  1. I chose to ignore monetary cost and assume that it is just the "best metal to burn". I picked Cerrobend or bendalloy because being able to spend more time doing something that you want to be doing, or finishing something important, or getting your thoughts organized before an important meeting.
  2. I, originally thought it was probably some gold in his stomach from compounding and he burned it away. This is the most logical idea... Part of me also likes to toy with the idea of him being a gold savant causes him to have gold seep into everywhere. I envision trace amounts of gold in his blood, kidneys and liver and it is a part of him, so it doesn't cause health detriments, but similar to how an endurance athlete starts drawing on energy from weird places at the end of a marathon, Miles starts drawing on gold from weird places during the end. It also happens to look really creepy.
  3. \I still wonder if it is not going to be rain on this planet, or if there is, it is going to be a weird, or very rare. I am contemplating a couple options. 1) underground water supplied by geysers or something similar. 2) glaciers, which are mined for water and transported to islands. Water comes from a "deep aquifer" on Diggins point. What if it is the same everywhere? Although, suppose it does rain, that violent agitation of the spores could cause the ocean currents, like a domino effect... Ok, here is my other thought. 1) That is much weaker, depending on the sun's size, I guess. So, we need something else. So... 2) The color of the spores should create some really weird convection currents, that, I think, would override the tides. So we end up with really weird ocean currents that are affected by light from a far off sun being absorbed by different colored dead and alive spores!
  4. Welcome! Which book is your favorite?
  5. Clouds also contribute significantly to albedo... That means a positive feedback loop. But, also, do we know if it even rains? That would be highly dangerous. I suppose the clouds could be made of spores or the moons could act as clouds do by reflecting sunlight. Water has a really high heat capacity. If the spore-fluid is not water, we could be looking at hot fluids, which might behave oddly. Tide This dry ocean also, shouldn't have a tide if all of the moons are stationary. So is the different colors of spores and convection currents that are causing this to behave more like a fluid ocean and less like a sand pit?
  6. Book 4 looks like an what I expect Aethers to look like. The 4th story is the one that Brandon did for himself, which makes me think that it has to be something that is involved with his original picture of the cosmere, but not necessary for everything else. If it takes place on Yolen, that would be awesome, but I don't think it is Dragonsteel. Dragonsteel was never planned to get cut. This is something about the deeper backstory of the cosmere, I think. Aethers on somewhere (maybe Yolen... Hopefully Yolen) fits. I think that if Brandon was doing a book on Ashyn, it would be way more work. It is close to Roshar and there would be all sorts of cannon stuff that he would need Karen for. Book 3 looks like... I don't know... I think about Aethers for that one too. Maybe I just only think about Aethers. That one is really mysterious. I am very confident that that one will be a brand new system. Book 2 needs to be about interdimensional travel. There are tonnes of globes with the same depictions of our planet. We know this has to be sci-fi, then. It is not "middle grade", which means it could be the connecting piece between reckoners and Cytonic, or it could be another book in that potentially connected sci-fi universe. Book 1 ( minor book 1 secret project spoilers)
  7. I agree with cometary orbit. This seems to imply that Frost is, in appearance at least, working with the Seventeenth Shard. I think the simplest explanation is probably correct here. The Seventeenth Shard, like Frost, do not interfere because they think it is bad, like climate change or war. I don't think that this means that they don't interfere a little bit, if they think it is necessary. But, they probably, mostly, stick to themselves and try to study the cosmere. However, I like this line of thought because it does seem probable that the Seventeenth Shard would have access to investiture and Frost likely trusts them. I cannot help but think about how the second generation kandra refusing to believe that they needed to obey the first contract and instead trying to live on and pretend nothing had happened. I think it is feasible that there might be less loyal members of the Shard with nefarious intentions.
  8. I think that Nameless means that the Parshendi are the far off descendants of this group of Singers who rebelled against and left the Fused. I completely agree with the point Nameless made in that it was because the Parshendi knew that the return of their gods would mean death and destruction. The primary reason is that the Parshendi have this cultural fear. It would be similar to someone coming up to you and asking if you wanted an evil talisman of power: "sure you will go straight to hell/ [insert religious damnation here], but you will be so much more powerful." Even the Listeners who didn't believe would still pause because there is a certain power to a cultural taboo. Ultimately, Gavilar died because he misread the situation and thought that the Parshendi would be power hungry enough to accept his offer. This is a great question, though because I think everyone is a little confused and we are supposed to be. This seems to also be combined with some serious behind the scenes string pulling with Ulim and Nale and maybe Thaidakar or even greater powers. Gavilar's death is very complicated, I think.
