I keep thinking God of War when I think about how they will do Allomancy. Or maybe Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, the Dark Prince gameplay. Both had chains they used to move around, pulling (themselves towards) things, throwing other things, scaling walls, etc - I kind of imagine iron/steel playing out in a similar fashion. Zinc and brass could probably be left out of the general gameplay, making an appearance during certain missions / minigames. Pewter - and maybe atium, if it's available - sounds like it will be more of a "buff" type of skill: you hit a button and your pewter reserves start draining, give you extra physical damage, health, speed, things like that.

I don't know... I loved them, but I also loved everything else by Brandon. Try Legion since it's the shortest, see if you like it.

"Cryptics" is capitalized because it's the first word of the sentence... This excerpt alone doesn't make us special.

I don't know... if surviving the Everstorm is more than just winning a battle here and there, I could see why Taravangian would try to gather as much intel as he can, even if his means are a little dubious.

Something just occurred to me. The way Darkness' companion phrased "this creature carries my lord's blade," it could be interpreted in a way that suggests that Darkness is his Lord and whoever or whatever they are taking about carries blade. Think about it. It becomes obvious if you use "m'lord" instead of "my lord."

Funny - I like him better for what he does (assuming he does it for the right reasons). I rambled somewhere else about my irrational affection for characters who feel pressed to do the wrong thing for the right reasons and end up unwittingly doing the wrong thing for the wrong reasons.

How do you like your Brandon served?
Argent replied to Mikanium's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I've struggled for years to figure out why. I mean, I've been reading (big) physical books since I was 12, so about half of my life (and half of the other half doesn't really count...). I understand it's normal to be attached to them, that doesn't bother me. What does bother me is the irrationality, and to an extent - impracticality - of keeping a physical library. It's certainly more convenient to have an eBook library. But I keep buying paperbacks and hardcovers like the world - or at least the part of it that reads fantasy - will depend on my personal collection.- 28 replies

Oh, dear. This takes me back years, during the time when I was hardcore into World of Warcraft and its lore. For most of my self-aware life I've been a paladin fanboy, which made me naturally enamored with the Scarlet Crusade and the Argent Dawn factions - both full of paladins, but representing the different aspects of being a religious warrior. The Scarlet Crusade were the fanatics, hellbent on exterminating anything unholy; the Argent Dawn were the more moderate, considerate warriors who were concerned more with salvation than retribution, though the latter wasn't lacking. So what did I do when I felt that my old nickname, Kinslayer Gaidin*, was too childish? I grabbed those two factions and I meshed them together - Scarlet Argent. It had a decent ring to it, it sounded a little more professional (though mostly because "scarlet" is a fairly neutral word, and the meaning of "argent" - silver - is not very well known), and I liked the visual image behind it - bloody silver. Over time I dropped "scarlet" from it - on occasion adopting "sun" (e.g. ArgentSun) because it was even more innocuous, and I liked the image of a silver sun even better. Plus, I've always struggled with the decision whether I want to strive to the first in everything I do (as vaguely represented by the "sun" half), or whether a second place fits me better because I could usually get there with minimal effort (as almost as vaguely represented by the "silver" half, silver often being thought of as a "second" metal. Ultimately, I prefer Argent these days. Unfortunately it's often taken, so I have to be creative - which is why most of my online personas use ArgentSun. * That is a story of another time...

My take on the matter. Not the first time it was posted, as I took some ideas from other forum threads, but it's the closest thing to a formal theory I know of. If the perversion of the divine attributes ends up being a recurring theme among the Heralds, you have me to thank - or blame - for it

It looks like we are under siege from Melbourne these days... Still, all are welcome! Especially after such a pretty introductory post and a reference to "high fantasy" - for some reason I don't hear fantasy described this way anymore. Very rarely, at best.

Bad assumption. There is nothing concrete that suggests the final battle of the last Desolation took place there. In fact, I had a post in another thread going through the environment and pointing out why it didn't take place there.

Even books within the same series often differ in terms of setting and magic. While all three Mistborn books talk about all three of the Metallic arts, Allomancy is most strongly covered in The Final Empire, Feruchemy - in The Well of Ascension, and Hemalurgy - in The Hero of Ages. The setting is also different between those three novels. Similarly, Elantris and The Emperor's Soul might take place on the same planet, but they differ vastly in terms of both magic and setting. Bottom line, I don't see the problem - each book usually offers some measure of new information, and it is this new information that should be the bulk of the Magic section for that book's page (with quick summaries of other relevant but already covered / not yet covered magics in the series). A brief summary of those in-book descriptions of the magic systems can be added for the series' page. An in-depth description of each magic system belongs to that magic system's page, and it alone.

No, you are right, they are either of Honor, or of Cultivation, or of some mixture between them. Apparently there are some that are of Adonalsium too, which really muddies my waters...

I always thought it was a temporal shift thingy.

I've always had a soft spot for misguided idealists. People who know what they are doing is wrong, but still do it because they also believe it's the only way to do real good. Except it's not, and they end up doing evil to advance evil's goals all the while believing they are doing the opposite. Vin in the Well is a good example.

Soulcasting probably. We don't know if Surgebinding is hereditary. And I don't see where else Shallan could get the Blade from - she blocks it from her memories the same way she blocks her father's death, she has promised herself not to use it, she refers to it as an object of her sin, and she had lived such a sheltered life, she couldn't have gotten it from anywhere else.

I left that part out, yea. I'd only color the characters whose burning is known to the current "viewpoint" character.
