Dude I 100% agree with you. I need answers. WHY ARE THE MALWISH BLEACHING THEIR TOILET PAPER? Are they just advanced & fancy like that? Is this just another display of Southern Scardial being ahead of the North in terms of technology? [According to Google: "The bleaching process is what makes toilet paper soft to the touch and increases its absorbency. Unbleached paper is scratchy and doesn't do the job of drying quite like bleached paper does."]

No; I genuinely think this is a Looney Tunes quote/reference. (bolded the parts above for emphasis)

This distinction Brandon offers at the end is very interesting. Wonder if it has to do with Honor's investiture being tied specifically to Roshar/not extending the same way to Braize? Or if this is a perception thing, e.g. "I have done this before and believe I can do it, so I can continue to achieve it"?

THANK YOU @Argent for this suggestion — I panicked in the moment (and I got two moments, honestly) and couldn't think of a damn thing EXCEPT this question. Here's the question and answer! Didn't have my phone out to film it, but I did have my boyfriend next to me. I walked away from the table and typed it down. Q from Jessica: How did Wax earn his moniker, "Dawnshot"? A from Brandon: (big smile) He was known to show up early to his duels. New York Comic Con, 10/07/22, at the Dragonsteel booth.
-
Ah well then I'll be among my people! BUT FOR REAL I'm absolutely looking for question suggestions! Silly and serious alike! (From Shardcasts of the past, I feel like I'm remembering that Brandon is known to troll a certain fellow whenever he tries to ask a question seriously — lmao)

I will be there tomorrow, Friday 10/07! Bringing my copy of Warbreaker with me. Going to Dragonsteel first thing to get my ticket for signing. If I get to meet him, WHAT SHOULD I ASK? I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY except incoherent crying sounds right now! (Bad advice welcome. ) Lastly, if you're going and attending on Saturday, ATTEND THE Q&A and tell us what happens because it's going to be crazzzzy!

SpanReads: Shadows of Self - Cosmere Implications
sugjesstive commented on Chaos's article in Columns and Features
@Kaymyth — I'm curious as to what color your hair was during recording vs. when this aired? EDIT (I paused the ep & came back to it!) @Overlord Jebus & @LadyLameness — YES! I graduated with a BA in Philosophy for some god-awful reason (pun intended) and I've been yelling "HE'S FORCING DETERMINISM" for the last few minutes. I'm so glad you guys brought this up. This is exactly what bothers me so much about Harmony's development as a god-character over the last few hundred years. This fact is just... genuinely not ignorable to me. The whole point of determinism is that the choices we're presented with for the entirety of our lives aren't choices; they are determined; they are "fate". This is sickeningly true for Wax. Harmony is not giving Wax "choices" by intervening when he possesses future sight; he is pushing him down a path. Honing him into a weapon, forcing him to fall in love and ripping it violently away from him — as a god (whose prior existence was ALL about understanding theology), it feels like there's something very predatory about the way he uses Wax. Knowingly, fatalistically, deterministically predatory. (All of this said, I don't hate Harmony. I just don't think he is Sazed anymore. That guy is gone.) -
When you run out of Sanderson,
sugjesstive replied to Lesser spren's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I really enjoyed the Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks. Set of 5 books that follow an atypical protagonist; somewhat "coming of age" vibes, with many darker elements as the books go on. And the magic system is based around color, which was cool. Exactly what comprises your Sanderson catalogue? (e.g, have you read the non-cosmere works?) -
Question, based on this: Do we think "The Lost Metal" is in reference to era 1 "Atium", this theoretical pure Atium, or a different metal entirely?

I'm reading The Stormlight Archive for the first time
sugjesstive replied to Amira's topic in Stormlight Archive
I love that you're enjoying your first read-through @Amira! Who are your favorite characters / POV chapters to read? Can you believe this guy?! (I opened up my copy of WoK to reread this and experience it again!) -

sounds like a convenient way to avoid having your fandom wish for the untimely death of another author in the genre. /s -
YES x1000 to this. I want to see Wayne and the Cryptics learning from each-other.

FanX (Sep 22-24) and NYCC (Oct 6-9) 2022
sugjesstive replied to Pagerunner's topic in Events and Signings
I'll be at NYCC on the Friday that Brandon's there (but unfortunately, not Thursday or Saturday). And he won't be attending Sunday. Here's how NYCC usually works: Thursday: Mostly a 'press' day; nothing really happens Friday: Autograph lines and some panels Saturday: Always has the best panels and screenings, where all the new information is dropped!! Sunday: Autograph lines and panels, but the day ends earlier NYCC prevents recording at screenings, and often panels too. The autograph lines are usually so long (hundreds/thousands of people), you can't hear anything until you're basically next in line. NYCC/Reedpop hasn't released their actual lineup of events yet. If it's anything like 2021 (an absolute cremshow), there will be some pre-registration for the most exciting and well-planned panels; mostly on Saturday. Many things won't be announced until the week, or even day of... But I think 2021 was so poorly-planned, they're trying to improve the experience. I do plan on attempting to follow Brandon's lineup / attend whatever possible on that Friday... but Saturday is when the fun stuff will really be, most likely. I'll try to post an update here whenever his schedule is released! (Edit: Here's the link for NYCC Guests in the meantime.) -

