Sazed-son-son-Vallano, Steward of Terris...
-
I strongly doubt this for a number of reasons. The visual effects of Stormlight leaking from one's body are described quite well - and this is probably the only time they are referred to as resembling smoke and fire. When you say that a creature is of "fire and smoke," you never mean that it leaks with white light. It's a poetic expression, not a descriptive one. Plus, the Heralds "founded" the Radiants - you would imagine that after fighting the Voidbringers for dozens of Desolations, they'd know how their enemy looked...

Eh, a lil' bit only. 16+ should be good enough, I think.

Lift is a really fun character to read - and to write, I bet. I too hope we see more of her, but I doubt it. I tried to explain why I feel that way and ended up deleting my paragraph three times. She is awesome but doesn't serve the role Szeth and Rysn do.

True - but in the absence of specific details (like we have for Kelsier), it's probably safer to go with Brandon's version.
-
There is no other author I would put on Brandon's level. There are satisfactory inferior (temporary) substitutes, however. Three names spring to mind - Jim C. Hines, Jim Butcher, and Patrick Rothfuss. I'd probably read them in reverse order. Feel free to drop down to the Other Books subforum, there are more ideas there. But I can only guarantee your enjoyment with those three fellas there

I wouldn't jump to the Surgebinding / fabrial (I almost said ter'angreal...) conclusion just yet. I think it's worth looking into a timeline of Szeth's activities, coupled with the appropriate and / or known locations.

I was actually more inclined to believe that the Heralds would be amongst those unnamed, briefly mentioned characters...
-
I've been using "im" - like "in" but with an 'm'. "Yim" also sounds possible to me - like in "yield". But I too haven't heard it.

This is actually something I was considering as well. I discarded it based on his belief (and I extrapolate here a little bit) that crimes are objective, free of context. A murder is a murder, regardless of motivation, target / victim, method, environment, or anything else. No, I think his selection algorithm is more complicated that this... It almost feels like he wants to go out and murder execute every Surgebinder he can find, but he also feels the need to do it in a lawful and legal fashion.

Thanks, Peter, (always) good to know. Pretty much all of us have been working with the default assumption that names can change, so that at least is warning we've been operating under anyway So Ishar's order has pressure & "surface tension"? This sounds defensive. I now have to wonder whether Dalinar would belong with these guys...

I imagine by the time they figured out the Everstorm was coming - if, indeed, they are aware - their Honorblades were gone.

Szeth is much more elusive than Lift or Ym. He travels all the time, while both Lift and Ym look like they live their entire lives in the a single city.

Which Brandon Character Would You Date?

Some horrible dating councilors in this thread... -
He does have a Shardblade, however.

It seems you have been released, if not unleashed, upon the forums...

I don't think he knows about it, actually. Szeth buried it (somewhere in Jah Kaved) very soon after the assassination. Since he is not required to tell his masters everything, and they probably don't know that Gavilar gave it to him, he would neither volunteer this information, nor could he be forced to reveal it.

That always bothered me - nothing I understand about the cosmere points towards the Cognitive as a possible waiting room. The souls of the dead go to the Spiritual. The power of the Shards likely comes from - and presumably goes back - there. Yet Kelsier goes to Shadesmar? I can see how his supposed divinity could be a cognitive thing, given that the Cognitive Realm deals with how others see you (and how you see yourself, but that's irrelevant here), but it still bothers me...

If Darkness is Nalan, then I don't see Kaladin standing a chance, even with Szeth by his side. Both of them are exceptionally good fighters, but Nalan has literally had thousands of years of perfect his skill. Not to mention the tricks he should be able to do with Stormlight.

Aye. The human sacrifices from Elantris' Jesker Mysteries certainly qualify as evil, but they exist.
-
Another apparent criteria is that all of the Heralds we think we have seen so far seem to be doing something with themselves. They are not just sitting about, or farming, or even playing nobles. Nalan - and maybe Kalak and Jezrien - attended Gavilar's assassination night. Shalash is destroying art left and right. That ought to flush out some of the vague briefly mentioned characters. EDIT: Vedeledev is mentioned once: Not much to work with, but it's something...

Glad to have you here, cap'n. Enjoy the discussions, be they well-founded or wonky!

I've often made the argument that the last surge should deal with strength. Not in the way the "surface tension" surge grants strength - that's more defensive, akin to resistance; more like muscle strength. This, however, hasn't been as widely accepted by the community as I had originally hoped. You'll regret it when you are all proven wrong

Yea, that's also a valid point... It feels like I could explain this with my theory, but I need to think about it some more. Anything I come up with on a short notice will likely feel like a hack, not like a cohesive extension - or clarification - of the theory.