  9. So... A lot of people hope that Vax is one of the places of future development after this recent reveal. Don't read further if you don't want to be spoiled (I think this is unlikely due to this being the second page) Timeline for the creation of these books is 2020-2022... And, out of the blue in 2021 (July 17th 2021 at JordanCon), I think, Brandon confirms the location of Vax on the Cosmere star chart! I don't think that was a coincidence. I think that he must have been thinking about Vax already because of the secret projects. Occam's razor would imply an Aether book, but it, at very least, implies an Aether tangential book.
  10. For the first part, I would make an educated guess that the answer is yes. The second question is harder to pinpoint. If there already was a spren bond, there might be more to store... If there was a bond forming... I don't know.
  11. I would guess that it is not required. It is more of a hunch. Ettmetal seems to provide airships with power. The power comes from investiture. (wave hands in an inarticulate gesture because I didn't really give it any more thought but I think it will likely be used as an alternative to spending years storing investiture through feruchemy)
  12. So, Nicrosil can pierce the realms, but I am guessing it would take massive amounts of investiture and therefore massive amounts of Ettmetal. So, Scadrians will be a step behind and be using less efficient methods to reach the cognitive realm, most likely. Using Nicrosil sounds really cool, but I would imagine there are better methods and if Scadrial wants to engage in the cognitive realm, they would likely import other tech from other planets.
  13. Same, but I would retire on Vax. I would also need to visit Scadrial and figure out how to become a feruchemist so I could spend the rest of my days feeling like I have a cold because I am storing health. And feeling ice cold because or storing heat. Also, talk to Vasher and learn all of his secrets Also, talk to the IRE and learn all of their secrets Then publish some articles on the nature of the cosmere.
  14. I agree. I have always thought of increased Connection as being like an electric field, but with only attraction (if that makes any sense). I never thought about this, but I think that would be really cool! The Malwish could have been using specific types of Duralumin metalminds to speak with people in their language, while someone else could have used it to say write in the native language, or maybe just make you fit in in a crowd, or let you form investiture bonds.
  15. Fair enough, but the IRE have the only in-cognitive-realm communication and more knowledge on much more, I would think. It doesn't. It could, however, mean that they are far more advanced. Just because they are not a military force does not mean that they don't have military capabilities or weapons. A Roman Legion would still probably lose to heavy artillery. This is indisputably true. I do not think that we can assume that the IRE and Sel can be used interchangeably. I still think the IRE will be treated like Switzerland was in the World Wars. Both sides will use them to their advantage, but because they are based in the cognitive realm, the Rosharans will know that they will get more benefits from trading with them. Yeah, I agree. How do you think the Ghostbloods fit in, though? They seem to be a major wildcard. And I honestly have trouble fitting them into the picture. Do they count as Scadrian? Their goal is to protect it, but they have a whole bunch of other stuff going on. Yeah, that is what I am thinking. The Scadrians would be limited to their perpendicularity(ies).
  16. Cut off Rosharan supply to Light, and they are just regular humans with swords that can cut stone... Cut off the IRE supply of Dor, and they are just regular humans with far more experience and knowledge of Shadesmar. I think that the IRE are a lot more canny than we might be inclined to believe based on how easily Kelsier dealt with them. Kelsier is a weird case that took them by surprise and he is also very very experienced with tricking people. The IRE are have been around since Kelsier's time, at least, so they have been experimenting with the cognitive realm for 300 years since we last saw them AND they are likely very aware of their dependence on the Dor, so they will have ways to protect themselves and should have failsafes in place. But, again, I don't think that the IRE are going to actually fight. I think that they are more likely to try to benefit from both sides of the conflict. They don't really have any reason to fight the Rosharans and this new Odium is likely aware that getting into a fight with the IRE really wouldn't benefit him. The types of help they could offer without being conquered (immediately), would outweigh any uncertainty about them, I think.
  17. This does sound very much like Preservation (AKA Fuzz) commanded Kelsier to do this. Warbreaker Spoilers The intent was for Kelsier to Survive (with some other thoughts included as well). the survive command from Preservation probably gave allomancy as a side effect.
