  1. Remember - Lift kills Dumbledore.
  2. Funny - I was actually thinking of Brandon's characters with more... interesting religious beliefs a couple of hours before this came online. Sazed, obviously, with his meticulous process of elimination of religions. Hrathen with his logical worship of Shu-Korath. Jasnah, who is Hrathen's polar opposite - relying on her logic to reject religion instead is embracing it. Boy, would I pay money to see those two have a debate...
  3. Considering that Baxil, in his interlude, prays to a being he thinks of as "the Prime Kadasix" (i.e. the Prime Herald), it isn't a stretch of the imagination to surmise that the Emuli (and the nations they share culture with) regard Yaezir as the leader of the Kadasix, or at least a first song equals. Which suggests, in turn, that he does lead - and his worshippers pray that he leads them in wisdom.
  4. The Radiants weren't fighting another order(s) - their enemies are described with words like "devils" and "creatures." Which STRONGLY suggests non-humans.
  5. Sure, that too.
  6. Context doesn't change anything for me, but I know why you might feel that it does. For sake of completeness, here is the entire relevant section from the Steelhunt:
  7. I want to contribute to this thread by only quoting Jasnah... Can we wait some 15 years and have this talk then?
  8. Really, it could be either one. But considering that the ten Honorblades were completely unique and different not only from each other, but from anything else in the world, it sounds possible that each Herald's Blade would be giving a name derived from that Herald's divine attributes.
  9. I strongly doubt it. Not only is it too... disconnected from any evidence we've seen in the Stormlight Archive, there is also the fact that being Truthless doesn't imply that you are an assassin. Szeth happens to be very good at it, but a few of his masters kept him around for slave labor, not murder.
  10. Yours. "They didn't mention it because they didn't think it was important" is something that we don't see much in fantasy. Novels rarely include unimportant details, but they also rarely leave important ones out. That's what I meant by "boring answer" - it's too realworld-y.
  11. I think the question was more along the lines of "how did you ever figure out which chapter header image goes with which Herald?" I'd answer, but I no longer remember - it was kind of fun though. About the missing scar or mark... I thought about it a few weeks back. I really wanted to find it and pretty much confirm the theory. No dice, unfortunately. My consolation is that the chapter header images are meant to be in-world representations of the Heralds, something you might see in a chapel, for example. And after all those years, anything but the most prominent features would've been forgotten or distorted.
  12. I think this is a fruitless thought exercise - Shardlet was pretty clear in what he meant with "replacement Herald." Next thing we'll be arguing that everyone on Roshar is a Shardbearer, because the spheres they carry (bear) contain a piece (shard) of a gem...
  13. I believe magic is Investiture. Kind of. Investiture is the power of the Shards, which in turn are aspects of the power of creation. So, in a way, Investiture is like... magical subatomic particles. The foundation of all creation.
  14. I think the capitalization belongs to us, not Brandon. He hasn't written the word anywhere himself (except maybe an AMA, but I am too tired to search now), so it's kind of been up to us to decide whether to capitalize it or not (when transcribing interviews, for example).
  15. If this were the case, I'd be surprised. Not because it's implausible, but because it's a boring answer to an interesting question, and Brandon is not one to take the fun away from a good question like that.
  16. I had forgotten about that...
  17. Except Kalak's memories suggest that the Heralds' suffering is very akin to physical torture - he remembers fires and chains, piercing and burning his body. He also refers to the place where this all happens as "that place" (or something to that effect), suggesting that there exists a special place where they all suffer between Desolations; not that they carry the torment with them.
  18. 1. Likely not. Treledees tells Siri (before she is captured by Bluefingers) that the priests change the God Kings of Hallandren whenever a baby Returns somewhere in the kingdom. He also confirms that the God Kings are returned like any other - there is no royal line there, the only common denominator is that they all Returned as babies. This still doesn't explain how Vo had a child (who then became the ancestor of the entire royal line of Idris), but I think he is a separate issue. 3. Returned-fertility-trick?
  19. In books 7 - 10 the main plot will revolve around Dalinar riding (and brooding) around the world, chasing Navani who has been kidnapped by the Parshendi.
  20. It's probably not the best in terms of quality (I reserve that for The Rithmatist, because it has a cosmere-y feel to it), but it's something you can go through in a few of hours, even if you are slooow reader.
  21. Silly Kurk, the question is in the Non-Cosmere subforum.
  22. Except Gavilar had gone all Way of Kings on everybody, and the book is pretty clear about how a leader should behave. Bringing back the greatshells so he can use them, one way or another, to take over the world doesn't sound like something Gavilar would do. Try imagining Dalinar telling Adolin that he has a plan that will put him in charge of every Vorin kingdom, and that plan involves pretending that he is a gift from the Almighty himself.
  23. Stone-to-smoke also seems like a popular Soulcasting if you wanted to get rid of some stone.
