  1. There’s also this weird change in font in Fort’s communication which might be meant to highlight his anxiety but doesn’t seem to mesh with how the tablet works. Could be the second bit he didnt type out but the predictive capabilities of the tablet conveyed his thoughts anyways.
  2. The implication I got from that is that there is no Shard specifically called Wisdom but the Intent is adjacent to that concept and that shard was the Survival shard but no longer would be considered as such since it’s priorities have shifted. Desires can change over time like how Brandon describes the Wisdom/Prudence shard hence my use of the word “still”.
  3. Why can’t a Command also grant a surge? A surge requiring one shouldn’t preclude that. Also the quote states the Dawnshards created all things which taken at face value means they also created the original pre shattering surges.
  4. I don’t think it’s accurate to say it still has the sole desire of surviving. Again I don’t think the Survival shard is Virtuosity. The Survival shard hasn’t splintered itself. Wisdom was described as the Survival shard in earlier Eras of the cosmere when that was its priority but that is no longer the case in later Eras. Saying that Wisdom realized survival might not be the most important thing doesn’t mean its doesn’t want to just that its willing to risk itself to achieve other goals.
  5. I’m not refusing. I’m just taking everything said at only facevalue instead of drawing more inference or extrapolating. We haven’t seen enough of Dawnshards to know if Rysn is the norm or an outlier or if Dawnshards do grant access to more Investiture or Surges on their own that she just can’t utilize for whatever reason at the moment.
  6. Not if they are the same. The way the question is phrased and Brandon’s answer to it implies that Wisdom/Prudence at one point did prioritize survival.
  7. I’m not saying Virtuosity is the Survival shard so it having multiple planets has no bearing on my points. But you are correct that Invention could be the Survival shard instead but Brandon still implies that Virtuosity and Wisdom are different in the last WOB posted.
  8. Well he RAFOed that second one too late since he says it over time lessened its priority on survival which implies it was the survival shard regardless of the RAFO. And if you think the first WOB says nothing then you should probably not use it multiple times yourself when trying to argue against Wisdom = Survival. But also The Survival shard “knows what’s going on and is smart enough to get out of there” implies Wisdom. As well as He talks about the other one which he hasn’t revealed but that we generally know the intent of implied to be Wisdom being different from Virtuosity.
  9. Multiple WoBs imply that it was but that it has since changed its priorities.
  10. We don’t know. The book just states it’s beyond her capacity but doesn’t state why. Only inferences can be made and a lot have on top of extrapolating them to hypothetical people that aren’t Rysn without much support. A Command on its own can’t but it’s not on it own in this case. It has a wielder. It’s like asking how can a Shard do anything if it’s just a powerful Intent.
  11. I assume with Shai the jar of Dor allowed for the Essence Mark Soulforging and drawing of the Basin variant Rao Aon but after that her Aon usage actually drew on the Mists which begs the question is what she did no longer considered AonDor but AonMist?
  12. That WoB specifies that as Unmade they “count” as being native to Roshar. I take that to mean they were Unmade on Roshar but prior to being Unmade they could be native from elsewhere. It is possible that Khriss knew about Foil/Xisis being on Lumar before people on Lumar did since the mention of Xisis being known to occupy that area comes from a Lumaran source rather than Hoid which could skew the gap to be longer but I do feel that his presence their becoming more widely known is tied to the Iriali leaving, otherwise I doubt Sanderson would use the same general timeframe for the both.
  13. It’s implied that Riina had her own version of the Aon Rao similar to what we see Shai have to do in TLM meaning her island probably acted like her own little Elantris. We also seem to now be in the Era where keyed Investiture no longer creates too much an obstacle for switching between different systems.
  14. I don't think the "Wisdom" shard is Virtuosity. The WOB about the "Wisdom" doesn't imply that it splintered itself to me. "Wisdom" being hiding in order to survive (implying that "Wisdom" and the "Survival" shard are the same) but no considers hiding a poor course of action and will now be taking a bigger role on the cosmere stage of thing is how I've interpreted all the various WOB's about "Wisdom/Prudence/Survival". It's too much of a leap to think no longer prioritizing just survival means committing suicide/Splintering rather than just willing to put itself in danger to achieve some other goal.
