In retrospect, "Sample largely useless" should've been a dead giveaway. That's practically saying "Pay attention to this!"

I support the idea that it is Jezrien's consciousness that rides the highstorms - it could explain our drooling friend in the TWoK prologue, and I obviously support that idea. Maybe if Shards - e.g. Preservation - can pull this trick with their awareness, then humans (or at least ones containing Splinters, if the Heralds match that profile) can too.

I have a feeling Brandon has talked about this somewhere... I think that you are getting a real workout, but only a proportionate one. If your maximum benching weight is 200 lbs, and burning pewter ups it to 400, lifting those 400 will train your muscles the same way the "clean" 200 would. In other words, the additional weight lifted is handled by Preservation. Heh. Preservation is my spotter. Heh.
-
The Vorin name for Jezrien is Jezerezeh('Elin) - I think it's safe to assume that the latter was derived from the former, and so Jezrien should be pronounced "Yezrien." I support the idea that Yaezir is just another name for him. On a side note, I've noticed a trend lately. We are all, I think, looking a little too hard into Brandon's works, trying to divine meaning from even the simplest things. I believe this is a prime example of this - taking something as simple as a difference in the naming convention of a religious figure, and turning it into something much more convoluted.

What I like most about this is the supposition that the Parshendi/Parshmen (or the Parsh, which is a collective term I use) feel far more native to Roshar than the human races. It feels obvious in retrospect. I think this is important.
-
We don't know that. Brandon did, however, say multiple times that even if a character (e.g. Dalinar) is the flashback character of a certain book (e.g. #5), it doesn't mean that he will survive until that book. In other words, Kaladin can die in Words of Radiance, but Book #10 could feature his second set of flashback chapters.

Not necessarily suddenly, Gloom. And even if it is a recent thing, we know that many interesting things are going on on Roshar these days - it seems like the Heralds are becoming active again (Shallash, for example, couldn't have been destroying art of herself for 4,500 years; if she had been, there would be none left), Surgebinders are apparently appearing left and right, Honor has triggered the infodump safety protocol, and we might even get a Radiant here and there sometime soon.
-
Nicely written, @Urithiru. I would, however, like to point out that Cultivation and Honor arrived together to Roshar. I would like to see how you handle this piece of evidence before I address the rest of your theory.
-
There is a far simpler explanation though - it's the Heralds severed connection with Honor and the Oathpact that's making them worse. Whatever that actually means. I like Occam's razor...
-
The Radiants are still Surgebinders though. Still, we don't know enough to make even a semi-educated guess. What if the Heralds had access to all surges? It's not a far-fetched assumption, considering that anything less would make them Radiants on steroids at best. In this case fabrials would be completely useless to them, and they probably wouldn't even consider them. Would you consider developing a technology that allows you to, for example, smell things? Or one that allows you to walk? Assuming no deficiencies in those things (e.g. people's sense of smell just doesn't go away ever), you take those things for natural and don't consider them viable research subjects. Of course, all of this is based on a single assumption - but it serves to show how little we know about what the Heralds knew and were capable of.

I always dream that one day I'll become a billionaire and will afford to hire a ton of artists to draw me fantasy pictures full time...

The fact that Dalinar uses his Shardblade so much more often than Shallan remains, however. Spren are Cognitive/Physical creatures. Shardblades, if recent theories are on the right track, are Spiritual/Physical. So if Shallan keeps her Blade away, spren would take no issue with her. Moreover, we don't know whether all spren experience the same level of dislike towards Shardblades as Syl. Maybe only honorspren are disgusted by it. Maybe Syl, as an individual, is.

I actually complained about #5 a few minutes ago. Let's put it this way - if you start here, a single mouse click will take you to the page you need. You might need to do some more stuff there (clicking, typing, scrolling, reading, sacrificing goats, etc), but you'll be on the right page.

I take issue with the lack of evidence for this particular theory. I make no statement about the more general theory of the forms - partly because I am not very familiar with your thoughts on the matter. But with equal importance, because on a certain level the forms have to be a valid explanation of the cosmere. The three realms permeate the entire cosmere. The Shards all come from the same world. Of course there will be some overlap - how can there not be? But to decide whether it's as much as you (probably) claim in your core theory, I'll need to familiarize myself with it... sometime.
-
Heh. I did mean what I said - I like my theories like I like my women. Well-supported, full of facts, well written, plausible... But I also didn't want to sound too dismissive The point is, it is possible that your overarching idea of the Platonic forms applies to the cosmere. I can even see where this theory is coming from - "shadows" is an odd word choice up there. But it's not enough for me. On the topic of madness, I am quite happy to inform you that I don't suffer from it. But only because I rather enjoy it

I think spren, by definition, are all Splinters. They are are sentient, they have never been alive, and they seem to be "made" of Investiture. Until Roshar we had only seen single-Shard Splinters, but I suppose we now know of dual-Shard Splinters.

It's what I've been assuming - I never quite understood why everyone had decided that the Heralds were cursed. Their torment - and then its sudden disappearance - would've made for some very interesting experience for them...
-
There is far too little evidence for me to support you in this madness... =\

Heh. That's the one thing I praise KKC on - its beautiful writing. Not that the rest is bad, but Brandon has the nasty habit of spoiling his readers... I often tell my friends, or even random readers I talk with, that every time I finish one of Brandon's books, I usually start thinking "Well, it felt incredible while it lasted, but surely a part of it is my fanboyism." Then I read some other good book and go "Okay, this was pretty good, if I had been objective about Brandon's writings, I probably would've found them on the same level." And then Brandon comes up with another book, and I read it, and I try to find the minor flaws I find in other books, and I just can't... The Black Company, I didn't like as much. It's got some interesting ideas, but I didn't like the series terribly much. I think my biggest issue was the timeline - too long, too frequent character switches. 6/10, I'd say.

We don't actually know how Divine Breaths work. From the limited information we have, it does seem like the Returned display a personality similar, but also vastly different from the one they had before their death. This change or addition of personality could be attributed to the Divine Breath. A symbiosis of sorts, where two "souls" reside in the same body. Either that, or any resemblance between the pre- and post-Return personalities of the Returned is literally a byproduct of their physiology. In other words, Lightsong can juggle not because Stennimar still lives inside him, but because his body, his muscles, his brain still retain the muscle memory to do so. It's a fuzzy territory, but I think one can make the argument that Lightsong is the Divine Breath, and Stennimar's body is the host for it.

Technically gemstones, even the gemhearts don't hold Stormlight perfectly, just really well. Still, it's possible that there is a strong connection. I wouldn't discard the chasmfiends' "final form" either.

You are actually spot on. That's exactly what she says.

To make matters even more confusing, his chosen Glory is to be dependable, and his Calling - leadership.