Unpopular Brandon Sanderson Opinions
sugjesstive replied to not an Evil Librarian's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I am sorry to be posting this months after the last response... but I didn't catch this mentioned in the thread already. I read like 10/17 pages of the thread but I burned out a little. My unpopular opinion: Mistborn Era 2's main characters are insufferable... Marasi is ehhh. I fully can't stand Wax, Wayne, or Steris. SAZED is interesting but a total JERK. & Allomancer Jak is BY FAR my favorite Era 2 character, but I don't know if he counts. -
I'm with @Frustration on this one. I don't trust a TV/movie adaption for any of Brandon's complex works. Aside from the fandom exploding (which could be awful), it would necessitate cutting out (or oversimplifying) a myriad of plot complexities. Especially when considering how complex (interwoven) Stormlight and the later Mistborn books are. At the same time, I feel a TV/movie adaption is... inevitable. I imagine Mistborn has the best chance; what with Kelsier showing up in Fortnite, and how many times that series has been hinted at. But Mistborn Era 1 isn't horribly complex — and TV is getting ever darker & grittier. The kandra, mistwraiths, and inquisitors could all be interesting elements to see brought to life on screen. He's at New York Comic Con this October. I half expect an announcement of some sort then.

How did you become a Sanderfan?
sugjesstive replied to Odiumiumium's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I began with Sando in the summer of 2018; a friend had recommended Stormlight in particular. I read through Way of Kings, Words of Radiance, and Oathbringer before September. It consumed me! Which was very surprising. I hadn't even attempted to read a novel in years; ADHD can make it hard; nevermind an epic fantasy novel with 1200+ pages. But Brandon's characterization & world-building were unlike anything I had ever been exposed to before. [Side note nobody asked for: I saw so much of myself in Shallan, I took my ass back to therapy. Life now is so much better than it was in 2018.] I read Mistborn Era 1 during Fall 2018, since I couldn't get enough, and quickly inhaled Warbreaker after that — and for what it's worth, it was honestly Warbreaker that convinced me that this man was indeed worth the pedestal I had(have) him on. That novel is stormin' beautiful. Now it's Summer 2022 and I've consumed all the cosmere stuff, and the novellas. Plus the Skyward series. I am in the process of rereading The Final Empire and Way of Kings now. And sometime next year, I'll probably begin his other non-cosmere works. Alcatraz 5 (?) ending was spoiled for me in one of the 17S eps — but it was so dark, it made me wanna pick it up more. You aren't the only one who struggled with Elantris! It's rough, and IMHO Raoden is a Mary Sue. Hrathen is the rust, but also insufferable. And part of the ~experience~ is feeling perpetually uncomfortable as all the Shaod characters deal with a very painful/gruesome/grotesque curse. I liked the novellas set on Sel, BUT ONLY AFTER reading the intro to Arcanum Unbounded, and looking at the damn maps on the inside covers of the collection. -
White Sand Omnibus Cover & Release Date!
sugjesstive commented on LewsTherinTelescope's article in Brandon and Book News
Hmmm... It's hard to say for sure... But I'm thinking I'll probably skip this one. I want to check out that prologue + the ars arcanum pages. But I'm not sure I need to own it. I have the 3 White Sand hardcover volumes already, and I'm rather fond of them. Not sure if this version will be updated with enough new content for it to be worth the price; each volume I have cost around $25. (Though it looks some of them are on sale/available cheaper now!) I'm saving shelf space, at this point, for leatherbounds. -
Hoid will betray Roshar..... Again
sugjesstive replied to KaladinWorldsinger's topic in Stormlight Archive
I have to wonder how much this will affect Hoid in the long-term. What kinds of Memories were taken? Can he still access and utilize all of his magics? I hope it's not a brief plotpoint (e.g., gets resolved in the first half of book 5) because I love the idea of this being the very first time in millennia that someone has gotten the better of Hoid. Would feel a little blah if the only thing that was stolen = Wit's particular memory of TaravOdium being "off", and nothing else. -
Recommended Order for Re-Reading
sugjesstive replied to sugjesstive's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Is there a specific reason you recommend it this way? (I admit, I'm not super looking forward to the Elantris re-read as it is! His writing has progressed so much since then. I find Serene nearly insufferable.) I think this is a particularly interesting suggestion! I've never considered "World-Hopping" myself like this. Makes me feel like a mini, goofy Hoid. Where can I read Aether of Night? ALSO I DIDN'T REALIZE THE SOTD2 READING WAS CONSIDERED SO IMPORTANT. I have that YouTube link open (literally, in one of my 217 tabs) and haven't watched it once yet! Thank you, friend! -
Hoid will betray Roshar..... Again
sugjesstive replied to KaladinWorldsinger's topic in Stormlight Archive
For some reason, when I first heard of a character that spanned/traveled/wandered the cosmere, I imagined a long-term, long-brewing villain or anti-hero. I don't want to believe it because I really love Hoid! (But Brandon often says that of all the characters in the cosmere, he relates most closely to Hoid. This would be a pretty good way to casually make me think he's not going to be a villain, because Brandon himself isn't a villain!... Right?) The epilogue of Rhythm of War supports this theory, too. Hoid is so wise, so burdened with knowledge, and so generally untouched by fear... but now his knowledge is incomplete. It's been messed with by a brand new god, unbeknownst to him. He probably won't take it well when he realizes how badly he's been played a fool. Is it just memory(/memories) that have been taken from Hoid, or something else too? -
... What's next?
sugjesstive replied to ThroughTheLivingSequence's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Hi there! Sorry to bump a relatively old post. I haven't read The Reckoners — I think I had mistaken it for a "kids" series. However, I really love the Cytoverse series, and it seems kinda like Brandon's version of a YA/kids novel might not be very kid-like at all. Anyway, I wanted to ask: Is The Reckoners series standalone? (Totally outside of the cosmere, and doesn't relate back to his other non-cosmere works?) Did you like it more than Skyward? I liked your description of this series a lot, and so I kinda wanna ask for it for the holidays! -
It's finally about time I begin my first-ever re-read of the cosmere. I'd reallyappreciate thoughts/recommendations on the order in which to re-read them! Below I have listed the books in the order in which I originally read them. Stormlight 1-3 (WoK, WoR, OB) Edgedancer Warbreaker Mistborn Era 1 (all) Mistborn Era 2 (all) Elantris Stormlight 4 (RoW) Arcanum Unbounded short stories (all) Dawnshard White Sand I feel like I should re-read White Sand last because I just finished all 3 of them, and they're fresh in my mind. Also, is Dragonsteel something I can actually read anywhere? :3 And is WoK Prime worth it? (I know it's not canon, but just for fun, maybe after a full cosmere re-read.) Thank you for your help/thoughts!

