there, but also with Dhartri and doesn't seem like Dhatri and Scadrial have the best relations these days. I also highly doubt that Sel is weak, AonDor alone that has been studied for centuries and having a modern science understanding behind it? Even now they're probably almost unassailable, so long as they have protections for the entire country to prevent the geography from being forcibly altered again that is. isolationist is more likely due to how the Selish Arts are limited, even if some Selish have found ways around that, I doubt said means are available to all of Sel.

Duralumin fueled pewter toughness and fall damage
JustQuestin2004 replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It'll vary depending on how much pewter they have to burn, is it just a regular vial's worth or have they filled their stomach like Wayne did with bendalloy at the end of TLM? Vin used a regular vial's worth with duralumin to completely cave in another Pewterarm's face without dying, though the effort did knock her out, so we kind of have a baseline. Actually, maybe we can math this out a bit with the physical multipliers of pewter by multiplying how far an average human can fall without hurting themselves. But the dangers of falling also depend on how one lands, landing on your head will be far worse than landing on your feet, so we'll just assume that this hypothetical Duralumin-Pewterarm is landing on their feet. Now first question: How far can a normal human fall without harming themselves? My web browser says about 5 meters. WOB states that an average Pewterarm can double their physical abilities when burning pewter, and triples when flaring. So that would mean that a pewter arm can handle a 10m fall when burning, and a 15m fall if flaring. Now for the tricky bit, how much of a multiplier is Duralumin? It uses up all metals "In an instant", but that instant seems to last for several seconds, so let's just say that if burned alongside a vial containing 10 minutes worth of continuous pewter burning, it'll use it up in about 3 seconds. That's 600 seconds compressed into roughly 3, so according to my very rough calculations that should be a 200-fold multiplier to a Pewterarm's physical abilities for about three seconds. So said Pewterarm should, theoretically and very briefly, be able to survive from a fall of about 1000 meters, provided that they time it really well and are falling straight down and not onto an incline. -
An intermediate age before the Space Age [DISCUSS]
JustQuestin2004 replied to Oltux72's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I mean, realistically, there really isn't a better option than the Malwish. They are now the rulers of the Southern Continent, they have access to Harmonium, which likely comes from Harmony's Perpendicularity, like how Atium came from Ruin's. They have the most advanced technology and understanding of Cosmere Realmatics, they have 'descendants' in Silverlight, which implies that generations of Southerners have been there and even lived there. The pieces all fit, I'm just saying. Oh yeah, that would make transportation a breeze, or even just Awakening the wheels of your carriage to spin when you want them to. No, Lifeless carriage pullers would be more Breath efficient. -
An intermediate age before the Space Age [DISCUSS]
JustQuestin2004 replied to Oltux72's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Because that's what Twinsoul said in TLM, that Scadrial's Perpendicularity is "far to the south and carefully controlled" in Chapter 50. As for the caravans, I'm pretty sure those are from Nalthis, they sell stuff like the painting given to the Returned in Hallandren. The Ghostbloods even call out the Nalthians as fools for trying to make trade through the Perpendicularity. Also in TLM. The Malwish probably just don't trade in the Rosharan Subastral, or atleast don't bring in their stealable tech to a world that has several Cosmere-aware groups, maybe because it's too risky due to a large population of sentient beings living in the Subastral that aren't terribly fond of humans, maybe because the Sovereign has some say in the Malwish's off-world policies and has told them not to go to Roshar in order to prevent any local Rosharans from learning much about Scadrians and perhaps linking them with the Ghostbloods that are there. Who knows? -
An intermediate age before the Space Age [DISCUSS]
JustQuestin2004 replied to Oltux72's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Chances are. we're already in that stage since before The Lost Metal, probably even before Era 2, we just haven't seen it. The Malwish both have had Airships and control over the Scadrian Perpendicularity for a long time, long enough for there to be Malwish Descendants in Silverlight, like Iyatil and her brother. It'd be even easier to use Airships in Shadesmar since there isn't any tangible weather to mess with their ships as they're lightened. -