  18. I have been wondering about this too. If we could find some other pieces of foreshadowing, it would not come out of nowhere. 1) -1. Gavilar grows angry with Navani and they snap at each other --Odium's influence 1) -2. Jofwu's point about Gavilar being way too calm as he is dying and giving Szeth a to-do list. 1) -3. Thematically, people have really started to hate Gavilar and we need some way to get an explanation of what Gavilar was doing. (Jofwu makes this point as well, I think). The other option here is that Kalak explains what is going on, but I don't think he knows all of it. 3.2. I agree so wholeheartedly with Jofwu that there is so much depth to Gavilar's character, that if he did survive as a cognitive shadow, it would be so incredible for the audience to enjoy. 3.3 Brandon said that Gavilar would approve of a lot of Dalinar's actions, but would have wanted him to be more ambitious. This seems to imply that Brandon has thought about what Gavilar would think and do. This could mean that he is not done with Gavilar. 1) -4. Pseudo-foreshadowing could include lots of things. For example, Gavilar doesn't know what would happen if there was negative investiture to close to him when he died, so he needed Szeth to take that sphere from him... Some flashbacks to Gavilar trying to use his Connection to Elhokar to influence him. These weird visions just cause Elhokar to be paranoid. I agree with Ixthos's earlier post about it being a lose-lose. If Dalinar kills Gavilar and breaks an oath, that could be just as dangerous as him actually losing. On another note: I want this theory to be right, but the biggest problem that I have with it is the fact that Jasnah hasn't figured it out. She has had time and monetary resources. She is smart and resourceful. She has access to Shadesmar and is a Knight Radiant. She has both interest and the ability to obsessively focus on a task. If we consider the fact that Jasnah already knows, that raises more problems then it answers. We need to assume that she doesn't know, but how...
  19. So, is this a sign that Rayse is losing control of Odium, or that Rayse is kind of losing his temper and just doing whatever possible to get a good champion. Because, tactically, it seems like a very questionable move.
  20. The FTL for Roshar is far more Shadesmar/ cognitive based. Their future FTL in the physical realm (if it were based on their current FTL) would have to involve building giant Oathgates with massive spren guarding them on different worlds. In this case, Roshar would certainly have to have some cognitive control. This would also mean that they would have to, to an extent compete against the IRE. I do agree that Roshar is going to, most likely, be stronger than Scadrial in the cognitive realm. But, in order for Roshar to be dominant, they will have to out compete the IRE. Or, more likely, strike a deal with the IRE. I think that the IRE could be quite formidable, but I also feel like they have more of a peaceful, but our merchants will rob you blind sort of vibe.
  21. I tried to quote Trusk'our's question about spren tapping and storing in metal minds (it did not work)... If Wandering Shade is correct, I have a follow up question. Could you store a spren in a investiture metalmind? We know that you can steal a Nahel bond with Hemalurgy, but the spren could just end the bond and rebond the original person (this is paraphrased from a WoB). Could someone bonded to a spren store that spren in a metalmind? If they can do that, is this a sinister way to trap a spren? Or is this a clever way that someone might try to use to get their spren offworld (in this case there would probably be "more work involved")? Could it be used for both?
  22. Yeah, I think that using kandra as organ donors would be amazing. If Scadrial ever got to the point where they had the technology to do transplants, the kandra would be able to make organs that were a perfect match and then eat some more corpses to regenerate mass. The primary problem, I think, would be that the kandra would need to either anticipate the actions the human wants to take or it would need to find a way to hook it's self up to the human nerve system. I think that even the most skilled kandra would have difficulty either knowing its subject that well, or manipulating its body that well. I could see it working with some major limitations, like the person would need to believe that they are in shock and cannot feel their legs, or they are significantly intoxicated. I would think that it would only have very niche applications, compared to the normal method of replacing the subject.
  23. Hmmm... Suppose the Fullborn has no metal and the Radiant has no Stormlight, who would win?
  24. In general, I'd say the Fullborn wins in most circumstances, except against a Bondsmith. I don't know how powerful Bondsmith's are, but the first thing that comes to mind is the Bondsmith connecting the Fullborn to the ground and the Fullborn Feruchemically healing the ground... If a Soulcasting Radiant catches the Fullborn off guard maybe he can be killed. I think surprise would be key. (Assuming no human error, the the Fullborn doesn't need to sleep so could be vigilant the whole time.) The biggest incongruency in my mind is that the Fullborn is so much faster than the Radiant. If we assume that they have prepared to compound Speed and Mental Speed and we also assume that they have Bendalloy, the Fullborn can think so much faster that any split second decision the Radiant makes can be scrutinized by the Fullborn.