  15. Regarding Aux's name, I agree that it doesn't sound like an Honorspren name compared to a Cryptic or Inkspren but we don't know if Aux is actually the spren's real name. Sig is going by an alias so why not his spren as well?
  16. Cursed to versed by itself still seems like too big a jump. Like maybe tweak how Tress was to be cursed to being subjected to bad poetry or sworn at. But I feel "curse" still needs to be integral to how Charlie's is broken while just the auxiliary Aons can be modified to change the analog to case, tense, prepositions, direction, scale, etc.
  17. Hoid's curse seemed to only require him returning to the tower to break and complete the "Shaod" and he let her curse him if it would allow him to become an Elantrian with the Sorceress foolishly thinking Hoid wouldn't be able to manage. Charlie's curse would be broken if he brought Tress (his true love) to the Sorceress's home to also be cursed. Hoid was able to edit the curse to be fulfilled if Charlie brought Tress back to her own home to be "versed" (he wrote poetry for her). I can see the edit for where Tress needs to be taken working but the cursed to versed doesn't seem to fit with the logogrammic nature of Aons.
  18. Enjoyed it. Generally thought Hoid's voice worked well; liked it more than the other cloudcuckoolander characters we have. There were some jarring sentences or paragraphs but otherwise the prose and wordplay was good. Sure there is the issue with how the story is being transmitted/translated and some words that might not mesh well but Sanderson is not a philologist like Tolkien and I don't see him hiring one on just to create cosmere conlangs which is really the only good solution I see for this. The illustrations were amazing but severely disappointed there was no map (assumedly might be because there was no Ars Arcanum and the maps are usually in universe being acquired by Nazh). I was also generally disappointed in Hoid handwaving the mechanics of being turned into an Elantrian (but god is that overpowered for bolstering a potential armed force) nor did I specifically like how Hoid edited Charlie's curse as it seemed to treat Aons more like letters rather than logograms. The story introduced a lot of new great questions and theories though. Is Design the "monster" in the drawer due to Hoid's curse acting like the Shaod would to Seons? Is the Bone spore related to Sandmastery or Autonomy? Are ten of the Aethers (assumedly barring Midnight and it's AoN counterpart which were seen as on a different level) analogous to the Ten Essences? What are the Crimson spikes made of? Is it blood? Was Re-Shephir an Aether or Aetherbound before being Unmade by Odium? Are Xisis's boons related to Cultivation's, by way of the Nightwatcher, Old Magic boons (both are from dragons, both come with a price)? Is Xisis Foil and what does that mean for the timeline, especially in regards to the Iriali assuming the Ars Arcanum for each series is written generally around the time the series is happening? Is Ulaam part of the 17th Shard (seemed very reluctant to interfere in things but just happened to be bad at holding to that)? What was up with Riina's reptile man servant? Who is taller, Fort or Rock? How exactly does gravity work on the Lumar system? What does naval warfare look like on the other seas? Is Death with nails in his eyes actually Marsh or could there be another Steel Inquisitor running around causing the phrase to spread more than people like Khriss would assume? Did Riina or the Ire (if she is even still part of them) have an ultimate purpose on the planet?
  19. I think the way Hoid edited Charlie's curse is the weakest part of the novel (beyond Hoid handwaving the actual mechanics of becoming an Elantrian). It seemed to treat Aons more like letter rather than the logograms they are. Currently I am glossing over this by leaning into the fairytale narrative aspect of the story but I hope to see better instances of this in the future with more focus on the mechanics of it.
  20. It actually doesn't explicitly state that but anyways:
  21. Possibly the same Investiture source the Aether spores have to tap into to facilitate their rapid growth. But we do know the Ire have the ability to pipe Dor across the Cognitive Realm.
  22. If 3 were correct then all the moons would be "Thanasmia's own moon" which kinda renders the phrase useless. It's an odd way to phrase it if it is 1, so I assume it is 2 or something close to that.
  23. The WOB posted also shows he considered silver for the "internal pulling enhancement" which ultimately ended up being aluminum.
  24. But it does imply that at least for spore eater reactions it doesn't consume the water which could then be extrapolated to non spore eater aether spore reactions. I'm basically on your side of this argument. I do wonder if even if non spore eater aether reactions did water the moon aether is the rainfall too sporadic to be enough? But also if the aethers were solely dependent on spore eaters for water I feel they would be more prevalent although it could just be because Tress is rather sheltered.