Technology between Era 3 and Era 4
JustQuestin2004 replied to therunner's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Or perhaps that there is simply a limit as to how much Harmonium is produced at one time. There was a limit to Atium production back in Era 1, though that was mostly artifical due to the Lord Ruler's policies, afer who knows how long stockpiling Atium in the Trsutwarren it could all be burned away by a small army of Seers in a matter of hours. So maybe Harmonium is plentiful enough to keep the Malwish society afloat, maybe even enough to keep all of Scadrial afloat, but by this book, Scadrial is now host to an interstellar empire with a number of worlds under their control. There probably just isn't enough Harmonium to go around the entire empire, especially not for a mission that Dajer's superiors consider a waste of time. Edit: A reply to the guy above me: For the first bit, that never stopped the Set from sticking most of their most high-ranking members with 3-4 spikes each, with no mentioned protection against Harmony's tampering. (Edit: Besides the Trellium Spike preventing Hemalurgic Control I mean, and even then they didn't use that until after BoM, so there wasn't anything said that could stop Harmony from messing with their heads with just three spikes, ala Ruin, besides his own moral principles.) As for the second bit, government regulations on Hemalurgy is just common sense, especially for a military, you don't want any of your soldiers becoming AWOL serial killers hunting for powers as soon as they get the chance. In fact, it'd be best to keep all the intricate details on Hemalurgy private to impede said people. Just because everyone might know of Hemalurgy, doesn't mean they can use it well. -
I think that this isn't quite going to work, at least it not in a way that would make it worth it. Honorblades don't have as deep a Connection to their Wielders as a Bonded Shardblade does, if you drop an Honorblade, you lose the powers, you can't summon it back to your hand if you drop it like you can with a Shardblade. You can unsummon it and still use the powers, but that's as far as it goes. This is like asking "Could you spike someone wearing a Feruchemical Medallion?", like sure, there probably is a way to do so, but why would you do that when you can just take the Medallion and use its powers for yourself, no soul splicing needed. I'd like to once again, say one thing on this subject: Full-Auto Spike-Guns, who needs pinpoint accuracy when you can just tear their soul apart through sheer quantity, so long as you don't care to actually steal anything from your target that is. Can't get much more dead than having your soul turned into Swiss cheese. Wait, Switzerland doesn't exist on Scadrial, so I wonder what would they call cheese with holes in it? I guess it depends on who makes it.

Isles of the Emberdark Full Reactions
JustQuestin2004 replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I've finally read the book, after about a week or two of practically pretending that I did. I loved it, I loved the characters, the setting, the ending, the lore, the future implications, all of it. I hope we get to see more of Dusk and Starling at some point, maybe in Mistborn Era 4. So much implied stuff for later books, like Sazed pulling off something that no other Shard has, everything about Starling's backstory and how Nazh died, whatever the heck is going on with Frost, Khriss is back on Taldain (With some of Autonomy's territories being considered 'Old', so maybe she's had to downsize her plans?), Vaxillians, the Grand Apparatus which sounds almost like Aperture Science on a global scale with the shifting rooms and experiments and what not, and so much more. The Malwish Empire doesn't seem to bode well for Era 3, but it's stated to be a dominant power on Scadrial, not the, so I'm holding out hope that my favorite world hasn't gone full Star Wars Empire level bad. Or at least some kind of Anti-Malwish Scadrian resistance groups. Dusk's journey was definitely the highlight of the book, not to say that I didn't enjoy what Starling was doing, but a mere jailbreak plot tends to pale compared to a plucky adventurer uncovering ancient world changing lore and taming a giant god-snake. Oh yeah and the fact that the Silverlight Nexus leads to three different planets somehow?! With one of them being Yolen! So many mor secrets to learn, Kelsier is proven more right with every book. -
[Discuss] Crystal Hemalurgy!