Hi guys!! I want you to know that (A) this is the VERY first time I've watched y'all on youtube, and it feels like NONE of your faces match your voices in my mind. And (B) I particularly appreciated your discussion of Jasnah's "lunacy", and the point you brought up about schizophrenia. Thank you for mentioning it, Grey. Some thoughts below: Notes/Thoughts on Jasnah's "Lunacy" (Potential Psychosis / Schizophrenia) I do think it would be extremely interesting (albeit cruel) for Jasnah to end up schizophrenic, since her mind/perception is what she values most beyond anything — but I think this would be a huge undertaking for Brandon. Writing in the POV of a character whose schizophrenia is worsening (which is what would happen as she ages) would presumably be very challenging for a man who hasn't experienced it. I also wonder if this would take away from Taravangian's story slightly; since a huge motivating factor for him was trying to "get back" to "smarter" days again, when he could better trust the inner workings of his mind. All of this said... this article made me think it could indeed be childhood psychosis/schizophrenia, maybe. I didn't know that flat affect was a symptom in children with schizophrenia; this might fit with Navani's quote to Dalinar about how different/unusual Jasnah seemed as a preteen. Thematically, it would also make sense to try an tie a mental illness in with Jasnah, since it seems like a very common theme in his Stormlight works. [But does everyone need to have a defined mental illness, I wonder?] Lastly... if the lunacy was caused by environmental/outside factors... My bet is on some Unmade/Splinter nonsense, or having started a proto bond with a spren. Thoughts on Jasnah/Hoid Evgeni perfectly summed up the icky feeling about Jasnah/Hood; it feels incredibly transactional. He gives her secrets, she gives him sex, and neither of them are happy. The only benefit of this pairing = the potential for a messy breakup and some INTERESTING "evil ex" dynamic stuff in the future! Shannon said it well too: Are we supposed to believe Jasnah doesn't know how to define boundaries? Are we supposed to believe Hoid, who's like 10,000 years old, doesn't give a crem about Jasnah's feelings/comfortability in these sexual situations? I'd have rather seen Jasnah explore her sexuality (or lack thereof) and/or romantic feelings with almost anyone else. Jasnah/Kriss sounds like a wonderful ship. I also kinda like the idea of Jasnah/Radiant. P.S. — @FeatherWriter: You convinced me to try the Chestnut Praline latte an hour ago! IT'S AMAZING.