JustQuestin2004 replied to KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I doubt that anyone consciously created this. It's like how some abilities have popped up across the Cosmere, Lightweaving, Seeking, Copperclouds, they all have different variants across different worlds. This is likely just a variant of Hemalurgy, created at the same time as Hemalurgy itself. Each Invested Art is said, as per WOB, to be like new physics introduced into the Cosmere. They become new rules and paths for Investiture to be channeled through. Maye Battar just found out about Hemalurgy, maybe with off-world contacts, and began to study it. Actually, purely chronologically, Ishar is the first person we've seen use it, when Szeth was younger and back in Shinovar, Ishar used Crystal Spikes to pin Spren to walls. So Battar could have picked it up from Ishar. Who himself could have learned it through... I dunno... some kind of Bondsmith experiments or something? He was full on plum loco by that point so it's hard to know what was going through his head when he started pinning spren to walls and giving them fleshy bodies. -
[Discuss] Crystal Hemalurgy!
JustQuestin2004 replied to KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Just a quick note, Taravangian/Retribution was not the one who discovered the Crystal Spikes, the Herald Battar was. Taravangian specifically sought her out both because she's a bribable Herald and because she knew how to use the Crystal Spikes. -
Technology between Era 3 and Era 4
JustQuestin2004 replied to therunner's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Maybe, but unlike Arelon their Invested people aren't bound by geography, which means Elendel (or whatever is around) doesn't have to stay stuck on the defensive like Arelon might. I could easily see hidden resistance groups being funded by those that oppose the Malwish, kind of like the thieving crews in Era 1, only much more high tech and more like disposable, black ops espionage mercenaries or something. Constant cloak and dagger shenanigans that the Malwish Empire would prefer to keep under wraps to off-worlders so people don't see weakness. -
That's an interesting idea. Perhaps in Era 3, Trell will mess with the Southern Scadrians, breaking their faith in the Soveriegn by revealing him to be one of the 'Northern Barbarians', and messing with their faith in the Jaggenmire by either associating it with Harmony and revealing Harmony's role in unintentionally causing the Ice Death, or by co-opting their religion and trying to take the Jaggenmire's place or something. After all, the Southern Scadrians advanced technology is what spurred Bavadin into trying to destroy Scadrial in the first place, but if you can't beat them, manipulate them into worshipping you and despising everyone else.

The Night Brigade's Endgame
JustQuestin2004 replied to TacoBellChoutaMeal's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Funny enough, I only just had that exact thought yesterday, and I felt like an idiot for not figuring it out earlier. The Evil is still on Threnody as per Nomad, the Night Brigade are Threnodites who want a Dawnshard, and their Admiral is confirmed via WOB to be the protagonist of the unpublished Threnody novel we may never get, the one about Threnodites trying to take the Homeland back from the Evil. Of course they want a Dawnshard, it might not even be to destroy the Evil, the Intent of Exist probably won't allow that. But here's a theory, maybe they could use it to massively amplify whatever methods are allowing them to control the Shades and attempt to control the Evil itself. It's obviously quite powerful, literally chasing an entire civilization right off an entire continent, and is said to be 'Mountain Sized', so it must be heavily invested and very powerful, it's very likely to be a Splinter of Ambition, a powerful one perhaps on the level of the Stormfather himself. Such power in their hands would make them even more fearsome, perhaps giving them an edge in galactic politics. After all, Threnody doesn't have a Shard backing them like other worlds do, but perhaps with a Dawnshard they can get the next best thing. -
I am so sure that I've read a WOB somewhere stating that a Singer could just take a dip in a perpendicularity to change Forms, but I don't know where it is. But I'm pretty sure that all a Singer need to change forms is the Spren and a large amount of Investiture around them, like the Highstorm, but that doesn't mean that it exclusively needs to be the Highstorm only.

Technology between Era 3 and Era 4
JustQuestin2004 replied to therunner's topic in Cosmere Discussion
There's a WOB stating that how F-Gold works is that it 'shifts' your Physical self to match your Spiritual ideal, which is filtered through your Cognitive self-perception. So it's not quite like normal bogstandard healing, it's still magical in nature like Stormlight healing. -
Technology between Era 3 and Era 4
JustQuestin2004 replied to therunner's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Enough Feruchemical Gold lets you heal a shotgun to the face. Although it can't heal aluminum, so perhaps vaporised aluminum can be used as an anti-Invested gas weapon? If someone breathed in superheated aluminum particles, it could cause unhealable damage to the lungs and throat, and if the aluminum seared into the flesh it'd become practically unremovable.
